I thought that would get your attention.
Anyway, I've decided to conduct a survey. Please answer the following questions:
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
If so, why?
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Or more?
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
And dare I ask why?

I do not care for any adult material beyond my personal, quite limited scope, and am only still a part of this fandom because of an unhealthy addiction or insanity of mine. I am in love with a fictional character, and am not at all willing to have it cured. Guess my focus here.
Why? Because, if one really applied themselves. They could find plenty of challenges to draw.
To me, that's the simpliest truth.
I would still enjoy the genre if there was less sex.
The sex scenes I'd enjoy are the romantic and foreplay ones.
Profitable? Very.
And I happen to enjoy it. ^^ As long as it's not illegal or promoting anything dangerous (bestiality or child pornography) I see nothing wrong with it.
So no, one cannot generally say that it's the same. It may of course be a substitute for some, though I don't really know how. What's the appeal in animals that's also present in furry characters? Just the fur? The animal face or (sometimes) dick?
It's the exact same logic that idiots use to try and ban violent video games, under the logic that people who like to play a game about shooting are the exact same as the kind of people who'd go on violent shooting rampages in real life. As though everyone who's into them is so deep in a fantasy world that they can't tell the difference between the two scenarios.
You seem to be so ignorant and so deep in denial about this that you will attack anyone who brings up the question!
You can reply to this if you want but I won't. I have nothing more to say to someone who doesn't know me but calls me ignorant and in denial.
No.
If so, why?
Because we have fun more often and enjoy playing about a lot too.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
May be, I am easy on this subject.
Or more?
We have enough already.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Teasing ones that show nothing but make you think you see more
And dare I ask why?
Because I like to be teased more than shown the whole thing, think Vita Von Tease and Gypsy Rose Lee.
Necessary is such a strong word. I find it more a widening of the potential types of art out there. Though eroticism within any form of art is nothing new, they did it way back when, so I don't see an issue with just keeping on doing it.
Would I be less interested if there was none?
Honestly, yes I would. Since I find furry/fantasy erotic art far more enticing and interesting than good old human porn/art/hentai.
More or less sex?
It's always about finding the right balance, too much of any one thing makes it stale for me. Too little and you end up craving it like a wild dog.
Imagery wise, I'm pretty easy going. Granted I do have my fav's like the transformation based pictures. Basically for me as a rule with certain subjects I'm willing to lower my standard of quality. With other genres and picture types i won't enjoy it unless the quality is damn good. Granted that says more about me than others :P
Images can be visually appealing to look at, or simply so good they take your breath away. Others inspire emotions and sensations, as well as plainly inspire you, to be used at a later point in time for activities more suiting to them.
And finally I have a soft spot for female dragon characters <3
If so, why?
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? YES
Or more?
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
And dare I ask why? Because to me it cheapens the good art that is done by adding sex into it! You can do erotic art and that is fine but so many here seem to do sex for sex sake and NOT because it makes a good picture. I am here as an Artist, NOT to get my ocks off or find free porn! (or povide free porn for others)
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
Necessary? No, I like clean and dirty art equally and each has its place in my opinion.
If so, why?
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
As an artist it is your prerogative to draw what you want. If there was less images being put out there, my inner pervert would want put the impetus on me to commission more porn to pick up the slack but there are always places to go for sexually explicit material for better or worse.
Or more?
I like both this is true, more would mean I would only commission what I really want to see or make it that much more personal. And I would be looking to see what there was before I approached an given artists for sexually oriented materials.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
This can be something of a loaded question because it all depends on my mood. There are times I am looking for kink more than anything else and other times I am looking for sensuality as well as pure carnality. The main theme I pursue in what I look for in terms of porn is heterosexuality, copulation between a male and a female. I like seeing this done on the beach, in the bedroom, in the dungeon and in the kitchen among other places.
And dare I ask why?
In some cases even I don't know why I prefer a given presentation of carnality other than the understanding that it evokes passionate feelings in one form or another. What I like and what I want at a given moment can be completely random. There is often as much whimsy in my own head when I commission anything, clean or dirty as what I am paying to be created.
I despise a quickie. There are authors here like CaptainGerBear who give a good meal without showing the meat, and left you satisfied, no matter the orientation or gender. THAT is the deed I would like depicted, not the exchange of fluids, but the feeling, the rage, the contentment, and yes, maybe the guilt.
Perhaps.
If so, why?:
Like you said, It gets more people's attention. Plus some good art.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex or more?:
Perhaps a bit more interaction would be nice.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?:
I personally enjoy either lesbian images, or anything that involves either female butt-shots or kissing.
And dare I ask why?:
I'm a man aren't I? A stupid creature like myself can't get it out of my mind. The kissing thing though is kinda a personal thing that gets me off.
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
no
If so, why?
there are many other great art forms than just a couple doing the naked tango.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Less yes, it would bring much needed attention to many other forms of art, not just the pictures but also to the music, stories, and poetry that goes unseen. Personaly i sometimes feel like a lot of clean artists get "drowned out"
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
The more intimate art pieces in which genitalia are not seen only just the bodies embracing each other or anything similarly romantic.
And dare I ask why?
I find romance more attractive than just the casual sex scene. Intimacy and love to me is far better than straight up lust.
2: Oh and also its a mark that we cannot deny the existence of nipples and genitalia.
3: I would hate it if there was less sex. And if there was no sex, I'd commit a suicide.
4: More.... thats better.
5: Almost any, except ones involving sexual brutality(Blood) poo, pee and vomit.
6: I am less picky.
Anyway, I've decided to conduct a survey. Please answer the following questions:
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
Naw, but it can be fun, like any other adult art.
If so, why?
hey, naughtyness can be fun. but generally I prefer non adult and adult things seperate.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Or more?
I think a mix is needed. yeah, the porn will get more attention, but such is life.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? And dare I ask why?
ALL THE IMAGES! er, ahem, it depends, my fave is playful romance though ^^
No, I don't. It is not a necessary for this Genre
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Meh! six in one, half dozen of the other.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Romantic settings, impreg or preg.
And dare I ask why?
I like the sweet tender moments of passion shared between a couple.
I'm okay with the current level; when I feel like looking at it, it's there; when I don't, I don't.
I like a variety of things, from vanilla to less so. *shrug* I'm wishy-washy.
No I don't, but that's just...like...my opinion, man. I will say that my favorite artist in the fandom does maybe one erotic piece for every five clean ones she does....and I love em all.
If so, why?
