Ok, I keep getting this question bot in public posts on my submissions and bot in private notes. "Why would you name a cat Worthless?" So I am taking the moment to post a journal to explain the name.

The name is an unintentional name dubbed on him by my dad. Worthless adopted my family. He just showed up on our porch one day. He would do nothing but sleep on the porch and eat whatever food mom put out. He always had (and still has) a careless attitude. He never really let anything phase him (and still doesn't).

At some point my dad said something like "What a worthless cat," or something along those lines. Ever since that half joking tag stuck. His name is not intended to be mean in any sense of the term.

Since taking Worthless with me when I moved I haven't changed his name. It is the only name he has known for the past several years. The name has no indication for my love for him. He's one of my boys. I love all my babies. Worthless I call my little old man since he takes his sweet time doing anything and I love that about him. So many people rush and rush and let the world pass them by, but not him. Worthless seems to enjoy ever little second. If only everyone could take a page from his book.
