QUESTIONS ABOUT KAISURA?
If you have a question or questions about Kaisura, ask them here. My mate
lathander , the actual creator of the species, will answer as many of them as she can or -wants to- when and as time permits. If your question doesn't get answered, it either doesn't need answering, or isn't going to get answered: live with it.
All questions must be made in comment form on this journal. DO NOT note them. All questions in Note form will henceforth be ignored. Anyone who ignores this notice will have their name blacklisted for being a punk and ignored idefinetely.
Don't like it? Tough. Lathander's had enough of people ignoring her as the creator of the species, and I don't have the time, energy, or answers for it.
A question will only be answered once. Read through the questions already asked and answered before posting a question of your own.
Do not ask if you can make a Kaisura, that is not the purpose of this journal. End of story.

Earlier iterations of the "Kaisura" concept when I was still working it out had features of actual regular animals mixed together, but it would be difficult now to go back and pick them all out.
Kaisura as they are now are what they are, put simply. Technically Kaisura aren't even anthros - an anthro is an anthro 'of' something, Kaisura are just Kaisura, period.
As for the "Kaisura origin story", they do have a history - as a component of the history of the fictional world they come from, but it's something I'm some time away from "publishing" in any sense.
I do love the art of them, and the appearance, and all sorts besides. However, I'm very curious about such things, and would like to learn more about them overall.
Some people have "half" Kaisura characters, which are simply hybrids I've allowed certain people to make.
And sorry but you answer to this and other questions made me think of another to ask: how many species, subspecies, or what have you of Kaisura are there? And if it's not too much to ask could you name and describe each a bit so I know which's what? Not knowing the full spectrum I can't say if asking that last question was a lot so I understand if all I get is a total b>>b
First and most obvious is the core species Kaisura, or the "default" type. Within this species there's a further genealogical division between the regular 80%, and the 20% or so that maintain higher breeding traditions resulting in genetically superior Kaisura.
After that, it divides into actual species groups:
* Kaisiri - Aquatic species
* Kaisoru - Avian species
* Kaisaku - Reptilian/Draconian hybrid species
* Kaiskari (Equus) - An iteration of Kaisura with similarities to horses and deer
* Kaiskari (Raam) - An iteration of Kaisura with similarities to goats and cows
* Kaisgor - A larger, bulkier, more bear-like arctic variation of Kaisura
* Kaisarax - A proto-insectoid type of Kaisura (extinct)
* Kaisoris - Dinosaur-like predecessors to the modern Kaisaku (extinct)
* Kaisroki - The rabbit-like Kaisura variation Fur often uses (technically extinct)
* Kaisaux - A semi-humanoid variation of Kaisura, closest thing to "anthros" Kaisura come in (in this case Kaisura spliced with Elves, though)
* Kaisrekn - A nubian desert-dwelling type of Kaisura with similarities to jackals
* Kaisgarou - The saber-wolf like iteration of Kaisura Fur calls "Kwuff"
* Kaisexodim - The formal name for hybrids (something that's only part Kaisura)
There's one more type which is able to assume the form of any other type of Kaisura at will (including the extinct ones), but it's kind of pointless to name it because Dev's the only one alive.
There is a type of Kaisura that can transform between the different types of Kaisura at will, but Devon is the only living one.
I am interested in their technology level (overall) and their technology base (biotechnology, hard-tech, a mix of the two, technomagical, magical, etc.) and how they mesh any mix of the above in. I am also interested in their basic social structure: do they organize as family, clan, etc., and how far up the social level this goes (do individual families or clans or whatever social groups they use have large-scale influence upon their society, etc.
Yes, I am aware these questions are broad, and may require some explanation, but I am also fascinated by the species (I adore well thought out and logically-designed species) and have been looking for information on them for a long time.
Many thanks in advance for any answers, and many thanks as well for being willing to share your visions with those of us who are interested.

