PLEASE help for a sick dog ;;
13 years ago
My dog Sammy has been sick over the past few days, just being lethargic and coughing and dry heaving. So this morning, I scheduled a vet appointment for tomorrow, and planned to bring her in then to have her checked out.
Well, we didn't make it that far.
Around four, she started being /very/ lethargic and not even wanting to stand up, and getting snappy towards another dog (and she has NEVER EVER EVER snapped or shown the slightest bit of aggression towards anything). At that point I was super worried and my mom told me to call the vet and plead and see if they could see her tonight on short notice. Well, they did, and we went while the vet tried to diagnose her. They were pretty sure she might have Parvo, but my Mom (who is a humane educator and has worked with animal shelters for almost fifteen years total) has seen a LOT of Parvo and was like 'no, not even.' So we denied testing for Parvo, but checked her for parasites. Nothing on that end either, so they gave her some subq fluids and sent us home.
So we left the vet with only a short list of things she didn't have, pockets $100 lighter.
I went to work a few hours later, still worried, and Mom kept a close eye on Sammy while I was gone.
Around 11, Sam began having a very difficult time breathing. I don't know how bad it was, but she's breathing hard now and Mom said it was worse then. So she drove her out to the emergency vet clinic and had her admitted. She had a fever of about 103.6 (102 being normal, and 104 being cause for emergency). Mom had a feeling she might have an intestinal or stomach blockage (due to her dry heaving, but not throwing up), so she asked for an X-ray.
It turned out that Sammy wasn't actually dry heaving, she was attempting to hack up fluid from inside her lungs. Her left node is very swollen with fluid, and they diagnosed her with pneumonia, but not bad enough that she needed to stay at the emergency vet. They gave her some antibiotics and a nebulizer to hopefully fight off the infection and help her recover.
However... this leads me to do something I haven't before...
Sammy's vet bills total around $600 to treat her pneumonia, and that is $600 I honestly... don't have. So I'm asking for any donations, or even to spread the word so that I can hopefully pay for her vet bills. I'll get down on my knees and beg if I need to, this dog is my life and love. Maybe it's silly, but I've had her since she was eight and a half weeks old and raised her (she is almost two now, still very young), and she is my child in all but blood (and species). I'd be devastated if anything happened to her, and not being able to afford treatment and medications so that she can get better is just... unimaginable.
So please. If anyone would be possibly willing to help, I don't even know that I can begin to express how much it would mean to me and the amount of gratitude I would have. My paypal is kawaiiyoukai15[at]aol.com , or even just spreading the word would be so appreciated. ;;
Thank you everyone...
