Good news, everyone. We have news!
As you may have noticed, the site has been chugging a bit in prime time. The problem: we've been hitting our bandwidth cap of 250Mbit. Yep, that's right. We have soaked up a full 250Mbit connection! This has been causing quite a few problems during primetime, and making the site just a bit less than pleasant.
To combat this problem we have ordered an upgrade to our connection. We're adding on an additional 100Mbit bandwidth, bringing our total up to 350Mbit. In layman's terms: epic huge speed! This should add a bit pep back into the site during peak times. That said, we'll be monitoring performance and making tweaks where necessary.
We're hoping to have the line upgrade done ASAP. All we're waiting on is for our host to get the upgrade completed on their side. No downtime needed.
As a reminder, the changes going live with the update:
* Streamlined Header - Revised, more compact header which takes up less space and makes navigating to all areas of the site faster, more organized.
* Disable Notes - Users will be able to opt out of the note system. Available via "Site Settings" in the Control Panel.
* Hide From Guests - Users will be able to hide their accounts from guests. Available via "Site Settings" in the Control Panel.
* Hide My Favorites - Users will be able to hide their favorites from being visible. Available via "Site Settings" in the Control Panel.
* Users Online - The site will now display how many users are online. The counter is located on the site's footer.
You'll know when the update is live due to the header change.
Also, thanks to
sciggles for her pushing for privacy settings/updates.
The privacy update (and some other fixes) which we've had on beta will be going live this week!

Hopefully you get what is needed to be done, done. And hopefully the new bandwidth upgrade gives a bit of a boost.
Ftp would be better, imop
I did notice they were recently running a special at their new datacenter which would give you a full rack plus a 1Gbps line for quite a bit less than what FA is paying now: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showt......php?t=1153506 "Full Cabinet, 1x20A 120VAC Primary Circuit, 1,000Mbps unmetered network connection, single cross-connect. $1,395 MRC and $995 NRC"
...Oh, and of course get that vaporware FA 2.0 up and running.

...... I really hope not
It would probably work better if they gave users the option to hide their status.
If you could go invisible/hidden then there wouldn't be a problem really.
Not sure if the 1337 guests is really that many, or just someone hardcoded it that way.
At https://www.furaffinity.net/controls/profile/ Blocklist Section:
Block users who are being rude or malicious towards you. Blocked users will not be able to comment on your work and journals, shout on your userpage and send you notes.
In other words: They are still able to watch, see submissons/journals/profiles.
I've had it happen, where blocked people purposely watch me and favorite my work. And I know they're doing it to piss me off.
Honestly though, if they're going to implement blocks they only need to have it so blocked user +wactch/+fav don't notify you.
THAT is a good idea! That solves any problems with people being aware/reminded about others who are blocked WITHOUT people being able to abuse the block system for the wrong reasons. Excellent idea there. :)
For the longest of time, I visioned it as a Commodore 64 connected to a vintage telephone
b e n d .. BENDER!
And what is the point for not allowing someone to watch or note you? If it is for the blocked users that use these methods to annoy their blockers, then WHY DON"T YOU PUT THAT INTO THE BLOCKED USER SYSTEM!?! Also, what happens if someone I am watching turns off one of these features, will I get notified? Or am I going to have to go through my watch list with a before picture and create a list of name that I must visit their pages to even see if they have submitted any new stuff. I personally think that this is just to artificially increase the amount of page views that someone gets!
The most of my favourited content has been found from other artists, so you make a good point!
They could also get rid of the non-cdn and use one that's actually got distribution in place - or maybe just finish theirs and dump some servers overseas.
