Help me with kitten funds?
I recently put a photo of my little rescue kittens up in my scraps section... those kittens get more complex by the day...
expandranon was awesome enough to paypal over enough money that we could take them to the Humane Society Saturday (assuming we could get there in time). So I thought everything was set and though it would be sad, I would have finished my half of the rescue! THEN AVADA'S MOM THREW A WRENCH IN EVERYTHING!
Today as I was walking back to the room after my morning chores and she was all "Any plans for the kittens? Oh wait what I mean to say is I made a vet appointment for later today and I'm investing nearly $200 in the kittens! I sold some jewelry I really liked to get the money and guilt-guilt-guilt... the appointment is in three hours." HER plan was to get them dewormed, Feline leukemia/AIDS tested, and first round of shots... but they have a "cat cold" and were given antibiotics to clear that up before they can get vaccines. So.... while I could have been okay getting them first shots since that would save any rescue the trouble and they'd be up for adoption immediately... we are instead kinda stuck with them for 2 weeks while they get antibiotics... THEN maybe get vaccines... and by THEN we will have spent enough that we damn well better be keeping them!
Well you can still take them to the humane society and just give them the bottle of antibiotics... I hear you say. Of course not... since she put money into them, she now magically gets to say she hates that place and we can't take them there! She told me she hated the place before, but up until today they were my kittens and I could do what I wanted... now they are HER kittens, in HER house, where she lets me stay rent-free (Avada pays rent, just no extra because of me). *sigh*
She is also one of those people that will half-listen to what you say then go right back to whatever they set their mind to. Example: Earlier she said she had flea prevention we could use on the kittens... but at the vet when the topic came up and she was in full "just give us everything and let us leave already" mode, she ignored me saying "didn't you say we had some at home?" and just nodded and told the doctor to give us some of that too.
Avada was also in "just let us leave mode" except extended through the ride home in which we got to hear all about how she "wasted" all that money because the kittens didn't even get the shots she planned. So if she remembers that ride, she will be asking Avada to chip in on the vet bill. So much fun!
So anyway... now that we have put some money into the kittens (and I haven't heard back from any of the rescues I contacted) I am leaning more towards keeping the kittens, and thinking of how we can afford the vaccinations and neutering. Do I have any super-great friends out there that could chip in a bit? Doesn't even have to be much... will cost around $100 for both to get vaccines if I remember the price breakdown from earlier (before the kittens were declared too sick for vaccines just yet)... and neutering is HARDLY something that can't wait since the whole house is boy animals. I dunno, I'm shooting out ideas right now...
Edit: Mister BlackPaws donated additional money towards getting the kittens shots. Any further donations would be towards neutering, which I am not sure how much that costs... but my mom can get me a discount at her vet.