Basically speaking, besides fabrics and textiles, Kaisura employ two particular raw materials to construct everything according to their purpose. One is a steel-like material that is highly durable, but relatively flexible and light-weight - commonly used in the production of tools and weapons. The other is a type of stone, which is used in construction. Kaisura employ techniques that allow them to finely control the density and shape of these materials, meaning they're precisely formed and shaped as they're to be used, rather than manually as individual pieces. Put another way, the metal of the blade of a Kaisura sword is actually formed to the exact shape, density, flexibility, and edge of the blade to begin with.
Another general example of Kaisura technology would be a particular engineered fluid they use, which naturally stores energy drawn from the environment and can be provoked into releasing it specific ways, such as for lighting.
In terms of militaristic technology, Kaisura employ martial weapons (swords, bows, shields, etc) but they're...sort of a hybrid between fantasy-exotic and technological.
I'll try to explain the social question another time. It's almost 2am right now.
On the engineered fluid, when you speak of "drawing energy from nature", there are several forms of energy (heat, electrical, etc.) all of which come immediately to mind. Fluid batteries are not new, though what you're describing sounds more like a capacitor, just purely liquid...
Interesting note on the military end. Now you've intrigued me further. I will happily wait patiently for the answers about their society. I may very well likely have many more questions, if you do not mind me asking them.
Again, the answers and your indulgence is much appreciated and you have my thanks. Sleep well.
Yours,
Mika Kyubi
~The Abridged Version~
Kaisuran society adheres to a caste structure, wherein each individual is part of a caste based on their role in Kaisuran society. This caste structure additionally has something of a hierarchy to it, as each caste is afforded a certain common respect and authority greater than the last, though in Kaisuran society, it is not acceptable to ever look down on someone of a “lower” caste, as all castes are considered inherently integral to Kaisuran Civilization.
Civilian Caste
Comprised primarily of children, students, and stay at home parents.
Aspirant Caste
Comprised primarily of adolescent Kaisura undergoing the initial stages of their study and training in their profession, and members of other species who have integrated into Kaisuran society.
Backbone Caste
So named as it is primarily composed of non-professional workers and laborers who are the “backbone” of Kaisuran society, and as such, have the highest level of non-professional social recognition.
Artisan Caste
Composed of artists of varying fields and professional craftsmen; musicians, dancers, stage performers, painters, sculptors, erotic entertainers, blacksmiths, architects, and so on.
Intellectual Caste
Composed of those in intellectual fields; historians, scientists, medical practitioners, and so on.
Spiritual Caste
Composed of members of both the religious and magical schools of spirituality.
Military Caste
Comprised of any individual who is part of the Kaisuran military, though this excludes cadets/recruits/trainees, who are still considered aspirants.
Political Caste
Comprised of any individual in a political or diplomatic position.
Royal Caste
Comprised exclusively of members of royal bloodlines.
It should be noted that with the exceptions of the Civilian, Aspirant, and Royal caste, which are always in the same positions, each individual Kaisura species has its own particular order to the hierarchy. The above is based specifically on the base-Kaisura model.
Within the military caste, is there the equivalent of ranks, and if so, how are they defined?
What are the privileges of the Royal Caste, and how does the Political Caste impact this (if it does in any way)?
Can or would you be willing to produce a concise list of the various Kaisura races' heirarchies (which would give an overview as to their priorities and outlooks)?
Returning to their military technology, you have described them in terms of a mix of fantasy and technological in nature. I'm interested in specifics, if you choose to provide them. I'm also interested in the how's and why's these are in use.
Many thanks for the consideration, and as always I eagerly await your answers.
Yours,
Mika
Members of the Aspirant Caste will naturally shift by its nature; a portion of the Civilian Caste is also impermanent and may shift depending on circumstance. The others, however, are largely fixed: Kaisura have one particular speciality or talent, one thing at which they are particularly skilled or adept. Once identified, this becomes their role in Kaisuran Civilization, which in turn determines their Caste. It isn't unheard of for a Kaisura to develop other skills, obviously - they're very intelligent creatures - but changing Castes is quite rare, as it encroaches on tradition.
