MFF
So first of all:
YES- I'M ATTENDING MFF
I'll be trying my luck in the artist's alley since I was a lazy horrible slob of a person and didn't reserve my table in time, and I usually have a pretty awful time asking for someone to share a table (plus i'm pretty sure that's against regulations) SOOOOOOO WISH ME LUCK
What will I be selling at MFF assuming I get an AA table? Sketchbook commissions! Nothing more, nothing less. I'll take as many as I can during the course of the weekend and finish all I have. Not taking any home so if I find I can't do the sketch, I return your sketchbook and money. Haven't had to do that ...yet, and hoping to maintain that record!
Sketches will start at $30 and prices will go up depending on how many more characters or general complexity of the image. And I'll explain how and why so dun worry!
WHERE I'LL BE STAYING- In a hotel room, because sleeping in the street has never bode well for me.
STREAMS
So everyone knows I will be streaming this week!!
No this doesn't mean I'm ignoring the commissions I have on my plate, what it simply means is that I'm going to have to start pulling in some regular income...
THANKFULLY it's not nearly as dire as when I had to pay off my car insurance. Now it's more that, much like everyone out there, I need to make sure I'm paying everything else. Lord knows there's other bills.
COMMISSIONS
So just letting you know
I DIDN'T FORGET YOU... Don't worry! I actually went through and did a metric ton of sketches last week and during this past weekend ( along with other duties) and you guys have received and given me some edits to work on with my sketches. ( No that's not bad, that's what preliminaries are for, knocking out what needs to be worked on before i get to the part where it's REALLY hard to edit :3)
If you haven't received anything yet... HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS... or check your notes, more coming this way!!
At the moment I've hit my limit on private commissions and until I've made some serious headway in those I will be turning them down.
On Comments
So... A little something on my mind. After having been an active participant in the online art community. I've kinda learn to forgive otherwise annoying or even trivial comments. But some food for thought. Being polite is the best way to get your message across.
1) Criticism
A lot of us actually like getting criticism. Good criticism, the kind that makes us improve. It's what we call constructive criticism. And if you're commenting on a total stranger's pic and you say something along the lines of;
"This art is pretty shitty dude. There's no effort at all." That's pretty damn rude.
Having been a teacher, and still teaching on occasion, I have to be just that brash or that harsh. But that's a student-teacher relationship. There's an understanding that my whole purpose of being there is to help you improve so I ain't gonna sugar coat it for you.
Now when critting, you dont' have to go down on an artist and gobble their knob like skittles ( and trust me, skittles are delicious) you can get to the point without being rude. Best way is to try and approach the matter as formally as you can.
"I can see what you're doing in the image and it's a great idea, however I would try to [ Insert crit here]"
This is not only unoffensive, but it shows you are more concerned with helping the artist grow rather than just trying to look like you know what you're talking about.
Please.. please trust me, I've figured out the right way by going all the wrong ways ( and still going the wrong ways because it's just so fun).
2) Prices
So when you go driving down the street and you see one gas station is .20 cents more expensive than the one a block away which is in just as good of a neighborhood, and their gas is just as good, do you take the time to stop, walk in and say "You're gas is way too expensive" not even buy a stick of gum and walk off? No, I don't imagine you have the time to.
If you find that an artist's prices are too high for your price range or maybe their art isn't worth the price they are asking... then.. don't buy anything. If no one buys from them, maybe they'll figure out that they need to sell their art at more competitive prices! Who knows!
it's just generally rude to tell someone they are way too pricey, especially when other people find their art worthwhile. Trust me, there's some artists on here I think that charge way too much, but they have a following and other people find them worth it- who am I to tell them they're wrong versus oh so many satisfied customers?
Commerce works very simply. People will buy exactly what they intend to buy, it's up to the seller to find out how to sell, not you :3
3) Just not your thing
So... I kinda see a lot of comments saying "this really isn't my thing." or "This is really gross." now unless it's in context of ", but holy crap this is impressive." This is another one of those etiquette no nos. Remember, people are posting 1) For themselves 2) people who paid for the art 3) the people who do dig that kind of thing.
If you don't fall into one of those categories, chances are, it's not for you... unless it's some really awkward fanart... then... well i got nothin because i've gotten the same and then i'm stuck. But really if it's not your thing, just move on. The internet ( let alone FA) isn't there to impress JUST you.
So remember, being polite is a good stand by, and you can be polite without being a suck up :3
