A Controversial Response
This is a response to
Woofwoofwoof's journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2610264/
I can't respond directly on there, due to being banned from commenting on a previous engagement, but let's look at this and break it down, piece by piece.
The reason I'm doing this is because I'm friends with
Eziel, who is under fire from this crap.
Talshu is also mentioned, but we'll get more into that with the responding here.
We'll skip the beginning stuff, and dig into the real meat of that journal.
Author's Note: Anything in bold and italics are the words of
Woofwoofwoof, and you can go read this directly at his journal with the link I provided at the top. All other italic words are either me quoting Eziel, or sources I used. All other words are mine.
"In brief, these two people are very good friends; they do not claim to be more than such, although at one point I was placed under the impression that they also live together, an item which I cannot verify at this time (however, it is inconsequential; I only mention in the effort of full disclosure). The situation that they have alleged is that they required donations in order to meet a three thousand dollar co-pay on an 86,000 dollar heart transplant. This, in my opinion, is a lie, designed to scam people out of money, and it has been a lot of money. Here is my reasoning."
Talshu and Eziel do not live together, which was easy enough to know by Talshu having to drive four hours to get to Eziel when his artery valve burst. Already he's started off not understanding or knowing anything about the situation, which weakens his arguments right at the very start.
"Firstly, the average cost of a heart transplant is upwards of 850,000 dollars; while there is fluctuation in price, of course, this is a very conservative figure, and there is not a 90% decrease. Immediately we come to an impasse: the two claim that Eziel is instead receiving an artificial heart. This is categorically impossible: even the most superficial research on the subject of artificial heart transplantation shows that the cost of this procedure is also well above the 86,000 figure, not to mention the fact that complete, artificial hearts are still in their infancy and considered somewhat experimental. As well, in the US, people must be between the ages of 50 and 75 to qualify for an artificial heart, due to their extremely limited numbers and a preference for full heart transplant surgery to be performed on younger patients (which Eziel is; he is 26). This is a law."
I don't know how much the 'average' cost of a heart transplant is, and there are variables not being considered. Different models, different makers, the hospital, the insurance, yadda yadda yadda. We also are going off the limited information provided to us by Talshu; it can be incomplete for a number of reasons. For one thing, who likes to disclose everything about them online, to perfect strangers? No one. If the bills weren't going to have an affect on us, why should we know?
The 2nd issue here is this: Eziel's already had a heart transplant. Yeah, the one he has is a transplant, and is unfortunately damaged. Eziel also has other medical issues in his history that prevent him from being given another one, and while Woofwoofwoof claims that the only people who can receive an artificial heart have to be between 50-75, that is UNTRUE.
Woofwoofwoof doesn't know what the hell he's talking about, and I have some proof to back me up.
http://curiosity.discovery.com/ques.....tificial-heart
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artifi.....t_developments
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artificial_heart
The discovery.com page says that any patient who is facing end stage heart-failure, with a life expectancy of less than 30 days, may be able to receive an artificial heart. Eziel almost DIED because his artery valve burst. I'd say that's less than a month to live, wouldn't you?
Further, the wiki article talks about recent developments. A 15 year old girl received an artificial heart to help sustain her while waiting for a transplant. a *15 YEAR OLD*. This goes against Woofwoofwoof's claim that it is LAW that only someone between the ages of 50-75 can receive one.
"We therefore come to the conclusion that Talshu, who does the majority of speaking and money-raising in these situations (of which this is not the only one, but I will get to that in a moment) has both left off a zero and misplaced a comma in his price figure, and misspoke when he said that it would be the transplantation of an artificial heart. This is the only conclusion that we can come to if we wish to believe that they are not scam artists. So we now work under the assumption that Talshu has misspoken in an extremely unlikely way, and continue to work from the presupposition that Eziel has, at this point, received a heart transplant."
