Greetings and salutations, friends!
Your friendly neighborhood ferrox checking in an official update of our recent (and pending!) changes.
We decided, rather than do an April Fools (which you'd all be expecting anyway), that we'd make changes to the site instead. Viva le progress! We're rolling out the update over the course of this week with various features, many of which were requested by the community itself.
Phase 1 - COMPLETE
* Enhanced Thumbnails - Bigger, more consistent thumbnails and gallery views (with color-coding image rating and rounded corners). We've re-written the thumbnail system entirely (which will help support future development such as larger submission uploads!). We're tracking feedback regarding the thumbnail system on the forum! We will be making an update to permit multiple sizes for thumbnails soon! So worry not!
* Revised News System - My journals will now be the official "news feed" of FA! +watch me for updates delievered to your inbox, or just check in when notices are posted with a News Alert on the main page!
Phase 2 - Coming Later
* Streamlined Header - Revised, more compact header which takes up less space and makes navigating to all areas of the site faster and more organized for quicker aspects to all major portions of the site.
* Disable Notes - Don't like FA's note system? Feeling insociable? Not a "note" person? Users will be able to disable the ability to receive notes, offering privacy and peace of mind if they choose.
* Hide From Guests - Users can now hide their accounts from guests or random Googlers.
* Hide My Favorites - Sometimes you just want to keep certain things private.
This update will come accompanied with other minor update and tweaks to help streamline performance (via memchached pages) and additional goodies.
Also of note: we're also looking at each and every page of the site, and will be making some tweaks and adjustments to quite a few pagesover the course of the month. More compact, better layout.
We're listening to feedback as it comes in, fret not!

They openly post their email address and request commissioners contact them via that. They prefer this because emails can be sorted in to folders and can be quickly searched.
No artist is cutting clients off (unless they choose to ignore people, which they can do anyway in notes) So if someone turns of their notes, then either they post their email, or they get no customers.
Simples
Plus, the situations you are concerned about are possible by just ignoring people anyway.
But even if they could the people that had their trust of the FA system voluted from that hacking won't be to likely to return to the FA note system no matter how secure it gets. People are fickle.
via journals or emails etc just to get the commission. I'd just be careful with communication on the phone. Theres no real way to track a conversation then.
Totally agree with you.
Basically, people will eventually get in regardless of how good the security system is, so it is better to focus on removing the goods they are after rather than guarding them better.
How, exactly, does communication on or off site effect whether or not an artist will be lazy or not finish your commission? I've seen a lot of artists show up on AB who've used notes on this site and a lot of artists who don't, so I really don't think there's any correlation to that.
This has to be a godsend for the artists who hate the note system and if the artist finds it easier to keep track and communicate with e-mails, isn't that a good thing that they're keeping track of something like that?
But notes aren't really 'private' because the admins have access to them correct? xD I don't have anything to hide, I just prefer email because it's alot easier for me to read them and organize. c:
Don't make promises you can't keep, Piche.
I think the layout is fine but it could use a new, fresh design after 7 years of existing, right? Or at least more than just two different color layouts.
Simple but modern, that's what the design should look like.
I also think instead of updating the site once each second year with some tiny things they should work on a completely new site where all thise planned updates are already integrated, so that they dont need to work on that for a new site layout.
But well, I guess it will take years, FA will celebrate the 10th year with that design I bet XD
And also... if you dont want to fave born but want to see it whenever you want it you still could do a secret folder onto your computer where you could save them, that easy it is XP
i really hope they do this soon, i know a lot of FA will be happy with folders
And to be able to re-arrange them and change their ordering at whim. That'd be nice :3
Used wrong such folders might cause more problems than help.
Pools might be a better idea since then you can connect images to multiple groups.
That is one thing I loved about the old sofurry. Even if it'll take a long time to allow folders, I'd like to be able to find a few stories or pieces of art in a gallery mainly filled with other things.
So yes I totally agree. Communications should be 2 way
OR, there should be a whitelist where people who's in can send note to the artist who disable Noting.
>allow users to pick their own thumbnail size. i don't like this granny thumbnail size right now
We can hide from guests? Ohmygosh. looking forward to that.
BEEEE
that is unless they're using later versions.
still though.. agreed on that 'basic' point.
vita, however...
was pretty impressed.
PSP 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, Go.
2K and 3K are the best two models, imo.
your '3' and my '5' are wrong then. 4 models as it stands then. :P
Of the original psp, there are 3 models. then there is the Go.
If MyNameIsZura had a PSP GO, this conversation would not have even occured, as there is a definite difference, because it is a different product. As for the 3 models of the PSP, there is very little difference, and can be easily confused, especially 2000 and 3000.
"the 4000 IS the psp go"
as long as it has the title of 'psp' in its name, it is henceforth a model.
just as the NDS is still a GameBoy model. (Nintendo GameBoy Dual Screen. Nintendo Dual Screen for short.)
i've studied product merchendising for years, so i know how the namegame works on sales :)
and one cannot say if events would/not have occured differently or not. because we never know since we cannot travel parallels. ;)
MyNameIsZura did not know which of the 3 psp's he had. IF HE HAD THE PSP GO, ANYONE WOULD KNOW THAT THEY HAD THE PSP GO AND NOT THE ORIGINAL PSP, WHICH HAS 3 MODELS.
MyNameIsZura did not know which version of THE ORIGINAL PSP he had. The PSP GO NEVER ENTERED THE CONVERSATION until you stupidly tried to "prove" yourself, in a conversation you obviously did not bother to read, or figure out that we had finished it.
Now kindy shut up, or I will report you for harrasment.
seems yer being upset over my just trying to discuss something. and yes, as i said i've NEVER once owned or touched a Go. i'm not proving myself in any manner, i was just simply adding a notation of thought, which we've already corrected several times, and YOU carried it on as if i was trying to insult that lacking of an ego. :)
that is all. take care then dude.
If all development went that way, we still would have ISA extension slots. Just saying.,. :)
Same with Hide My Favourites. ><
We shall see...
WOW, I am definitely looking forward to this one. I didn't know such a thing was possible on FA. I'm not very tech-literate -- do you think you could give me a very simple explanation of how something can be hidden from search engines? Is it as simple as opting the page out of search results?
If User is a Guest Then
- Redirect user to home page (or a page that says, sorry, you can't see this)
Else
- Show desired page
End If
makes some peoples eyes hurt.
cant be as discreet in public some have said.
made my organized listed all fked up now
i think there should be an option in which size they are
Not to be rude, but please read the post completely, next time.
All you need is an optional 'Disable Comments' on submissions, and I'll be happy. xD
The thumbnails are too big imo, and I liked them better before, oh well, happy to see come changes though!
I would love if FA would implement a folder system like DA has though, would be great for those of us who have hundreds of submissions in our galleries. lol
The folder system would be lovely. x_x
The right to speak doesn't mean there's a right for that speech to be heard by others.
As for why to disable it, does it really matter? If they don't want to be open to chat, that's their right, and they don't need to give a single reason why short of a legal matter (for which commenting on a submission hardly qualifies).
I mean, why would you show someone something and then tell them you don't want to hear any of their opinions on it? I get not wanting flak or being yelled at or criticism, but that's what the hide comments and block features are for, if peoples' skins are really that thin.
And, again, why should you or anyone else get to say what the poster has to hear? There's no legal or moral obligation for someone to have to listen to commentary on their work by others.
And no, there's emails for file sharing. Or if you NEED to upload it, that's what photobucket, imgur and imageshack are for. This is not a dump site for people's shit they want to show everywhere, it's for artists. No one who can't take any commentary should be posting on a site that publicly allows comments and favorites. If people get that upset they shouldn't be posting here.
As for "no legal or moral rights to not let people comment", bullshit. It's their account to do with as they wish, as long as they stay within the limits of the Terms of Service. Not yours, not mine, not J. Random Furry's. Theirs. If someone doesn't want comments, they're within their rights to not take them, and there's [MiB]precisely dick[/MiB] that you or I can do to change that.
(I suppose that admins could change it if the user did select the disable comments option, but you think there's been shitstorms about admin decisions before? Wait until the reaction to admins arbitrarily changing the settings of other users' account settings just because someone else doesn't like what a person is doing with their own account.)
just like BACK IN THE DAY of Yerf and VCL ^_^ omg oldschool
Versus,
offering a user the added "protection" against unwanted comments completely, which I think is really pretty valid.
The short of it: if a person doesn't want advice, they're not going to take it no matter what.
Give them the choice to disable comments and they're that much happier.
I know it must be frustrating to you if you want to offer people help -- but people who want to be helped, will be receptive to it. If they don't, they won't.
I'm running dual 24 inch monitors, and I also dislike the new icons.
- On userpages, the favorites no longer display the "faved on" date but instead the "submitted" date. Very minor but just thought you should know.
- I swear the comment notifications are now being sorted newest-to-oldest instead of oldest-to-newest. Did this change? Will we be able to sort them on our own?
There are a number of dead accounts that are just abandoned.
(See orange text in the journal)
Let's say, a user like me, sends a note (a lot of people like them for commissions) to another user about a commission, but if I have my note feature blocked, are they still able to reply to me?
since ya cant receive notes then :V
And to disable custom user thumbnails for submissions per user. I personally like to not have to deal with user thumbnails, I just like to see the image itself as the thumbnail.
Then there is the case where sometimes a gallery is full of vague, partial thumbnails, or simply textual ones, and one must click every image to find out what they're like, instead of being able to tell what is interesting or not at a glance.
I like being able to actually see the whole image as a thumbnail, all the time.
No promises yet, though.
Say a commissioner is displeased. He posts that he was taken advantage of, then blocks the artist from his page. Now said artist has to rely on 3rd person information to refute the claims.
Or (less likely here, to the point where I'm not even sure it happens) in an art theft scenario. Block the original artist, they don't even know that you've stolen anything unless someone bothers to take a screenshot.
I
t can cause a lot of hassle, but it can also save a lot too.
I think the block user by page thing should be a separate block.
I'd also like to see a feature for viewing what artists upload in groups by each artist.
Way to go FA~
*zooms off to the team to run it by them*
IE, you'd go to someone's gallery and AdBlock their thumbnails (adding a block filter for d.facdn.net/art/(username)/* ) and this would cause any of their art on the front page to just show up as a black square, because the thumbnail image is blocked.
With the new system, it appears that thumbnail files are just loaded directly from the database, instead of being in an "/art/(username)/" thing.
There are a lot of artists on FA who's art I'd rather not see :/
They have every right to post it, I just don't want to see it when browsing/searching.
