Fluff Science
What the hell is going on in the scientific arena at the moment? I've seen two "fluff" studies leapt on by the media within the last week.
First, there was the ridiculous study that declared Heavy metal fans are more prone to mental illness
Now today I see that a study links Soft Drink (Soda) consumption with violence.
Seriously? This is "Science" nowadays? What ever happened to "Correlation != Causation?!"
(I'm not disputing the fact that all Heavy Metal fans are mentally ill, but I think it's because they are mentally ill that they listen to Metal)
Maybe I should get a government grant to produce a study... I can prove using similar 'proven' methods how consumption of carrots is deadly to humans.
Quite simply, I've looked back at a group of subjects from 1800 and followed their eating habits.
I was shocked to discover that every single one of them that ate carrots is now dead!
There you go, you've read it here first! Beware the carrots!
(I believe there are links to why when you vomit from a night out on the booze that there is always bits of carrot in it, and that it makes you feel like you're going to die, however I need a $5 million grant to fully investigate this one.)

*listens to heavy metal*
j/k. Derpy scientists! O NO, METAL MAKES YOU DEPRESS! O NO, SOFT DRINK MAKE JOO VIOLENT! ...Seriously? :p
Just like those of us with mental illnesses (major depressive disorder for me) that don't listen to metal (I'm a Trance man).
And those of us that drink softdrinks and don't carry weapons or have violent impulses. (I'm a pacifist who catches-and-releases spiders, even! Plus, I never beat my ex-wife's head in, despite how much she deserved/deserves it. That disproves their study right there!)
Heh, i wodner if ANY scientist would be game enough to do a study on ME!
Let alone get out alive to record the findings >;3
Yeah, I've yet to find heavy metal that 'reflects the pain I'm feeling'. You know what does? HIM (who are metal-ISH, at best, lol) and Hollywood Undead (who are a rapcore band)
(waits for shitstorm of disapproval for listening to HIM and Hollywood Undead) lol
Plus, I have yet to hear any endlessly-repeated blast-beat with over-distorted guitars and incomprehensible growling that made me feel like my pain was shared
Also...they admit that most people listen to music, even this dreaded heavy metal (lol) for positive reasons...but then fail to identify the 'negative' reasons they're ranting about... *facepaw*
And the mass
hysteriamedia has only latched onto the "Metal music = Mental Illness" part, and that's what it broadcast on the TV, radio etc.I know it's a shock that the media would latch onto one or two sentences and ignore the rest of the research. They're always so trustworthy, truthful and responsible normally...
But yeah...gotta love the correlation = causation fallacy...people seem to keep using it, even though all it is is taking two unconnected numbers and putting them next to each other. Like the 'pirates prevent global warming' thing
haha. Nothing like some reputable science