Since woofwoofwoof is so stuck on the cost of an artificial heart, let's take a look at the costs, shall we?
http://www.ehow.com/about_4673173_m.....#ixzz188rXRLT1
According to this, the average cost is $658,800....in 2007. We're four years later now, and the article even goes so far as to state this:
"This figure includes the cost of obtaining a donor heart, at an average of nearly $90,000, about $23,000 in evaluation fees, $40,000 for doctor's fees, $383,000 in hospital costs, $93,000 in post-operative care, and over $29,000 for immunosuppressive prescription medications. Transplants that involved both a heart and a lung cost an average of $874,800, while heart and kidney combination transplants cost an average of $758,700."
So, the total cost of the artificial heart is covering the doctor's fees, hospital costs, post-op care, among other things. Which means that the artificial heart itself doesn't COST THAT MUCH.
Also, these are separate charges made to insurance, who depending on what they have and such, can cover a lot of this.
So, woofwoofwoof's focus on the cash required for this is pretty shaky ground.
"Eziel claims to have anemia and cancer, as well as having already received a heart transplant and a kidney transplant. Eziel has claimed that his cancer is incurable, but in remission. Regardless, having anemia would make such a surgery extremely risky, and they would likely not perform it, as the mortality rate would be too high to justify the loss of a heart (a second one, apparently). He has already received a heart; the notion that he could get to the top of the waiting list twice for a heart is unspeakably improbable. The notion that he would ever be given a heart, despite having cancer, is illogical on the highest order. Not only this, but it would be illegal for him to receive a heart transplant if he has cancer, regardless of its remission status."
Eziel himself responds to this accusation of claiming to have anemia with this:
"As for people who assume I have heavy anemia, that is bullshit. I told people over and over again, BORDER LINE anemia, first stage, it's a genetic thing from my family. So please, I wish every one would stop assuming it's full blown anemia. I am a borderline anemic."
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2611588/
This is pretty interesting stuff...in fact, I never once heard Eziel talk about being anemic at all, so it's quite a surprise that woofwoofwoof would know so much about Eziel's medical history.
Not to mention, once again, Eziel's artery valve burst. Even if he was full blown anemic, surgery was the ONLY THING that kept him from dying. Sometimes you take risks when the only other option is to just let them die.
http://www.uptodate.com/contents/pa.....ransplantation
I point to this link. Woofwoofwoof claims it is ILLEGAL to give someone with cancer a heart transplant.
He is WRONG. It is not illegal; but cancer makes it far more likely he would NOT get it.
But, the simple fact of the matter is, Eziel is a very young person, and like woofwoofwoof, I do not know when Eziel got this transplant.
His age and health both play a HUGE role in the why's and how's he would have gotten a transplant. If he had been older, say in his 40's or higher, the chances would be a lot slimmer. But he's a YOUNG person, and young folks can fight off all sorts of things.
So, woofwoofwoof claims that it's illegal? Total bunk.
"We must also talk about the copay figure. Eziel cannot have private health insurance. The rates would be stratospheric, and a 3,000 dollar copay would be pocket change compared to them. This is also regardless of the fact that he would have hit any plausible lifetime maximum coverage long ago. If Eziel has Medicaid, then he would not have a copay. It becomes clear that there is a major issue with this story. There is also the issue of medication; medication required after heart transplant surgery costs 2,000-4,000 dollars a month, approximately the same cost of his cancer medication. Again, the 3,000 seems like an arbitrary and small - small, as in attainable - figure. As well, intuitively, I have difficulty believing that they would allow him to take the myriad of vicious, destructive drugs required to treat both illnesses at once; it seems like nothing more than an express ticket to adding a liver and a second kidney to the list of organs that Eziel will be needing in rapidly short order. Even taking the cancer medication on one kidney seems improbable. This is all regardless of the anemia and the anti-rejection medications that he will already be taking for his first heart transplant and the kidney transplant."
Umm, excuse me, do you know Eziel's entire history? You cannot simply go 'He can't have insurance'. This seems to be assuming that all of this was at ONCE, which it wasn't. He most certainly can have private insurance.
Also, many folks have medicaid and private insurance. Medicaid will only cover so much, and there's no reason to believe Eziel wouldn't have more insurance.
