POOKUMS
These little creatures are elemental imps that love nothing more than causing trouble. They're mostly solitary creatures and don't play well when put together in group, unless they were born in the same nest or have been introduced at a young age.
While they can be a handful to handle for an owner, due to fits of hyperactivity, they are also immensely loving and protective creatures, considering their owners as their "parent" for whom they sometimes bring in random objects as gifts.
As they are mostly active at night, the little gem they carry acts as a light for them in the dark. They sometimes use it to attract small bugs and tiny creatures, which they will eat if no other food-source is available.
The tail of the Pookum indicates which element they belong to..
* Water-types will have a tail that resembles bubbling water. These Pookums tend to be aloof and cold at first, though they warm up to their owners once they gain the Pookums' trust. As they are water-elementals, they move with the grace and ease of a flowing river.
* Fire-types will have a tail that resembles molten lava. These Pookums tend to be the most difficult to handle as their temper is as hot as the lava in their tail. These Pookums get attached to their owners very quickly and need a lot of activity, as they love to sprint.
* Earth-types will have a tail that resembles rocks. Out of all the elements, these tend to be the most balanced and friendly Pookums, not known to have moodswings. They have a friendly and easy-going disposition and tend to trod along in a droll fashion, sometimes even waggling slightly like a goose.
* Air-types will have a gaseous tail. These Pookums tend to be the dreamers of the elemental types and out of all of them, they look the most elegant and "royal". Because they are such dreamers, they tend to forget that they have an owner from time to time, leaving for days on end until they feel the need to return to home for a rest and food.
FEDIR
Fedir, mischievous nature-spirits, are tiny mice-sized creatures that help maintain flora all over the world.
Though tiny, they can store up to twice their weight in seeds in their cheek-pouches, seeds which they leave wherever they believe a bit of greenery is needed. The fluffy bits on their body are slightly sticky to the touch and help them collect pollen to further aid the distribution of flora all over the world.
Although they do a lot of good for the ecosystem, these little critters are mischievous as well and have been known to cause overgrowth of vines or a massive outbreak of weeds just because they thought it would be amusing to see how humans would deal with the sudden overgrowth.
They live in little underground burrows which they line with feathers and flowers.
Very few of them also are attracted to shiny objects, sticking them in their floof for adornment.
HERTELING
These creatures are heavily influenced by what we know as deer, but they're born with the most vibrant furs you can imagine.
Looking at the eggs will give you an idea of what the creature on the inside will look like, but sometimes you can be in for a surprise.
Within the species there's a differentiation between the Earthbound and the Starmarked Hertelings.
Earthbound Herteling
These hertelings are known to wander the earth in groups of 5 to 10 creatures at a time, living peacefully together. Packs consist mostly of females and it's uncommon to find more than 4 males present at the same time. Their diet is mostly herbivorous, though they are not ones to shy away from eating an egg when they find one. They prefer living in forests and preferably in deciduous forests.
However, if given enough time, they can adapt to more or less any living conditions. This results in slight differences between the different packs of Earthbound hertelings, as those that live in colder areas will have more muted colours and thicker fur, whereas those that live in warmer areas will have a bright, semi-light fur.
The males of the species are know for their big, curved horns, the females have short, stubby stumps that pass as horns. In certain cases, the females may have longer, curly and elegant horns, but these hertelings are extremely rare. Both sexes have a distinctive tuft of fur on their chest.
Newborns have short horns and the tuft of fur is also less visibly present.
Mingling with Starmarked Hertelings isn't unheard of, but it is uncommon.
Starmarked Herteling
These hertelings feel at home in the sky, flying free as they zip through the clouds. However, they are still bound to the earth in the sense that they are limited in the duration they can stay up in the sky. The higher their stamina, the longer they can fly and stay up there, the longest time recorded being 4 hours. Their diet is mostly herbivorous, but in times of need they'll eat whatever is edible.
These hertelings are different from the Eartbounds in the sense that they do not have curved, thick horns, but small and elegant ones with a star dangling at the tips.
Both sexes have a distinctive tuft of fur on their chest. Newborns have short horns and the tuft of fur is also less visibly present.
The eggs can be indentified as Starmarked since they always contains a star-shaped spot on the shell.
No known cases of Eartbounds breeding with Starmarked ones are known, but it isn't completely impossible either as sometimes they travel in small packs together for a short time.