Because the cool thing about this genre is the sheer fantasy of it. You can literally do anything within this genre and it will make as much sense as the next piece of art. Why focus on something you can already get in real lif....oh...wait.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Eh...I generally just overlook it anyways. If a picture appeals to my personal appetite, I will save it, but I don't mindlessly gobble it up.
Or more?
See above answer, though I would probably leave if it was entirely sex-based.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Hoo boy. Uh....wow....it is really a piece by piece basis, to be honest. What turns me on about one piece my ruin another for me. It is weird.
And dare I ask why?
No clue.
And based on some of the trash Japanese-only video games I've seen clips of, we should be damned lucky we only have to deal with a little explicit sexual undertones. ^^
Typically, I've only comissioned G-rated art work. Only time it's been suggestive or a nude has been at the artist's interpretation (only given nude refs) or insistence (tits like that shouldn't be unbound!).
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
I think it wasn't originally necessary, but now its become expected if asked for.
If so, why?
Because like any developed genre, there are elements within it that cater to all desires. Look at Anime. How many sub genres revolve around soft core, hard core, tentacles etc.. Would it not be anime if those went away? No. But many people are into anime because of those sub categories, hell COMPANIES are formed around them.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Indifferent? I think that the topic while no one likes to admit it, is one reason the fandom has grown exponentially.
Or more?
Is that even possible? o.O I can only imagine something like the Adult Video Awards Ceremonies.
And this year for the best draw blow job is....
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Mystical, fantastical, dark, forbidden.
And dare I ask why?
Good sex is about the build up, the tension, the tease. The chase not the kill. But you can only chase so long before you tire out and starve to death.
I like hyper stuff. No idea why.
Personally I like your style of drawing and if I don't like a specific drawing there will always be those who will like it. And as long as you are happy with the end result who am I to criticize it? Unless you ask for constructive criticism to help you grow as an artist.
But a thought I felt I had to share on re-reading this:
- Why does furry have such a call for porn images (as you note above)
I think it's because in this fandom, unlike in others, there's far more investment in 'personal fursonas' and the ability to realize one's self as another being, one that's desirable and attractive.
To support that - minor but I feel, telling evidence: my main character is a centaur. When the other 'taurs and other furs saw that his face and his human half was most certainly NOT real life me, they almost always respond the same way: with surprise, like I broke an unwritten rule. "But, he's YOU. He's supposed to LOOK like you. That's how it's done."
In my humble opinion, and 10 years of casual observation, I think there's really a feel that in this fandom, like no other, there's more wish fulfillment going on in projection of one's self into their character and inevitably, a lot of that will involve being beautiful, being alluring, and being in sexual situations to provide that self esteem that's sought by having such a character in the first place.
I saw the same thing in D&D games, and Champions games and such but furry seems to turn it up about 5 notches. I see people in superhero fandoms and OC characters abound in them, but I never see the same level of the character being a wish-fulfillment version of the creator/player, as I do around here.
And in fact, I remember back when I did run D&D, Champions (superheros) and Traveller (scifi future) games, 'let's make our characters as RL versions of ourselves' was considered a weird, strange, don't-do-it idea. Seeing how in Furry there's so much more of this thing where the character is an idealized version of yourself was a very odd novelty to me, in that all my previous experience such an idea was considered odd by all the other nerds I knew....
Why? Sex is a pretty basic part of human nature, and an awful lot of human activity centers on it directly or indirectly. Trying to deny that . . . well, that’s what the religious right tries to do, and it just doesn’t work any better than Prohibition did.
Would I personally prefer less of it? No, not really. If I don’t like it, I don’t have to look at it. On the other hand, the concern about reputation is valid, though I would argue that American society in particular is way, way too bluenosed about sex. (The counterargument there is that no matter how lamentable that bluenosed attitude may be, it does exist and must be taken into account.)
More? No, not really. There’s enough of it out there already; we hardly need more—or to be more precise a greater proportion of output. After all, if there’s more of it than I possibly could consume, that’s the very definition of “enough”, nicht war? The flip side of sex being a healthy part of the human condition is that it’s not the only thing.
What images do I enjoy and why? Liveliness, gusto, enjoyment, a sense that the participants are people and not just bodies, all of that is more important than specific sexual acts or technical perfection of artistic execution. I do have my limits, though, which tend to revolve around basic human taboos rather than any learned societal ones.
Not for the genre per se, since a lot of the work is non-sexual, but it is vitally portant for the artists.
If so, why?
Because a large portion of the paid art, comics and stories are adult in nature. Without that there'd be a lot of artists with no business.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I'm indifferent. I just ignore the stuff I'm not interested in.
Or more?
Once again, don't care.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
I'll plead the 5th on this one, for sure.
And dare I ask why?
My old therapist might have some ideas, but I don't have a clue. The wiring for sexuality takes place pretty early, so I doubt most people could say why they like acts X, Y and Z but not acts G, H and I, no more than we can remember learning to walk or talk.
No. I see no reason why animal-people necessarily have to be getting it on. There are many, many things they could be doing that are just as interesting, possibly even more interesting. I do think that many people treat furry fandom as a vehicle to get their rocks off, but then, my memories of young adulthood were largely that the entire world was repurposed as a vehicle for getting-rocks-off. I suspect it's a youth thing, the one-track mind full of fizzy hormones.
If so, why?
I think that young people are horny, furry fandom is full of young people, and they are horny young people. I don't think being a horny young person is necessarily good or bad in itself, just comes with a set of largely genital-driven priorities.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
It wouldn't bother me if there was less sex. It would bother me if there was an attitude that sexual themes in anthropomorphic works were unwelcome, though. I don't like censorship of artistic expression. I don't like artistic works just because they're sexually expressive, but then, I don't like 'em just because they aren't, either.
Or more?
Ma'am, if anyone could possibly distill down more raw essence-of-anthropomorphic-sex and add it successfully to the supersaturated solution that is the current climate of sexual themes in anthropomorphic art, it'd be you. (Or perhaps Phil Foglio.) I think what I'd enjoy, though, wouldn't be "more sex," but rather, more *you*, more of your vision, your work, your voice as creator. If that meant more sex, I'd be fine with it...and if it didn't, I'd be fine with it, too.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Emotion, story, feeling. Eyes, smiles, body posture. Intimacy. Evocative intimacy.
And dare I ask why?