That said, there are some instances where changing Castes is viewed only as a positive. For example, experienced and wisened members of the Military or Spiritual Castes transitioning into the Political Caste is one of the more common cases of Caste-Migration, and almost always seen in a positive light for being beneifical to Kaisuran society.
As for there being a stigma attached, no. The simple fact is no Kaisura would abandon their obvious speciality to do something else, and those who develop a second speciality or skillset will often only substitute into it without abandoning their original calling.
As for any 'ritual' being involved, the answer is primarily no, with the exception of the Spiritual Caste.
The Military Caste naturally has a structured heirarchy of ranks, or it wouldn't function as a military. That's abit of a silly question, to be honest. I'm not going to go into detail on that right now though for a reason I will leave at the end of this reply.
Most Kaisura species have their own royal family (but not ALL of them, some are too new), who are the figurative 'head' of their particular species. While the Government Caste handles the vast majority of the day-to-day "running" of Kaisuran Civilization, the Royal Caste holds particularly strong influence and some limited final-word authority. Each Royal family has a head - a Queen or Empress (only one known King) - with feminine children being Princesses (male children are Marquis) - and branch-family being headed by Baronesses (or Duchesses in some cases).
The Royalty Caste is largely about pride and tradition, as they primarily represent the past, but also maintain the highest breeding standards of any Kaisura bloodlines, and so are in a sense the most "pure" (genetically) examples of their species, which is a matter of pride (however largely impractical).
As for going into any greater detail on the specifics of each species' heirarchy/philosophy/views and militaristic technology, this FAQ is about answering questions, not writing a novel. There has to be a line in the sand somewhere for the sake of my own sanity and time, and I'm drawing it here for now.
Thus far, I find the entire of this intriguing, to say the least. This is one of those things where I'd adore sitting down and chatting for hours about, though obviously I shall not, nor shall I ask for such in anything but a joking, light tone.
On the matter of the military, as a comment more than any other question, aside from a loose hierarchy, it is possibly, though difficult, to run a military where specialists in a given field, regardless of actual rank, take charge of situations involving their specialties. There HAVE been a few wartime examples of this in the United States Army Air Corps in World War 2, but it isn't common.
Still loving the information thus far. Many thanks!
Yours always,
Mika
Technically Kaisura eat the same thing other creatures do; vegetables, fruit, meat, and grain. But they way their body processes food is so different it doesn't really matter so much 'what' they actually eat specifically.
Lastly, what are some traits that are standard throughout all the various types of Kaisura (if there are any)?
The abbridged version.
Technically speaking, Kaisura are capable of conceiving with almost any living thing. However, causing conception requires one of two certain gene markers (colloquially referred to as the Patriarch and Matriarch Genes). These gene markers occur in all non-Megrodite genders (gender appriopriately) 40 years into their lifespan, unless genomic iteration activates them earlier (rare).
Megrodites exist outside this limitation, as their particular genomic makeup grants them both markers, which typically activate only 7 years into their lifespan (offset by the fact Megrodites represent 1/10,000 of the population).
Further to this is the Assimilant Genomic Branch; a Genome extension necessary to concieve hybrids (half-breeds) between Kaisura and other species, without which conception is not possible. The AGB occurs in all Genders, but at a 1/1,200 population distrobution, and reduces conception success rate by 20%.
Praternal Conception - conception which causes pregnancy in the partner - is caused only by Male and Praternal Female Kaisura at a 70% success rate. Female Kaisura are only capable of becoming pregnant themself, for obvious reasons.
Hermaphrodites are capable of Biunial Conception, a Kaisura-specific mechanism of conception in which the Kaisura can cause - or become - pregnant itself, even if it is the one doing the penetration, through the natural mechanism of genetic osmosis of all Kaisura.
Megrodites are also capable of Biunial Conception, but uniquely have conscious control over the process. Megrodites are also capable of self-conception, though the technical definition is inept, as the intelligence of the tentacle symbiotic is theoretically a conjoined but inidivdual creature.
