I'm a huge fan of all three of them, Eccleston especially brought a lot of fire to the Doctor's personality and then Tenant was just amazing as the Doctor.
Ah, after actually watching the video I can see that he maybe kinda sorta hated it a little bit! Ah well, I think it still looks cool so I'm gonna check it out. For me, games don't really have to be about a hardcore challenge. They've just got to be interesting and fun interactive experiences, and I'm okay with that. Maybe Fez doesn't cater to the hardcore crowd, I don't think it has to.
He does make some interesting points that made me look at the gaming industry as a whole in a slightly different light, so there's that.
Oh I could definitely tell that it was at least half joke/satire/tongue-in-cheek type humor, but I certainly think he had an underlying message in there that he believes in somewhat. I mean I don't know, this is the first of his videos I've seen and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I think he's totally serious when he gives his opinion on retro style indie games. And if he is, I don't necessarily agree with him, but I can kind of sympathize with where he's coming from. But I like my pretty, unchallenging "art games" damnit! :P
Um, the guy was being serious and I agree. Having played the game, this is a really boring, easy game. It's pretentious bullshit. That's the problem with SO many indie games coming out, a lot of them are riding the 'indie games as art' wave. I agree with this guy. You don't need to put up with craptastic 'artsy' indie games just to get away from the mainstream.
Some people like those games, and aren't just playing them to "get away from the mainstream." Why are you being so presumptuous? "Oh these people only like these game because they're drinking the indie art game kool-aid, they're not *real* hardcore gamers like me!" Well, good for you, dude. Play whatever 'hardcore' games you want, but I don't see the need to look down on people who like simple, pretty and fun games like Fez or Journey or whatever. I play my share of 'mainstream' games, too. I don't see why I can't like both.
Im not coming down on you for liking it. Im commenting on my perception of the motivations behind the creation of the game. If you like it, more power to you. I like casual games too. More so than hard core. I'd probably enjoy Fez, that doesn't mean i can't be critical of it. I think it could have been a lot better, that's all, and I think there's a lot of pretentiousness masquerading as game development. Im not saying that people who are into it are drinking the indie kool aid. IF they enjoy it they enjoy it and just because someones motivations might be pretentious doesnt mean the people enjoying it are pretentious. tl;dr My being critical of the game =/= being critical of you, so don't take it so personally. I'm just some dude on the internet who pretends to be a kangaroo. i'm pretty pretentious and probably a hypocrite lol so what do I know, right?
Phil Fish is definitely a pretentious, arrogant douchebag, but I don't think that necessarily projects onto the game and it certainly isn't representative of most humble and earnest indie developers. I'm tired of this persistent attitude I've been seeing in the gaming community that any game that tries to be a little different or is a little too easy is "pretentious." That's got to be the most overused/misused word on gaming forums. Only in gaming would deviating from the mainstream be considered a bad thing.
Are there a lot of indie platformers? Hell yeah. But just because you can lump them together into one extremely broad category doesn't mean they're all the same. I'd say that the difference between Braid, Limbo and Fez is greater than the difference between similar games in other genres. I don't play them to escape the mainstream, I play them because they're neat.
I don't mind valid criticisms of games at all, and I actually thought this "ROCKCOCK64" guy made a few good points. But it's clear that he only enjoys a very specific type of game, and I don't see why he has to piss all over the indie community as a whole because he found a couple games he didn't like.
Please understand. I DO feel the same way you do and I don't agree with most of what the guy had to say, and I rarely use the word 'pretentious' because I feel using it makes one kinda a bit pretentious lol but after playing Fez...I can't help but call it as I see it, especially after everything Fez's creator has said and done-at least in the public arena.
Are there a lot of pretentious people out there? Sure. I don't mean to imply every indie designer is pretentious. I know they're not all like that and i'm not trying to lump them together.
eh...now I just feel..eh kinda like i went a bit too far and have come off like a douche. I'm sorry man. You're right. This guy is definitely equating the whole bunch with one apple.
Dude, coming up with some of those mind boggling riddles in the game – which, weirdly enough, the reviewer didn't even mention – takes way more time and effort than slapping some mobs in the game.
That's okay, what I'm really waiting for is the Kickstarter backlash that you know is coming someday when it turns out the game you backed sucks balls.
Pretty early on as far as I'm aware. They are more abstract than I was originally expecting, but they're still interesting. First one I got to see was a puzzle with a observatory, which is what reminded me of Myst (that and the fact that you have to take notes for some of the puzzles).
Is this a satirical review? Like, as in, is it poking fun at how bad most reviews are now by being obviously bad? He flat out lies in parts of this video. That isn't all the gameplay, most of the game play is in Myst-like puzzles. It's certainly not the type of game for everyone, but it is challenging and entertaining for people that like those types of games.
Well, I tend to agree with some of his points, but I don't like how he makes them.
Also, insulting Disasterpeace is blasphemy. That man is chiptune GOD. Though it is sad to hear he didn't do many actual songs for the game, what I've heard of his work on Fez so far was great.

Also bonus points for him using a Gunstar Heros outro.

You know this'll be good.
YER MAMA'S A SNOWBLOWER
I would check it out, but I don't want to support someone who acts the way the reviewer describes.
I GUESS AT LEAST.
(stating the obvious)
I hope it comes out for Steam eventually. I hate having to set up my x360 these days, but I might just use up the last of my points on this one.
