Long ago, at an Anthrocon far away, the Blotch and I had a conversation. They had come across some of my work and liked it, and I mentioned how I enjoy that so many of their pieces felt like they had a story behind them. We started flipping through their print book.

Memories from Old English class stirring in my mind, I said "Oh right! He's a Pict!"

To which, they replied in unison (as is their custom): "You know what a Pict is?!"

So I wrote a story.

And it got into Heat.
