BBC Mongrels
Mongrels friends, it is my unbearably sad duty to announce that we will not be returning for a third series on BBC THREE, a decision that has been made based on the fact that apparently you need more than two people watching a programme to make it successful. Crazy talk. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC THREE and BBC Worldwide who have supported us so strongly over the years, and helped us put our silly puppet show on the digital screens of the nation.
I’d also like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, all the writers, cast, crew and support team who have made a horribly challenging show such an utter joy to make. This news could not be less of a reflection on your brilliant work.
Most of all I’d like to thank those of you that loved watching Mongrels as much as we loved making it. It’s wonderfully reassuring to think that we weren’t mad after all, and that what we find funny, other people do too.
I’d like to believe that there’s room on television for a little show like ours; one that's not just another sitcom, one that tries to do things a bit differently and that tries to push a few boundaries here and there. Who knows, maybe we’ll find a that room in the future. I hope it has a minibar.
But why listen to me moan when you can listen to a chimpanzee singing.
Thank you for watching. Both of you

It's not surprising in a way that the BBC have gotten more conservative, either investing in existing franchises (Sex, Chips and Rock and Roll being a 'prequel' of the long-standing comedy, Only Fools and Horses) or play-by-numbers territory (the recent adaptation of Midwifes, a turn of the 1960s novelette) - it's something I increasingly noticed on BBC Radio 4 where barely any new scripted comedy gets commissioned, yet many a radio-celebrity-panel show goes on. Maybe Mongrels was a bit too experimental for the BBC Commissioners - yet with the loss of Family Guy and American Dad fast approaching (usual story, Fox want more money for newer episodes - it's why the Simpsons left BBC 2 and jumped to Channel 4), perhaps Mongrels could have served to fit the gap left... who knows...?
I doubt an American-style protest will work here, we've simply not the money to revive culled franchises, or if on the off chance it -does- work, then it may be changed for the worse. Look at what happened with Absolutely Fabulous. But again, it's all subject to opinion and speculation. I myself don't know what Him & Her is supposed to be about - maybe it's funny if you're drunk off Freshers Week or something? Blargh.
We'll see what happens at any rate; thanks for keeping me posted though. I hope a similar fate doesn't befall Russell Howard's Good News Week - I love that show. >:
Ab Fab specials at Xmas [And all since after the 3rd series pretty much] just seem like exersises in "Keeping all the actors in work" to me, its like all the charas got to say a line or 2 each and a plot wove around that pretty much
Simpsons = I got the 2 recent American "Futurama" DVD sets [Series 5 + 6] and its pretty Matt Groning is shitting himself Simpsons is getting the chop before too long, way he gushes in the extras how much he "Loves the show"
Seth McFarlne = hes FOXes current darling pretty much + I get all the DVD sets although Family Guy has gone downhill the last few series relying more on shock value and how far they can push it, American Dad I just watch cos I like Rodger, I much prefer "The Cleveland show" + I'm looking forward to the 2nd series set [Out over here on Mon] hes meant to be making a "Flintstones" remake next, can't help wondering if thats being groomed as a Simpsons replacement
Him and Her - I tried sitting though a whole ep and couldn't, its like the royale family or a piss week version of "The Two of us" [If you remember that from the 80s] but a moany couple in a flat = cheap to make telly
I actually went on a tour of the BBC TV Centre back in the summer, thought I ought to before the move and its made into a Hotel or shopping mall or whatever
It was nice to have an alternative to the usual Saturday night dross of X Factor/Britain's Got Talent but I'm starting to feel it was a victim of its own success. And now I heard rumours of interest in Scyfy picking up Dr Who for the US.... well. We'll see. I really hope James Cordon isn't the next companion (though thankfully know-it-all Amy and bit-character Rory leave this year).
Pitching the last few Red Dwarf series to a more American audience [+ Trying to get funding for a movie] pretty much killed them off too

Mongrels was a fantastic show, when I saw the advert I was sceptical as go whether or not it would be genuinely funny, but it was brilliant! And I don't only say that because it's animals who have been anthropomorphisised (probably spelt that wrong).
Did you just call me a c**t?
