Bad news

Bad news, guys.
Russian politics gave birth to unlimited censorship of the Internet. So now they can block every soure (for a russian people) they want without any explanations. They saw it at the last U.S. drama and thought it is a brilliant idea! Well. Looks like is was their last step to make my country complete dictatorate.
So. Now a really bad thing: thay can block FA for me at any time. I don't think they'll do it, but now I have this problem and it's real.

Silence Dissent, appease the masses.
AKA, Porn. lol
It was already drafted and being discussed, I haven't heard any news yet that the Duma has voted no on it.
There's a very real chance Wolfy-Nail and every other Russian fur will be blocked from FA, if not now, then possibly in the future. This ban just brought them closer to that possibility.

*hands you 1 internet* *clap clap clap*
UN is all about the peacekeeping missions(Though they failed in some places like Rwanda) and they don't really influence the average joe with the exception of soldiers.
I mean it's not like the rest of the world recognized that Canada's banks were some of the most stable on the planet due to the sensible regulations we already had in place..
And it's not that I bitterly hate America. I was happy to serve her when i could, it's just some of the fat cats up in Congress tend to make choices based on how their paycheck is gonna look like then of the people who fight to have a voice. Most of the decisions made by congress is benefiting themselves then it is for the rest of us. That's what i hate. The country itself and most of the people are great. Just congress and it's stupidity that it has is what makes everyone hate us.
For a democracy such as the United States, I do not find it difficult to see blame on the part of all Americans for the complaints you raise. It is afterall you Americans who vote these people into Congress time after time after time.
Usually it's a case of choosing the lesser of two evils rather than the person who is best for the job... politicians have millions to spend on propaganda and fear mongering and hate while the citizens don't. So yes we definitely are to blame, but society is much more rigid and unequal than our wonderful patriotism would like people to believe.
Also I'll add my own comments; elected officials lie and the popular vote doesn't actually apply to every appointment. Unfortunately, it's gotten to be a lot more democrat vs republican rich vs poor than what's good for the nation vs what's bad for the nation.
It's sad when the houses set up to assist the president work against him and vice versa.
you obviously don't actually read what we are saying. i never explicitly said i was hating on my country therefor you sir are a grade A idiot and i would advise you use the flesh inside your skull (a.k.a. your brain) to actually think before you type/speak
it's more that it's the "cool thing" to hate america. Why is america even coming up in the first place? We weren't retarded enough to pass this law, RUSSIA is. Why not hate on russia.
but uhh.... right now we have a step up from Russia it seems that we still had the power.... to VOTE for that shit not to happen.
Be part of Russia's brain drain. Not only are you voting effectively with your feet, you're leaving Putin's Empire that much less rich.
Oh, sorry, I forgot that it's "hip and trendy" to blame everything on America.
US previously suggested law, but was shot down by government and people.
Angry furries turn journal in to a US hatefest?????
THIS DOESNT ADD UP
furrieseveryonebut you know what i like about the US?
we have the power to actually make change!
The only 'Change' that We, the People can affect is which self-serving, powermongering, Legalese-loophole-finder we want to say they're representing us.
I'm an American. I'm proud of that fact. But That doesn't mean that if i say that my country is doing something wrong, or that they started something REALLY BAD... that suddenly i'm a "Bad american and i need to leave the country. If anything Saying that Even STARTING something like SOPA/PIPA/(whatever the other one is called), and that yes, the american congress CAN be blamed for Russia adoptiong such a horrdily opressive idea... Makes me a BETTER american. because instead of just going around saying, "America's the BESTEST!" and throwing my flag in everyone's face... I'm voicing my opinion on the subject. and because it's an opinion, you can agree or disagree; that's your right and your freedom. but disagreeing with an opnionin (mine or anyone else's) doesn't give you the right to be belligerent and pull the, "if you don't like it GTFO" act. It's America! We're allowed to not like how our country is run. And short of running for congress ourselves (imagine if congress was all furries...) Voicing our opinion is the onyl way we can TRULY affect change.
tl;dr - To earn respect, be respectful.