However, all manner and mechanism of conception are subject to the same baseline constraints. Kaisura, regardless of gender, have a heat-cycle in which they enter heat for a 72 hour period once every ten months, after the first instance (which has a shorter burnout period of only 11 hours). It is -only- during a three hour window within this 72 hour period that a Kaisura can concieve. The occurance of the 3 hour window is not consistent between heat cycles and only other Kaisura of advanced physical development (60+ years) can identify when it is occuring from the outside.
Breeding between different Kaisura species is generally rare. The success rate of conception between two different Kaisura species is exceptionally complicated as it relies on all listed factors plus the individual species' modifiers, or Gender X Age X Genetic Makeup X Species both ways to determine the actual success rate.
Either or, it all makes sense then after I read it through a couple times (I didn't expect that terminology used :P). Thanks for the insight! :D
Got another question though... Since all Kaisura, regardless of gender enter into heat once every ten months, wouldn't this make the overall reproduction of the species as a whole exceptionally low? It would seem that unless a Kaisura lives with a lot of other Kaisura, the odds of finding another in heat AND in the able-to-conceive window looks to be quite low. Or does this not apply to males and/or the male aspects of herms?
And no, Megrodites aren't defined by the second penis in the tail. Males have that too. Megrodites are defined by a unique physiological configuration that includes all the components of the other genders concurrently with the addition of a tentacle symbiotic inhabiting their body.
During the Megrodite's physical development, the extraneous genetic information creates an embryo within their body. The Megrodite and the embryonic then undergo a linked physical development which sees the embryonic develop into a symbiotic creature, while the Megrodite's body develops to integrate and accommodate it.
Once this development is complete, the Megrodite and the symbiotic are quite comprehensively linked - the symbiotic is integrated into the Kaisura's physiology rather than simply occupying space in their body - and they're linked by both the nervous system and at the cellular level. They have independent minds (the symbiotic even has its own personality of sorts), but can also 'read' each other's mind (via nervous system integration, not "psychic powers")
As for -why- they have two tongues - there is no fancy explanation. I designed them that way because I wanted to.
also i'm very interested in eyes and what colors go with what sight tipes as well as how there horns play in to the ability to proses sound or if they are just aesthetics.
The vision question is much harder to explain. I will say this however - Kaisura horns have nothing to do with hearing - they're sensory arrays which are sensitive to particular natural elements relating to the vision type that specific Kaisura has. Kaisura actually have fairly mediocre hearing and sense of smell.
I would think a 9 foot tall skunk, depending on breast size, would probably weigh in around the region of 300~350 pounds, if that helps.
Thank you in advance for you answers love. Sorry I'm 6 months late in asking this but I've only recently developed my interests in Kaisura, thanks to furball majorly.
No type of Kaisura is very much like any particular existing animal - rather they have features similar to existing animals, but with a distinctive twist on them. That said, there is a type of proto-Kaisura that is bat-like.
So almost...hmm I must investigate this further. Would you have anything I could see that mentions this proto-Kaisura that is bat-like? So far everything you have said so far has really grabbed me.
An example of this would be that the Reptilian, and Aquatic Kaisura both evolved from the same Proto-Kaisura, but in two different directions.
I rarely list or name Proto-Kaisura because in most cases, they would naturally no longer exist, having evolved into something else.
The somewhat bat-like Proto-Kaisura is an exception because it's one of three "modern" Proto-Kaisura, meaning they're relatively new and will be around for a while yet.
While I am unable to give a specific ETA, there is something in the works that will be posted in the near future which has rough-sketch illustrations of many different kinds of Kaisura on it. The bat-like Proto-Kaisura will be one of them.
The second part of your question is a bit more complicated, but the simple version is they are all connected.
1:can kaisuras breed with other furs or anthros?
2: can kaisuras make furs such as a vixen like my self part kaisura with out compleatly altering said fur?
But... I named her Suri Saffron...