Because having been a young man once, and ground myself raw against every willing stranger who shared a bed with me, I find it was the moments our hearts accidentally brushed, our eyes met, a bit of honne slipped out from under tatamae, that I remember, and value. I know what body parts look like. I know pretty much every way they can be combined for convenient friction. (Feel free to prove me wrong, of course.) I've long since realized that there isn't a Golden Vagina out there that's significantly different than any other. What there is, frankly, is the interpersonal dropping of barriers, the connection, the intimacy. I'm old, even if my years don't show the mileage on the odometer. It's nice to remember what 'new' feels like again...and to remember how wonderful 'old' does, too.
Some people have laughed at me for admitting that my Great Xanadu Fantasy ™ was to play a single game of Go with Lady Firelake. I assert that what I'd learn about her from that game, and what I'd likely reveal about myself without realizing, would be more intimate an exchange than anything learned from watching that admittedly very entertaining tickle match between she and Octavius you drew a while back. I engage in moments of intimacy with everyone I meet, and have learned, over the years, to appreciate them and recognize them as special and delightful. Sex is just one language; my best friend and I are more intimate than I ever was with my first wife, but I don't plan to jump his bones anytime soon.
And so, I find myself of an interesting disposition with regard to furry fandom and sex. On the one hand, sex itself isn't a selling point for me...but on the other, it doesn't bother me, and I don't feel the need to avoid it or put it down. I'm interested in what a piece of art has to say, and I'm perfectly comfortable with it saying so with sexual themes...or with it saying so without them. The question is more one of "Is sex the right medium for this idea?" just as one might ask "Is anthropomorphism the right medium for this idea?" or "Are watercolors the right medium for this idea?"
My two bits, anyway.
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
No.
If so, why?
Good art is good art. I have exactly two furry pieces on my wall. One is sliding towards R the other a clear G. OK one can argue if the mating Centaurs are furry or not. That is in my bedroom.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I like the sex. I enjoy the images. I also like the no sex.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Pretty girls in few clothes mostly. Actual sex less so.(Sex is the worlds worse spectator sport) Some nude males if the subject is appealing. (Why always the erection, and the circumscribed Human penis at that?) Male gay is not appealing. Disturbing is not appealing. I skipped the kelpie picture. I don't like the idea of drowning.
And dare I ask why?
I'm a straight male, what is not to like about scantly clad females?
Nope, not really!
If so, why?
I don't think that sex is the focus of the fandom. It's more the characters and the personality of said characters. A lot of people do get sexual material, but they also enjoy just seeing art of their creations as well, even if it is clean. Otherwise no one would get clean commissions!
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Yes! Then I could take my adult filter off and see all the works people churn out. :P I just can't stand all the porn in my inbox.
Or more?
No thanks!
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
I don't like sex, but I do enjoy a good artistic nude. :)
And dare I ask why?
I think people, even imaginary animal people, are beautiful without the help of silly clothing. It seems more personal to me, I guess. Nothing sexual about it really.
Sadly I think sex is necessary to generate income if you're an artist. It just feels kind of forced but that's what people want.
I'm not going to be a hypocrite, I do like the occational graphic depiction or erotic image(done some myself), but all too many artists have gone to the easy market of being simply pron-mills (almost fell into that trap too) and it doesn't reflect well on the creators or their fans to be so one-note. (as an art snob, I won't go on about badly done pron)
I'd like to see more breadth and depth in the genre, especially as there are some real talents out there, and would hope that the fandom would support things other than cartoon bootie.
More directly answering the questions, what do I like? Cute, even very cartoony designs, and freindly/romantic/fun activity, from the most modest to even rather explicite scenes. And Why? RL pron is all too available and gets down right sad and monotonous after a while.
The simple answer and correlating directly to your question: No.
If so, why?
Complex answer. I think humanity should grow up and think about what is really important. Pardon me, but compared to life and death, the future of humjanity and the state of our planet, the constant bickering over sex and sexual orientation is simply idiotic. So, a bit more erotic (not porn) stuff in any genre would be positive. In my opinion.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Not much of a difference to me.
Or more?
See above
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
*Sigh*
I could do with less internal shots.
I like it when a picture(s) tell a story.
Some background would be nice.
Well... Phil Foglios 'Xxxenophile' was the most fun I had reading and looking at.
Anbessa above had a few good points as well.
And dare I ask why?
I'm a bit of a romantic and prefer a story and erotica over porn.

I started this survey as a means of finding out why this furry thing of ours has so much sexual strum unt strom associated with it. I don't know if I'll get an answer, but the comments make interesting reading.
Another roman from that time already stated that 'there is nothing new under the sun'.
No, I wouldn't say it was necessary. But then, ice cream isn't necessary either. But it exists because people like it, and want it.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Or more?
I have to admit, I'm somewhat saddened that things like ALBEDO, XANADU, and CRITTERS seem to have mostly been cast aside in favor of the printed equivalent of porno videos, or even worse - daytime television.
One of the great things about the original XANADU series was that it had a complete story. Beginning, Middle, End. it went somewhere.
It wasn't just Character A meets Character B in Setting C, and uses positions D, E, and F until they run out of pages.
See, I like story. I like characters. And, I like to see a writer doing something clever with both.
I don't really blame the porn though, or the people putting it out. Porn by numbers is easy to make, and easy to sell. So, when the same effort that it would take to plot out a four-issue epic can instead be used to pump out twenty issues of "more of the same" and thereby rake in a much larger profit, you'll find more people taking the easy road. It's more money, for less work.
As I noted here, many years ago:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/236405/
It's "The age old conflict: fine art -vs- stuff that sells"
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? And dare I ask why?
Anything where everyone involved is having a good time. Nothing grody, noting painful.
Just good, clean sex.
And thank you for them kind woids about Xanadu.
I have to admit, I'm somewhat saddened that things like ALBEDO, XANADU, and CRITTERS seem to have mostly been cast aside in favor of the printed equivalent of porno videos, or even worse - daytime television. "
I feel somewhat the same way, except that instead of daytime TV I felt that they got swept aside by poorly-made superhero comics and reality television. Can undtersand the fustration of daytime TV, though. Not much to watch ther in my opinion.
I must say furry porn is a part of the fun.
2) Honestly, I don't think I'd still be in the furry thing without the porn, or way less. I'd still follow some talented clean artists, though. But probably less artists.
More sex? Wait, quite a big part of FA is furry pr0nz already.
3) Depends. I like when there's tease, sensuality... and I like also when all the human taboo's and norms are removed. My characters lean more toward the animalistic side, without having characters which are necessarily feral.
(BTW, beside the things in this very gallery, I have clean fantasy art, but even there, my characters are quite animalistic.)