So many possibilities! So little chance of them happening.
for a long time you've been the king of the kingdom for a long time. Blocked Users Cannot view page
I understand people have those who are genuinely stalking others, but this is something that will definitely be abused by dishonest people to get rid of their paying customers and to make it easier to get away with art theft. Dishonest commissioners can hide from their responsibilities and make it harder for people to collect evidence against them for Artist's beware (they paid for artwork 2+ years ago, artist does not respond to customer, customer won't be able to see that they're active/taking on more and more commissions, etc). And art theives can just block the artists whose work their stealing from and STILL watch that artist (even though original artist can't see them). This is a major double-edged sword that may help one problem but create others.
Blocked Users Cannot Watch
Some people may pre-emptively block people based on appearances even if the watcher did not do anything wrong at all and now they’re not allowed to watch an artist whose artwork they liked because they were pre-judged. On top of this, I've seen sites with this feature create a lot of arrogance and elitism. Some artists will block (or threaten to block) people just because they don't have an icon, not good enough of an artist to watch them or don't do something else for the artist who's threatening them with a block demands. This would kinda make FA less a social art site too when they could go to live journal if people want to only show artwork to a certain group of people.
Blocked Users Cannot Favorite
I see no issue with this at all and cannot find a counter point to this. Blocking favorites seems like something that could definitely be implemented.
Besides, blocking page-viewing and/or watching will never get rid of stalkers anyways. If you can't watch, stalkers can just bookmark someone's page and they can keep visiting that way. If you can't see someone's account, they'll just create a new account and continue to watch them. Worse yet, if anyone get's paranoid that new accounts watching them could be the stalker, then they may block people based on assumptions and end up blocking innocent people who haven't done anything wrong at all.
Adding these features will never solve the problem they think will be solved anyways. I think the realistic, best solution is what
I feel that even though you block someone- the communication is enough. I know people that have blocked other users and they still eagerly watch and praise their artwork despite blocked communication. Being able to view public work doesn't hurt or harm the artist in any way. If the content would hurt or harm an artist- they shouldn't be posting it for anyone to see.
Please take heed in what is said here. There are a lot of very petty people here on this site- users and artists alike. They will use these functions for the wrong reasons.
Don't.
Watches and favorites are a viewer's tool. If artists are going to be so thin-skinned as to get freaked out over someone they blocked watching them, just disable the display of blocked users in the "watched by" list/make blocked user not generate a "someone watched/faved you" notice.
If the blocked user uses the ability to look at the blocker's work for evil, that's a wholly separate issue of harassment.
Removing watch can also be abused as some people may pre-emptively block people based on appearances even if the watcher did not do anything wrong at all and now they’re not allowed to watch an artist whose artwork they liked because they were pre-judged.
The not being able to FAV option however, I cannot find a single counter-point to. That particular part I see no problem with implementing.
I understand there are genuine problems which is why people asked for advanced blocking, but the "cannot watch" and ESPECIALLY the "cannot view page" when blocked seems like a double-edged sword that will be abused and I really don’t think that is a good idea.
But like I said, blocked people not being able to fav does seems like a good idea. I cannot find a single counter-point to that one at all so that one could definitely be implemented.
Like if you blocked someone, you AND them, can't comment each other, fave each others submissions, or watch each other. Maybe make it where the +Watch and Add to Favorites links disappear if you're blocked.
I understand there are people who could abuse that - but i still think i'd feel safer if they added that stuff in.
You can't really ban a user from favouriting your art, or watching you.
As long as they can't contact you or note you, why would you want that implanted?
My recommendation is when a user is in your blocklist, don't block the account, block the IP address. This will boost prevention from more-than-one account holders from logging into other accounts to try and contact you.
If the blocked user decides to still contact them through their duping accounts, they can be filed for harassment.
Like I said, use an IP block system, which also blocks other usernames related to the same IP.
And the users online will be an interesting add.
Can't wait to use all the new features. c:
And I doubt everyone will also. You're still going to find other artists. Just sit on the front page clicking 'refresh'.
PS: I, for one, will keep my favorites visible I got nothin' to hide!!!
However, in the same vein, thumbnailing for gifs needs to be looking into, as a majority of them exclude the background, and show you just a garbled mess for a thumb.