Adblock was the perfect solution, but not anymore ):
I'm also wondering if there are any plans to do something about groups, such as changing their profile type from a user account to a group profile, change how submissions are submitted from other users rather than uploaded, etc.
Seconded on the groups thing. FA really needs proper group support like DA has. Would greatly simplify things for me, and would also save me the trouble of logging in/out of accounts just to handle updates and such. Not only that, but group faves would be visible to group members, also making it easier for them to keep up to date.
The hide comments and block user features are there for a reason.
hide from guest users? ...not sure...
disable notes option? I'm OK with this...
You're only just wasting more time and more money on your coders.
The more I look at the current FA, the more my eyes burn. I just hope the doctors accept Fender Dollars. :V
I am disappoint, son
(In a more serious note, I blame the coders more than Dragoneer/Fender)
THANK YOU.
The thumbnails especially are a huge help!
D8!
I always end up deleting one I don't want to delete because I can't see which one the delete button is for.
I mean just a different color line every other journal would help with that.
XD
I mean.. I knew that. I was just testing you. Making sure to keep you on your toes.. Yeah..
((that's right, Rika, cover your shame with lies))
or "quit da interboobs!!!" when you have to delete one submission at a time. And can the same apply for favs?
Its annoying to go to my favs and see said people left the internet, and then there are a bunch of X's everywhere.
I am having an issue where select individuals are still able to +watch; even after being blocked prior.
Like when the FA banner would be updated and it would show who was picked.its how I have found some really good artist!
Will that be back?
Or probably not?
Stop looking at porn in public.
I take my computer to a cafe every day and I don't check my submissions inbox. It's that easy. If you're waiting for someone to post something for you, they'll most likely send you a message anyway, so you don't even need to check your submissions inbox.
For the people complaining about what the faves thing says, who cares when you faved it? The upload date/time/whatever is accurate, isn't it? Why do I care if you faved it ten minutes or ten years ago?
So I guess FA is finally turning into what was promised a while back?
Stop looking at porn in public."
This x 1000. lol Totally agree!
http://sfw.furaffinity.net
This changes EVERYTHING
IDK, for stuff like that it's pretty useful!
I have my laptop at work because I work a job that gives me some down time on good days. I just don't go to my recent submissions list and wait until I get home.
One question though - I've noticed that all images are being served through HTTPS. Is there any particular reason for this? The encryption is very likely the cause of some slowdown because each image needs to be encrypted for transfer...but I can't see why this might be required. Is there a particular reason your images are set up this way?
I do really like how the new thumbnails look, however. Especially the rounded corners but I think the front page looks like a mess now that the news isn't on the side.
Any word on custom thumbnails working again? The only place they work as inserted via the current process is the thumbs on a person's frontpage beneath the single large gallery preview. Just not a fan of the idea of having a larger image of diapers and things such as that shoved in my face because peoples' warning thumbnails aren't working...
this
this
and more
this
(but otherwise I got nothin)
And how about being able to show thumbnails in journs?
Plus I guess the +watch on own page could be done with.
Other then that. Keep it up. :)

Don't worry, they wont even consider it a possible option.
I mean, I definitely absolutely see where you're coming from 100%, because you've got the experience of leaving helpful/innocuous comments that someone sensitive took the wrong way.
On the other hand if that person feels uncomfortable or threatened at all then well it's really their prerogative to do what they have to in order to feel comfortable, and IMHO if that means completely blocking someone from viewing/faving their gallery.... so be it.
Technically, philosophically, it does work though.
If you register a new account to watch them then the artist is none the wiser -- that is until you make another comment to announce and reveal yourself, in which case the artist can cite you for harassment.
But how different is that kind of harassment compared with watching/faving someone when they've already blocked you? You may think it's quite different and fair enough... but to the person who feels threatened it's all the same to them.
But if you don't draw attention to yourself and simply watch them quietly, fair enough. It may not be fair to you, and a PITA to maintain multiple accounts, but at least the artist in question isn't given the opportunity to have a reaction anymore.
I think it's fair to generalise, here, that if an artist has someone blocked it is probably because said artist is being harassed or feels otherwise threatened by the person they've blocked. As, you know, two off-the-cuff examples:
-I would really rather not have the person that assaulted me +watching me, and I feel uncomfortable with my art being visible in their +fav list. Yes, I realise that this person could just go and make a new account to watch me and +fav my art, and either I won't recognise it is this person and thus I won't feel uncomfortable with it; OR I will and I can just re-block them. OR worst case, they'll have to manually go to my page every day and save my art to their hard drive; again I don't care because I don't KNOW they are doing this, so ignorance is bliss?
-A friend of mine uploaded some images of their infant child, and had them all +faved by some cub porn enthusiasts. Very much a thing they were NOT OKAY WITH. They can block the cub porn fans and prevent comments on the images; but I think it's pretty understandable here why they wouldn't like their submissions showing up in these folks' +favs?
If someone feels threatened to the point of blocking a user, they really ought to have complete protection from that user. Yes I realize it's a point of semantics if you are able to create a whole new account to re-watch them, but you must understand that sometimes even seeing a person's name is a threat to some people and it acts as a "trigger" to anxiety.
It's not easy to deal with, no. I understand that. The people who deal with anxiety understand it's not easy to deal with. But they need to deal with it in whatever way makes them most comfortable.
If they do not know the name of your new account then the artist is none-the-wiser. They will have no further reason to be triggered by anxious threatening feelings unless you make yourself known again. It's not easy, it's not fair, but it's life.
Wouldn't randomly blocking someone cause a lot of drama, though? I mean can you imagine the furries that would realize someone has banned them from their gallery and go into a tantrum about it, seeking sympathy or revenge, and make drama out of it? I know that would cause more drama for the artist if they had just ignored that person in the first place and dealt with the uncomfortable feelings they get if they see their name or something? Especially if the artist is prone to anxiety?
That's just what I see happening. I mean, I really can't see the majority of problem furries taking being completely shut out without a word, very lightly.
I guess FA could ban them if they start causing trouble about it, but I dunno how much that would help in the long run.
YMMV. That about sums it up...
I've had to block 1, 2 people from my FA? I remember doing it before but they're not on my block list anymore. I didn't have to deal with any drama, I suppose I executed my blocks subtly enough? I haven't had to deal with a lot of drama firsthand, but you know what I think?
Screw that. Blocking someone on FA is kind of like blocking them on AIM. If you block J. Random Furry on AIM and they go creating drama about you across the internets, seriously that's their problem and not mine. I can't foresee it, there's nothing I can do about it, it's out of my control -- but I have the satisfaction of no longer having to personally engage this person any more. So they have complete and total freedom to stick their foot in their mouth and make themselves look like an ass in public, really all they want.
Not my problem. :3
I can definitely understand how someone with anxiety might be avoidant of conflict to the point of weighing these two options side by side, that is the choice of blocking someone with the risk of their slandering their reputation and thereby causing even more anxiety. Which is definitely not cool no matter how you slice it.
All I can really do is acknowledge this possibility and speak for myself... and since I don't have to deal with these anxieties my perspective is different. I think it still all boils down to a YMMV judgement call though.
Regardless -- the choice of whether or not to block someone seems mutually exclusive of an issue of how comprehensive a block actually is; and moreover I tend to think that a majority of users inclined to block a pest would want complete protection as opposed to partial protection.
As for that, yeah they like my stuff but I don't like them. I had another guy once fave my stuff to be an ass, and he was an obvious troll and got banned eventually on the site.
I have some creepy people who watch me, ones who've confessed their undying love to me and won't leave me the fuck alone whether on FA or even when I block them on IMs. They still try to get my email, IM info, etc... and it creeps me out when they fav a bunch of pictures from me. I don't like them, I don't want to be reminded that they exist and would rather shut them out of my life completely.
Online Status.
You guys had it before, then quickly removed it.
I like it, I would want my commissioners to know when I'm online working on their art.
And if people rather keep to themselves, they can go 'invisible', like one deviantArt and other websites and IM programs.
+1
I don't get rid of all my tabs often~
http://www.gunbound.ca/scriptlets/f.....%20quote%20lol
Now it's broken >:
Is it just me or are preview-sized pics bigger too? Nice, FA, nice.
Intriguing how this comes right on the heels of DA updating their thumbnail size as well.
Yet FA somehow beat them to the punch. What has this world come to?
But, I love that you're listening to us, and I love that we can comment on updates. :) That means a lot.
Seriosly, I watch more than a thousand artists and having larger thumbnails helps A LOT to click only art which is really worth seeing. That's how it should be. (Previously I had to rely on user scripts to see 300x300 thumbnails.)
My screen resolution is small (1028x768) so the new thumbnails are gigantic on my end.
But this is all moot point, since the staff are listening and are bringing back the small thumbs. :B
but the "disable notes" feature leaves me a bit weary
It's hard enough to get in contact with some artists. Some in the "not so responsible" category in particular. I feel as though notes are sometimes the only contact of information a commissioner like myself has with the artist. Other than shouting on their wall.
I feel as though this will just ad an aspect of difficulty for long standing commissioners.
thoughts?
Not only that, the note system is horrific on terms of organization. For some it's not a preferable way to communicate with others if they want a commission. Some, like myself, prefer to use e-mail to communicate with others. Not only that, e-mail text tends to be a lot bigger than what you get in PMs.
Which will work about as well as "Don't fav this" works for temporary pictures whose descriptions are explicit about the submission not staying up forever... and wind up with like a half-dozen favs within the first few hours of the submission's existence. `
And...how is this any different than an artist who prefers e-mail and has their address readily available with notes disabled, anyway?
I deal with 20-30 clients simultaneously at any given point in time
up to 30 people
It is really really really really really difficult to keep track of everyone's information using notes.
Gmail search, labels, and stars, all the way.
but I feel as though my argument still has merit. It's hard enough to get in contact with some people
I don't mind them and I don't dislike them...but please give us the option to go back to old ways too~
The CSS is (where β2β is desired width in pixels):
center.flow s > a { border-width: 2px !important; }
Though I can see why it may be a problem for others, with smaller screens... so the ability to change the sizes / or revert back to the old thumbs would be pretty cool.
The new updates sound pretty awesome though, can't wait to see them!~
Also, folders. o3o
this times a million
I'm on a laptop and it makes the thumbnails even BIGGER! ):
A more serious suggestion... Would it be possible to add a filtering system for the notifications (pertaining to +watched members)? Receiving a notice for new Submissions and Comments (and I suppose +Watches) is important to me, but I don't care so much for the numerous +Favorited and Journal notifications. If I could disable those, I would be so pleased...