2. People will create sexual images anyway.
3. It does not matter to me if the amount of sexual imagery increases or decreases.
4. People who insist that sex is what furry is about, or who insist the sexual images must go completely, are both a pain in the ass I could do without.
5. fA comes with filters. Outside of FA you still have a choice in what you view. Decide for yourself.
6. Want a used soapbox?
Very straight-forward and succinct. Thanks!
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
Necessary for it to exist at all? No. Disney became rich with freaky talking animals without having them fuck, too.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
No, not especially. If I don't feel like porn, but still want to enjoy furry content, that's still an easy thing to do; I don't need to be bothered by the sexual content.
Technically I would enjoy the furry genre less (or rather, less often) if there was no sexual content anymore that I enjoy.
Or more?
I don't care, as long as that wouldn't mean other aspects became basically nonexistent.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? / And dare I ask why?
Pretty images about the things I personally enjoy (anal sex/play, rough sloppy sex that still looks like fun for everyone, very explicit content, preferably m/f or m/m; or (cuddly,) emotionally loaded scenes).
The prettiness is my main reason to chose furry porn over real porn or hentai, for me it's much easier to find pretty furry porn than any other.
There are many talented furry (porn) artists, I guess because human-like animals or fantasy creatures have always been a popular subject for drawings and stories.
And I guess because the "organized" furry fandom is not that huge (in contrast to other porn) those artists easy to find.
As far as my preference - glamor art and pin ups; couples, in the midst of sexual act, I like those works that show it as passionate and intense; and a little bondage now and then is nice. Oh, and oddly enough I do like artwork that involves succubi and incubi and their nature, but I suppose that's obvious.
I'm not surprised that you're confused.
In the simplest terms, the old definition still applies. A furry character is a character who is basically human, but who has secondary animal characteristics, such as body-fur, animal markings and a tail
Q:Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
A:Is it necessary for non-furry art? I part from the idea that if an artist needs funding for his works and the demand asks for sex, then do it for as long as you need. It souns degrading but I do find erotic art very appreciatale, in a different way.
Q:If so, why?
A:As I said, if is really needed then don't shy away from it.
Q:Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
A:I don't mind it as much, as long as the sex is a natural part of the story OR the story is meant to explicitly lead into sex, I do find that the build up to the climax is important so I tend to avoid sex when it is simply mant to be sex and done.
Q:Or more?
A:As I said, if the setting is well enstablished I will enjoy it.
Q:And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
A:I myself find enjoyment in everything that is clearly not harmful for all parts involved on the act, that's why I avoid seeing gore and the more grievous fetishes as offensive.
Q:And dare I ask why?
A:Even when the fetish does not appeal to my personal tastes, I tend to find enjoyment in the story or art itself. I am no art critique or anything of the sort but I fancy myself as an ecletic and open-minded guy who will not shy away from the unknown without having enough understanding as to why I should shy away from it.
Hope those answers help your survey Vicky.
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
Necessary, I dunno. But there are a lotta adults around, so it's kinda inevitable.
If so, why?
See above.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Me, no. I like porn.
Or more?
More porn is okay with me.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
M/F, F/F, I like a wide variety of those.
And dare I ask why?
Because I like looking at nekkid ladies, I guess.
Honestly, I don't fault people who draw it because there's obviously demand for it. Boy, is there ever demand! I just wish things were different because the focus has shifted from anthropomorphics as parable to very heavily emphasizing erotic fantasy, most of it personal. I think this is why art prints really don't sell for anyone anymore and everyone wants custom art; everyone is a fan of their own character (or friends' characters) and so only wants custom art drawn of themselves or of people they know. In a somewhat similar discussion recently, someone else posted the following:
"I observed a long time ago that Furry turned away from being fans of Furry art and turned into fans of furry fans. The art was there to support their 'Personal Furry' fantasies. Everyone has their own Original Character patched together of bits and pieces that supposedly represent themselves - how that results in a neon green and lavender Snake-taur with three prehensile dicks is beyond the realm of modern psychiatry...."
I do not have a problem with the porn, but it has become so prevalent (along with diverse and often absurd fetishes) that it has crowded out a great deal of more serious storytelling and often gives the genre a very unsavory feel (though this is not new, either). More balance would make me happy.
I think of it like a buffet - I'm not saying to remove from the table the items that I don't like, but a few more items that I (and others) would like better would certainly be healthier and would hurt no one. The prevalence of porn scares people away, so there is not a balanced population of consumers asking for a variety of content. The huge gay influx around 2000 - 2001 also tilted the content in that direction, so it would be nice to balance that aspect of it back out, as well. Perhaps the pendulum will swing back given time. I don't think things can go on like this forever, as frankly, too much of any one thing is boring and will just burn everyone out.
As for me, I of course have my own likes and dislikes, but I really don't care for explicit pornography, furry or not. It's just never appealed.
as in anthropomorphic? necessary is a strong word.Id say its a good thing though
If so, why?
anything g rated is artificially limiting.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I dont mind the sex. I could do without all the extreme fetish stuff though. And more general audience narrative works of high quality would be better.
Or more?
only if it involves my character *jokes*
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
cute stuff, funny stuff stuff showing off the cute curves of a naked body.I can do without the extreme fetish parade thats in the fandom though
And dare I ask why?
Well I like sex. I like cartoons and the 2 together can be good. Its all dependent on artistic skill, subject matter, characters and setting though
Yes.
If so, why?
Most people would call our fandom a "fetish". Though I don't agree with that at all, a large portion of us are fetishists. Myself included.
Is that why I'm in the fandom? Not at all. Is it an aspect of the fandom that I partake in? OBVIOUSLY.
"Necessary" isn't the word I would use, personally. There is sexually explicit stuff everywhere, this is just another place to find it.
I'm sure there are some people who are here exclusively for the porn. There are those who are disgusted by it, and those who are just here to be here.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Hell no!
Or more?
Also hell no!
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
To jump ahead and answer the following question, I am ONLY interested in cartoon porn. Furry or otherwise.
The stuff I'm into is too extreme and exaggerated to enjoy in 'live action'. I am turned on by violence, rape, etc. I DO NOT want to see that happen to me or anyone else in real life. It would either be a snuff film or a porno with terrible acting; both of which would be huge turn-offs, clearly.
With cartoons, there are no limits or boundaries. Nobody gets hurt, and anything is possible- all for your personal pleasure.
Take VORE or INFLATION for example. NOTE: I'm not into those But does anyone seriously want to see or experience that in real life? (I'm guessing yes, but not the majority -_-;)
Fantasy is fantasy, and that's what I, personally, am here for.