Looking forward~
Are we going off FA time (aka another 3 weeks before an update about is posted again) or real time?
"I don't like change!" - -Stewie
Though in my opinion the beta banner is still ugly. The layout; that's fine. But the banner, yuck. I don't mean to offend the artist, but it doesn't look... professional enough. Please say you're going to change it :I
Other then that, the bits added on are helpful.
Also on things yet promise to us. When are able going to change the size of thumbnails and put personal icons for picturs in order to warn those of stuff in them? Because it been promise for some time and I'm still tired of seeing everything I don't want to see. To me it more of stuff I wish to unseen. Now I wish we could have thumbnails back and keep them part of the new site. Here is hoping they do something about thumbnails is done eventually. I hope you do something major with the site instead these minor trivial stuff, which could of done through regular site and not a beta. Hope there is an actual upgrade to the site and not this. Because it really pathetic for this to be a site upgrade.
http://www.inforelay.com/
PS: Thank you very much for the larger thumbnails.
Also, nothing about choosing whether or not we watch someone's journals? There are artists I like who post an unnecessarily high number of journals that are, plainly put, little more than spam (like, six or more every day). I'd care more about the ability to watch their art and not their journals than how many people are online.
But that's why I'm making the suggestion, to let them know people are still interested. Otherwise, y' know, no one will ever consider changing it. :P
But all the same, being quiet about things makes nothing happen, so I'd rather take .02 seconds out of my day for one day to make one small suggestion towards the betterment of the site, rather than tell people off who are only looking to make a small suggestion that may possibly lead to the betterment of the site.
Plus I'm pretty pissed that we don't have gallery folders yet.
I had a question that I actually wanted answered, and now the probability of it being answered has dropped to .0001%, thanks to this.
Just one or 2 post saying how fucking beautiful it is, is plenty ;)
Just checking, but how exactly would you like it?
(Don't say "like it was with the beta", please, since I don't know exactly what timeframe you're talking about)
I mean, that's practically lesson #1 of UI/web design: put things where the user expects them to be.
Not only that a filter for certain types of things would be nice too. I mean not everyone here agrees with scat, water sports, MLP, etc. I would like to browse FA without seeing two furries eating feces...
I understand there are legitimate reasons for wanting to upgrade the block system but it's a major double-edged sword that may help one problem but create others.
this could be abused so bad
i hope it never happens
Yes, yes it will be abused. a) There are a lot of immature people here that would block people for even POLITELY disagreeing with them. Some would block people based on appearances (even if they didn't do anything wrong at all). Some people would make demands for not blocking people (If you don't have an icon I'll block you, If you're not a good enough artist you're not allowed to watch me, etc).
I've already seen everything happen that I've mentioned above on other sites. I know it's going to happen here too.
And I'm sorry if that came off as an argument, I'm just really concerned that advanced blocking will be abused. :\
The other changes sound great. Keep up the good work
And also, please never make it so a user who is blocked cannot see the blocker's page. This is the worst idea ever. Fix the blocking system so they can't watch the blocker, they can't fav or comment and stuff like that, but disabling view from the profile is a horrible, horrible idea. It can be abused negatively so so bad.
A policy to stop people from uploading 2+mb .png files that could just as easily be a 250kb .jpg (with barely any quality loss) would cut down on a lot of the usage without any added cost.
Lol, that policy shouldn't be needed anymore in year 2012. It was understandable policy in 1990s when you have to keep file sizes small because connections were a way slower than today.
Mostly smartphones, because unlimited data plans are going away--even for users on "grandfathered" plans. And maybe one day coming to home connections (that part is just speculation though, but I could see it happening for the same reasons)
What would be more useful is the file size would be displayed so users who persist in posting ginormous .PNG's would lose pageviews they'd get from people who would normally wouldn't look at pics that big if they knew the download size in advance. I mean, I'm on a 35 megabit FiOS connection, and I still keep my color pics under 140K (and B/W under 100K)
If it's just Verizon that's going to kill off unlimited data plans off, it doesn't mean they're totally going away. I don't see bandwith caps coming to home connections mainly because in the future, IPTV will replace regular TV and it takes a lot of bandwith.
