Regarding my fursuit. ********
A small few of you know what has been going on with this.
For those who don't, here it is.
I commissioned a fursuit head from Rarakie or FurGen Studios on October 3, 2011.
I was told she would start working on it after February 3rd.
Then- completely out of the blue on October 27th- My head was completely finished & posted to FA. I only received one WIP shot which I did not even get a chance to see or respond to. How I found out that she had even STARTED my head? - People were noting me here on FA saying congratulations. I didn't have a chance to give head measurements (the head is a a bit too big for me) or anything.
I had just moved so I held off my last payments until I found a job- I was hired on November 22nd and sent the rest of the money that day.
She shipped it and it arrived quickly.
However there were issues when I opened the box.
First- the box was too small and the ears were bent at such an angle that the glued seams had come loose. you could even see the canvas that the fur was put onto. Yes- there were holes in the back of the ears. She left out the vertical white stripes on her ears which were clearly pointed out in the reference I gave her. (http://i652.photobucket.com/albums/.....ntifaceref.png) The muzzle was not symmetrical- one side was larger and went down further than the other side. The jaw was crooked. Hot glue had been dripped on the face and wiped off- but it was still visible. She shaved the fur down too close on the bridge of the muzzle and you could see the canvas. The nose had fallen off and was rolling around in the box- it was not even completely painted.
Her photos made the head look beautiful. That was... not the case.
She played her angles very well in her photos to hide the symmetry issues- and she edited the nose to make it look like it had been completely painted.

I emailed her about it.
She apologized and told me to send it back to her- saying she would pay for shipping both ways and make me a tail to match her as compensation. (When she first reimbursed me for shipping she sent me NZD instead of CAD which left me out $50- I denied the payment and emailed her and she sent it again , this time in CAD. I don''t know if this was a genuine mistake, but she seems to do everything in USD so to me it sounds fishy, but I can't be sure.)
Months past. she continued to work on newer commissions instead of working on mine. In fact- I only just got her back today!
I had to pay an additional $172 for customs to pick it up and I have not yet gotten a reply from Rarakie about it. I emailed her yesterday and she's posted on FA since then, but has not replied to me.
I'm not happy at all.
This time, the ears were completely redone wonderfully. They look great and I'm very happy with them. However the jaw is still crooked (something she said was an easy fix) It looks like she pretty much fixed the muzzle symmetry.
So why am I so upset right now?
The right eye is completely ruined. the end of it has been torn off and crinkled and the colour has been rubbed off.
The nose looks like it has been repeatedly hit with something.
And on top of that? No tail in the box! She told me a few weeks in advance that she would ship it with the head.
Of course!
This has been such an ordeal. :( I paid $870 USD for this, plus shipping AND I tipped her. I'm in over a grand on this head... I feel I definitely got the short end of the stick.
I will post pictures up of what I have later. I'll definitely be making an AB post with emails included but right now I am so frustrated and upset that I just need to go do something else to cool off and have a breather.
EDIT:
She responded to my email- and says that the suit was fine before she shipped it and that the damage occurred during shipping... :/
I don't know if there is a 'proper' way to ship a suit head by itself- but it was just in the box with no protection... If that should count for anything.

As for the box, I'm sure everyone is different: Media sent my fixed up in a just big enough box with paper and empty water bottles.
Not that I am giving any lee-way to the crafter mentioned. v.v
And of the couple people I had mentioned my issues to- I would hear back from them that they had known other people with problems too. :( A friend of mine over here in Vancouver commissioned her about the same time I did. They had an arm sleeve falling apart and feetpaws that were too small, not to mention they were worried about the way the ears were attached...
It sounds to me, from everything I've heard from multiple past commissioners, that Rara favors some commissions over others, and if she's going to do that, she needs to get out of this business (or the business of commissions all together). That is the absolute worst thing you can do to your customers, and if that is how you're going to run a business and treat your customers, you need to find something else to do.
-hugs- Again, I am so, so sorry, honey! If you need someone to talk to and blow steam at, I'm here! You can even text me if you want, if you want my number, just ask. I really hope that something good will come out of this awful situation, especially for you. I know the least I can do is make you something to help you feel better <3 Please feel better soon!
I've dealt with a fanbase coming after me before- people make it into a waaaaay bigger deal than it is. Usually they post 1 snide remark and you never see them again.
And I don't know- she was definitely really professional and friendly in her emails. And she says the damage happened in shipping, of which I have no proof that it didn't because I had pictures of it before she sent it and it was fine.............. I believe you saw those pictures over on Leo. I felt so good about this- and then... bam. There's an angler fish and my good feelings are gone. :(
Thanks for the support Gin, you're awesome. <3
Like something this valueable, some sort of shipping fragile note on it, or like insurance on it should be part of it obviously. And now SHE is going to probably play the whole "well it was fine when I sent it". You paid for a product, and it's up to her to see it gets to you at least.
I'm going to try and get a hold of them tomorrow, but for this kind of damage the box would have had to have been opened, I'm sure. :s So I'm a little confused on how I go about trying to claim on it....
(And you need to get to the Island sometime soon!)
She literally just told me she sent it with insurance. But I just went to check the box and the area for extra coverage is blank. u_u
No excuse, I hope you can get a replacement or partial refund :( NO reason a suit should get destroyed by simply being in a box.
Im sorry, but shipping would not damage a head like that if it was well made to being with. I've shipped suits to England and Australia and never had any damage :/
Im surprised she still gets commissions with how many bad reviews she gets. *facepaw*
I honestly do not think the damage happened in the box. I can't say for sure of course but.... Aaagh
Is she just going to not do anything about it??
BTW if you look closely at the photos she took none of them are head on, they are always at some angle and you can tell that the muzzle is off if you look hard enough.
art isn't anatomy correct, so I wouldn't be surprised that her suits were a mess.
I feel incredibly bad for you, and mad because she isn't being careful or even trying to do right.
I hope your tail at least comes out GOOD. and yes she should have at least but something in there to keep the head still.
paper, bubble wrap, that special shipping air pockets? something. and insurance. A nose doesn't get like that from a box.
I hope she again, fixes everything right for you for FREE. she needs too. its the right thing for her to do.
I'm sorry you had to go through such an ordeal with her. I hope things get resolved and other people can avoid having to share your experience.
Seems to me that was the best way to send a suit.
So sorry this has happened to you. My best friend is a suit maker, so I can understand the frustrations on both sides. Hope everything works out for you.
When I sent it back to her for repairs I did the same thing, put it in a garbage bag, with the nose in another bag tucked inside the head, and used scrunched newspapers as padding.
Again I'm sorry!