And dare I ask why?
Particularly forced sex, dacryphelia, medical fetish stuff and the like.
Huh. I should probably be drawing more of what I want to see...
It's nice to know so many of us have such similar thoughts on the subject.
I'm not crazy, WE ALL ARE!
No one has really been able to tell me, either. I can only conclude that they don't really know.
Just another mystery.
But I made chocolate covered bacon for our weekly bar potluck, and people loved it.
Personally, as long as it's not actively hurting someone else, it doesn't matter enough to be up in arms about.
Personally I love seeing a fursona's personality in a picture
- Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
"Necessary?" No. Sexually-explicit material is never necessary in any genre. Unless porn is a genre. Then I guess it's necessary in the porn genre. But it's by no means necessary in the furry genre.
- If so, why?- Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I'm on the fence on this one actually... I do quite enjoy a good romp picture because I'm a pervert and give in to certain biological wants. (Wink wink, nudge nudge.) But of course, I also enjoy less-explicit pictures from time to time as well! Furry pictures are cute and fluffy first and foremost to me. If they have sex? Not a bad bonus~ X3
- Or more?
I'm not sure that's physically possible... The fandom is very sexually-driven. Heck, there's sites out dedicated strictly to furry porn! So... I guess "more" would be like if this site and InkBunny had just porn? That would get a bit tiresome after a while...
- And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Porn! ... I mean... wait, what was the question?
Tentacle porn is a favorite of mine, but even better is immersion or "slime" porn -- which is like... slime critters and jelly critters encasing their victims and having fun with 'em that way! (But not snuff/suffocation!) I also like herms. However, boring as it might sound, I enjoy "vanilla" sex most of all. And I completely and utterly adore cuddly-snuggly sexin's.
- And dare I ask why?
Well, if you really want me to describe why...
Tentacle porn: I like the thought of being wrapped up in tendrils and touched in places I didn't even know I had~
Immersion/slime porn: Same reason as tentacle porn, but a step up from it. Oh, to be encased in this warm, slick solution and be touched in sensitive places... *Shiver*
Herms: I dunno. I guess I like the idea of a woman who instinctively knows what I want, but can shoot stuff all up inside me too. XD I also like the idea of boy-herms from a sheer dominance angle. I'm a very nasty person. >:3
Vanilla sex: Because sometimes, you just wanna have sex without all the bells and whistles. And cocks. And boobs. And lube. And so on.
Cuddly sexy times: Because I'm a cuddle slut who sometimes has strong, physical wants as well as emotional ones. Hee~
Sadly to sell, you need T&A. I've heard countless times where artists, and writers both say that erotica, sex, and the likes sells 10 - 1. (Gods I wish I had those odds in betting. I might actually do one :).
But if your an established artist, who doesn't care if piece (of tail) sells, and want to make something you like, then you should make what YOU want too. David Bowie is a prime example of that. His works sells yes. But does it sell like the Stones? Or the Who? Maybe not. Because he doesn't just write the 'pop song of the week' but what he wants to write.. He said he broke down once, and yes those that album/CD did very well 'China girl' and 'lets dance' was two I can recall. But he didn't write anything else like that since then.
So make pics to sell, and make a living. But don't sell out your principals.
Personally I do like a hot stud, or lovely long legged mare of yours. But to be honest, a playboy style nude would turn my head now, more than those two doing the horizontal mombo. The humor you put into pictures too, add to their values.
No one who is deeply involved in something can really explain his involvement to someone else if they have no understanding of it. This is as true of golf as it is of furry art. And trying to convince someone of the importance of something he, personally, has no real interest in instantly sets up an us vs them scenario, in which the enthusiast feels rebuffed and the non-enthusiast feels annoyed. But again, this is not exclusive to "furry".
"This is as true of golf as it is of furry art." I don't agree with that; furry is a special case and has parts that are especially weird in ways that I don't see in other hobbies and pursuits. When I joined the fandom in around 2000, there was always an acknowledgement that there's parts that you show folks and, parts that were strange and you be discreet about; these days I get a lot of this kind of thing, "Oh, it's like being a bowler! Who cares!?" and that kind of bugs me.
Case in point:
A fur I know, when they've been spending lots of time with other furries, gets really militant about being furry. "I don't care who knows that I'm a furry," they say. "Yeah, I post porn; I'm a grown up, it's normal to be interested in sex, I don't care who knows", they say. "This is my thing and it's like being interested in model trains or bowling, I don't care who knows." they say. "Yeah, that's me and x, and we had that fling a couple of years ago and here's art of us doing it in our wolf and rabbit forms. Heh heh heh! Yeah, I posted it!"
But then if they spend a lot of time with normal, non-furries they start up with this: "Sigh. I think I need to go through and make sure all my online presence is separate from my RL, so people don't know I'm a furry," and "Oh GOD, I'm so embarrassed! My brother showed his kids my furry art, oh, I could die!" and "Oh NO. Remember that pic of me - I mean, of my fursona - having sex with my ex-boyfriend's fursona? People FOUND that because it's still online and I didn't want anyone to know...."
The moral of the story: Furry is what it is, but it's also an odd, special case and it's NOT like being a golfer or a bowler or a boater or a model railroader. I haven't run across the time yet that someone's said "Oh NO. My mom found that pic of my girlfriend and I bowling at the Highland Lanes!!" or "Oh CRAP. Remember that Me-262 I built - from the Revell kit - and I posted it at modelairplanes.com and OH NO MY DAD FOUND THAT!" ...
And yet, in furry, similar fretful statements are often made. So yeah. It's not like golf.
... To which I hasten to add I'm not saying anything should STOP or that we shouldn't have your explicit what have you or romantic art of you and your mate; I'm just saying in my longwinded way, I wish people would stop with the brushing it all off and saying 'oh, it's just like any other hobby'. It's not, it has some special, and odd, unusual and sometimes troubling parts that make it it's own thing, and I just wish people would accept that.
If so, why?
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?yes and no
Or more?not so much
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? I am eclectic, some weird fetishes come to mind but mainly due to the fact that while I can turn the feeling on and off, I still have not found something that actually turns me off.
And dare I ask why? to be frank, I am a white, lower middle class high school dropout who is also a very high functioning sociopath who does little more than work as a farm hand and make costumes, why should anything that I find sexy be normal?
Not NECESSARY but i think without it the fandome would be somehow incomplete. I mean I dont know a single fandom that dosent have sexually exsplicit material.
