PCA Meme! (Warning, it has WORDS)
17 years ago
(Before I start, Dance Bubble round two is full up - next round to be open as I finish this batch.)
So...I figure that since I'm doing my Pokemon-ing over here now, I might as well move the Poke-relevant memes here as well, starting with this one done by
GammaEradon.
This one is simple, it's just giving five facts about your characters that you haven't shared before or haven't worked in yet.
...or in my case, I HAVE shared this to some folks, but now it's nice and packaged for everyone who cares to see. Fair warning, I went a LEEEEETTLE bit nuts with writing these, you don't HAVE to be this informative if you do this meme!
Team Bistro:
Myra Apesta(Skuntank):
- Myra is supposed to be the Poke-verse equivalent of a Puerto Rican; aside from the accent, this fact is also shown with her family restaurant, whose menu would be a somewhat modified version of Puerto Rican/Creole cooking (true, these cuisines are not notorious for their spiciness...but don't underestimate an Apesta!)
-Has a peculiar bias towards Psychics due to how her father had such a hard time even setting up shop due to investors looking to Psychic-type consultants that kept seeing the idea of the Poison-friendly restaurant becoming a financial failure. It wasn't until he managed to convince one investor to try his food first that he finally got Apesta y Más... open.
- Said investor...is now Myra's stepmother, Brenna, a Blaziken. While they often don't see eye to eye on alot of things, Myra for the most part does hold a great deal of fondness and respect for her...though rarely will she say this in Brenna's presence.
- Most of the employees that work in Apesta Y Más... are either family members or young students trying to make some much-needed cash(And yes, you're welcome to say one of your characters works there). Lilly also works there as part of her apprenticeship with Myra's father, Emilio.
- Food's not the only thing that Myra enjoys. She also likes dancing, and even once cameoed (in nothing but a bikini) in a friend's underground rap music video, which can be viewed on occasion late at night in certain music channels, as well as online.
Angelo De Kanto(Farfetch'd):
- In terms of female preferences, he prefers Grass-types for reasons all his own. He has yet to date one...or anyone, really, the occasional dance partner aside. Not so much that he' not interested, but he hasn't really put the effort into it, despite having quite a few admirers.
- When he was little, his parents moved up to Sinnoh. Later in life, his father was laid off from his old job, the new one not being nearly enough to sustain them all. In lieu of this, plus the want to make certain their child got a proper education, Angelo was sent back to their old home of Kanto, alone, to live with his uncle while he attended the PCA. Since then, Angelo makes it a promise to visit them every chance he gets, usually during Spring Break.
- Besides Spiggolo Leeks (named after Angelo's great-great-great granfather), Angelo's uncle's greenhouse also grow regular-sized leeks (for consumption), other types of onions and other vegetables, most of it to sell. Spiggolo Leeks are only sold on commission to other Farfetch'd for a rather large sum.
- Besides "Bonewhacker", his main fighting leek, Angelo has three other fighting leeks of varying sizes, all specially grown by him. One, "Skinpeeler", is his practice blade when back home, his smallest and weakest one (a typical 3 1/2-footer commonly used by other Farfetch'd 'morphs). "Organgrinder" is another relatively weak (but larger) leek that is the most common sight in the PCA proper, as it's the one used for sparring sessions. Finally there's "Nervesealer", arguably the most powerful of all, as it is in actually a "wild" macro leek that somehow found its way into the garden and was fertilized the same way as the Spiggolos, making it just as powerful as Bonewhacker...but even more poisonous (and quite odorous up close) due to its wild nature, its inner toxins are comparable to that of a Seviper's venom. As it's too dangerous to use in school (at least in Angelo's eyes), this one is kept at home to be used in an emergency.
-Incidentally, Spiggolos are not edible, their size makes their base too thick to eat, plus the idea of eating one is considered an insult, at least to Angelo. Don't diss the Stick.
Michiel Kerstman(Delibird):
- He never actually went to a private school until he was put in the PCA. He was homeschooled.
- He likes older girls mostly from a deep-seated desire for a big sister-type. His like of Fire-types, he's still not sure of...though the fact that a good chunk of his life seeing and knowing nothing but Ice-types may have helped in the fascination for this new, exotic elemental type.