You want change? Go out there and do it yourself, because unless we all get up off our asses and try to change the things that we disagree with, we're going to be stuck in this state for a long, long time. Voicing your opinion can only go so far, you need to get out there and do more than just complain on the internet.
I still don't understand how America is blamed for this though. Yes, we were the ones who initially started the bill. Did it pass? No. Because everyone pointed out how fucking retarded it is. Are we the only country that has considered/enforced censorship? No. There are many oppressive countries out there. Russia's the one that's oppressive enough to actually pass the bill. Did we hold a gun to their heads and tell them they better pass that bill? No, but if they did, I would like to know.
I'm not really pulling the "dont like it? leave" thing because... that's such an impossible thing to do. Not everyone has the money or means to go through the process of moving to another country, especially for such trivial reasons in the end.
Honestly, i'm happy to live here. Our government might be fucked up, but i've never been purposely mistreated myself. I was arrested once for something stupid, i sat in jail for three days before they decided to let me go. Did i freak out? nah. Honestly met some nice people in there, artists and such. Even a girl who found a way to hide tiny notes from her boyfriend in her hair so the guards wouldn't take them.
I called my brother, told him to let my work know i was stuck out of town. But besides that, it wasn't really an inconvenience.
but then again, im not really into politics. I keep tabs on whats happening. Do my best to attend polls and votings. but besides that, i think politics is just another way of getting Americans riled up about silly things^^
but srsly guys. proxies. use them.
when SOPA/PIPA happened, there were two firefox plugins to bypass them within a week.
hoooly shit, that really REALLY sucks D:
Come to America! wait...it's kinda shitty here...Go to Canada! just be sure to live near the us border so you don't have the freaking year round blizzard crap that people deep in Canada get
And being a goth Texan, I actually fit in there. I even worked with a woman with green hair in a job there.
But Texas isn't really that bad.
Thanks for clarifying that up for me xD
I'm goth, agnostic, and though I know how to use a gun, I'm very uneasy around them. Don't even have a horse and I prefer the city to the country.
It's the same media that says all furries are suit wearing sex fiends and we all know that even though there's some like that in the community, the majority's an exception.
Sure, BC as a whole is a beautiful province and is also the friendliest according to polls, but on the flip side, it's also the most expensive. Dollar stores, of course, notwithstanding.
I really hate how our government runs things and thinks it's "good for the provincial economy", or so they claim.
Actually EU just practically killed ACTA: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3621823/
If the UK government said anything, they would have voiced support for the proposal. Since the government here is also flirting with the idea of making "undesirable" online content available only through opt-in measures (The viewing of such things will have to be approved beforehand by ISPs and the state). Some parent groups worry about what effect pornography will have on their children, so instead of being responsible parents and talking with their children about it, they are lobbying the government to just remove the pornography.
Fuck people are stupid.
https://www.torproject.org/
When in doubt, Tor will be the way to go.
Tor clients are the only true way to stay anonymous. +1
Tor
Dude, everyone needs to go to a place like Canada, or maybe Japan. Lot less crazy.
That's sucky! D: I'll hope that you dun get blocked by the government!
"I don't think they'll do it, but now I have this problem and it's real."
They're using DNS block so the solution is easy, just start using a foreign DNS(like i.e. OpenDNS) or proxy instead of your ISP's own DNS and you don't need to worry about FA being blocked anymore.
*huggles you* I certainly hope this doesn't tear you and your wonderful skill away from the interwebs especially from FA too.D:
Opposition is an internet-based group, which was created to help youth see truth. (cause of course, TV & Radio are already under goverment controll) Of course Putin doesn't want to have group, shouting world-wide that he's a douchebag and needs to be replaced... so, he's trying to block our e-nets now. Brilliant move, for couple-decades old mommasboy.
Y'ARRR, comrade
Pfffh, i guess we have to deal with sh** in our homelands for a while((
So am i, sweet. so am i... That makes between us we are comrades more-less. ("comrade" doesn't mean "comunist", youknowright?)