Also, as mentioned above by others, I support the idea of the ability to disable +faves (particularly because I generally get fewer than those who re-submit my work, with permission of course... >:[ ) and comments on submissions.
Needless to say, as an artist, I don't have a need for anything that isn't inclusive of FurAffinity's standard array of tools and settings.
I currently use this one-
http://userstyles.org/styles/43539/.....nity-darkheart
Oh that's right
not started lawl
also is the avatar system gonna get updated to include adult/mature avatars similar to how every other furry art site does it? (so furry and furocity as a couple examples)
as for stories turning into "???" that is because you need to learn how to work the initial format when uploading it into a .txt format. it took me a few hours of tampering to figure it all out, but i eventually did. (and it's better than copy/pasting the effing story too <<' cuz that is what really ruins it)
it really is more simple than it sounds though ^^" (surprised i felt so dumb about it when learning)
and i have not ever touched IB, but i've heard some mixed things about it being hit or miss for everyone. so i can't vouch for or deny it.
and that could be why with yer version of Word. although, you got the better version of it, imo. <<" fucking hate '07 version. :P
i completely agree on the thumbnails still. it's seriously fucking with my eyes as it is now. and i haev good eyes too. :I
I like the notification bar; handy! Sounds sensible, overall :)
I think it bugs me because the coloured shadows are too subtle but definitely destroy the layout, when everything else is nicely colour matched in pale blue (or whatever you have it set to)
center.flow img{
margin:0;
border-radius:4px;
}
This is what makes the curves.
Not a big fan of the large thumbnails in my submission list. Look forward to this option. *paws up*
One of the major things I would love to see is "Folders"! Man that would be pure win.
Also a way to purge your images a lot easier and faster.
Someone mentioned deleting journals which I have to agree, going back and removing and older journal for what ever reason seems to be really complicated.
Also isn't there a way to not be notified when someones decided to unwatch a user, or when you delete comments from a journal?
1. Gallery Folders
2. Disabling Comments/Faves on pieces
3. Gallery Storage/Hiding - As DA has, so you're not forced to either scrap, or delete everything if you're taking a hiatus.
4. Mass selection for deletion on pieces (and journals) instead of doing them individually.
5. Having the text, formatting, and colour options available on Submission uploads. As opposed to just on journals and comments.
It seems you're already addressing the thumnail option size, no notes, and privacy issues. :)
Thanks for the hard work so far, looking forward to getting FA into a modern age of interface and ease of use :)
xxx
As far as the gallery hiding option is concerned, i personally loved this option on DA. And would much rather have that, then having someone ragequitting only to return a few weeks later and reuploading EVERYTHING they had in their gallery. Instead of just selecting from private to public.
Cuz I know you and I both have had the issue of someone commenting on a journal that clearly said "Do Not Comment" just to be an asshole.
Why? It's not that I'm exactly averse to murrypurry comments... I just want people to think about the comments they do leave just a little harder.
I would probably disable comments for sketches/scrapped images, but allow them for more detailed finished work. I think that's really pretty reasonable.
And I can't speak for other people, but it's your prerogative as an individual to maintain your own comfort levels when posting your artwork in 'public'.
I agree with most of this stuff as well some good suggestions I think.
Oh, and I think it'd also be nice to have different folders for journals as well. For example, "Commissions", "Personal", or stuff like that. People may only be interested in an artist's commissions and do not want to hear from their personal happenings, so I think it would help keep their inbox clean and save them a bit of time!
I'm liking the other ideas though. I can see the reasoning behind them if anything else, yet I rather toss this out now while I can and you all are actively working.
(and the new thumbnails are just fantastic I loooooove them)
Chill the fuck out, homie! The admins and staff aren't here to pander to your shitty ass internet service!
So you were the one to flip the fuck out.
May wanna read the full post there, champ.
* Hide My Favorites - Sometimes you just want to keep certain things private.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs
all of my want
Also tag filters. For the love of god, please implement a tag filter system.
I don't want to see some peoples' journals...there are some artists I love a lot but I don't want to hear about all their personal problems or issues with friends. I want to see them for their art, and not read about their favorite youtube videos or how their parents are mean to them
"I just faved xxxxxx at FA!" and they are all porn faves... most of them anyways.
I wouldn't want FA's Twitter buttons to work that way, either.
http://www.addthis.com/
all FA coders would have to do is add one of the codes to the submission page code probably somewhere between the Image display field and the Image description field.
2.Tag Blocking
3.Disable Comments
4.Improved submission/journal management system (i.e. deleting multiple submissions)
5.I definitely agree with having something along the lines of a rich text editor. For people new to coding it's a really big hassle, especially with links. One thing that I've seen around is that upon clicking the hyperlink button, a popup comes up for url input, and then another one comes up for text (if you want text replacing the link as so) This would also be very useful for inputting user icons..
6.Chrome has an extension called FA previewer in which the picture is enlarged when you hover the cursor over the thumbnail. If this could be implemented it'd be very convenient
Just throwing some stuff out there.
only the fav hiding is kinda a downer, but thats just me, loving to surf favorites :3c
also, i really like the new thumbnails, thanks!
Oh thank god, I know some people wanted larger thumbnails, but it just feels weird to me.
Number of damns given - none. I give no damns.
So funny how the user/nonotes account has so many trolls who are frustrated at not being able to understand why some people don't want to use notes.
Notes just make it harder for some people like me to work.
But that goes to show you just how seriously some people do take refusal of notes, which is really kinda frustrating too.
It's just ridiculous. I just shrug my shoulders and move on since I'm not paying for this website to bring me services and what I want.
The site's text size if FAR too small at high-resolution.
tools>options>content check your font size, mine's set to 16, that may work better than ctrl+ which makes *everything* bigger usually. [Firefox]
tools>preferences>webpages click "times new roman" and "consolas" to adjust the sizes, see what works. [Opera]
tools>internet options>general>appearance click on fonts to adjust [IE]
click the wrench>settings>under the hood>web content adjust fonts here [Chrome]
That should help. My screen is 1680x1050, but I've also used these adjustments to great effect on 1920x1080
Besides, the problem is this website and not all websites. The font here is FAR too small and adjusting it my end to be big enough at the cost of all other sites having massive fonts isn't a solution.
Font size isn't something that should affect the site at all if they put in a system where you can set it yourself as nothing needs to be buffered.
?
I mean, it's a horrible idea anyway, but it's a manageable sort of horrible if at least users can be warned that a particular submission can't be linked beforehand.
If the new "sleeker" header includes the skinny-ass, crowded-against-the-top-of-the-window menu bar on the beta site, it's not particularly user friendly - most users don't expect relevant content above the site header.
Getting stories back above the fold on the front page would be nice, too.
I like the new notification for site updates.
The ability to hide your page from guests is a godsend.
Now all I really want is subfolders in my favorites and gallery.
Will that be coming back?
Otherwise, awesome changes~
I hope you make the thumbnail changer thing soon.. accessing FA has become a pain now :(
I hope you make the thumbnail changer thing soon.. accessing FA has become a pain now :(
OH, yeah. Great idea there, dingus.
this journal has been tagged with: gaming, l4d
this journal has been tagged with: streaming
Ignore all journals with the tag "streaming"
That would be absolutely spectacular,
I think it would be good to clear out old accounts that have been inactive for 12months or more, there are a lot of good usernames with no art or activity on them.
And I demand folders
May I make a recommendation or suggestion? Randomizing favorites! I remember back when I was on DA, I could display a random favorite!
1.) Blocking a user automatically removes them from your watchlist and removes the Add to Favorites and +Watch links. I have a creepy guy I blocked a while back who constantly faves my stuff and it's rather annoying. Also add the feature where blocked users cannot view your profile, and blocking the user prevents YOU from commenting the user as well.
2.) FOLDERS. PLEASE. I have like 4 different accounts for my stuff because of this reason >.<
3.) Ability to disable comments and faves on submissions.
4.) Ability to block a user from a tabbed link on the profile.... like "Block User" instead of entering their name into the box in your options. Maybe a "Report User" link too.
5.) A "report submission" link underneath submissions, which automatically brings up trouble tickets.
6.) Online status such as "Online", "Idle", and "Offline". For those who don't want to appear online they can disable their online status and appear offline.
7.) Maybe a character profile bio feature like Nabyn?
8.) Ability to disable comments in journals, great for journals that have stuff like "art queue" or "commission prices".
9.) Increase icon embedding limit.
10.) Add more Contact Information fields like IMVU, Nabyn, Tumblr, LiveStream, TinyChat, SheezyArt, Google+, etc. and maybe add custom fields as well.
11.) Ability to make custom folders for notes.
12.) Maybe a "Recent Visitors" widget on profiles like dA has?
13.) A "preview comments" or a "preview description" feature so you can preview what your comment or picture description looks like before you post it. Maybe also a feature where you can edit comments.
That's all I have for now! ^_^
I love all of these suggestions.
Slow down there, guy, you might make the coders' heads explode, haha.
As a OC lover, I'd also like to get the character bio thing (#7) as in Nabyn, because I sometimes find it difficult to find pictures of characters or fursuits that I find interesting. In Nabyn they also have a thing called "Guest art", which allows you to upload other people's art as a reference for your characters, and it could be shown as the character's illustrations but redirect to their original artist.
What about a page with all the current ads? I don't know how many times i have noticed an interesting ad seconds before a new page is loaded and i have to refresh the page for 10 - 15 minutes before i find it again.
Defiantly would be nice.
I'm following close to a thousand people. You expect me to pick out journals from Fender in the massive list of other journals that spam my inbox? At least have it as a separate notification that LINKS to Fender's journals.
The news that was on the front page was awesome it made it seem like a more drawn together community, like no matter what there was easy access to news updates.
Gallery folders would be nice since I'm super obsessed with organization and I'd liked to put commission And personal in separate locations.
Mobile uploads would be nice. But that's a stretch?
Look forward to phase 2!!!
in all honesty I dont even go on the front page anymore because of the new thumbnails. D:
I started thinking it was only me noticing /being bothered because nobody else said anything about it. It looks as though you're supposed to be able to click the little symbol in the lower right corner for a description, but doing it just sends up the full picture.
Also please, PLEASE make art folders for us so we can have an organized gallery instead of making hundreds of accounts just to keep things in order. I know this is asking for too much but me and a lot of people have been making this demand and request for a long time now.