- Despite the fact that he's a certified little walking textbook of random trivia...he actually wants to try his hands at sports. Recently he got an agreement from the Principal himself to let him try out for Pokeball, which was a challenge in itself due to his age...and the fact that his parents don't know about it yet.
- Michi, as the name may imply. is supposed to be of Dutch descent, but he doesn't have a really noteworthy accent. He CAN speak it along with a little Italian, French, Japanese and, more recently, Spanish (thanks mostly to Myra).
- One lesser-known reason for why he so willingly joined up with Team Bistro was because of Angelo - the idea of training alongside the ancestor of one of the big names in Modern Pokemon Combat History books isn't something you get to do every day!
Lillian "Lilly" Umami(Lickilicky):
- Lilly's actually half-Japanese on her father's side (who is a Snorlax). She also has a younger half-brother nicknamed Benji (short for Benjirou), a Munchlax. (OOC: Still not sure what to do with the mother yet.)
- More than anything, Lilly wants to prep her team for the International Battle Chefs Cooking Contests, where one's natural Poke-moves are permitted (and encouraged!) to be used when preparing a 3-course meal to the judges. Think Iron Chef: Pokemon Version :P
- Lilly's father does catering for a living from home, mostly working on a local level, though he HAS had chance to work the occasional big charity event, celebrity wedding and school prom and whatnot.
- Lilly's father (named Kazushige, by the way) is good friends with Emilio De Kanto - it was thanks to this that Lilly even got to meet Angelo. Angelo initially joined Team Bistro as a favor to her, as up until then he's only ever been an independent PCA combattler.
- Recently Lilly has started to show feelings for one of her team members, a fact known only to Michi (sworn to secrecy for the most part) and one other. Her reasons for not revealing these are many.
Team Crossroads:
Charla Rey(Luxray):
- Charla actually didn't go to the PCA until her Junior year; early in her mother's career she had to do a lot of traveling, leading Charla to attend over three other schools before she finally came to the PCA...where she was reunited with an old childhood friend of hers.
- Prior to even that, Charla's mother was at one point working under the Garkirl family, Eureka hired to attend many a charity event to take pictures while the still-Luxio Charla assisted her as an apprentice. It was there that the young Luxio got to meeting a certain pair of Kirlia boys and got to spend some time with them, taking an exceptional liking to teasing the timid little Nigel. A certain incident ended up affecting both their lives in the worst of ways...(OOC: I'll tell this story later. Maybe.)
- Charla's father Renton owns a lighting company, selling everything from Christmas lights to Spotlights. Renton also sells Denryu brand "shock-suck" batteries - essencially cigarettes for Electric-types(*).Charla herself is a casual half-a-pack-a-day consumer herself, though what she really fancies are C batteries...which, sadly, she can't consume in public without having people think it's a pacifier. Jerks.
-(*) While these are arguably not as deadly as its Fire-type cousin, Surgeon General does state that prolong sucking on these could proves a potential health risk in terms of poisoning from the chemicals inside the battery itself. The school prohibits the consumption of these in the school proper, though enforcement of this rule has been fairly lax due to the fact that they're harmless to other people - no secondhand worries to speak of unless the battery leaks.
- (OOC: A few know this by now but I might as well share the pun-tasticness that is Charla's family's name to the rest of you. Charla Rey = play on Ray Charles ("rey" means "king" in Spanish, a tribute to the old "lion is the king of beasts" thing). Which, in turn, is actually a tribute to Ray and Charles, characters from the anime Eureka Seven...which is where her parents' names came from (Eureka Ecks and Renton Rey). Ecks and Rey are a play on "X-Ray", giving tribute to the fact that Luxray has X-Ray vision according to the Pokedex and the anime. Thank you, thank you, I'll be here all week.)
Floritt Báez(Smeargle):
- Flo specializes in abstract, Pollock-esque art (read: dance near the canvas), though she does like painting landscapes and still life on occasion. She's not much of a portrait/character artist.
- Flo's Pseudo-Jamaican accent is not just broken, it's blatantly so because of an actual speech problems she had growing up. Because of this, people peg her as being dumb and/or naive when they couldn't be farther from the truth...not that she doesn't have those rare moments, mind.
- Flo CAN change her tail color to other colors besides purple...she just prefers that color because it matches her eyes, which are an unusual color for her breed.
