As I mentioned yesterday, this picture pisses me off royally.
And here's the reason why.
...It goes back to the opening of baseball season here in Northwest Arkansas. I was in my kitchen area a few days back, swinging an imaginary bat and knocking a few out of the park, when I realized something interesting:
I was batting southpaw.
This, in turn, took me back to my training as an NRA Rifle Instructor, when it was revealed that my left eye was actually the dominant eye.
Now, I've suspected for awhile that I may be naturally left-handed, but, if you grew up any time before the 80s or so, the tendency was to force you to draw and write right-handed.
Which I've done pretty much all my life. And have had crummy handwriting and only fair drawing skills to show for it.
So, early yesterday morning, I had a minor epiphany. What would happen if I tried drawing left-handed?
The results are above. That's probably the first picture I've drawn left-handed since, presumably, some long forgotten nursery school or kindergarten class where the teacher said, impatiently, "NO, Mitchell! Use your RIGHT hand!"
And that pic, utterly untrained...
Is not that much worse than what I can draw with my RIGHT hand after forty-odd years of experience.
Can you just IMAGINE if I'd been drawing LEFT-HANDED all this time? I might be a better artist than Max Blackrabbit or DAQ or Terrie Smith, for Pete's sake!
Forty-odd years, largely wasted, at least from a drawing standpoint.
Any wonder I'm more than a little bitter?

Ack.
Stupid society................
That really sucks man. :(
I'm left-handed. Exclusively, in fact.
And yes, I was forced, rather unsuccessfully, to try to do things right-handed. as late as 1980. Why?
Superstition based on Christian dogma, namely Catholic dogma, even in public education.
Again, why? The answer may surprise the reader.....
The terms SINISTER and DEXTER refer to left- and right-handed, respectively, in Latin. Lefties are "sinister", therefore the evil of simply being left-handed was punished, and well into current memory. "Sin" simply means "left"- Not "evil" or "bad", or..... just "left". Because of cultural biases over many a century, and learning things out of context, people have disassociated "sini-" with "left", yet when described (accurately) in Latin, the left-handed person becomes evil, simply by taking the term for left-handedness- "sinister" out of context and under a different meraning altogether.
I am left-handed, but not because of some evil force- I simply am.
d.m.f.
- A southpaw.
Doesn't that mean you're actually shooting...no, no, I won't say it.
Considering the number of people who have lost one or both arms and have created beautiful art irregardless I can't really agree that being forced to use one hand over the other is all that much of an impediment.
;)
They tied my grandfathers left hand behind him, in school.
He turned out ambidextrous.
Further experimenting shows that I can write legibly left-handed as well, though, of course, the natural tendency is to ˙˙˙ƃuıɹǝʇʇǝl ǝɥʇ ǝsɹǝʌǝɹ
...not rubbin it in, just sayin' I can't imagine attempting to draw with my right, I can barely operate a mouse with it and I've had to use right-handed mice for 10 years now... It never gets easier...