The meds he would require for the artificial heart ARE THE SAME MEDS FOR THE TRANSPLANT.
In fact, if you remember a point I made earlier, that's part of where that cash goes! So, there's no reason to believe the cost of his meds would ever go up at all; they're the same thing!
Not to mention, it seems woofwoofwoof believes there is only one set of meds out there; but there's hundreds of combinations. Now, I'm not an expert in this field, but anyone can see the difference just by asking their grandparents.
So, Eziel doesn't have anemia, and the meds are for a transplant heart....you know, like the one he had when he was younger? So, ummm....yeah. Oops.
"There are also other issues. First of all, Talshu is not a relative; to do some acts that he has claimed to do (specifically, his interactions with the hospitals), he would require power of attorney. This is never mentioned in any of their vast catalog of journals; however, if this is the case, it would be insanely easy to merely scan a document to verify it."
Talshu has power of attorney, which can be granted by signing a document. They can be, but are not limited to: Family, Loved Ones, Attorneys, etc. In fact, if I wanted to, I could give Power of Attorney to my next door neighbor! That's just a bunk assumption on Woofwoofwoof's part.
Also, Talshu doesn't HAVE TO MENTION IT. Plus, the asking here for documents is basically an illegal request. Woofwoofwoof clearly doesn't understand anything about HEPA laws, or client confidentiality.
"I would also like to mention that I have personally spoken to Eziel several times. I did not do this with the intent of verifying any information; this was months ago. We are (or, were) even friendly acquaintances, which is one factor that contributed to my reticence to post this journal. However, my contact with him predates this newest heart issue, but I can say that his account of his cancer issues was . . . wavering in its ability to be specific. Being a naturally curious person, the majority of my questions regarding specifics of his ailment, medication and treatment were met with things that I either knew to be factually inaccurate, or were met with the response that he did not know the answer. I was not asking incredibly esoteric questions; these are questions that I feel anybody with such an illness dominating his life should know the answer to. These were questions about how many pills he takes, what they are, what they do, basic questions about chemotherapy, basic questions about anemia etc. He could often not answer them whatsoever."
In response to 'I have personally spoken to Eziel several times', Eziel replied with this:
"You only spoke to me two times, not several, you also didn't ask me all these questions that you claim to have asked me."
Wasn't aware that twice was 'several'.
Since I've spent several paragraphs just tearing apart Woofwoofwoof's understanding of medical laws and uses, then I am now left no choice but to question his understanding how many pills must be taken, chemo, and the like. Plus, Eziel did say they only talked twice. I don't think there's anything solid or concrete here to address, as it's just really weak, so let's move on.
"I would also like to point toward the amount of art that is commissioned by Eziel. Not for Eziel, not gifts to Eziel, but commissions by Eziel of his various characters. I wouldn't call it a flood, but it is quite a massive collection that he has put together in even the past several months. At the very least, we should call this irresponsible, but at most, we should call it evidence that donations made to these people are not being used in the way that they claim that they will. There is another more obnoxious issue (while on the subject of art), in that they often hold raffles, which one of them will inevitably win, themselves. What I don't understand is that if they're sharing the costs, why are they putting money into their own raffles? Talshu invariably wins the slots of the best artists in each raffle; he is paying himself? At no cost, given that he would be getting the money back, as it's going to end up going to him, he can buy any number of raffle tickets in order to secure the majority of the slots, and thus nearly insure that he wins the best slots. This is actually real, prosecutable fraud, if that's the case (not that the rest of it isn't)."
Okay, so, there's some issues here.
I want to talk about myself a bit. A lot of folks see my gallery, and see it stuffed full of artwork I have from Daigo. Many folks ASSUME that I have commissioned him. In truth, Daigo draws me a lot of gifts, either for celebrating something, he just wants to draw, or he's cheering me up. We have a relationship many folks don't understand, since they have to buy everything.
Eziel has a unique situation. He's friends with a lot of people, and has very few commissions that *HE* paid for. Talshu has paid for some, but many are gifts! Eziel doesn't buy hardly any artwork, and it'll be months before he'll show something. Much of it is a gift of some kind, and folks need to learn to accept that.