If anything, the solution is already there. Full view should have the full quality, whereas the small-ish preview should be as it is now. That way mobile users can browse, but desktop users can get the high quality image without it being covered in compression artefacts.
My suggestion to display file sizes is meant to divert pageviews from folks who drop 2-3MB (and up) PNGs because they don't know how to (or don't want to know how to) process their stuff for a wider audience.
I can see the case for putting the file size in the image information bit on the submissions page, so those people on phones can check before they click full size, but putting it on the gallery pages to discourage page views seems pointless and mean.
Also, as I said before, why do you care about full resolution images on a screen 3 inches small?
And that's all that's desired--nothing further.
I don't believe that people browsing on phones would be the only ones finding that info useful. It would just be nice for folks without high-powered connections, to know "if I click on this thumbnail, I'll be waiting a half minute before I see anything". I had that issue when I had 768K DSL. While I have a much better connection now, I'm not ready to assume the majority of FA'ers have it that good (and thus I limit the size of my own uploads). If some people avoid clicking on "heug liek Xbox" images because of this info, that's not being mean to the posters of such pics--they just won't be collecting hits from people who would have run out of patience and clicked 'back' before the image finished downloading--it's just a more honest accounting of traffic.
As for this other stuff your doing, congrats FAbook has been born?
Sooo you can hide from quests? I honestly don't see the point in this one, no one's going to be able to say anything to you unless their logged in or see adult material... So isn't that one rather silly?
Also, Note blocking? Sooo they are going to have to spam your shout box to ask you questions? That's just going to get a lot of people frowned at or blocked...
Hiding your favorites, what good will this do exactly? If youve been with us for the past year or four people already know what your into, so why hide favorites now? After all a lot of good artwork and artists are found by viewing favorites of others...
Bandwidth is possibly the only great idea here that doesn't make us seem like we are trying to rival an art site with a social one like facebook >.<
Whats next, having the ability to tweet on our FAbook pages? >.> If you guys are going that route you should just tell us now so we can be prepared for it.
Sorry, but you guys really have me saying 'wat?, Really?' a lot here lately
Thanks for reading
It's annoying to have to fix it manually, and i'm the only one who does with the people i talk to. Notes are a mess to read.
(Took a while to figure this one out)
Make it be!
I am sure several others were involved with the idea but after reading down some more, perhaps they should be noted, those who made the idea but then again thats the users and thats a lot of them, I think as an admin she is given credit for pushing for the idea to realize. I feel it should be deserved and respected, but thats just my opinion, I dont think her being 'the girlfriend' should have too much effect on her as an admin, perhaps giving her more access and ability to push the subject, yes, but not as much as getting all the credit. After all, there were a lot of users that suggested many of the ideas, she was just the admin that pushed it to make sure that they happened. She listened, she should get some respect for doing so. [ / end opinion]
I am sure they werent suddenly there. I would say what she did should be commended. She pushed it, told him it was good and told him to put it back on the table. I see nothing more than good in that, her and users all pushed it. And they finally listened, thats how I see it.
Never mind the concern about how minors might abuse it to hide that they are looking at adult work, in the past it would be easy to see if someone is faving adult material and if they let it slip that they were under age they would get reported. Now it falls sole to the artist to check if the one faving their work is of legal age. The admins I know are as a whole too busy to sniff out underage users by themselves.
I dont think it falls on the artist like that, not at all. I think it effects the viewers page, and I would think that if the user is under aged I dont think they would be viewing it ANYway because I am sure the admins would have already dealt with that. That and if it DOES fall on the artist then so what?
