I don't reckon I speak accurately on anyones' behalf but my own, but I think that might be a reference to the possibility that, had he not had vast amounts of wealth to 'donate' for all those commissions that he got, Secret might not be nearly as well known nor be friends with as many of the popular artists that he is simply on the grounds that he's a 'cool guy'. From my experience, there' TONS of 'cool guys' out there, but one's people know about are either talented artists or wealthy commissioners.

So in other words people are jealous? xD I don't even know Secret, I came here through Ifus's journal about it. For all I know, Secret is a huge ass who no one would otherwise like! But it seems to be a popular trend to take someone who has nice things, and rip them apart for it around here. But if you think about it, its only natural in this virtual community that people who have the money to buy a lot of commissions become well known. Its not like anyone here can become recognizable by any other means, there is no every day physical location for everyone to meet and see each other at all the time - the way that happens here is when you commission people so much that your character is popping up all over the place. But, so what, you know? Why the hell do these people care so much about it? Are they so socially inadequate that they feel that threatened by someone having more connections than they do? All I can think of when people say "So and so wouldn't be so popular if they [insert reason here having to do with money and popularity]" is.. well.. Who the fuck cares?

Must contain either of the mascots (Fender or Rednef). Please do not include admins in the banner, but a personal character is welcome so long as they're not the focus (e.g. in the background). MUST be PG-13, should be fun and expressive, and relevant to Winter (as opposed to just Christmas).

Other banners abided by the rules at the time and actually entered them for decision, whereas this one was picked out of nowhere.

Banners don't HAVE to be posted to be live. You submit an email to them and you can choose whether to post it or not. :/ If you paid attention to previous banner artists... You'd notice that.

As far as I am to understand, he won an auction that granted him the right to have his characters portrayed in a banner. It is the right of the admin of FA to offer this to people, and it is his paid right to make an appearance. Its no different than any other place that offers a 15 minutes of fame prize. Even big companies do it, TV shows do it, it happens all the time. Its not like he just got up last week and said, "Hey FA staff, I wanna be in a banner here is a bunch of money. Thanks." He won an auction, that was THREE YEARS AGO, and never even took up the offer until now, so what does that say about it? If he was really so ego eager to be in the banner, don't you think he would have jumped on it right away?

If you read the front page announcement about the December banners, it says this:

"Must contain either of the mascots (Fender or Rednef). Please do not include admins in the banner, but a personal character is welcome so long as they're not the focus (e.g. in the background). MUST be PG-13, should be fun and expressive, and relevant to Winter (as opposed to just Christmas)."

All it says is that NO ADMINS should be in the banner, and personal characters are welcome. Now, I know it also says they are not supposed to be the focus, but Secret is not the MAIN focus gere, as Rednef is also there in the main focus spot. People are just making him the main focus, by making a big deal out of it.

Also, I have not seen any kind of rules posted before about it being against the rules to post personal characters in the banner, so if you know a place to find that please link me.

Even if there is a general rule that personal characters should not be in the banner, it is FA's website, and it is up to them if they ever want to make a special circumstance which allows it. In this case, the special circumstance is that Secret won an auction, which included his appearance as part of the deal. Maybe it was an offer made before they ever made a ruling saying that personal characters could not be in the focus of a banner, but if that were the case it would be pretty shitty to promise that to someone, and then take that promise away.

Do you watch south park at all? Just off the top of my head, there is an episode of South Park called Red Man's Greed which features the voice of a guy named Alex Glick. Alex Glick won a fan voice appearance in the show by winning a charity auction. He had a very brief and small role in the episode. Now look at this banner, it will be gone in a couple days - Secret won the auction, got offered his role, took it up, and it will come and go. There is no reason for people to be flipping out over it, or ripping him to pieces as a person about it.

He was not alone in the front of the image, he stood out more because of his colors, but he was there WITH Rednef. He AND Rednef were in 'the focus' together.

Well, personal characters were welcomed in these banners, and it is most definitely not the first time a personal character has been sharing the spotlight with the mascots. People are just angry now because for whatever reason, Secret seems to be disliked by a lot of people. I have no idea why, and so far all of the explanations given have sounded rather petty and stupid to me. I don't know him, and I don't know the artist who made the banner, but I haven't yet been convinced that this is any reason for so many people to have their panties in a bunch.

i wouldn't care whose character it was. the rules state that no personal characters are allowed to be the focus of the banner. and this rule was bent by dragoneer and the admins for this one person. it just confirms that dragoneer is more concerned with the popular people on here than everyone else. for instance, if i had made a banner with my character smack-dab in the middle, it would have been rejected.

it's a double standard, and shows that all the admins here are biased towards those that are more "famous".

i thought the banner's artwork was lovely. it was very well drawn and the shading on the snow was very nice.
however.
the fact that dragoneer posted a banner that breaks the rules of this contest demonstrates to me that he cares more for the popular artists than everyone else. had anyone else come to dragoneer with their character front and center in a banner, it would have been rejected.
and this isn't the first time dragoneer has been biased like this. just a week or two ago, he unbanned another popular artist, who has a reported history of bigotry, trolling, and harassment.

I don't see how any rules were broken. Secret is not the focus of the banner, he is there WITH Rednef yes, but he is not the main focus. People are MAKING him the focus.

Peronally, I didn't perceive the winterbanner2011 as a literal contest. I viewed it more as just an opportunity for people. If it were a contest, there should have been more rules, more announcements, and more information given about it. They never claimed it was a contest, they never said anyone who was chosen was any kind of 'winner' - this mentality is being applied by the communitys' mentality about it. There were no prizes being offered, there was no sense of competition promoted. It was simply "We're going to rotate banners, we can't choose them all but if you want to try and make one, here is how to submit it." I don't think there is anything wrong with this having been chosen prior to the announcement, because of that. And if anything, I think if there were EVER a time they were going to live up to their three year old promise to Secret to have a place in a FA banner, now when banners will be up for a very short time (a few days), is the time to do so.

Because he's persuaded so many artists to break their creeds.
But the first mistake he made was having lots of money.
People tend to eat the rich.

And then said artists go right back to defending their ideals once he's done with them. Trust me, I've tried to do the same, but seeing as I work for my money and wasn't given any sort of inheritance to blow on porn, I got turned down time and time again :(

Siroc and I were discussing how SecreT is able to get artists to draw things they've specifically stated they wont draw and how after the deed is done the artists continue to say they will not draw what they drew for SecreT. My comment comes after my question of if any artists have turned SecreT down when he asked for art they already said they wouldn't do and Siroc's reply which pointed out that not many furries come from a well off background and it'd be rare to find such a person.

The comment is about not being bribed or "persuaded" to do something you already said you did not want to do.

Nice as people say he is, that shows complete disrespect to the artist. The fact that he gets his way is pretty much a slap in the face to anyone else who wanted the same thing, but out of respect for the artist, did not ask because they had already made it clear they wouldn't do it.

Honestly, I can kind of see SecreT as being a Lobbyist to mega-artists of FA. They go in thinking the have set boundaries, SecreT comes in, throws a wad of cash at them and "asks nicely" and then all of a sudden those boundaries are gone.