Eziel held the drawing for the raffle for his meds, and he did the drawing live online. Talshu had nothing to do with the drawing, except to put forth his own cash into it.
Many folks won many things, Not all of them directly tied to Talshu or Eziel.
The raffle held by
Ainoko was to help Eziel and Talshu with the left over payment, and he was being a good guy.
Woofwoofwoof, you really didn't bother reading up on the history of anything, did you?
"It should also be mentioned that only just prior to Eziel suddenly needing a third heart, he attended anthrocon. This was perhaps the most brazen act of all. All accounts by people - we share many common friends - is that he did not appear particularly ill at all, nor did he look anything like somebody with anemia. Somebody with cancer and anemia, on anemia/cancer/transplant rejection medications, who is apparently this broke, does not go to AC in the first place, much less appears to be relatively healthy (as an afterthought, I wonder if he drank? Too late to ask at this point, but perhaps somebody knows the answer). At the absolute least, it seems likely that somebody with such incredible health issues should have conserved his money for his own health care costs instead of going to AC. There is the defense that he would rather enjoy what little life he has than invest in prolonging suffering . . . but this argument is incompossible with his begging, or the begging done on his behalf, for money to do just that. As well, a photograph of Eziel at AC shows somebody who is anything but anemic, not to be purely derogatory."
...again, Eziel doesn't have anemia, not full blown. He's on the edge of BEING anemic, but that's not the same thing.
Karaken paid for Eziel's trip! Eziel was actually feeling up to being able to go out, and Karaken wanted him to go to a con! Eziel's cash was strained while out there, but he was able to actually do and get some things done because A) His trip was paid for and B) he was given free room.
*gasp!* what's that? Woofwoofwoof didn't know that? Big surprise.
Also, Eziel had some hard times out there at AC, and while he grinned through it all, he still had some problems.
So, now what? should we go attack Yuuri for her asking for donations for her meds? This is absurd.
"I also wish to speak of an even more curious, behavioral response to somebody else having raised this skepticism on InkBunny. Talshu, in the face of similar, albeit more . . . undefined . . . reasoning, did not provide any documentation that would corroborate his story; instead, he suddenly offered to refund everybody's money. I'm sorry, but is it that Talshu doesn't have the money for these operations, or that he does? Because at this point, the alleged heart transplant has already taken place. Did he need the money or not? Was that money not spent on the heart transplant that took place? If his condition is such that he is not being fully and completely covered by whatever form of financial aid that he is receiving, is that money not utterly necessary to purchase his exorbitantly expensive and numerous medications? Was a heart placed in him so that he should die only weeks later? Or should we expect more donation requests in the near future?"
He couldn't pay the bill until the money was built up....I mean, DUR. Places do offer later bills, you know? I mean, heck, my dentist does this for me!
Talshu is making the offer to repay anyone because if no one is comfortable with this situation, then they shouldn't have to put their money towards it.
This logic is just such a sinkhole, that it's almost not worth getting into. Either Talshu is blowing the money on stuff, or he's just lying when he tries to offer refunds. This is what we call a catch-22: Talshu cannot win.
He needed the money to pay the bills for what has ALREADY HAPPENED, but that doesn't prevent him from paying folks back after letting him borrow the cash for a short time.
Plus, if you felt that strongly abut it, why did you donate in the first place? I myself donated, and I don't want that cash back. I'd rather have my friend.
Not to mention, woofwoofwoof's logic has been torn full of holes. He doesn't know what he's speaking about, nor does he know as much as he believes he does about health treatment.

Okay, so, that's the meat & potatoes of his journal. I'd love to respond to this in kind on his journal, but he blocked me a few months ago just because I didn't agree with him on the game Minecraft.
Let that sink in. He banned me...'cause we didn't agree on a video game.
Now, is this really the kind of guy we should just be taking the word of as the gospel just because he said it? He doesn't use any kind of evidence to back up his claims, and much of it is able to be shrugged off.