I dont quire know how to respond to this considering that is now what my comment was made from. I was more directing how scriggles helped rather than hurt. And you are going off on something entirely different. I mean which side are you on? Did you WANT the privacy change or not, your putting out quite mixed signals.
As for home computers which are shared, there's a simple answer to that, get a job and buy your own and chip in for a WiFi router and maybe the extra bandwidth. If that is out of the question, there's a good chance your too young to be looking at what ever it is that you wish to hide.
As for points, I see yours. It does send its own mixed signals. I know I wont be using the whole hide the favs things, but only self conscious people who are worried about what people think of what they are looking at will probably use it. And thats probably very few here actually. Maybe people will take to it and maybe they wont.
Some people just dont like other people knowing. Its not an entirely horrid idea.
Speed of creation instead of usability.
Nice, I would have thought a custom error page would have been better than a 500 error.
That way it tells the user to login and then try again, thereby allowing them to view the account page.
Also, the blocking system seems pretty much fine the way it is, but I think it could use an improvement with making blocked users not able to fav/watch the blocker. Other than that, I have no huge complaints.
I also agree with the other users that the showing the "How Many Users Online" option is a bit silly. I mean, how many users actually look at that statistic? Maybe less than 10% of the users here?
One thing I would like to see in the future is being able to sort submissions and/or favs into folder systems, pretty please? :3 That is the ONLY thing I miss from DA is their folder system.
Other than these few suggestions, keep up the awesome work!! :3
"hide from guests"
"hide favorites"
Oh hey, SoFurry, when did you pop into my FA? It's cool and all, but I mean, you already have your own website. Didn't think you needed two.
Also, the new header is hidious, why are you forcing that when many are saying no? I was all for the layout of beta when the menu bar was below the banner. Now its going across the top of the screen and it doesn't even remotely fit with the layout.
Also, might I ask about the status of the SFW/NSFW switcher I spoke to you about 'Neer?
I've checked and it works in the current version of PHP so its ok. Note me if you want it 'Neer.
Point taken
If people don't want notes why don't they just ignore them?
If people don't want guests seeing their pages why do they post?
They are just some nice features to have and helps to show we are listening to what users ask for.
A lot have been suggesting gallery folders (which would be very nice) but you choose to ignore that.
I wonder why they wrote that only -you- have been the one to suggest the privacy things. favoritism much?
It wasn't /only/ me and it should have been written differently. I was just pushing really really hard for it after listening to so much user feedback and wanting to do something to please the users.
The main reason I'm so against hiding Favs is because favs are a major part of networking and exposer for the artist, if that becomes hidden then it becomes a disservice to the artists.
A lot of people don't use the PM system for a number of reasons, I was just listing the most obvious from personal preference.
I'd say recode the whole system, or get rid of it entirely, really. Also, notes that pile up become an eyesore in the control panel to one such as me, like to keep it tidy from so many messages from cluttering up too much.
Also, there's the fact that people on FA don't read half the time when users say they don't WANT to be PMed, and the possibility that they do ignore it, said person that sends the PM might get the impression that they're being ignored.
Aaand, correct me if I'm wrong, can't admins read other people's PMs anyway? If not, then my mistake.
If people don't want guests to see their artwork, that's their prerogative really. I can understand the want of privacy. Albeit, if users have something "embarassing" or "NSFW" in their gallery, wouldn't it most likely be marked as adult, and as such, guests can't see it anyhow?
You know what would be some nice features? The commission tab being fixed. It hasn't been working for God knows how long for how many years, and it has yet to have been corrected. There's users that would actually like to see that come back.
We've been asking for YEARS for a more organized submission system, and we've yet to see that, too. Modifying, deleting, and uploading pictures one-by-one....is..aggravating. Especially if you draw a lot of commissions and want to upload them as advertisement.
We can't just go searching through notes, no, the only way we can see a note is if it is directly linked to us.