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10953094/ -- NSFW
I used a reference sheet of Devon ( http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1892058/ ) as a base ground for making Suri, assuming that this is what all Kaisura looked like at the time. I showed it to a friend, and the above image (along with the desired colors I gave her) is what I got. Sorry if Suri's resemblance to Devon peeves you off, as it was how the artist -drew- her and not really how I envisioned her appearance to be, but it kinda worked.
So that said...
What kind of Kaisura -would- Suri be/resemble?
And once more, very sorry for any similarities she might have with Devon; it was unintentional, as said above... and I really hope I can find an artist to revisit Suri and work her appearance ground-up.
It is possible to move back and forth between Earth and Kaes'Aran via several (and only several) specific gateways that route through an alternate layer of reality that is able to still be connected to both due it not conforming to the standard rules of space-time or eucledian continuity. These gateways are, however, fully controlled on both sides by government agencies (on Earth) and the governments of certain species in Kaes'Aran. One does not simply go to Kaes'Aran or vice versa on a whim, in other words.
Ura aren't really physically strong, when you get down to it. They are comparitively stronger than a human would be if they were the same size, but not by *a lot*. it's the comparitive scale that makes them seem strong.
The exception to this is in the legs; Ura are capable of jumping roughly five times their own height in both height and distance (so a seven foot Ura can jump about 25 feet in height and distance, for example). Sufficed to say they also run fairly fast, but not exceptionally fast. Most of their physical prowess ultimately comes down to a combination of their agility, dexterity, and being "strong enough".
Particular species are more technologically inclined than others, with the bulk of Kaisura technology being the product of one specific species that is disseminated throughout Kaisura civilisation on a per-species basis subject to their acceptance of technology (which varies).
Kaisura species have historically gone extinct through two specific mechanisms: genetic stagnation leading to decreasing birthrates, and disastrously intense and prolonged conflict.
Or just because Fur is using them? lol
1.What is the name of the capital city of the Kaisian Empire?
2.What climate can be found? (obviously in the parts of the city that are on the surface as i guess the city will be both on land and sea.
3.Any words of the kaisian language please? seriously please?
4.And what things of interest could you find in the capital?
If you guys aren't gonna answer all questions or a few... just answer the first one. Thanks in advance.
also if it is a kaisaku then are kaisakus and kaisoros the only kais'ura species that can fly?
Also, there are two characters named Devray, so I don't know which one you're referring to.
I might try to do more well ordered questions. It's just that these questions were written when they were thought of.
I also have more questions then:
I want to know about this other Devray. If he is a character in Kaes'aran (I have literally no clue who it is). What type of kaisura is it? What does it do? What family is it from? Age? History?
Also I read an old question that Furball answered and i wanted to reiterate it to you. As Devon Arlequis do you have a name for your symbiosis?
The other Devray belongs to me and is an old design of another Kaisura species I haven't acknowledged yet.
Ura are not environmentally specialised, but they don't live just anywhere it's feasibly possible for them to.
Ura form the primary "base" population of all -developed- population centres, meaning wherever a place can only reasonably be called a -City-, half the population will be Ura. Population centres that would better be described as Towns, much less Villages will have significantly lower numbers of Ura, typically the minimum required to maintain political infrastructural continuity.
That said, there aren't that many cities. The Kaisian empire is the dominant race of Kaes'Aran because they could realistically wipe out every other race, but chose to establish stable, organised unifying politics and economy, and have long since settled into a role primarily of mediation and peacekeeping in nature.
Are there any other families other than the Arlequis Bloodline worth mentioning due to their involvement in kaes'aran's history?
Kais'ura need to drink water right? unsalted water... right?
Yes.
Kaisura physiology is weird, as I've alluded to countless times. They can actually process hydrogen into energy biologically, so they could realistically live solely off water for prolonged periods of time if they wanted to; they largely chose not to. But a simple answer to your question would be yes.
For pavement and sidewalks in the capital, what materials are normally used?
What things connect the two sides of the city through the river?