Also we are talking about 'people' in a way so naturally artistic nudes are going to fall into that.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I dont think id swing eather way. Im a fur through and through even if it was as clean as the alphabet
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
I enjoy artistic nudes the most.
Lovey dovy romantic love making next
and last but not least
Masturbation
And dare I ask why?
Artistic nudes because I ENJOY the beauty of the human/anthro body. I was a sculptor for awhile and i really enjoyed doing sculptures of men and women.
Lovey dovey romantic love making because I dont have LDRLM in my life and i find it beautiful in a way.
LASTLY
Masturbation because its a way to get to know oneself and its usually frowned upon as 'art' but i believe it is.
This more or less applies to all forms of art, not just furry or visual art.
It's not exactly vital as such, we could probably do without it. I doubt that there are many aspects of furry fandom that we couldn't remove without the whole thing falling apart, aside from cartoon animals of course. But why [u[would[/u] we remove all the yiff?
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Or more?
MORE! MORE! IT'S NEVER ENOUGH! I love it so...
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
I like femmy boys, I like penetration and I like characters who are really enjoying it. Why? Well, I guess penetration is wish-fulfilment as much as anything. ('Nuff said?) Femmy boys are just so friggin' cute! (Girls being deliberately femmy is also good, but somehow boys being femmy makes me smile.) As for enjoying yiffing and being yiffed, you can create a dramatic scene of non-con sex and make it objectionable or artistic, you can show characters doing it anyway, but it creates drama, (in the literary sense, not the "drama-llama" kind), and it distracts from "the moment," if you see what I mean.
If so, why? Fur art can be just as entertaining and amusing without the sex.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Yes
Or more? I don't know if more but it wouldn't detract if there was less.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? I like the sensual work more than anything. A couple of furs just holding each other or making simple love is nice to see.
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
Of course. I wholeheartedly agree, although if it wasn't present at the beginning of the fandom we wouldn't need it because we would simply never miss it's absence.
If so, why?
It's part of the experience. The fandom would be really dull without a sexy picture every once in a while. (Or every many whiles, haha)
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Actually, I would not mind it at all. Porn shouldn't just disappear entirely, but I would enjoy it if some of the explicit artists and such actually drew some clean stuff more often, and clean stuff became prevalent as a whole. Some of the stuff on here i've seen is just so strange at times I break out in laughter at the thought of somebody finding it hot. The thing is that 99% of commissions seem to be sexual in nature. The artists/writers have to put food on the table, so they must take even the most outlandish commissions. The bottom line: Sex sells.
Also, sexual RPing creeps me out greatly, even though I have not witnessed much of it. Just create or commission some art or a story with your characters, in my opinion it's awkward unless they are RL lovers/friends.
Or more?
It's fine the way it is. Any kink can be answered though furry porn, the potential was limitless as it stood.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
That's kind of personal, but, looking through my favorites I expected freakier stuff, but I honestly am not that strange. I'm a big fan of solos and pinups, but I do love sex. I do look at really strange stuff sometimes myself, but not as much as I thought I do. Just a couple strange kinks here and there, sometimes I am willing to overlook a kink because the rest of the image or the artist's style appeals to me. We all have strange fetishes. No matter how much we try to deny it we all have our own special set of eccentric turn-ons.
And dare I ask why?
I'm young, that's just how my body and mind are acting at this time. I don't really know how I will change in the future, but I do forecast that I probably won't change that much. Future me will probably still say "Wheeeee porn."
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
Necessary, no. Almost unavoidable, however.
If so, why?
I think it's unavoidable because of the general age of furry fandom. The average seems to be late teens, early twenties. At that age, at least some people are still somewhat embarrassed about talking about sexual matters. By using the fantasy aspect of 'furry,' it becomes a little less personal, a little easier to talk about and a little easier to request. Also, I own a great deal of your work. Much of it is sexually oriented in that it includes (semi-)naked females. However, most of them are not sexually active in the work.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Or more?
Simple answer: irrelevant to me. I'm old enough to not be ashamed of asking for anything I want... although I do respect the artist's limits and don't ask for work that would exceed their comfort limits.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
In descending order: standard hetero, standard lesbian, standard gay. Uninterested in vore, inflation, etc...
And dare I ask why?
Way I'm wired, I guess. I'm straight and straight men like straight sex and lesbians. For me, looking at gay sex is way down the list (apologies to our gay contingent.)
No. There is more to furry than sex.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I like the smut.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Well drawn ones.
Animal cocks. Female bondage.
And dare I ask why?
Because good art is good art.
The other two are just what I get off on most.
No not really, i love the other art just as much as the porn.
If so, why?
because it is a from of art.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
I am not sure
Or more?
Sex is better then war.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
I love them boobs
And dare I ask why?
because they are like pillows of heaven?
Do I think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
No, but it's fun!
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Of course! With less competition, my porn would sell better.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Big, healthy gals in full rut!
A:Perhaps not, but like anime and Western live-action material, it tends to sell and appeal to some. But it would be great if we can pay more attention to the non-porn and even the non-soft-erotic stuff, like teddy bears, simple feral art, anthro animals drinking milkshakes at their favorite malt shop, ect.
Q:If so, why?
A:There are plenty of things out there that one can draw or write about other than sex and porn.
Q:Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
A:Perhaps. I mostly take in scant T&A, via either skimpy dress or full nudity. But I can handle the exposure of stuff cleaner then even that.
Q:Or more?
A:No.
Q:And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
A:If I were to enjoy graphic depictions of sex, it would be done with getting it too spoogy, no hyperfur parts, being tender and loving between the male and female characters as they use their bonding moment as a means to form a relationship, not just mere superficial satisfaction. Also if there is a soild story the sex is featured in, not just a superfical "let's take out clothes off and have sex" thing, but a well though of plot that incorperates the personalities, motivations, desires and feelings of the characters with plot and purpose as stories on other subjects.
Q:And dare I ask why?
A:I think it would be nice that way, much better than what you see in certain porn where the sex got more inportant than the characters, or on TV in the past twenty or so years in their depictions of sex in a similar fashion.
Why is it? Because we want to have it there.
Some hobbies and fandoms don't have sex as part of the appeal. You rarely hear about thoe out of control coin collector room parties at convention hotels. "Fondle my nickels, boys!"
Sex is passion. Passion is life. It's part of our basic makeup.
Is it needed? No. Do we want it? Yes.
Perhaps not necessary, but I don't feel that it should be banned, either!
2) If so, why?