It's okay to question, but if you're going to question, do some damn homework and back it up.

The raffle held by
Ainoko was to help Eziel and Talshu with the left over payment, and he was being a good guy.Woofwoofwoof, you really didn't bother reading up on the history of anything, did you?
Eziel's cash was strained while out there, but he was able to actually do and get some things done because A) His trip was paid for and B) he was given free room.*gasp!* what's that?
******
Okay, so, that's the meat & potatoes of his journal. I'd love to respond to this in kind on his journal, but he blocked me a few months ago just because I didn't agree with him on the game Minecraft.
Let that sink in. He banned me...'cause we didn't agree on a video game.
Now, is this really the kind of guy we should just be taking the word of as the gospel just because he said it? He doesn't use any kind of evidence to back up his claims, and much of it is able to be shrugged off.
It's okay to question, but if you're going to question, do some damn homework and back it up.
FA+

In any case! Responses like woofwoofwoof's are to be expected. It has now been properly discredited and things are more clear because of it. Mayny questions have been answered this day. It'll be good when all this is over.
and my posting of this journal is to try and discredit him as much as possible. It is infuriating that folks can read his journal, and take it as the absolute truth with no evidence to support what he claims, while attacking others he believes aren't supporting their claim.
So, I attacked his claim, and supported mine.
Same with Arcturus. It's one thing to question, entirely another to have to just attack baselessly.
As I said, I would love to write this in response to his journal directly, but alas, I have to take round-about ways to do it.
I'll be blunt, though. I tried to hold myself back, not to degrade to name-calling, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is met with scorn and criticizing. The last time I clashed with this person, I was insulted for expressing ideals and thoughts that he did not agree with, and then banned me from making any more comments thereafter.
But, never mind that. I'm hoping that by responding in this way, pulling up sites and proof that backs up a lot of what I'm saying, maybe others will do the same. It's not a bad thing to question things; but there's ways to do that without going around, pointing fingers and going "Scam! This is a SCAM!"
Asking for documentation is a big no-no; HEPA laws make it very difficult to get your OWN records, let alone trying to give that information on the phone or online. It can be illegal to ask/acquire such things, let along sharing them.
Yeah, and if there's anything else I can help clarify, or use to point out what I'm telling is the truth, I don't mind digging it up and proving that.
I guess woofwoofwoof has read this and plans on responding back to it. I look forward to it, 'cause it looks pretty solid on some points, and shaky on others.
If you go and read his journal rather carefully, there's a point where he says it takes the bare minimum to do some research to pull these numbers out for how much it costs and such.
Well, I can show the research I did here, and I didn't come up with the same number he did...and even in his journal, Battle Franky pointed it out that he found numerous numbers!
So, I really want to know what kind of research was done on Woofwoofwoof's part. I would dearly love to know it, because from where I'm standing...he didn't do any.
I mean, if he had done some digging, he would have known that Talshu didn't live with Eziel, at the very least.
It's really rather unfair to brazenly go out and lay all this onto someone who could be struggling with some very harsh recovery time. Stress is just one of those things that can effect your body even if you don't see it at first. It should have been done in private if the person had so much of a problem.
I don't know how this person expects us to ever look at them the same again, even WITH an apology. It would be like the next time one of us got sick, you would have this jerk on your ass DEMANDING proof.
I think the bottom line, it should come down to if you feel the cause is noble enough, then donate your money. If you have other feelings, and no discernible proof that it's a full on scam, keep your mouth shut and don't donate.
Anyway, at least it's not as brazenly stupidly trollish as Arcturus' journal was. Cannot believe Arcturus can be banned from here, and still cause a huge fuss.
Seriously, how can anyone take what he says as the gospel just because he said it when he does that?
The only time I blocked someone was because someone hacked their account and they got a new one.
BUT, I will say this for him. He did apologize to Eziel and Talshu for what he wrote, which is still more than Arcturus has done.
So, woofwoofwoof at least can be man enough to do that. That doesn't mean we're going to be best buds or anything, but I'll give him that.