No matter which features we come out with next or fix there will always be users like this jumping down our throats for more. Give us time. We are getting there slowly but surely.
:3
There is another way, but it requires someone like Yak who has access to the database, I have my doubts but I do believe that the information stored in the database with regards to notes is stored in plain text. So in reality you can access it via another means. So there are technically two ways to access the information, albeit the second requires certain rights which I gather that, you, and several other admins would be lacking (so not to allow too many users to alter the database).
As for the Commissions tab, it was an XSS issue, I myself wouldn't know where to look for that issue in that pages code, but in honesty it would seem an easy enough fix. Its been inactive for 2 or so years.
Something I don't understand is why the page is still inactive yet the link is commented out in the source code?
I mean surely it could be commented out via some other means (i.e PHP) to remove it from being rendered by the web browser. Its not like it would do anything worse to the page.
I have no idea if there is another way to look at notes. I know that I can't see them.
It would appear that there are multiple permission levels on the site with regards to Administrators, users such as Yak and Dragoneer would ultimately have higher priviledges over other admins to make changes or revert bans, updates if they got messed up etc.
I'm not entirely sure why, mainly due to the massive tirade of comments that appear afterwards, but it would seem that whenever users offer up service as coders or even offer up code for features (as I did/have) it seems to fall on deaf ears. I'm not in anyway having a gripe over it, but it just seems that it it must be all "this" way and not "that" way.
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:26514952
There is a small/brief discussion between myself and Dragoneer, Theres a few others around somewhere but i fear the journals may no longer exist.
Just to point out, i'm not having a go at you in anyway, just airing some thoughts.
-Isn't there-
...Did I overlook something, or is it just not there yet?
http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/...../#cid:26502357
(Not directing that at you haha, just the userbase in general.)
The note system is pretty icky too that needs an update, I think it's already been said about it by other peeps commenting on this journal.
( I know. But thank you for the clarification )
I'm glad the admins are taking ideas and testing new things. Progression isn't always a bad thing. :)
Mobile-friendly website
They are not actually that difficult to make, it's just simply using a different CSS file to interact with the same divs and tables etc in your code.
This for example: http://fa.ikat.me/
Account Upgrades
Think of some functions that can be useful to users, but they can only pay for that upgrade to use it. Common functions such as bigger file uploads, custom profiles etc (probably won't take this into consideration but ideas are ideas. :P)
Points system
Like DA have, make a points system. Maybe some furries cannot afford to buy art money-wise but have bought points from FA to use with other artists to buy art. Good for people who may be struggling with money. :)
Groups
Enough of those account-based groups. Make an actual groups system, that displays the group icons on the user's profile without having the avatar-limit taking place and making profiles look poop.
Secure Download Link
I've noticed how the download link on submissions just link to the actual file itself. I think this is an easy way for underaged users to ask someone else to grab the link for them (thats if they have set their profile to under 18 / they have been blocked from viewing mature/adult work by an admin) so i would recommend a download file that processes a download, depending on the user's age and submission rating.
For example. If user is under 18 and submission is Adult, don't allow the download. (simple file to make, and I can provide if you want :))
Disable the use of changing your date of birth
It's in the user's agreement to provide a valid age upon registration. And FA have allowed users to change their age if they wish, making it easier for underaged users to act as a 21 year old to access the adult submissions. I would recommend removing this feature to prevent it. And it's only up to the admins if they need to change the user's age.
Add a "Clear Account" button
Some users may want to leave FA, and the first thing they do is clear their submissions/journals etc from their account. Make it 100 times easier by just allowing 1 button to do the work. although the PHP process may take about 5-10 minutes to delete from the database and delete the files related to that user, at least it'll save time for that user.
Albums
Title says it all. Do them. :P
Filter keywords
Give the user to filter keywords for certain types of submissions. For example, I may want to block MLP submissions from appearing. And since this can be bypassed by just leaving the keywords empty, maybe consider adding a check to the upload page so that the user HAS to fill out everything in the submission uploading page.
