I have discovered a basic operating principle of all American problem-solving, and it's probably true of most of humanity as well.
It's called the W.P.O. Response, for Worst Possible Option.
It works like this:
Something bad happens.
Even (or especially) if it is an isolated but horrible instance in an otherwise safe and smooth-working system, people immediately assume that because it happened once, it will not only happen again, but that it is an epidemic waiting to happen.
Inevitably, someone in authority will seek public recognition by sternly condemning the bad thing and saying some variant on one of the most ominous sentences in the English language: 'Why doesn't somebody DO something about this?'
At this point, Americans will inevitably choose the Worst Possible Option to respond with. The one that will not only not work, but will make the problem far worse. This option is chosen for one reason only; because it appeals to people's base instincts. It fits with what they 'believe', even if it flies in the face of all rationality.
Examples can be found in trying to stop school shootings with 'zero tolerance' policies that further alienate outsiders, relieve school administrators of any thought or responsibility, and just generally make kids more pissed off at the school. Or in reacting with horror to the idea of illegal immigrants being given driver's licenses, even though that is the best possible way to keep track of them. Or in trying to stop terrorist attacks with draconian airline 'safety' measures that border on rape, allowing torture of prisoners even though the only place torture ever really works is in the movies, and bombing innocent civilians in countries where the terrorists are not actually from.
You can even find local examples, like morally outraged city councilmen trying to keep people from looking at porn by mandating filters on public library computers, despite the fact that these filters Never Work. Or in people reelecting, term after term, the mayor who is continually mired in scandal, but who's just too charismatic to oppose.
Heck, some people even protest at dead soldiers' funerals because they hate gay people. I still haven't figured that one out.
So, whether it's beating up homosexuals to deny gay urgings in yourself, attempting to stop teen pregnancy with abstinence education, or even just kicking appliances in order to fix them, you can be sure that Americans can always be counted on to ignore all evidence and common sense in the pursuit of solutions that allow them to continue being as paranoid and xenophobic as they like, by ensuring that the problems they constantly complain about never actually get any better.
In fact, next time you see a hornet's nest, you'd better throw a few rocks at it. Because there's a chance some of them might decide to sting you, and it's best to get in a pre-emptive strike.

Was more appalled at the “Attack Ads On the Way” story pointing out a crack in campaign financing laws that allows unlimited anonymous contributions to 501©(4) groups to run political ad campaigns and hit pieces like the ones coming this Fall attempting to rally right wing sheep into supporting a Bush White House electronic spying bill. The same people who've coerced and compelled your telephone, cell provider and ISP into providing the government complete and unfettered (read: warrant-less) access to networks and communications to and from you, are planning this additional fuck you before being knocked (the fuck) out of office.
Civil liberties are dying and not enough sheep of any stripe seem to care. We have a dark and depressing future ahead of us. {/rant}

Two things: firstoff, the city mayor in the cartoon series "SWAT Kats" is exactly like you describe. He even says, "You don't get re-elected for ten consecutive terms without being a tad crafty!"
Secondly, the dead soldiers' funerals thing. Ever I find the assholes who do that shit, saying that God kills someone who fights even when he doesn't want to because there are *gasp!* gay people in America...no. I'm not gonna even say it. They don't deserve to know what's coming to them.

Like why does a group overtly-religous homophobes protest dead soldiers as well as 9/11 victims, bridge collapase victims, and Heath Ledger (may he rest in peace) just because their insane pastor tells them lies that say "God will destroy the world because there's tolerence for gays and we'll be the only asscending to heaven whilst faggots other sinners burn forever in hell". Geez does anybody have any TP because all hear is crap!
And don't even get me started on the "zero-tolerence" thing in schools just to put a stop to school shooting. I was almost expelled from my high school a few months ago just because I made a finger pistol sign at some ignorent, waste-of-space, jock who was made some stupid comments about me expressing my "non-Christian" beliefs, even though told him to stop as I was growing more angrier (its kinda hard for me to say or do the right thing in conversations due to the fact I have a minor form of Asperger's)
In fact, its seems like Americans want no taxes and more benifits from the federal govn't. There not get it and from my band teacher (a political science minor) told me that were soon gonna have to pay higher taxes with no benifits due to national debt and the past Repbulican presidents (Reagan and the Bushes) digging us deeper with tax cuts and believe or not he's conservative himself. He has a philosphy as well called "People are stupid and I am people"

PS: A politician's job is not give people what they want, its to get reelected and that's it.
There was a kid at my high school who was a straight-A student, loved by teachers, a perfect student. then our dumbfuck principal decided to ban trenchcoats. (Because, after all, the *trenchcoats* made Harris and Klebold do it!) This straight-A kid immediately went out and got a trenchcoat and started wearing it every day in protest, *daring* them to expell him, until the ban got lifted a week later. Hells yeah. This kid's a hero.
As far as taxes go, I have a very simple solution to the problem. First, we repeal all the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy and we bring back the estate tax. Then we tax _churches_. Having a big imaginary friend should not preclude you from supporting the government just like any other business. In fact, the bigger the congregation, the higher the tax. And double it for Scientology; because it's never actually been a religion, ever.
Re: the P.S.; absolutely. Hey, here's an idea; maybe at the end of a president's term, the voters should determine his salary. ;)