The furry genre is pretty much like any other genre: you take what you enjoy from it, and leave the rest. Trekkies range from the hardcore own-your-own-rubber-ears-and-Starfleet-uniform type, to the sort who catch the occasional episode on TV - there's no single way to enjoy the ST franchise or the SF genre. I see furry in the same way.
3) Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Doesn't matter to me, see point 2.
4) Or more?
Doesn't matter to me, see point 2. :)
5) And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Hmm... Personally, I prefer *sexy* images to blatant sex. By sexy I mean characters showing off their fine masculine/feminine attributes, and not necessarily in the nude!
6) And dare I ask why?
Characterisation is important to me, and a fine body can be an important facet of a character's overall mindset - whether he/she is a total slut, or simply a married parent who still hits the gym so he/she stays interesting to his/her partner!
When I saw the journal heading I thought you were announcing your artistic renunciation of sex forever, and the world would end!
No, it's not.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Yes. Yes I would.
Or more?
Nope.
I have nothing against "mature" stuff. I have nothing against artistic nudes, or even echi. But I really do not like getting sexually explicit images in my inbox.
Yes. There are those who have no imagination and need someone else to depict what they can't figure out.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Or more?
Doesn't matter one way or the other to me. I look at what I find interesting, funny, or well drawn. If I don't like it, I move along.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? And dare I ask why?
I much prefer sensual scenes or something that teases. I enjoy having a full imagination and the picture should be the start, not the end.
It has its place. Furry can be flexible to be cute and harmless and for the kiddies or to shock the bejeezus out of someone. Let the imagination run wild.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? or more?
Balance is nice. Clean stuff and the occasional mature oriented tale makes for good variety. Too much of anything all at once and the same punchline every single freaking time can lead to derision.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? And dare I ask why?
Characters at a consensual age with a story history and sympathetic behavior that make me care about their activity leading up to the climax....so to speak...and after.
Coming into the characters cold (heh) for the most part probably wouldn't be as emotionally effective.
Furry is not like a cable channel. More it's like a cable system; whatever you are looking for in it, youll find it.
Furry as an overarching group is more accepting of the unusual because a) they grew up in a world with few taboos and b) we pretend to be unbelievable creatures, so why question someone else's fantasy?
My only issue is the medias fixation on our love life. There is no more or less sex in the SCA. Only difference is they have big men with heavy metal implements to deal with muckraking infotainment scribblers.
"Human conscience is always in debate... Human nature IS bait." - Unknown.
Hey! You don't ask questions, you don't get answers. Right?
I applaud your answer as being the best that you can provide and all that is needed to explain the subject from one's perspective. The term "Art Whore" seems a little rash and unforgiving in the light of talent progressing through business logic, but you are right at the old adage "sex sells". So long as we humans exist to procreate, or at least ACT in the guise of such activity, there will be elaborations and masturbations on this, approved or not. THAT is *my* say on it.
I would also say and encourage you to keep doing what you like doing, art and otherwise... it's what makes us human in a funny, furry world.
Necessary? no, requiring Sexually -explicit is as bad as prohibiting it
If so, why?
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Personally No?
Or more?
<ire? yes....
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
I enjoy any image that's hows an adult grasp of fantasy. I do like to see (for example) bondage, as it is new, but I am very TIRED of the person smiling back to show I really AM having fun not being a bondage fantasy
And dare I ask why?
Answered above
If there was no erotica things would be so dull.
I like pinups, cheesecake, bondage, but mostly depictions of love, even if just a little.
If I knew why I'd explain~
What I enjoy in erotic content is quality over quantity of naughty bits (both combined within reason can be fun sometimes), poses that accentuate characters' curves or angularity, and a sense of personality rather than characters just being anthropomorphic fucking machines. In the hard core images that I actually enjoy I appreciate extra attention to personality and facial expression. Some things that are liable to make me flush a bit are big hips, multiple naturally formed breasts (1-3 rows of 2, diminishing in size from top to bottom), taurs/quadrupeds (feral dragonesses in particular), thick saurian style tails, and gorgeous, soulful eyes.
Would I like to see less sex? I think it's more constructive to say what I'd personally like to see more of.
I'd like see more furry art that will stand up as art, regardless of whether there's an animal person in it. There are some outstanding anthro artists who do this already, but we can always use more.
As far as stories go, whether text or comic, I'm a big fan of well crafted worlds, especially hard science fiction like Steve Gallacci's Erma Felna, E.D.F., or C. J. Cherryh's The pride of Chanur. In fantasy, Vicky Wyman's Xanadu, or Christina Hansen's Ebin & May stand out. I also like it when authors actually explore the otherness of anthro characters. The Pride of Chanur is a good example of a book where the character's biology affected the shape of their culture, and their outlook on the world. The leonine hani were far more than just humans in lion suits. Robert Aspirin's The Bug Wars told it's tale through reptilian eyes. In fantasy, talking animals have a long history, and form a rich symbolic language. Here Comes a Candle, by Mary Hanson-Roberts shines as an example of what you can do with fairy tale tropes.
All furry art is representational, be it erotic or not. That alone is a strike against it. It is all fantasy-based. This is strike two. And the styles prevalent in it come primarily from two sources: Comic books and anime. Both of these are commercial media, which is looked down upon by the fine art establishment. Strike three. We're out.
There are those who come damned close.
You're right, a good story is a good story, regardless of how fuzzy the characters may be. Albedo and Fusion were great science fiction stories, and I would have bought them even without the animal people. This, and The Everchanging Palace is what got me into furfandom. I wanted to be part of a group that made stuff like this.
Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
No. No more than fan fiction is necessary in the sci-fi and fantasy genre. Yet it will exist because people like sex, and like seeing outlets for sex in a way that can be creatively expressed.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Nope.
Or more? Nope.
I think the level of sexuality cross with the other elements is about average for any fantasy fandom. HOWEVER I do feel there are too many inclusive kinks that should be shown the door. Jus' sayin'.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? Male and female pairings typically. Female solo and female on female as well. There are no fetishes that stand out to me as being things I'm really into.
And dare I ask why? I'm a mostly straight guy. I like seeing imagery of pleasured women. I like seeing art depicting characters in orgasmic bliss.
I wouldn't necessarily consider it necessary. I would, however, consider it akin to frosting on cake, or whipped cream or ice cream on pie. Also unnecessary things, but by their presence, they create a deeper and more rewarding flavor profile.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Or more?
