I Need Help!
My family and I found out today that we need to raise $7,000 in order for my mom to get the medical help she desperately needs. I will be open for donations, and doing artwork in exchange for money!
Last January, my mom became ill with what seemed like a bad flu. However, it turned into weeks then months of vomiting 20 hours a day, no eating or drinking. She wasn't able to work, go to the bathroom or even roll over in bed without help most of the time. After months of being in and out of hospitals no doctor could figure out what was wrong with her. No medication would help, and she was becoming extremely malnourished because she wasn't able to eat or drink. A single sip of water would make her vomit for hours. And of course without having eaten anything, and no more bile to throw up it became slightly nastier - if you catch my drift.
Finally, after 3 and a half months, we was admitted to the hospital for a long term stay. She was made into a guinea pig of sorts - with no medication able to help control her symptoms. With the amount of testing, surgeries and medication, she literally lost her mind. She went suicidal, had severe hallucinations, couldn't control her body movements, sometimes couldn't even recognize people.
The doctors had to have her in restraints 24/7, but called her Houdini because she always managed to escape. She also had to have someone sitting next to her 24/7 because as soon as no one was around, she would pull out her IV's and tubes, and try to jump out the hospital window. In one instance, my dad and aunt were switching shifts of watching her and in between that time she had pulled herself out of her tubes, hopped out of bed and slipped - smashing out all her front teeth.
By the time it was June, I had pretty much dropped out of school due to depression and stress and was running away from home. I never even knew that they called the whole family in from across Canada and the US to say their final good-byes. Fortunately, a doctor just happened to be visiting the hospital and took a look at her file - he recognized what she had! An extremely rare, and incurable disease called "Clarkson's Disease." They were then able to stabilize her enough to come home and get to on the right track to gaining weight back (she lost over 40lbs.).
She has had a few relapses between June and now, and is no longer able to work. Her life expectancy is a max of 10 years, and she will never be the same way again.
There is hope for my mom though, there is a clinic called the "Mayo Clinic" in Rochester, Minnesota that has the medication she needs to give her a longer life expectancy and a higher quality of living. The medication will cost about $2,000 a month unless she can prove to our insurance company that she needs it, and that this is truly the disease she has. In order for my mom to get to the clinic, she needs a downpayment of $5,000 and an extra $2,000 to cover her while she stays in Minnesota - since we are from Canada.
Feel free to ask me more about our story or her disease.
* Edit: Thank you all so much for the donations and feedback! I'm sorry if I am unable to respond to everyone right away, but I will do my best. You are absolutely able to help me advertise - it it greatly appreciated!
