Cartoon(s) of the Week -- A Triple Feature!

Let's take a look at three cartoons from three different studios that all have a similar plot/premise.
First there's MGM's Heavenly Puss featuring Tom and Jerry, made in 1949:
Then there's WB's Satan's Waitin' (yes, that's really the title) featuring Sylvester and Tweety, made in 1954:
Finally, H&B's Heavens to Jinksy featuring Pixie & Dixie and Mr. Jinks, made in 1959:
Warren Foster wrote the scripts for both Satan's Waitin' and Heavens to Jinksy. (Reportedly, Joe Barbera wrote the script for Heavenly Puss.) Puss and Waitin' both feature demonic dogs in Hell (there's an evil mutt in Jinksy, but not a literally devilish one). All three cartoons manage to come up with very different endings to their similar premises.
My favorite of these is the original with Tom & Jerry, followed by Mr. Jinks (who is sort of distantly related to Tom). Because I love Sylvester so much, I rather dislike the grim ending of his cartoon. (Wake up, Sylvester!)

My only problem with that one was the characterization of Jerry as an "innocent mouse". Jerry could be a real jerk at times.
Thanks for sharing! I love old cartoons. And...have hundreds of DVDs to prove it. :P