(Not that some don't do it anyway... )
the otter said, in all caps, to draw attention to it
The only thing I don't 100% about the thumbnails is the drop shadow, how about make it non-angled or a bit lighter.
Oh and will the streamline header mean no or smaller banner D:?
Or better yet, make the front page galleries customizable? Each of the sections on the front page would become mini-browse windows, with all the search settings set to whatever the user wanted. Don't care about writing, but want a separate section showing only otter-art? Easy! Just change a few setting and hit save.
Most of the code for this probably exists for the browse function anyway, and it would let everyone make the front page show whatever they most enjoyed.
We hope to allow further breakdown of it in the future via the search/browse pages.
mature, adult) posted to FA.
Β Β Β Β Β There were about 31,000 pieces of poetry found.
Β Β Β Β Β One in four text submissions to FA is poetry!
Β Β Β Β Β Taking Poetry off the main page as a submission category is therefore an
Extremely. LARGE. Mistake.
Β Β Β Β Β Enhancing Search/Browse (it being in the future) does not redeem you from
this present fubarishness.
Β Β Β Β Β When will you bring it back as a separate category? Yesterday would be an
acceptable answer. :- )
Fred Brown.
Was this from the new update? It started when the update came around, actually. Halp!
I thought this sentence meant there is an official thread specifically to post feedback on this update.
But where is it? I don't see one.
There it will be an option someday to block journals from certain people?
i.e. you subscribe to somebody and get all the art BUT the journals.
If nothing else, at least add custom labels for us to add in our own mini-favorites categories.
* Hide My Favorites - Sometimes you just want to keep certain things private.
Tossing in that these might put a damper on the ability to discover artists, or at least trying to externally promote / sourcing them using their FA gallery.
I do understand the need for privacy, but something does get lost along the way IMHO, which is expected.
It's like being disrespectful is "cool."
It's a free site, people. *Rolls eyes*
Also, I agree with others on having folders! Please consider this! It would make out galleries more clean and easier to navigate, especially for those who do commissions etc.
We're looking into forcing entire site wide encryption soon.
(Personally I had absolutely no issues with the previous layout, and prefer it over this one.)
Lets add "Close Account" Botton to your list
I had a name in mind when I first made my account years ago, but it was in use and inactive. Same with the next three I wanted. I got stuck using the name I was sick of before I even came here. :/
We're in discussion behind the scenes as to what we can do provive something of a more permanent solution for this.
So far I don't mind the changes all that much, might wanna make the red and blue, especially blue, borders around mature and adult thumbs slightly thicker though.
Not gonna use those "privacy" things though, I got nothing to hide, in fact I would prefer if people could find me and my art from anywhere =P
But I guess I see what you mean.
Can't help but feeling it's a bit paranoid though.
I believe they need to update the note system so you cant accidentally send empty notes. Like a confirmation saying "Are you sure you wish to send this note? [YES] [NO]". That way I dont wind up sending empty replies. Makes me look stupid, even though I can laugh it off. I don't want to leave people confused or anything.
When making sweeping UI changes, its nice that users know what's going on, and what to expect. Granted, this is a "Fun" Site, but things like this do disrupt people's workflow while they feel out the new system.
If nothing else, the FA team could have been saved a lot of "ZOMG why are the thumbnails slow/not Working/Wrong/Big" Style questions they've been fielding over the last two days.
Work with the users when rolling out - we're not that scary
mostly i'm just messing with you guys by bringing it up though. just for laughs.
I am looking forward to all the changes that are being made to this site. Right now it's just the home page that's bugging me.
It's nice to know what people are enjoying that you put up.
At least that's the idea I got from the description.
Basically it would hide your own favs from view but it would probably still note the person who owns the pic you faved that you did.
I could be wrong though.
Thank you admins though for all the hard work and excellent changes thus far.
I ask because I would like to switch to e-mail for commissions, but if I need to find an old message, I'd like to be able to do so.
Thanks!
I very much prefer using email as a means of communication, but don't want to risk disabling notes if old notes are to be lost, since I still have information in them that I still need to access. It would be great to know this in advance.
A system made where you can put in tag words you would like to be filtered from your inbox. Kind of like a block list for things you have no desire to see.
There are a couple more I'm sure everyone, including me, would like to see, such as:
1) Adding folders so we can better organize our art into separate categories that users can choose what they'd like to see. The ability to hide certain folders would be awesome, too!
2) Having an option to disable custom thumbnails, so you can see a miniature sized version of the image instead of sorting through confusing and sometimes unrelated thumbnails to browse someone's gallery.
3) As
4) Adding an Online Status where you also have the option to set yourself as Invisible.
5) To go with the "Hide profile from Guests" feature, adding the option to let only people with the direct link to the submission view it would be very nice.
Aaaaannd...that's pretty much all I can think of at the moment!
Nice work on everything so far!
There's still a possibility they could revamp the whole thing to make it better than before though. :D
Anything coming for music submission thumbnails? :3
Nice job on the changes so far.
As for a compact header; You could move messages to the left/right of the username, then under that have a quick-access to the standard "browse" or an un-advanced Search tool. Now that I think about it, probably the latter. It'd save time and make looking up specific pictures much easier; so that you can be looking at one picture or story and then think of something like it that you remember but want to check; you then have the currenet reference, rather than getting to the search and not quite knowing how to describe it or forgetting after being distracted.
Just my personal opinion, and hopefully this at least gets a look.
Can we PLEASE use a keyword blocking system when browsing in general so i don't have to see certain users works or certain themes in more general categories? For example.. im disgusted by Anal Vore.. so id simply input that keyword, and viola.. i dont see pics of that nature. I could also do a users name.. ex. Charem, and boom.. i dont see any works by him at all including those that people draw of him.
I was kinda surprised how many was *cough* Bitching!!!!!!!!! Sheeese
I hope its not all of them since I love going through other peoples favorites and finding great new artists :3
-Being able to manage your 'subscription' to who you're watching.
If you hate receiving journals or scrap submissions from them, you can edit that setting.
I'd like to see:
1) A "Remove from Submissions" button on the submission itself.
2) A way to read all my Journals like LiveJournal does instead of going back and forth between the entry and the journals list.
3) Different fonts and background colors!
I like the larger thumbnails on my home monitor, but I have a old netbook for cons and I'm not sure how they'll look on that smaller screen.
add templates
put APPLE back on the species selection list
make official group accounts
* Hide From Guests - Users can now hide their accounts from guests or random Googlers.
This is the sexiest thing I've read all day.
*Folders or the ability to have multiple pages in a single submission (like IB). Sometimes it's such a huge hassle digging through an artist's gallery trying to find the first page of a comic if they don't link it in every single page submission.
*Groups: Not sure if it's be possible to integrate at all, but with DA and Sheezy, you can submit artwork to or join various groups. Could help others get their art noticed rather than digging through various artists favorites.
I have to say that at first I was thinking that new look for the thumbnails was FAΒ΄s April fools joke, but looks like you guys finally are starting making efforts to update the site.
Keep up with updates and definitely IΒ΄m looking forward what you guys have been thinking for the site :3
Still,I have been wondering when we will get chance to make folders to our galleries to make us easier to organize pics in certain theme.
And also it would be wonderful to have a chance to remove the favorites easier, specially if the artist who deletes the faved pic.
So far we have to look our "Favorites" gallery and browse every single page and pic to remove the deleted pic from "Favorites" gallery.
Other than that, A+ for me. <3
Lets change the site banner more often, like once a week.
Lets face it, a lot of users on here every day, or at least every other day.
Even the best banners get stale after about a week.
This gives more people a chance to be featured, and if you don't particularly like a banner you wont have to suffer as long.
The christmas rotation was awesome, although it would have been better if the rotation was more on-schedule.
The original size was good the way it was.
I think that instead of adding new issues you should fix something like the deleted submissions in favourites problem?
Something we've had forever but still has yet to be touched.
Though. I MUST say. I do like the prospect of larger uploads.
Being a musician that is REALLY helpful considering its very easy to break the 10 MB threshold.
A "preview" option for notes, comments, and shouts. It'd be nice to know what your message will look like before you post it, for proofreading, and of course making sure you didn't goof up the code tags.
I can actually see what I'd be clicking now! THANK YOU!
An updated layout.
For personal taste, customizable text, pages and layouts for users.
Such as
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/546166/fa/page-rev-2.0.png
i miss the old FA >.<
When managing favourites it would be nice if we could delete multiples rather than keep doing them one and annoying at a time and if the submission in favourites has been deleted it should automatically be removed from all favourites lists.
I find that fa is very slow at the moment too.
*hugs* thankyou for listenining to us
Thank you for this!
Thank you!!!
So, will there ever be an override option to show true previews of the fullsize image regardless of what the artists have uploaded as a thumbnail?
itd be nice if you provided support for those of us on extremely small resolutions :]]
i'm looking forward to being able to block out guests, notes, and favs. an EXTREMELY good move there in my opinion. i don't like people being able to snoop in my stuff, with how judgmental people have become these days
And I read ferrox as xerox. Me derpy \{Xw@}?
Really hope they do bring it back, though.
More would be nice, but given this isn't anyone's "day job" I'm not going to get pissy about X or Y feature not available.
After the thumbnail options are all set up, it'd be kinda nice (but in no way super-important or necessary) to get some numbers on which setup is being used by the userbase (just generic numbers, not the settings of individual accounts). Like I said in another comment I made, above, those who like the new thumbnails aren't likely to be complaining about the change, so all the "ME NO LIKE" comments are making it sound like no one likes the change (which I know is BS for at least one person, namely me, and a few others have said they're okay with it). I can understand if that kind of data gathering isn't feasible or desirable, however, which is why I won't throw a hissy-fit about never getting those kinds of numbers.
As for the blocking comments/notes stuff, I doubt I'll have need for it, but FWIW I fully support it on general principle. Sure, some may want to comment on something, but I'm all for more individual choices available, even if it may inconvenience some that others want to be asocial shut-ins.
Anyway, here are my thoughts:
The update on the thumbnail system was great. Although there's the drawback of not needing to see the actual image with such large new thumbnails.
I'm curious as to how you guys will streamline/alter some of the site pages. Even how you'll update layouts. I enjoy the site's current simple, boxed look as compared to other sites. I honestly think it brings more focus to the art.
I don't understand the need to change the site banner. It's honestly not even that big.
I really like the update to keep guests away from my gallery. I hate the misfortune of having some folks in my immediate family find mine, which doesn't contain anything I wouldn't want them seeing, but if it did... well you can imagine.
