Derpy/Ditzy

This is pathetic. This truly is pathetic! Of all the stupidest crap I've learned, this is by far the ridiculous!
This incident just reinforces my disdain to 'hardcore' fan-boys of certain shows, especially MLP: FiM.
Now I am a fan, so are my friends, but we're not those bat-crap crazy fans that obsess over every little thing. What I'm talking about is the change of Ditzy Doo, a.k.a. 'Derpy Hooves'.
For any fan that may know, we see 'Derpy' in the very first episode. People who caught this cross-eyed, I don't know if this was an error in animation, or on purpose, but you know that she became a fan-following; loads of art, and even making videos about it. Such dedication and love, I do have respect for people like that.
This caught the attention of Lauren Faust, which she had originally thought of the name 'Ditzy Doo', and the acknowledgement got the fan-named Derpy on the show. If you've been watching, we do see Derpy numerous times, and in the episode 'Last Roundup', they finally give her a speaking role. And Primus only knows how many fans were happy. I didn't at all mind the voice she had, a bit over the top, nothing offensive about it....But..... apparently some people did take offense at that.
So much so that they had to change the voice. Early this week a friend of mine pointed me to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2CRjPO73Dg&list=FLwKqJWnb87Upok8RsHDZapg&index=4&feature=plpp_video
Her altered voice instead of like a 'mentally challenged' person, she sounds more like a, y'know, typical dumb blonde. And honest to God, this new voice isn't bad, its makes her more innocent and childish. Not that the original wasn't unique, oh no, like I said I had no qualms with it.
Derpy was originally named "Ditzy" in the episode's production. However, they renamed the pony to "Derpy" as a shoutout to the fans. The episode was removed from iTunes a week after its release, and put back up on 24 February 2012, with Derpy's scene altered: a few words are ommited from the dialog, in particular Rainbow Dash does not name Derpy; Derpy's voice is different and more feminine; and Derpy's eyes are not as acutely crossed in a few of the shots in the scene. This alteration does not appear in The Friendship Express DVD.
The decision to alter the character was made by Hasbro and the Hub themselves, and was done in response to emails sent in complaining about offence caused by the character's "Derpy" characteristics. I do get she's meant to be an accident-prone klutz, not to offend anyone.
The fans' outrage was enormous! So enormous, that the Brony Community is obsessing over this change. They've made videos saying; 'Rest in Peace Derpy, Save Derpy, My emotions when they changed Derpy's voice'.
They're bitching and complaining about something THAT IS NO BIG DEAL!!!! This was her only goddamn speaking role that lasted for only like a minute! Seriously, this is not even that big of change You, fan boys, brought this on yourselves when you first noticed this pony. This is the same idiotic nonsense about that goddamn 'Jynx Incident' when she first debut in Pokemon, which I didn't mention in my last journal because it was so friggin' stupid, caused by stupid people. It's all about appeal people, and you should've realized this right out the starting gate.
This is why I groan and roll my eyes at the hardcore fan boys who bitch and complain about changes in Transformers, Star Wars, even Star Trek, when the changes presented are no big deal and were changed with reasons to avoid difficulties.
Derpy ain't dead and ain't gonna die, you idiots! And this is Hasbro's property, they have the rights to it. Derpy was never meant to be offensive to mentally retarded kids, and I have no reservations on saying that anyone who was offended by this portrayal - whether they be disabled or not - is a fool. The outrage of a tiny minority should not ruin the fun of a huge majority. But, fan boys, don't obsess with something this trivial and utterly stupid!
If any hardcore fan boy is reading this and leave hateful comments below, I dare you like Daring-Do!. It will just make me laugh even harder at how pathetic you are about this stupid outrage.
I'm not like this normally, my fans. I was tired and hungry when I learned about this, and the amounts of bitching my friend, a huge pony fan, kept on yammering about hit the nail in my head and up my ass! Or my PLOT!
If you'll excuse me, I need to buck something.

FA+

And if anyone actually cared about Definitions...Here's one for idiot.
Usually offensive : a person affected with extreme mental retardation
Yet people still say idiot all over, on TV, on the Radio, and various other places.
However, the hordes of Sonic fans/Fanatics/whatever that foam and froth at the mouth because the Sonic games they have aren't perfect is what I'm talking about
WHAT THE HELL IS THAT OVERREACTION FOR??? O.O
Overall i like the new voice and she should still be called Derpy. Thats my opinion and everyone else is entitled to there own.
Alternatively nobody knows how dumb fans are like NORMAL people. :P
At the same time, the other side needs to cool down and realize that the people at MLP had NO IDEA this could be offensive, and have sincerely apologized.
So, yeah. Does this make any change in how "Ditzy" will show up in my fic? Not really. It just means I'll have to remember to keep things sweet and sympathetic, and stick to the intent and wishes of the show creators.
'nuff said
Gist understood.
TL;DR: Community shouldn't freak out, but neither should you; however, we have to do something, otherwise the creators could get blamed for more stupid things like this.