I always wanted to move to russia but now :(
Im sorry for your conundrum
This mobile app is so buggy
Sorry for multi posts :(
cheers,
D
Слышал от моих родственников в Астане, что в Казахстане то же самое происходит...=(
You have a pretty good bunch of loyal followers. :>
that's what I did when American tried pulling that on us. I fought against Sopa and Pipa!
Remember how George Bush Jr threw comedians and protestors in prisons for terrorism.
Speaking your voice and getting caught for it in America winds you up in Gautanamo Bay if you do it when the wrong people are in charge.
That's like saying you hate bacon without the religious reason!
Wish us well, too. It is pretty much an open secret that all the information going through the internet in the USA is being harvested. This censorship is just as likely to happen here... to keep us "safe and secure".
Pretty much, a free internet.
Fuck me. :(
We are always here for you no matter what! Even though some situations arose to sort of hinder the actions you are allowed to pursue...
Always here for ya!
-C
That kinna thing (though on a smaller scale) may just happen... and the censorship law may be overturned.
buy VPN/proxy in an unfiltered country for 10-20 dollars a month, step 2 VPN into proxy. web browsing without content filtering
Option 2:
Use Tor
Option 3:
Sat based internet
Option 4:
Rent a cloud computer based computer in another country, remote into your cloud computer that lacks content filtering.
Option 5:
rent a computer in another country, remote into it, un filtered network connection
That's like saying "they block the phone number by removing the phone number from the phone book."
real IP blocking is done by configuring routers to reject traffic being sent or received from a specific IP address. Or by monitoring traffic and injecting a failed response packet to a request sent to or from a ip address you wish to block. Changing DNS will not circumvent real IP address blocking. Nor will changing your DNS server prevent them from monitoring your traffic to 'restricted' websites.
As a sidenote, I am thoroughly appalled at the amount of US hate in this comment section. From Americans themselves. You guys want to complain, go right ahead, but until you actually fight tooth and nail for change and do whatever you can to make it happen, I don't want to hear it. If you guys wanted to see change so badly, don't sit here and comment on a journal, on FA, and baw about it. Get up out of your chair, organize something, figure out how to fix these issues and then fight to get them seen. Or, you can hitchhike to Canada, Mexico, or South America if you really hate the US so much. :/ This country gives you guys a lot to live here, be grateful for what you have.
Think I got a bit off topic there, but no matter where you are, most people are discriminated against for one thing or another. I think all of us furries here on FA can understand that. But take pride in the country you live in because without it, you could be in a worse off place. The world is as you see it. If you are proud of who you are, proud of where you come from, and proud of where you are, where can you go wrong? It can only bring positive thoughts to you, whether or not people choose to judge you for it.
sorry about that tho bub, that sucks...
There are always tools and tricks for that, from a first glance, this site looks like it might be worth a shot if you need it.
However, you should be familiar with shit before it hits russia in its entirety.
But I'm honestly surprised that it took putin so long to use something like this.
Fuck politics and to hell with censorship laws. Sorry to hear this is happening to you bud :(
Btw, this ain't "old men" problems (as if someone in this ignorant country would CARE of someone's children to apply some censoreship, bla-bla... ). This is childish Medvedev and self-centered Putin playing with "their own" country, slowly pushing people back to the civil war.
Wiki-Рус вроде пока работает...
Fact is, the only ones who can fix this issue would be the people of Russia.
Unfortunately, the government is making it a lot less likely that you could get the people together to make the changes.
I don't think the Russian government was looking at what was going on here in the US. They probably looked at all of the trouble that the social networking sites were causing in places like Egypt, with dictators being overthrown.
But as many others here have pointed out. TOR and Proxies is the way to go if this becomes a problem. I hope something possitive happens to the russian political flora some day!