And from some comments made before mine, being able to block out specific artists or tags while browsing sounds like a really great idea.
I worry that by disabling notes completely then I as an artist will have no recourse to contact someone who's volunteering for a commission and doesn't have an e-mail address listed in their profile, but at that point it becomes even more their responsibility to contact me I suppose. Still, worth it.
I find shouts obnoxious sometimes, too. What can you do.
I honestly don't care that they're streaming, or posting some sort of meme
It's annoying having to delete them every 5 minutes.
Folders/organizers.
Favorite Journal ability.
It's a small thing, but the "back" and "next" buttons at the bottom of Artists galleries... can you add them at the top, too?
Hiding from blocked users.
Filters and posting streams would be nice.
And deleting more than one piece of art at a time.
Or even, the ability to completely hide and un-hide submissions entirely.
Just ideas. Some other art sites already have.
Why don't you try to rollout the design that was shown a few months ago, it seemed pretty consistent and streamlined.
* Streamlined Header - I think thats a good idea
* Disable Notes - i don't really see a reason for this feature, i mean what is actually the use-case for this ?
* Hide From Guests - nice idea, shouldn't take long to implement
* Hide My Favorites - Good idea too
I would suggest that you start to redesign your database, maybe getting to the point were every user is represented by an id.
And putting the moods into a separate table and just saving an id for the selected mood in the profile.
Aren't users represented by IDs already? My ID is 8963.
You can't delete your account because the system has no way to handle the information associated with you, all they do is clear out your messages and your art and leave the account.
That creates a lot of dead accounts in the DB.
Security is so "good" that admins are only allowed to login in from their home ip that previously was unblocked from the system.
The upload of .doc and .pdf alway made me cringe, you can hide a lot of malicious code in those.
I think there is a lot in the codebase and the database that should be changed to ensure that the site itself works fine and is secure.
Looks like you don't know what you're talking about. Sure, FA has numerous problems, but the ones you listed aren't at all.
Doc files still are easily spiked with payloads, the amount of people you might get is small but you still can trick people into activating macro-functions etc.
I don't think that dead accounts are good, because you accumulate trash and slow down your DB over time and waste space. I am simply for deleting the stuff a person put here, simply because they decided to leave this place.
Limiting the ip-range can help to improve security, but it depends a lot on implementation.
What i listed were some examples of how things are build up and where problems come or might come from, i did't not claim that those are the most pressing problems, i just choose stuff from top of my head.
And about that UI update.. the one that was shown a few years ago that never came XD
Id love too shrink down my list, to people I actually know and do commissions with. Not random trolls.
That's...a bit odd, since the purpose of an art site is to...get people watching you....don't think it'll happen. How about just blocking the trolls?
I have a few watchers that are my personal stalkers/trolls and they use my personal information and stuff I post to spread it to others and just snoop around to see anything new to "lulz" about.
I like the idea of having the option to take away unwanted watchers. Not EVERYONE are devoted into art just because this is an art site... some are just out to mess with you.
Just my opinion.
Personally I love the new size.
I mean... then why are you uploading your art to the internet? For having it hidden? meh.
Also the hiding favorites can be a good idea, but in the long run, as somebody said, feels like "Hiding your favorites. Because you're ashamed of what you like". Also, as an active artist, there's nothing more stressful than a message like "Somebody faved your pic but we won't tell you who". Is like the "Your favorite have been removed" and you are "whyyyyy".
The only features i'd love to see:
- Unsubscribing to journals (as said in a comment before)
- Organizing into folders (one of the few things that deviantart have that are cool)
- Layout customization or, at least, more styles to choose. The white one is ugly but the black one is boring already. Why not giving more customization like inkbunny? Options in there are limited but you can customize to certain exempt.
- Disable and Enable the new thumbnail system manually in your settings, that way if you're going to be in a mobile device you can set up old style and vice versa.
Love the new thumbnail system BTW, its rad :)
But it would be nice to make folders, we can clean the images in the folders, also folders for our favorites.
That is why we don't need a terrible mess of it.
If I have an account that I've dutifully "abandoned" and still log in periodically to clean out messages (submissions, journals, etc.

Also, something showing when an artist is streaming.. like some sort of separate notification would be AMAZING. Really sick of all the "STREAMING NOW" journals/submissions. They tend to flood out the ones that might actually be worth reading.
I do hope something can be done about this because it's not easy for me because I have severe Austism and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
It's more pertinent to me when I discovered it than when it was uploaded by someone else.
Agreed!
But the thing that's really bonkers is serving images via https. What on earth is your thinking? You'll be suffering a massive CPU overhead endlessly encrypting images on a site that's already dogged by performance issues, and now there'll be no caching whatsoever on proxies and ISP web accelerators - no matter how far in the future you set the Expires header - causing more slowness for many users and an increase in image requests.
Other things I think you really should fix, a note system that doesn't append re: to every single reply, and is threaded, as one would expect from any messaging system today, and a system that can send email alerts to new notes. Or better, forward the message in an email - much more convenient!
A note system that's actually called a message system and other "message" notifications renamed to something truly meaningful (someone else's journal post is not a "message". Someone else's submission is not a "message". A comment is not a "message". A shout is not strictly a "message" either).
I'd even go so far as to suggest a journal page similar to FA - don't give me a list of names and journal topics (which I've long, long since stopped bothering to clear - there's just no point), give me a page of journals. It's much easier to tell at a glance if the content of a journal is something I want to read or not. I believe this is what made LJ so great and why so many people stick with it. You could do something similar for submissions too - just let me see them as they appear, in order. (Personally I clear my submissions "messages" when I've seen what I want to see, but only because it makes it easier to see when there's new ones. Journal "messages" I long stopped clearing out, and because I can't glean much information from just the subject, I long stopped bothering to look at. Am I alone there?)
Access to messages, submissions, comments and shouts through sensible sized links that aren't all smaller than my fingertip on a smart phone and not squashed up against normally seldom clicked links (such as control panel, log out!) After all, I bet virtually all users use at least one of those links, squashed away in the very top-right, to launch themselves into other parts of the site. They must be the most used links when first visiting FA, yet they're still the worst thought out usability element of the whole site.
Personally I wouldn't waste valuable development time by providing a disable note feature. How about simply a ban or ignore user feature? (assuming it doesn't already exist). If artists solicit business, they should be contactable via the service through which they solicited that business. It's crazy to allow people to take money and then have FA erect a brick wall around them.
Probably a lot more suggestions, but that's off the top of my head.
Gah, of course I meant to type a journal page similar to LJ.
"Access to messages, submissions, comments and shouts through sensible sized links that aren't all smaller than my fingertip on a smart phone and not squashed up against normally seldom clicked links (such as control panel, log out!) After all, I bet virtually all users use at least one of those links, squashed away in the very top-right, to launch themselves into other parts of the site. They must be the most used links when first visiting FA, yet they're still the worst thought out usability element of the whole site."
I would much rather see them develop a mobile version of FA. It would be much easier than screwing around with the UI for non-mobile users.
"Personally I wouldn't waste valuable development time by providing a disable note feature. How about simply a ban or ignore user feature? (assuming it doesn't already exist). If artists solicit business, they should be contactable via the service through which they solicited that business. Some people don't like to use the note system because it isn't secure at all. If an admin wanted to do it, they could go in and read all your notes. So if an admin gets "hacked"... well... there goes any privacy. Also: some things are far more manageable via email. There are a ton of things you can do (depending on what email service you use) that you cannot do on FA... AND it's more secure. Hell, given FA's history/shitty coding if someone were minded to try they could probably get access to your notes without admin/account access.
True up to a point about the notes. Every website we use (indeed every service on and off line) is based on some element of trust. I wouldn't expect admins to have easy access to personal notes via the site (if they do, I can't imagine the justification, that's a snoopers charter!) I expect they are stored unencrypted in a database and certain individuals have access to that, but again, we should trust the people who run the site aren't snooping on us, or we probably shouldn't be here at all. And personally, I trust the FA message system more than I trust any email to, say, google. But if you don't trust it, that's fine - just ignore it. Put a note on your profile so say any notes will be ignored. Don't engaged in conversation over it if someone does message you. The choice not use it is already yours.
But my point still stands, if an artists solicits business via FA (especially if it's via the note system!) then it's unreasonable to allow them to shield themselves away later on, while still making use of the site. Imagine if you had a dispute with a seller over Ebay, they decide to not accept messages, and Ebay's response to you is "Oh well, they just don't want to talk to you". You'd be pretty pissed off I bet, both with the seller and for Ebay for effectively siding with them. That's basically what FA seems to be proposing.
Oh gee, look at all this complaining over a free service.
Oh gee, look at all the trolls.
;3~
Over 9000 trolls, desu.
1. a commissions page, a journal page with options for 1-5 lg thumbnails would work or any thing.
2. a folder system for gallery. most art sites have this, DA, Eka's protal, IB, ect
As far as the privacy settings for notes and anti-search, I am very satisfied to hear this.
YES! Finally, I have been waiting for that! :D Me and my boyfriend are worried that one of our family members would accidentally come across to my or his profile one day.
YES! Finally, I have been waiting for that! :D Me and my boyfriend are worried that one of our family members would accidentally come across to my or his profile one day. So, adding that feature, that make me so relieved!
BUT, this is just whenever if ya guys were thinking of other changes.
updates appreciated
Maybe having a different font sizes -as well as different sizes, clicking ctrl+mouse wheel fucks up quality of images, so it's not really that good.
other than that; tag filtering and gallery/favorite folders
Below is a proposal for an alternate appearance (mockups are done in photoshop - images utilize a 4 px curve to the thumbnail, 4px outline around that (I don't recall if you have to specify the border curve size or not..) and a shadow with an 8px spread and distance at a 135 degree angle (so it'd be an 8x8px offset from the top and left, respectively).
To make it more visible, there's a slight change to the gray border, and the shadows are slightly darker than the border to help it stand out just a bit more.
General Audience border: #666666
General Audience shadow: #222222
Mature Audience border: #697CC1
Mature Audience shadow: #030E36
Adult Audience border: #A22121
Adule Audience shadow: #410808
Image found here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56505475/examples.png
As you can see in that image, the borders are large enough to be seen even at smaller sizes, and the shadow makes the colors clash a bit less. The grey border is a tad lighter than before to get the same type of contrast even against the default dark background.
..Not fully sure how well it'll bee against a lighter background though. I suppose the shadows could be altered or even the border colors themselves could be altered to not clash if need be.