That kid was a hero. Wish there was more people like that at my school. Our school dress-code states that all boys must wear collered shirts. I hate wearing polos, so I choose flannel shirts and apparently hoodies, sweaters and pullovers count as collered shirts *big grin*
Your ideas on taxing somewhat inrtigue me, since I believe the upper-class should get taxed more sonce they have practically money to burn. The church-tax, all I have to say about it is that I'd be safe from it since I'm have Ecletic Wiccan beliefs, which means I can practice my religeon alone at home and create my own rules. Its like the total oppisite of organized religeon. Yay!
As far as takes, people should pay what they can be reasonably expected to afford. I wonder how much money would be raised if the gob'mint took, say, 1% of everyone's total income?

Scientology isn't even a religion. There's no worship at all, as far as I can tell. If they just called themselves a self-help group, I'd ease off on them a bit, but nooooo, they want that tax-exempt status.
I am pretty atheistic at this point, meaning I believe strongly in an afterlife, one that's probably more real than this one, but that I can't see any reason one single supreme being has to be running it.

I've experienced school 'zero tolerance' policies firsthand at my high school; I even ended up getting suspended once because of them. My home city is the one where they're trying to force filters on the library computers because of _one_ incident. The scandal-ridden mayor refers to one near here too. Hell, Fred Phelps even protested two cities away from me once. So don't fucking tell me I'm only getting my info from some imaginary liberal agenda, pal. I'm basing my opinions on what I see with my Own Two Eyes. And what they see is a _mountain_ of ignorance and fear-mongering and willful stupidity.

Bin Laden was born in Yemen, his father decided to emigrate to Saudi Arabia so he could put his son Usama in a Wahhabist school when young Usama was about four or five. History takes over after Usama left his school, first he decided Israel was bad since they did not worship Allah, and America too was bad because they did not worship Allah, he went to Afganistan when the Soviets invaded and became a 'Holy-War Fighter' eventually to the status of a Warlord.

So i decided upon the Air Force if i had a choice.
As it happened Congress cut funding to the War, it ended because the Congress wanted to a: give themselves a raise, and B: vote into office a democrat President, and C: make the entire war all the Republican's fault even though John F. Kennedy sent troops in there first, ten years prior.

There were zero tolerances in my high school too, nothing has changed. It is because though, older, tougher and stronger when youth gets power they go ape-shit with it and wind up screwing up everything. Hence the zero tolerance policy then, as now.
There were attempts to allow students in high schools (the 70's and the early 80's) to have more power, a few times, in a few places in the country. However, with certain alienated people ( i was one of the alienated. If things had gotten any worse Columbine would have been in Dublin High School Quad at lunch break in Dublin California about circa 1972. Things got better the gangs decided to pick on somebody else.) abused the freedoms and went 'Ape-shit' with they're power. So it was taken away and 'zero tolerance' applied instead. This was the case because schools and teachers and administrators got sued and they don't have millions of dollars set aside in the state budgets to pay off the disgruntled, hence the draconian though effective, 'zero tolerance policy'.
The left wing Illuminati's agenda is to tax everyone more and take away your privileges of freedom from your having too much of your own money to use to better your life with. It works like this , (this is real there is NO politician from either side of the aisle that will explain this to you, BOTH sides use the same exact formula for their own ends.)
A bill is created to fund the replanting of Arbor trees in Fort Wayne Indiana. Like all bills taxes fund it and checks got out from it to improve and replant Arbor trees. The money for this bill, from new taxes, goes into the Federal Reserve Depository the USA bank specifically designed to hold all the money fro the budget of all bills and laws in the entire USA. Now, like all banks the Fed pays an interest rate upon any amount of money put in so that say Congressman Shultz can divert some money to the SSI for a period of time or something similar. Other banks have a use interest rate they pay of less than .001 %. the Fed on the other hand always pays ten %. no guess who watches the money from the interest rate rise or fall, who keeps track of this money? NOBODY, why? because it is an interest rate it varies according to how much each tax brings in.
Now the proof for this lies in the numbers each side uses to promote their version of a bill on CSPAN1 or 2. the Democrats numbers will always be lower than the Republican's numbers, they will always be from 9 to 11% lower than the Republicans numbers!
When Republicans are in control they can divert the interest money to pay off the trillion dollar deficit so that it is what about a few billion now? how did they drop this amount of money in deficit? and still give tax breaks to the so called 'rich'?
When YOU and YOUR buddies vote liberal Democrats into office this money will go into THEIR wallets.
This bigger picture brought to you by my investigation and research into how government REALLY works, ...nothing i have just stated is provable until of course the next time Democrats hold up their 'lower' numbers for a bill saying "...the Republican's are all wrong the next law does not generate enough Taxes, we need more!"

However as a solution the admins may only state that you should block me.