I think there's a decent balance between sexual and nonsexual artwork, but I wish there was less inappropriate sexual behavior by members of the fanom in public venues. I saw a group of furs openly instigate cybersex in an open chat room in someone's livestream! I also have seen them grope each other in public, dry hump, or wear inappropriate clothing or accessories on their fursuits. This is horrendously bad manners on the part of the perpetrators, and REALLY needs to stop.
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
My favorite images tend to be ones with a good artistic value and decent use of anatomy and color theory. I prefer heterosexual or lesbian sex, and wish there was more imagery of heterosexual and lesbian anal play. I also really enjoy artwork that shows an emotional connection between its subjects. I do feel there's a really unfair balance of homosexual to heterosexual artwork in the fandom, and really dislike the heterophobic and misogynistic attitudes a lot of people in the fandom demonstrate.
And dare I ask why?
Yes, you dare. But I'm not sure if I can explain my preferences any more why I could explain to you why my favorite color is grey and my favorite ice cream is green tea. :P
And it could be that this is an instinctive response and beyond a rational explanation.
Im not saying Rape them till their eyes bleed but I do look longingly at my boyfriend and tell him to make me a sandwich and he comes back with six pounds of lasagna giggling. And I think that's pretty sexy. To a chauvinist that's explicit.
I'm not here to piss on anybody's fantasies.
And lasagna is pretty sexy all right. I love lasagna.
I rather think that if it was not the furry fandom it would be something else. Yes some of the fandom is a little extreeam for others. But i hear where you are coming with the different art shows. I say it is all unilateral has the ability to be explicit. It is all a matter of the who has more power to pull. The commissioners have the money and the commissioners at times can ask for something completely outrageous not because it tickles their fancy but just to see if there is someone actually willing to do it( First hand experience that this only happens at furry cons never have I been asked about it at Gen con but I think it's also an aninimity thing, and furrys are supposed to be weird). Then there is the squeaky wheel, ... Tipper Gore is in this category; And you give them any way that they can nitt pick anything they will if given half the chance. Then there is the third factor Media coverage. Some how every time no matter who is in charge of any thing for any kind of media coverage they always find the lowest common denominator of the group. So then while some thing is brand new spanking right out of the box someone can just as easily make it all no fun for everyone else because of the spin that has been put on it.
Put all three factors together in a cage match to the death and you get Lawyers for no good reason . So it's all pretty much save our ass before tipper gore and the cameras get the chair in the table ladder chair match with the con/ website/gaming group.
Less necessary and more inevitable. An art-based fandom with hot human-like characters, it's inevitable that folks will draw their favorite characters naked and having sex. Might as well embrace it.
"Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex? Or more?"
I think the fandom has a balanced amount of both explicit and G-rated. There's enough explicit material that whatever it is that suits your fancy, you can find it. If anything, more porn arts would likely make it harder to find the good, high quality ones. So, less crappy sex art, more good sex art!
"And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy? And dare I ask why?"
I'm extra weird, as I like my anthro girls realistic and imperfect. I enjoy it most when artists go the extra mile to make these animal-folks and dragons look like they really exist, flaws and all.
Walking past that comic book store stand so many years ago and spotting a sexy unicorn on a cover..
I still have mint copes of Xanadu and ECP at home tucked away in the closet.
Now I write furry novels and sci-fi novels too - with a leeeetle smut in them.
It certainly made me a lot more aware of the potential for furrydom - and appreciate a lot of the skilled artists
out there but its not vital - I think it it titillates rather than arouses most non-furs but the sexual undertones are also in a lot of 'clean' art too.
And if I spawned a creative mind, then good for me. We need as many as we can get.
Besides, the term "smut" is relative. One man's smut is another man's vanilla. I remember when "Peyton Place" was the most scandalous book out there because it actually included the words "incest" and "rape" and when parents wrote hate-mail to Hannah-Barbera because Wilma Flintstone was the first cartoon character that ever dared to appear on air pregnant. (That's right. Pebbles' was a natural birth. They did not find her under a cabbage leaf. Unlike Bam-Bam, who was adopted.)
And reproduction is a human fascination. You should take a gander at some "good luck" wind chimes from the old Roman Empire....

Do you think sexually-explicit material is necessary in this genre?
No it is necessary to humanity. some of the Oldest Art around is sexual in nature. Humans are animals. animals are sexual. especially when they do not have to worry about predators and finding food. Heck the Bonobos have an entire culture based on sex.
If so, why?
Furry is an ancient thoughtform. anthropomorphic characteristics overlaid on things is in my opinion one of the defining things about being human. it is not so much just self awareness but enough awareness in that we make things more like us in our minds as an expression of understanding the universe. people like to think it is all new and only evolved from cartoons and shit but that is just such a short sighted view. we have long taken on qualities of animals into ourselves as well as giving them our qualities. modern examples would be things like
she is a foxy lady
They move like a cat
i bet they are an animal in bed
he is hung like a horse
we compare attractive things in people to things in animals that we also find attractive (though maybe not sexual in the way of I wanna fuck that goat but more of a look at those muscles and grace type attractions)
therefore sex being one of the primal things in humans and anthropomorphism being a primal thing in humans it kinda stands that they would mix. but then people who never leave the fandom or look around at the world miss the fact that EVERYTHING in our world has been sexualized because SEX is more than just getting one's rocks off. it is an important bonding thing. you want to bond to the ones you love and in our materialist society we almost as often bond with a sexy car as we do the person we are with or just fantasize about. or increasingly things that cannot be yet real that we fantasize about.
Would you personally enjoy it if there was less sex?
Or more?
I would enjoy the subject matter no matter what and have for a LONG LONG LONG time. long before there was a furry fandom and back when i was looking at art from old civilizations and even just cartoons and other media
And if you like the sex, what images do you enjoy?
Honestly the more i see online with fetishes and such the more vanilla i feel. I like scenes of male on male (cause i am the gay) and i like seeing kissing and holding and normal looking sex. not hyper and most of the odd fetishes. mostly i like it when the anatomy is good and they have a feeling of being more real so to speak. like they have depth and mass to them even though they are a two dimensional image. I like seeing different builds from skinny to large. but not like Blobbish. if i want to see that i can look in a mirror. and looking for such things online means not looking in a mirror. I really love romantic things and i love things like seeing people in natural settings. i have a rather wide range of things i like body wise and setting wise. it is only when you get to unrealistic fetishes like Vore or Hyper or people made of jello and such that it gets to No. that and things like sex with corpses and kids and shit. nasty. also not a fan of excrement at all. like i said i feel pretty damn vanilla
And dare I ask why?
you dared and asked