OH JESUS CHRIST WHY DIDN'T YOU HAVE THAT BEFORE?
Yeah, I kind of don't like people seeing my fetishes, God damn.
Ideally, it would be better to just have a "Public favorites" and "Private favorites" sort of thing where you can choose what favorites are okay for people to see and which you want to hide.
That would be great, since, personally, I'd rather hide my 18+ favorites, but I still want to promote all the other favorites.
However, I've noticed that ever since the update the resized versions of images won't come up. The kind when you first click on a submission where you can then click on 'Full Size'. All I get are tiny rectangles with a solid color inside. I have to go to the Full Size version to see anything.
And something I just noticed, the coding for the Prev|First|Next hotlinks you can put in the descriptions of sequential submissions seem messed up. They work, but they say odd things or look all symbol-y and hard to read.
my poor eyes. I just got off work so most of that turned into random characters in my head.
regardless, im on Opera. How would I go about doing....whatever it was you said i needed to?
looks like if i want to keep enjoying this site ill have to change browsers -again-. T_T
There better be. Because I don't really like looking at fetish pics on the General section. There should be a Fetish option for every submission so no one who has a certain fetish (feet, vore, etc.) would even claw their eyes out.
Another neat thing to see would be the ability to upload collabs and have it show on both artists pages without both having to upload it manually. I recall Y! Gallery had something like this years and years ago, but I don't know if they're still doing that, or what. They had a great system for groups, too.
really looking forward to that!
Hidden favs might suck a bit, 'cuz if somebody with similar tastes lands on such a faver's page, they won't be able to find and help further promote the good stuff, as quickly. But I'm guessing that's none of my business.
Also, when the system is updated to support thumbnails of multiple sizes, will the ones we already had in place(which got taken away with this update) come back? Or will we have to re-upload them manually? I'm refering to pieces in our gallery where the thumbnail is different from the actual piece, such as a "This contains X!" warning, just for the sake of clarification.
Ability to hide from guests. YES, YES, THANK YOU. This is a big deal for me and I'm sure a lot of others who have a real life that could be seriously injured by the wrong person finding this site.
Ability to hide favorites means that I will START using the favorites system. (I have never used it, in all my years here, because I didn't want favorites showing up on my front page)
Man, this site is still so web 1.0. You're going to have to do more than that. Maybe you'll implement AJAX features three years from now, and finally have a modern website.
All snarkiness aside, you guys are terrible at keeping commitments. If I were you, I'd stop promising anything. Just release it when it's done.
But still, there is absolutely no denying the fact that it took them years to implement it. FA has always dragged their feet when it comes to fixing/implementing features. How long has the commission info page feature been broken now? Probably longer than they took to put in HTTPS.
Also its BUGGING my OCD like HELL the fact that in my gallery all my thumbs are NOT all the same SIZE anymore D:
/CryFest
The new changes look great other than the fact that I'd really love to be able to custom my thumbnails again, out of common courtesy of my customers AND my watchers to BOTH be happy :) Keep up the great work guys!
* - five years from now.
Is this going to be fixed?
Will we still have the ability to make custom thumbnails for our pics?
I say this because all of the pics I use now on this account I make a thumbnail of to give people an idea of what's in the pic itself or what they can expect (and sometimes just to be silly and play around with the idea of using thumbnails as content warnings) and it would be a shame if we couldn't make our own thumbnails anymore as not only would it alert those who view an artist's work of what content's in that pic in case it focuses on something that some people are a lot more mixed on and not sure if they like and it also ruins the element of surprise in what's going on in the pic beyond what content is used. For example, I make a gift-pic for somebody and the thumbnail is very vague in what goes on in the pic besides the fact it involves their character and it involves a few themes and so forth, then they click on that thumbnail and it becomes a lovely surprise to them as they may have a vague idea, but the whole idea of the pic doesn't come through until they go to the pic's page itself. For me to not have a custom thumbnail for that pic in the submissions box and so forth would be akin to giving someone a present for Christmas and not even bothering to wrap it up. I'm sure I'm not alone in missing the idea of custom thumbnails and its a feature that really needs to stay, enlarged thumbnails or otherwise.
Even if the format and size of the banner will be different and even if you're planning to change the times for when a new banner from once a month or once every time a special occasion occurs to the new time pattern to...however you choose, please still have each one still be done by a random artist in our community who's submitted their ideas.
I can understand if in accordance with the new UI that the banner's going to appear a lot different and work in a different way than it used to, but I'm very worried about how they are going to be chosen. I remember Dragoneer said once that all the banners now will be done by Blotch and I think that even if Blotch is good at the work they do, in the long run and on a community standpoint, its a real step backward after we've been having the banners be updated the way they've had for years up to this point. Having banners be done by people in the community who've submitted their ideas and are then picked on the quality of their banner and how well it fits with the month, the season, the very special occasion or so forth gives good artists some non-intrusive exposure and encourages the art side of the site and creativity among the community as a whole. And just having every banner now be done by just *one* user from now on sends the wrong message and despite the complaining that people have had over these banners on this current system, doing it just from one user from now on is arguably even worse because it would be a bit of a kick in the teeth to those willing to spend a lot of time on their ideas and never get them noticed. So even if how often these banners change will be altered and even though the banner will appear in a new way and in size and format may be different to how it is now, please continue to have the banners be the work of various artists each from the community still and not just one user.
Reporting users should be easier to get to and while we're on the subject, disable the feature to use shouts on banned user's pages
The current system of reporting users works but just to get to it is finicky so in whatever way it can be done, it needs to be simplified a little so that it can be easier to use just in case. But also on top of this, I really should also say that those that are banned from FA already for one reason or another, all of their shouts are still enabled and cannot be changed so people can still give out shouts to them. To many banned users, particularly those that have caused "drama" either intentionally or unintentionally and got themselves banned in relation to such, their shout section becomes a forum for ongoing hate and snarky remarks for those that just can't let these things go even if they've already been banned and there's no point in keeping the shout section open if all there'll ever be said by others will be things like that. So make reporting users a little easier to do, but also disabled shouts for those that are already banned as there wouldn't be any point in keeping them enabled in the first place.
Implement the option to disable shouts if someone so chooses to
Self-explanatory, more-or-less. Many people complain about getting generic, simple shouts and how it annoys them. If this option for people to disable shouts in the first place was there, then there'd be less complaining about that! Simple! ;3
If possible, please make the size for pics to "download" the same size, resolution and image format that was natively of that pic in the first place.
The pic size for "Full View" can still be either anything of FA's choosing or be optional to the artist wether a smaller-ish version of the original pic appears as Full View or the original size appears as the "Full View" size for the pic so it can cater to older monitors better as well as the newer monitors for viewing art, but the size for pics to download should always be the same size and resolution that the artists themselves made the pic to be. I draw my pics fairly big in size and resolution since having a MacBook Pro with a 1440 x 900 resolution and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels sensitive over the quality and clearness of their pics after working at them for hours on end and the "download" version of the pic still ends up being a vastly-downsized low-res jpeg image of said pic (which every time I remember this I have to go to the trouble of hosting the pic elsewhere and linking that alternate link on my pic's description for anyone who wants the full-FULL pic, but of course that's just my experience) so as I know this is a stretch to ask considering how much space all our pics even as they are now can really fill up servers, but if it is possible I hope you can make it so the size of pics for download is the same as what the pic originally was in the first place and maintaining both the resolution *and* the image type. Be it jpg, png, bmp, .etc. Not every download image beyond a certain size has to be low-res jpeg.
(This one might just be a tad bit ironic considering what I just asked but, this is asking on behalf of others who feel this way, but it doesn't make up for everyone in the community or on this site, certainly not me, but I'll ask anyway) Please put in the option to disable downloads of pics for those who do not wish others to download their pics off their own accounts if they're sensitive over any possibility for anyone "stealing" their work from doing so.
Self-explanatory. I'm sure there are many people out there who are sensitive over people downloading their pics in case they use that against them somehow, so for those people I thought it would be a good idea to have the option for anyone who needs it to disable downloads of a pic they just uploaded, thus only making it viewable on their FA pages and not available for downloading onto other people's HDDs. Sure there are alternate ways of people to "get" pics like this, but the option to disable downloads for anyone who wishes them to be disabled for their work should at least exist anyhoo as it would make it less easy for others to "steal" them if they intend on doing so.
...and last but certainly not least (at least right now)...
Bring back the option to filter out themes of pics that people very much don't want to see so that they can only browse over the pics that they're into or are fine with seeing
I remember for just a few weeks or so in 2006 (well, from memory 2006), there was a feature where you could go over to a table of theme names through your control panel and if you don't want to see that feature, you tick on the boxes next to each one and save the settings so you can avoid the stuff that you actively, actively don't want to see or disgusts you or etc. No one complained about that feature from what I know and no one was calling for that feature to go, so I'm baffled by the fact that this feature only existed for a few weeks in 2006 and mysteriously vanished without a trace afterwards. Especially baffling since people have been openly VERY huffy every now and then about themes of pics that they wish weren't on the site or those that whenever a pic of that theme comes up, its greeted with open hate from those who just don't like it or understand it. So while FA is going through this whole "new UI" change-up this Spring, I want to make a very hearty suggestion that this feature made a comeback. It harms no one because it only disables the browsing of certain themes depending on just the users themselves using the site and not of the whole website. I can see it really encouraging less hatred and hurt against others who are into different things than those that pick on them for it and above all, for those that use this feature and filter out themes they don't like, it'll make browsing a lot easier and a lot more comfortable to just browse through the home page and looking for something they like above those they don't. So please FA, bring back this feature. Or at least test it out again with the FA community of 2012 to see how we react to it, because this site needs this handy feature more than it ever has from the looks of things.
Okay then, I'm done with my extremely long reply to this journal. There's probably grammar and typos galore in this one reply because I've been typing it out for so long and I don't have enough time to check back, but thank you for offering to take suggestions from us and wanting to make the UI in mind with the community through these suggestions and I hope that, even if none of these features get implemented like I suggest that they should here, they're at least noted and put into consideration. Thank you very, very much!
- Eric B. (aka Jace F.)
And no, this was not at all a TL;DR comment post. In fact, I almost half-expected there to be way more lengthier comments in response to the subject matter within this particular journal post at hand.
Sorry that I had to make such a long comment though, obviously I needed to say a LOT more than I thought I was going to. But it had to be done. Thanks for the kind words anyhoo, just hope they take as much pointers as possible from those commenting on this journal as well as on the forums. :D
I'd like to point out that this would be impossible, no matter how they went about doing it. It would take so much time to code it, and there would still be dozens of ways around it.