Also as it's river is not natural, how deep is it most of the time?
Awful?
Meanwhile.
Can you name another city in the Kaisian Empire worth mentioning? and if there's anything special about it in comparison to other cities what would that be?
how close are they to the closest shore? and closest land kaisura settlement? and are the cities completely underwater?
Do they sink or float more than humans? or there's little diference?
Can they swim faster or slower than humans? or there's little diference?
Can they see better or not underwater? or there's little diference?
etc
If some Kaisura subspecies can see as previously mentioned, how well can they see a living thing behind any matter? Can they see only the outline?
And finally, if someone can see "living things" through "matter" can they see someone behind a tree?
You mentioned both pure blood and stagnation in two different posts, what are the consequences for either? I am assuming that pureblood means some kind of inbreeding, and I wonder if there is a culture to it in the general population and if they have means to avoid and counter genetic stagnation or disorders to keep the bloodline healthy. Also is public nudity a thing or that something best left for places where appropriate? Finally you said marriage would have 3 members for it, does this also pertain to cultural differences or some kind of necessity for specific reasons?
Also how do you say Kaisuras? I keep saying it in my head like: Kiss-er-eye
Genetic purity isn't just maintained through inbreeding, it can be reinforced through inter-bloodline breeding two sources of particularly good genes to reinforce it. This is actually not encouraged in Kaisian society normally, as while it has no physical health consequences unlike most creatures/humans, it also keeps a bloodline very narrow and promotes insular views and elitism.
Not all Kaisura have tentacles. Only Megrodites do, which is one specific gender out of multiple, and it was originally just a feature to make Devon more unique and distinct really, although there's a lot more to it than has ever been shown in any artwork available to the public.
All Kaisian species evolved from the Kais, which were the original species. The Ura (Kais'Ura) are just the central/most represented species, there are about a dozen Kaisian species in total.
Public nudity isn't particularly common. Kaisian species aren't (usually) all that concerned with modesty, but they developed an appreciation for fashion at some point in their history, and there's a big trend for fashion that accentuates physical attributes amongst them.
You probably asked more questions than I've answered but I hope this suffices for now.
I Hope we get to see more drawings of them someday and especially of their social and family structure and culture. It's probably one of my favorite creature creations ever made.
Do Kais'uras' fur shed? how often?
Does a Kais'ura's pattern and/or colour change? why? (Is it due to fur shedding? age? something else? or due to multiple reasons?)
In what parts of a Kais'ura does their fur grow longer? Do these places change with different genders?
Does a Kais'ura whose family has lived for generations in cold climates have longer fur than one that doesn't?
That being mentioned... I did find this quote from a post 12 years ago
"The last note would be to her vision, as it's a matter of curiosity. Everything she sees is in a scale composed of 8 different shades of blue, ranging from very light to very dark. On top of that, everything she sees is 72% opaque; that is, she can see through 28% of the mass of anything within her field of vision. Basically, when she's looking at someone, she not only sees the outside like normal, but also sees a silhouette of their insides - the same is true for inanimate objects."
So from this quote i have a few questions:
First and foremost: is it canon or is this no longer the case for Devon?
Secondly, if this is canon: this refers to "Devon", does the same apply to other Kaisura subspecies?
And finally: what effect do the horns of a Kaisura have on their vision?
What are some of the most popular places to visit in Pax? whether you are a citizen or a visitor
In comparison to the Kais'Iri and the Kais'Ura, what place do the flying subspecies of the Kaisura have in the Kaisian Empire? what specific features do they have? and what do they normally excel at?
Kais'ura eyes have been drawn by Furball sometimes with no black pupil and other times with a hollowed out black circle with spikes and some black dots on the outside of it (I assume 4 spikes and 4 dots for each), is the latter purely an easthetic choice by the artist? or is that what Kais'ura eyes should look like? If so, how do those eyes work on producing vision to the character?
Finally, are these types of eyes present in other subspecies of Kaisura like Kais'garu or Kais'roki?
