copyright applies to a) claiming someone else's work as your own, b) distributing/profiting off of another person's work, or c) sharing/posting someone else's work without their permission. it's still copyright infringement if you edit the original and post it as your own. for example, I could not make a remix of a song, post it on youtube, and post it as something i made. I would have to obtain permission from the songwriter and/or singer to legally do it, but since that's usually difficult to do, I would at least have to make clear that I did not own the rights to the song and it belonged to <singer/songwriter>. it doesn't matter if it's edited, since I didn't create it, it doesn't belong to me. copyright laws (though very often grossly taking advantage of to the point of stupidity) are there to protect artists and their works from being just taken from them.

like try to remix it first, remix as the best as you can then post it!

what i'm saying is you cannot simply edit someone else's work and call it your own. it's illegal. you can remix a song and give proper rights to whoever it belongs to with their permission (though, again, in the case of big artists, that's difficult to do), but not say you made it. there are laws against that.

i understand that you're just trying to share it, and that's fine, if it's on a site like youtube or something and you acknowledge that you don't own the rights. something like FA is for work you have made or works that have been made for you. so you'll probably get a lot of people mad at you if you just post stuff other people have made.

also, when i said it doesn't matter, i didnt mean "it doesn't matter, you can use it." i meant it doesn't matter if you remix it, it still doesn't belong to you.
