Metal Chicks
^.^ If you can read this, you deserve a cookie ^.^
For this installment, we have a band that formed in 1977 by sisters Jody Turner (age 13, guitar and vocals) and Julie Turner (age 9, drums), and Jody's friends from school, Tracey Lamb (bass guitar) and Donnica Colman (keyboard).
I know, I know. A keyboard in a metal band, what were they thinking? Anyway, the band was called ROCK GODDESS and the four of them rehersed every spare moment that they had, managed to get a track onto a sampler album through a friend and thank to the Turner's father (who owned a record store), got a few gigs.
In 1982, they cut a demo and were snapped up by A+M Records.
After their first album dropped in 1983, Tracey Lamb left the band because she felt that the Turners were dominating the group. Personally, I think that if you think that the drummer is dominating the group, you had best keep it to yourself unless they're of the same caliber as Karen Carpenter, Phil Collins or Rick Allen.
She was replaced by Dee O'Malley, who played bass and keyboards. The band recorded two more albums but there were problems with the release of the third album and the expiration of their contract with A&M, cutting their careers short. The various member have tried to restart the band or form others, but it has never worked out.
Well, except for Lamb who formed an all-girl British club-band called she that lasted all of about 2 years. But, in 1987, she joined with Girlschool and stayed with them until 2000. But they come later.
So, there you have it, the briefly shining star of a bunch of teenage girls, ROCK GODDESS. The vocals are harsh and the instrumentals are raw, but the metal is pure and hard.