Bring back the option to filter out themes of pics that people very much don't want to see so that they can only browse over the pics that they're into or are fine with seeing
This only works when people tag their images correctly. If I could go through all the images on FA, probably a good quarter of them would be "improperly tagged". Unless they added in community tagging (which presents dozens of problems on its own) than this would just be a complete waste of time and resources.
Nope. They will still show up on the front page... sort of. They now show up site wide. There is an announcement box under the ads at the top of the page on every page on the site. So it's not like you can miss it. You're not FORCED to +watch anyone.
Although, it's a big ask, web design is an amazingly time consuming thing. I should know, I'm one myself.
It's good that you're tweaking the site, adding better/more features, and increasing the appeal of the UI.
If there's one thing I want changing, it's the colour scheme - too bland, too flat.
Of course, I am open to improvements and most changes. I'm not one of those Facebookers or YouTubers who has a complaint when the layout suddenly changes. Those people are annoying IMO.
Other good ideas for the site include a search bar for submissions/favorites (DA does this quite well I think) and fixing "Manage Favorites" so you don't end up back on the first page after removing a favorite.
The only thing I've thought is to add a "Post" confirmation message. I've sent a few empty replies and it makes me look stupid, but I laugh it off. I think it would be beneficial. A search bar would be nice, instead of a link to search, this I agree on. But like I said before, the site is really very user friendly.
It's a little tricky to delete one by one, but then you can delete them periodically.
2. Use the middle mouse button to click on the "Remove" button for the favorites you want to remove. (this opens them in a new tab)
3. When you've removed about 20 favorites (or more, if you have a really good connection) right click on the favorites tab and click "Close Other Tabs"
4. Rinse and repeat until all of them are removed.
5. ????
6. Profit.
this has been said many times over but..
folders. please.
Also I would LOVE for a block change.. I know a lot of people are confused as to why someone would want full blocking (no userpage viewing, no faves no +watch etc) but I know a few artists who are PLAGUED by stalkers/art thieves/etc sometimes all rolled into one watcher, and sometimes they have to deal with that person for YEARS AND YEARS due to no full blocking. It'd be even cooler if we could IP block but I think that's probably asking a lot. But I think that the full block could really help some people who are having to deal with less than... stable... watchers and the like. :(
Also the ability to post small images on our pages (things like people have said, to link to other accounts and stuff) would be awesome. Or image journal headers/footers.
But anyways, I am super excited to see the changes. :) Hope to see them all soon!
People who fear an artist will take someones money and then just block them:
The artist can still be reported. It's not like you wouldn't be able to report the artist just because they blocked you. And I am fairly certain that's something that they really couldn't get away with.
Art thieves will block the artists so the artist can't comment/etc: Often times if someone is stealing art, it will be not only the artist but other people as well who will confront the thief. ALSO if there is a "double blocking" thing, then it could make it so that if the thief blocks the artist then they couldn't visit their page anymore. OR the artist could just block the thief and then no problems.
Adding a full block system doesn't magically remove trouble tickets. >___>; Just saying.
It won't really help anyone get away with anything.
1) Allowing dishonest artists who have taken customerβs money to prevent those customers from visiting their page or keeping watch on them. Thereβs nothing to stop scammers from taking customerβs money then blocking them so they canβt see that theyβre taking on more commissions or being active without fulfilling their side of the deal.
2) Allowing art thieves to block the artists they are stealing from (if the original artist canβt see their page it will be less likely they will be caught). And I know they will block anyone else who goes to point out the art theft and make it harder to get evidence against them.
In other words, this is going to make it much better for dishonest people and much harder for the people getting screwed over to get evidence. Most of the entries from ARTISTS BEWARE are from FA and I really donβt think we need to make it easier for the dishonest people. And since users will have the option to hide from guests, people canβt log out and try getting to the page of the person who is screwing them over.
Iβm sorry to the people who may have creepers watching them, but I really think the block feature should stay as it is (preventing any form of communication to prevent grief and harassment) because page-blocking and unwatching when blocked will definitely be abused for the wrong reasons.
Just a thought. Nothing big, but it would take some work out of coding for those who don't know code very well, and less space taken in descriptions. Personally I dont mind putting © in description for the artist, but again, just a minor thought.
who did the banner :v
I honestly do not want to have to look at.
I think when they originally placed it there, it was a "work in progress" (though why they would add the button in and not the functionality is beyond me). The button is also kind of misleading. All it does is hide the titles. To see the description you still need to go to the image page.
I need some troll protection.
Beyond the front page, everything's pretty slick, though.
And please fix custom thumbnails. if you don't at least add a tag filter. because some people are really nice and thumbnail their images so we don't have to see super scat vomit mega party on the front page or in our inbox (on the off chance someone decides to take up a new fetish) Though the tag system would rely on either 1: people typing in correct tags or 2: fetish list being updated, possible adding of the choice to select multiple fetishes, and things could be filtered out that way. really though, the species list got updated, you should really update the fetish one! I'm fairly sure there's a lot missing.
perhaps add a site based filter system, in which, if you block a fetish/keyword, a warning thumbnail pops up saying something like "this image contains blocked keywords, do you still want to view?" blah blah
also, do not ever make it a feature to allow people to block users from viewing their page completely. stupidest idea. it really is. the blocking guests thing is fine, and making people -watch you by blocking them is fine (if it worked)
but if people were allowed to block people from seeing their page, things would get really stupid. you'd get people blocking others for probably no reason, making it so they could never see art by them, or possibly messing with commissioners, so they could skip out on commissions because the commissioner couldnt get in contact with the person. you'd probably also get people blocking people to post shit about them without them seeing.
not a good idea, at all. I can see where some people would think it WOULD be a good idea, but it's really not.
otherwise besides backing up what some others have said here (a lot)
I'm okay with the update. a few things just need to be fixed n such.
However, I would really like to block a user from viewing my gallery since he enjoys harassing me other places than here. And he only made an FA account to harass me. I've blocked him already so he cannot contact me on here, or any of the IM's and services I have provided on my page.
Though, I think block user from posting and block user from viewing art should be separate. I do realize there could possibly be people that will abuse this... and shame on them. But overall, I think it is a good idea.
I am trying to remember to put watermarks on my art so people cannot steal them that easily. Though, I do like dA's watermark system.
Please.
LOL
* - "soon" meaning at least 5 years from now.
Ergo because of this there are no longer any thumbnail warnings telling me, "Look out! BABYFUR SHIT EATING VORE COCK FETISH"
I realize in above comments that you're looking into fixing this, but seriously...
How could you guys NOT see this as being a problem in the first place?
I found it weird that it didn't show my tumbnail, even though I added one. Now everyone saw my Team Magma Cosplay on the frontpage! Not that that that matters.
A chat system would also be great. Live chats with your watchers or leaving offline messages. That would be easier than notes, and quicker.
i think fur affinity should implement the new code that disables the images being saved, downloaded or copyed from here. i've seen pages with this code, and i think that this will be a great implement and will prevent things like this happening.
anyway i was just giving an idea, as everyone is
I've been noting about this for years, and about the only answer I've gotten is that I could request myself banned; but, it's not quite the same as having the option of withdrawing. :/
Honestly, sometimes I wish I could just pay to have it done; banning just isn't quite the same as having the option to withdraw and leave no traces, comments, etc that I even existed.
Is that a strange thing to ask for?
Dragoneer and his silly shenanigans.
So that's the two things I miss about the new layout...
Week has went already since Phase 2 was supposed to released :/
What is that good for!?
I can't even tell how long ago I've updated my favorites because it's not displaying the time ex: a couple minutes ago, hour etc. It really frustrates and confuses me when I'm trying to remember when I added something that was uploaded over a month or more ago instead of the time I collected it.
The usable color options are pretty ugly imo
FA =/= FA's Code
If you don't know the difference between the two, than perhaps it's time you learned.
PS. Not everyone is going to read every single response to this journal. A lot of people are just going to ignore other responses unless someone responds to them directly. So... kindly fuck off. :D
I can't upload things from my phone sadly ;w;
(I'm thinking kinda like the DeviantArt app)
Can we have comment pagination? It took at least 10-15 seconds for this journal to go to the comments when I clicked the (comments) link since there are so many. It makes scrolling to read comments hard and annoying
PHOTO INFORMATION DISPLAY IMPROVEMENT REQUEST:
When I post a photograph, the EXIF data time/date displayed below the photo is the time/date of the last edit rather than the time/date when the photo was taken. This makes good sense for digital art, but results in July nighttime time/dates on snowy photos taken at noon in December.
Both last edit and creation time/date data is in the EXIF portion of JPGs and PNGs. When the submitter classifies their submission as "photography", please have the site upload software select the creation time/date for display rather than the currently displayed last edit time/date.
Thank you very much! I FA!
to be honest, all of these updates are pretty lame to say the least & are not that much improtant to me in my opinion, i'm not going to complain but suggest, so how about reducing the size limit of the pictures? i mean really? only 1280x1280 & 10MB? it's pretty annoying when i have to resize the pictures myself, even if i do, i noticed that the image i submit get their quality ruined by FA sometimes so incase i have to submit a bigger/better quality in another site or something, they need to fix this.
also when uploading a gif avatar it gets pretty annoying when the quality gets ruined, these fixes are not less important than the ones you guys added now, this should have already beeing included in the first place. i would ratherly take these instead of the updates that come just now, why? because it's something that the whole community would use & take advantage of, while not all people going to disable notes, or block their pages etc, i'm actually okay with the update but pretty psised that fA hasn't fixed one of their biggest fault, i would have been happy with this update if they added these besides with them.
take a look for inkbunny, there now you're able to upload picture up to 6000 x 6000 & 30MB of file size, the inkBunny site was made 2 years ago & i'm surprised of how for good they have improved their site so far, i hope the size limit will be better soon, it's such a shame because FA is the only site of the ones i visit that has such a low limit of picture sizes.
the thumbnails system is now dumb, it doesn't warn you if there is a pr0n ahead or whatsoever, also bigger thumbnail = slower scrolling, it was much better when they were small.
i do hope one of the sites admin read this & take it as a note:
in the future, i hope you guys before deciding adding anything that you add a poll or something like that to ask people what they really would love the site to improve on & what features should be added on, i don't see why the thumbnail system gets changed when people has never complained or had problem with them, i'm not saying the site shouldn't add anything besides listening to the community, but it would be better to lsiten to feedbacks suggestion & such.
