i hate to do this, i reallyreally do (especially because i've done it already), but it's getting to be necessary.
back in June, we found a kitty on the street, and a friend of mine (rctwi) adopted her and named her Chell. she is a beautiful Abyssinian that somehow lost her home. however, Chell wasn't the healthiest cat around, and she needed some medical treatment that we couldn't afford. thankfully, with help from a lot of awesome people here on FA and some real life friends, we got her the help she needed. ever since then, she's been almost completely healthy - and definitely happy. she eats, runs around, makes a lot of noise and enjoys burrowing into the blankets.
there's one health issue that hasn't gone away though, and that's a painful and dangerous growth on her bottom lip. from the beginning the vet suspected that it was caused by allergy, so we've tried changing her food, her food bowls, putting her on a special diet, and i don't know what else...but it hasn't gone away. she's gotten a few steroid shots to help (which assured that it's an allergy with how quickly they take effect), which heal up any infection and close up any open skin...but they don't make the growth go away, because the allergen is still around, whatever it is. in theory, we could keep getting her these shots, but then she runs a strong risk of becoming diabetic, which would lead to even more troubles without ever solving the mystery of this growth on her lip.
what WILL fix the growth, is a series of one to three things: an allergy test (~$600), a biopsy (~$400), and surgery (?$$$). the allergy test should be all it takes, and the other two are just backup in case that doesn't solve the issue.
this, sadly, is where you come in. we can afford general vet care and smaller things, but we can't afford these heavy vet bills, and i've been asked to spread the word and see if i can find help before things get worse. unfortunately, i can't offer to do commissions to raise money, as i have a rather large load and i'm trying to raise my own money for school. so we're asking for help, whether it be advice, donations, or anything else you can spare. we would greatly, greatly appreciate it.
if you have any advice to give, please leave it here or direct it to rctwi. any donations will go directly to her via paypal: jenniferl_88@yahoo.com
vet bill goals: $600 --> $1000 --> $1500
total money raised: $82.75

just let me know what's happing and i'll do my best to help ya out
well, we're almost positive that it's an allergy. we just don't know what the allergy could be that would 1) be on her lip, and 2) cause something like this growth. she's had it since we found her (and who knows how long before that), and we've tried changing her food, food dishes, even litter, etc.
you can see it in this picture here. it's very red, fairly large, and looks puffy. i'm not sure how firm it is, as i don't want to touch it and maybe injure her further. if left untreated, the skin on it will rub open from normal use and get infected (which is why we're giving her steroids for now). if you've ever seen/heard of anything like this before, i'd love to know ^_^
When my dog had open sores on his ankles, rubbing vitamin E oil helped them to heal.
Actually, my grandfather had a dog years ago who grew these little pinkish pustules on her lips, eyebrows and stuff. But they never grew in size and she lived her whole life with them. I guess what I'm saying is, you don't need to fix her if she isn't broken. If she is comfortable that is all that matters.
hmm, actually, i have some vitamin E. we'll have to run that by the vet and she what they say. i guess the growth is painful if it's touched, and if left untreated it gets infected. maybe the vitamin E will help that as well, but we definitely can't leave it alone, so we'll see how it goes.
