Red Lantern Names
A few folks on the website were chatting about the names in Red Lantern, so I thought it might be fun to illuminate you all on how they were chosen, and why. As a long-time roleplayer, choosing names has always been one of *the* most important and time-consuming parts of writing a story. . . and in my opinion, worth doing a little research over. Even if most people aren't aware of them, names go very deeply for us. Ever heard someone, heard their name, and realized how much they suited one another? Even if we don't all *know* the origin of names, it's undeniable that we still associate them with certain kinds of people, and feelings. And that's because a long time ago, and indeed even today in many cultures and parents who care to do the research, names DO have meaning.
So, without further adieu. . . .

There are a few names throughout the comic that have no meaning. Coros, for instance, is not a real name from any culture I could find. But it sounds real NASTY, doesn't it? ;)
For any and all asking for help naming characters, my suggestion would be to do some research, remember that culture matters, and can lend a lot of flavor to your character, and above all. . . take your time. The last thing you want to end up with is an awesome character with a TERRIBLE name.

They really are a good source of names, too :D
Thanks for the info! :D
By the way, behindthename.com is a great sight to do research on names. especially since you can search for names by meaning, like how I looked for names with "wolf" in their meaning...and found out that Adolf is from the Germanic name Adalwolf, which meant "noble wolf". While I see Conall being noble as well, there is kind of a name association with Adolf that I wanted to avoid, and the fact that the sound of the name just didn't seem to fit him either.
even if the current owner of the name can't see it
It is probably one of the hardest parts of role-playing a realistic character that can be related to
but once you have that, the rest flows with it :3
Your choice in names I find soothing to the ears and has purpose ^^
As a roleplayer I found out quite a while ago that dropping $0.50 on a baby name book from a thrift store was more than worth it.
While I agree wif ya 100% on a good background on Names, you seem to cover a LOT of ground/history/society! How'n da heck do ya manage, yet still find the time to do all the ART!? heh heh heh