The site is pretty good, it's the community that made it even better, so i'm actually satisfied with the site in general & do not regret joining it.
Hope to see more improvements in the feature, & not some dumb features like hiding favorites, i mean really, who the hell needs that crap? i know deviantArt has it b i would ratherly get something that i would use very often, seriously.
otherwise, I still love this site, i have met some wonderful & friendly people here <3
stoppedreadingthere.jpg
Seriously though, you people need to stop comparing IB to FA or vice versa.
"so how about reducing the size limit of the pictures?"
I think you mean increasing. Reducing means to make something smaller.
Smartassery aside: I agree. There are a ton of images out there that I would love to see in higher quality.
"also when uploading a gif avatar it gets pretty annoying when the quality gets ruined..."
Ummm... I think you have that one backwards as well. All avatars get converted to GIF format, so anything already in GIF format will not lose quality. That being said I would like the make change the allowed size from 50kb to 100kb. It would open up a lot of doors for people.
woops yeah i got the two words mixed up, & more size is what i wish them to improve on, & bigger file size.
& yup i just noticed that, should have been more careful before posting < w>
Wat.
I'm willing to bet that English is not your first language. :3
& yup exactly, it isn't

Problem solved:
If you realise the drawing you have uploaded have a bad quality/is small, follow these steps:
> Change submission file
> Select the same drawing you already have uploaded.
> F5
Done.
Know what I'd like to see? A revival of the Ferrox project! Seriously. FA's codebase is complete garbage and should be rewritten from the ground up. Chop chop.
It should happen
Frankly some of the features I would like to see I'd be willing to actually pay for. No different then Livejournal. You want features? Pay for em. And I would.
Note if I could edit my post I wouldn't need to respond to myself.
Also i agree with KellizcJtiger, being able to edit posts would be very welcome.
It's been ten days. Has there been a delay?
THIS
Not cool.
As well, I think a 'Nuke' button would be nice to add to other functions. Like 'Nuke' all journals, 'Nuke' all favorites, and 'Nuke' all watchers.
Is this going to be fixed soon?
Everything is working as it should from the beginning.
Have you ever tried cleaning your cookies?
I'm also not sure, but I think before deleted journals were automatically removed from your inbox, but I can see deleted journals again so is this another issue..? >_>;;
So uh, what's going on in here, you guiyz? Let's start a nice conversation that will probably come to a point, climax, and end before phase 2 rolls out.
o3o x3
dat would be sweet
And I just abhor that idea.
I've unfortunately been blocked by a number of people (due to my own mistakes AND their explosive reactions to my personality) but besides that I really do consider some of these people fantastic artists, and just because we don't get along means I have to be punished can't see their works anymore?
FUCK. THAT.
I know, some people can be creepy/stalky. I was gonna say if that MUST happen, add a feature to implement LEVELS of blocking. Level 1 just blocking contact with the user, level 2 disallowing faves, and level 3 making the account hidden from that altogether.
BUT, I'm sure people would just skip the first two levels and place everyone on level 3.
I'm happy with the blocking system the way it is. I'm content with not being able to talk with people who blocked me, but I still love many of their artworks and I still wanna be able to show them that.
You poor, poor deluded soul.
Had they done it properly the first time, I would have agreed with you.
Had they actually delivered when and how they said they would, I would have agreed with you.
But they didn't, so guess what? I don't care! Screwing something up is not an accomplishment. ;)
You want to know what FA's problem is? They don't test it before they release it. Never have, and probably never will. Testing out "new features" on a live site is a terrible idea. That's what Beta/Test/Sandbox sites are for. "OH HAY GUYS WE'RE HOPING TO RELEASE NEW FEATURES SOON, CAN YOU GO TEST THEM OUT FOR US THANKS! *links to beta.furaffinity.net or whatever they hell they want to use*". Is that really so hard to do? Herp.
I'm way behind >_>
Sorting them by artist would be awesome.
Noooooose! XD
*cough* Also I totally forgot to tell you I snuck you in:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7014151/
Well a plush anyways. ;)
that feature can save a lot of artist from destroying there accounts due to job related performance. xD
SO HURRY IT UP! >:U// CHOP CHOP!
I hope you do not think that wrong of me. I am far from "Godless."
I do not disrespect your right to privatizing your page. I simply wish others would realize there are good people just looking at art...and for somewhere to belong.
Thank you.
so stop the "Politeness" \ =3=/ i hate it when people reply something like this.
no offense ;V
I have two pictures uploaded. On my phone, (Android) only one shows in thumbnail form. Both show in preview and full to me, but not to desktop users, who are informing me "image not found."
I have tried reuploading, checking and unchecking the "create thumbnail from this image" box. I cannot fix this myself.
Would you please help me? One picture was favorited by friends prior to my newest upload, and I don't want them thinking it removed.
I have no computer other than this phone. If you have an Android app sometime, I have GREAT interest if it fixes this!
Thank you again! Have a good day! :)
I know Nabyn recently put in a guest art section, I never used it and have no reason to use it as of right now. But why not do something like that? Even better, when someone post to the guest art area of their gallery it automatically disables the favorites. I know this was suggested over and over again by a lot of users. Maybe even an options of disabling the comments too. It could be made a deal that people that are uploading art that isn't there art need to go in there. I know there will be people against it but eh its worth a shot. Beside I like the thought of having guest art on my page in its own area if I decide to upload some. So I don't have to make a whole new account for it.
And I have to echo making blocks stronger, not so much you can't see the page but disallowing favorites and comments (I don't know if they can comment or not.) Some people 'troll' by faving a bunch of things and then taking them off and doing this over and over again. Its not like a huge ordeal but just gets tiring after awhile.
Just my two cents.
I don't see no .jpg there. :V
PS. I was being sarcastic.
Welcome to Furaffinity where we are still in the 90's. We convert images to jpeg for older browser support, despite the fact that only about 0.1% of the population uses a browser that doesn't support PNG images at all. This is because of the "legacy of Jehryn/Alkora" and his shitty coding... also the fact that we are far too lazy to recode the entire back-end of the site despite the fact that it is complete shit.
this groups sound rude and not friendly for any fan of mlp and has bad name for furaffinity and allot of slander
Disclaimer: I take no responsibility for what happens.
Disliking MLP = hate crime. Whelp I'm done.
furponysecution!Anyway freedom of speech goes both ways there buddy so if you want to run around saying how great your favorite show is then other people get to say how much they hate it. So long as they are not going out of their way to attack you personally, you should have no problems. Man freedom to only say good things about the things you like and everything else is a hate crime, that sounds pretty ignorant to me.
Oh and hate art, is real art so get over it.
If you don't want guests to view something specific, just mark it as mature or adult. BAM.
On the other side of the internet there's a person and in this case they make the site go. People generally respond to positive, respectful, and constructive feedback. I've never had a problem with staff and that's probably a result of interacting in a polite and helpful manner.
The only admin that I know of who would bitch about that is CerberusNL (inb4 I get banned for "calling him out"). That guy has to loosen some of those screws, so to speak. You can only get in trouble for under rating your submissions, not over rating them.
I'm glad you responded so quickly to a comment!
Actually, there you go. Let me hide scraps from guests.
Also, the fact that in your new submissions inbox, the little checkbox along with the name of the artist, are now above the thumbnail is rather, if not very, confusing. I hope it won't be permanent.
1. Have it where we can disable page shouts.
2. When we block someone, have it where they can't fave art of ours.
3. Have it where we can deactiavte out account, like what they have on DeviantART.
Just some suggestions
Also, they may tell their friends about your art as well, giving you more people that are viewing and "favorite-ing", who may not (or unfortunately, may) be an asshole like the original guy you blocked!
OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, YES, THIS.
I don't want someone I'm not on speaking terms to be able to have somethhing of mine in their favorites list.
I actually scrolled down to this point in the thread to see if anyone else had made this suggestion yet.
I have at times even gone as far as to put a specific mention in some descriptions asking people that I've blocked not to fave anything I've commissioned or posted, but obviously that does not get followed.
Think of it as your feet being kissed.
Or if you're the non-confrontational "I'm always right" kind that blocks people because they have a different opinion or aren't kissing your ass mindlessly...then that's another story.
When you block someone pay them no mind. They're gone. Don't concern yourself with them any more and leave it at that.

Coming Later This Week
"* Hide From Guests - Users can now hide their accounts from guests or random Googlers.
Are we allowed to do this yet? I couldn't find it ANYWHERE on my account/site settings
First, I am thankful for all the new updates that FA is promising us, even though I've never posted a picture here. I oddly got into FA because people publicly post their account on their dA page, but most of which I had to dig into Google to find them. And not allowing guests to view your page seems restricting to potential artists, watchers, and people that will commission. So people who want to block guests, consider this thought please?
Next, can we PLEASE add a comment button on top? I am on an iPhone, and scrolling to the bottom is time consuming when 1200+ comments are loading and growing in the way!
And, can we have an option to receive once daily emails updating us of the art, journal, and comments that's been posted by the artists? Like a reminder, but not as annoying as an email for each... individual picture... and comment... and journal post... And we can customize the "FA Daily Mail" to show what we want to see. If this exists, I must of missed it somewhere.
Lastly, customize the importance of the journals. Like colored letters in the messages section. If it's "Optional Attention" (random things, short messages, etc) : green letters, "Request Attention" (life updates, help messages, job update, commissions, etc) : Yellow, and "Requires Attention" (family or personal deaths, life changing situations, clearing gallery, leaving or hiatus from FA, opening a business, needing emergency commissions for money, etc) : red. That way I don't miss which messages that should grab my attention. This can also combine with my previous request.
"* Hide From Guests - Users can now hide their accounts from guests or random Googlers."
I'm sick of family saying something i post on here! IM married and i dont need my mother telling me stuff that doesnt concern her. I cannot wait to hide my profile from outside viewers -_-
1. Hide from guests. That would be a problem if non-furries posting illegal sexual activity like child porn and bestiality and IRL rape, and cops hafta make an account to see evidence, and that would be a bad idea.
2. Hide faves. Read #1.
Things I wish you guys would implement:
1. Prevent blocked users from faving and watching. deviantART has this feature. Why can't you guys?
2. Automatically put thumbnail warnings based on tags. I'm so sick of looking at thumbnails with fetish-content (vore, chub, diaper, pissing and shitting that I would wish for eyebleach. Sure it's disrespectful for those who enjoy, but I doubt anyone but me actual are into any of these things. If you guys don't want it, at least make an option on the control panel.