On america though, as an american, we really don't have any control. The only difference left between us and everyone else is our gov. still tries to wrap up their bullshit in a pretty little box, whereas most other countries just say this is how it is, fuck you. we're no better off. :(
Either that or move to the US or uh.. the UK, Hell Either or are nice.
...
oh wait, dumb question >>;;;;
Просто пугают народ и всею
-sigh- We, here in europe, just barely prevented that from happening last week.
The stupid fucks of the US goverment tryed to force us to do it coz thier SOPA thing faild.
I just have to hope that news of this doesn't reach those daft bastards in Parliament. They've got enough silly ideas about policing the internet as it is.
After all, no one's ever REALLY successfully censored the internet.
Egypt almost did by shutting it off completely, but that didn't last long.
In the end every government learns an important lesson.
When you take the people's porn....it's go time!
I hope you can stay online Nail!
Sorry to hear this Wolfy.. ;_;
I find it amusing that someone is complaining about Russia being oppressive. =D
I'm seriously annoyed (maybe offended?) by the amount of people telling you to leave your country because the internet is being censored. One GENERALLY can't just pack up their belongings and move to a completely different nation on a whim like it's a new house in a different part of a city. Even visitation visas can be difficult to acquire, let alone temporary residency and god-forbid actual immigration. It's a retarded and asinine assumption. Lots of time needed and I'm sure you've invested in a life where you are. People are ridiculous.
I guess I suggest a VPN like many other people have if they actually decided to block FA, though I highly doubt they would. It's just for political control over rival, smaller parties and "dissidents" I assume. I'm sorry to hear about it, however.
Australia also keeps trying to introduce censorship and filtering. The current government has attempted it time after time after time...
It's just likely to be too much of a bitch to enforce. They will likely only use it in full force when it comes to putting pressure on anti-government groups and the like. Rather doubt furries are high on their hit-list.
I like my country ^w^, and we have amazing beaches!
Proxy up. Get some sort of method to bypass these kinds of blocks while you still can before the shit hits the fan. I remember seeing some articles around that highlight some good ones. TOR is meant to be alright, but it isn't built for torrent traffic. I have heard of YourFreedom as well.
But I can't do without my wolfy nail arts! Can't you tell your government I need you on FA? I'm very important and such.
Find some friends who are good with networking things so you can get yourself some nice proxy or if necessary a VPN set up once required :] Accessing websites is really not a problem!
Do you actually have a weapon?
I like firearms and other weapons
Oh well, maybe some time in the future.
Yep, Russia is going backwards...
Start looking for a way around the issue now, just in case it happens later.
By the way, my thoughts go out to everyone that got caught in that horrible flash flood.
Sorry to hear of this.
why can´t i read anything about this in any newspaper?
But seriously, that's bullshit and sucks big time...
Create like.. 10 art accounts on other sites. Random sites. Post a journal with a link to each one, and then if they block FA we will know where to look. And we will know which one you use because you can post a journal on there!
I hope you dont get blocked, it would be bad for business... Good luck and may your countrymen know no fear, rise and overcome. Russian history is dramatic!
this sucks. private satellites are needed. for now, proxies and luck.
and you know it, if I ran a hostel I would totally offer you a bed and desk.
I just hope Russia isn't moving in the direction that China is. Where they feel they have to stop their people from seeing everything in the outside world.
here's hoping it pans out for the better in the end at least? :'/
...I hope not. I love your art. You're an inspiration for a lot of us.
Let's cross our fingers that it doesn't happen.
Ever.
i didn;t know you were Russian.
if need be you could set up a double account with someone.
they email you requests and commsions, and then you give them the art to post.
just an idea?
Seems like the Putin regime learned from the mistakes of the past.
Not to sound too defeatist, but we are talking about an authoritarian regime here. Wolfy doesn't need to become an activist to provoke action against him. Authoritarians dislike anything that goes against their norms (like subcultures, for example) and if they grow more repressive a crackdown may be inevitable.
Only other country that comes to mind that has this level of internet control is North Korea
Our bad, man.
So don't worry, keep your head high. You'll do fine. ^^