Avatars
I don't understand why FA converts all images to GIF, why not just have the extension the way it is? Also increase the filesize limit to about 100KB, as some avatars are in high quality these days and use up more space.
These are all I can think of right now. Hopefully they may come of use. :)
Increased avatar filesize is also a poor idea; just count the number of unique avatars loaded when you view a journal or submission with a couple of hundred comments, and imagine all of those using the maximum filesize. Completely unnecessary load on file servers and bandwidth, which apparently is already a problem. The only people who run into size cap on avatars are the people who want animations with a relatively large number of frames, and honestly animated avatars are not the best idea ever on an art site in the first place (anything that moves draws the eye, and you don't want to draw the eye away from the actual content).
The whole point of the points system is to have an alternative method of payment if you suddenly have not got enough money to pay an artist.
Plus, artists can also use those points to buy art from others.
It's only up to the artist then if they wish to be paid by points or not. :P
Same with journals actually! I always acciddently delete some because the "remove journal" is pretty far from the title, so I'll sometimes remove the one above or bellow it.
Like this: http://dribbbleboard.com/#popular
For in a gallery, search or browse.
All of them.
But I also see some interesting ideas. I know nothing of web design, though, and I don't want to slow the site down- time is a commodity.
If I had to choose one, and only one, change to make, it would be files or folders, something like that used to organize a gallery. But I don't know how much more space that would take up.
Out of curiosity, will the counter use flash?
wat?
The megabit term is used to associate speed of data transfer. FA was using its quota of 250Megabit so they got it pushed to 350megabit.
Long story short, the upgrade in megabits should equate to a faster site during the peak time, (E.g. less white screens, slow loading etc)
the megabit term is used for 8 bits to a byte of data. If they where hitting a 250megabit limit, they where using 31.25 megabytes. Therefor 350 megabits = 43.75 megabytes. What i misunderstood at first was bandwidth cap, not data cap. Im kinda surprised they where pushing 30MB of data a second though.
But if Fender's account run by someone different such as Dragoneer or another admin? Or is Fender a different own person?
Just one text reminder a day should be allowed. There, bandwidth problem SOLVED FOREVER.
No one can be that stupid.
My sides can't take this much.
A: the ability to opt out of the new format
B: a system like that of the browser and search for favorites and galleries
C: ability to turn off ads
Every comment I see from you is about your hatred towards the new top bar, I think people got the point but not many seem to agree with you because you seem almost obsessive about it.
Chill out..
Just calm down, you make yourself look like an idiot obsessing about how much you hate the header.
GG FA
Then again, this is a free site so it's not like it has any quality standards. Their main source of competition are jokes (Pedobunny and all that) so it's not like FA has to be genuinely good to be the best choice.
It looks like it has to do with how the ads are positioned, because my friend uses a higher monitor resolution and it looks fine for her. At least until she sizes down the browser window, at which point the ads hide under the banner for her, too! If there's any way to amend this, I would be very appreciative. C: I can't be the only person here who uses a 1024x768 resolution...
Other than that, I actually kind of like the new layout. C: It looks cool!
Hope you have a nice day :)
TBH I like a new layout~
I just feel there should be a button as to which users could click to go back to the old theme. I dont know how hard that is in coding and programming but it is merely a suggestion.
Like I also said, dont know what coding or programming may go into that. But it seemed like a good suggestion. Basically much like a google thing, when google changes their mail lay out they gave you the option to keep the old theme. *until the day they forced it on you* Same thing with facebook.
Only a suggestion/ curious inquiry. So, no bitching here, only trying to be helpful. I appreciate the warning of what was to come. At least they were considerate ^^ The admins do a hard job here and deal with a lot of flak. For being able to deal with that, I say go you ^^
I agree that the idea to keep the old site layout is a good option and would shut up some of those complaining but like you, I have no idea what effort would have to go into that ;p I imagine it might take up a lot of space having two layouts? Who knows!