- (OOC: Speaking of unusual colors, if one were to take into account her beige coloring and red(purple)-inclined tail color, she's technically a SHINY Smeargle, at least the D/P variant. You tell me: http://serebii.net/pokedex-dp/235.shtml )
- Besides her older brother Hakim, Flo also has two younger brothers, Bobby and Ziggy, both Tyrogues. Ziggy shows favoritism for kicking moves whereas Bobby relates more to his Machamp mother and likes to punch.
Nigel Garkirl(Gardevoir):
- (OOC: Despite me having a recent fondness for putting Nigel in such questionable situations in my doodles, the simple fact is, NIGEL IS NOT GAY. He is, at best, bi-curious, but as his interest at this moment in time is on a certain Luxray, the point is moot.)
- Nigel is nicknamed the "Garkirl Shield" by the masses, usually derogatory, due to his unusual use of his defensive moves (Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard and Protect) to cloak himself almost constantly, making intimate contact an uncommon sight. Nigel STILL gets the occasional surprise hugger who lucks out at catching him with his literal defenses down, however.
- The shield is also unique in another way - its form. It's a semi-transparent, prismatic bubble(*) that is (usually) just one or two of the defense moves being used at the time but just so happens to share the same shape. Because of this uniformity among the moves, most fighters have a hard time knowing just which one of the shields is currently surrounding him, making moves like Brick Break, Defog and Feint difficult (but far from impossible) to time right. Only a faint blink-and-you-miss-it ripple effect between moves give the hint away, plus the shields won't defend from more than one target unless the extra effort is put into it, which only happens when in a dire situation, such as combat.
- (*)....yes, this IS a visual ripoff of the giant bubble-forcefield that surrounds the Gardevoir Pokemon assist in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, albeit in a far smaller scale that can only really cover him, though Nigel's technically predates this. Youtube for it sometime to see it in action.
- Contrary to what Nigel might say, his brother Joshua does not actually hate him. In fact, it was Joshua who pleaded Nigel's case to his family to not disown him after the spectacle he made during their 13th birthday/evolutionary rite of passage and asked for him to study alongside him at the PCA. Nigel knows this, but the fact that the family's condition for accepting Joshua's request consisted of having the two brothers fight before the extended family has helped sour whatever noble intentions Josh might have had. The fact he was completely crushed during said battle didn't help, either.
Meghan DeCinder(Magmar):
- Meg's Gym is actually based off a far larger, family-owned Gym in Cinnabar Island that dedicated itself to perfect the DeCinder's own brand of Fire-based combat. So secluded was the family that when Maia, Meg's mother, proposed to open a second Gym to share with the public, she was collectively forced out of the island, never to set foot there again (thankfully this rule did not extend to her children, so Meg and Maggie get to go visit the island during holiday breaks).
- While word on this is still undisclosed for the most part, rumor has it Maia DeCinder was killed during a match in her Gym when a former student, known for having a fanatical view of all-out combat, suddenly lashed out at Maia with moves that many claim are those of a Shadow Pokemon. Finishing it off with a powerful water attack, Maia was drowned to death. The former student was imprisoned, his fate beyond that unknown.
- Meg's grandfather, Michael, is actually from another part of her family, the Mayon family, who reside in the Safari Zone. Meg has visited there on occasion along with Maggie, her relations with her grandmother's family far less stressful than her family in Cinnabar.
- There ARE other employees at the Gym, mostly students who worked under Meg's mother. Meg's work is for the most part supervisory, though she has had to play the "Gym Leader" role on occasions, to varying success.
- Meg's love life is still a secret for the most part (OOC: Not canon YET.) and none of your darn business.

ALSO PROTIP: I care. :3 And the PCA cares at least a little more than the rest of this site. And there are small circles of writers, you just need to know where to look for 'em. <3 Art will always reign supreme on FurAffinity, but there's a place for everyone else, too, if you don't mind being overlooked just a li'l.
In Nigel's case, it most CERTAINLY works like the former, with him being his own summon :P
Eh, sucks when the school's network blocks videos. Can't check for myself right now. :P
De'shi: Hey! you can eat food at home!
Ali'imalu: yeah so, i work and get free lunch of hot and spicy dish! Yes...
De'shi: Fine! No, chocolate dessert for tonight.
Ali'imalu: What!? No fair!
Hm.. underground rap video... Myra got back!
Dang right she got back, boy. Where do you think the tank part of Skuntank comes from? *snaps fingers*