Also, the anger could be done with out I agree. I like the old lay out much like everyone else. but then again this one isnt SO bad. I mean I like seeing what works and what doesnt, but I dont like seeing "FUCK YOU YOU SUCK THIS SUCKS". In all, its put up or shut up. Either say something politely or say it rudely, you will get more attention with pleasantries than with negativity. Okay too many cliches there.
Okay, people need to be more effective in their criticism. If your going to say you dont like something you say why in a better description than it sucks. If you are going to say fuck you, at least say why other than you dont like it. Well what dont you like? Its really that simple. So much hate not enough love. SO bitter some people can be.
For example, for a long time people have been asking for folders, 5 years on, no folders. Instead, they put all their effort into a new header no one was asking for, new curved thumbnails no one was asking for, and so on. Often it breaks things that weren't broken. The commission info tab, custom thumbnails, ect.
It's like having sausage and chips. A touch of salt and it would be up their with the best sausage and chips. Instead of salt, they keep trying different kinds of chopped fruit.
I'd say yes, but many updates of the past either never happened or were more of a case of stepping back or sideways rather than forward, so it's easy to see how some would look at this update pessamisticly as staff just tweaking easy things for the sake of tweaking or for their own preferences instead of dealing with the major issues that have existed for years.
"When a new Sonic game comes out the fanbase just starts endlessly bitching that the physics aren't right, homing attack sucks, spindash is over/underpowered, level design is bad, etc. Nobody is actually playing the game or having fun. They're just complaining. It's much the same vibe I get from the FA community sometimes, and that's not a good thing."
This is where I kind of lose you, and to be honest, it's an apt comparison for the more whiney people. I'm a gamer who is not a sonic fan. It's fair to say that the post adventures sonics games are awful. Even the 'good' ones are mearly not crap. That doesn't make them good.
However, Sega has no reason to make a good sonic game, because they can fart out crap, stick the sonic logo on it, and sonic fans will buy it. So saying "just enjoy it" doesn't really work. What's interesting is that, because FA is free, they have no reason to change either. It's not like users can choose to stop paying until feature X is implemented or take their business to a competitor.
"This banner sux!"
"You not liking the banner sux!"
And while optimisim can be good, just being a yes man can also be bad.
So I do extend my thanks to the admins who make this happen! :D
So nice to see someone so positive!
I've only been on here for about 3 months, but I love it. And I'm sorta addicted to getting commissions.
Maybe a poll will say if we keep it this way or not?

Not on purpose, but maybe still needs to be fixed in the light layout, so meanwhile it looks like in the dark one...
To see anything, you will have to use the dark layout.
Or try to play around your browser settings.
So far I see it,and in deep red.
Maybe it was already fixed (it's a live update, so expect weird wtf changes)
Unless these people are just complaining for the hell of it and are cheap-ass bastards.
I have mentioned Kickstarter a few times though. Until then there is no money and try not to be so insulting about it :T
>''In layman's terms: epic huge speed!''
It's slow as fuck right now.
And they should inform what they mean by the Mbit things because not everyone know what that is, what they have themselves (such as myself). I have no idea if my connection will be slower or faster. Apparently slow as fuck for me.
or, for those who like, just put an option in site settings to revert to the old banner setup? That could work too (though I really do like the drop down menus).
Just my two cents.

and 3 aup very strictly
Seriously if you change your interface more i'm sure more user leave fa for another website
I'm fine with the header.
I'm fine with the privacy updates (and will be surprised if anyone actually even uses them).
I don't even care about folders.
And hell I was even fine with the new layout.
But please, just give us a sign on whether or not custom thumbnails will be functional anymore, since they were a wonderful tool for me to use to inform watchers and other users about the content of my submissions, as well as for other artists too.
