we have a 3 strikes law in CA, 3 felonys you get life
so if the 2 hit and run felony charges hold along with just 1 charge out of the 4 charges of felony cruelty to animals holds, he will go to jail for life.
considering what he has done to them that is still too good for him in my opinion .__. im not implying capital punishment, just something that goes a few steps further than life in prison. no idea what that could be though^^
He should be executed. He has no regards for life or anything other then his own and that's a if considering how he acts. He gave his right to life when he stopped caring about others.
no, i dont agree at all. capital punishment should be reserved for more extreme cases. like the guy who killed a ton of people at the batman premiere? that guy deserves it a lot more.
Respectively that's your opinion, but yeah. The guy who attacked the batman premiere needs to be gone first.
As for the one that hit Gemily and Heri; he needs to go too. This time he only killed 4 dogs (bad enough in my opinion). Who's to say he won't kill someone next time? He has a blatant disregard for life other then his own. He can and most likely will kill someone.
The hit and run guy can a painless death. The shooter can crispy up a bit before dying.
I'm not a very nice person to people who enjoy harming others or don't care about the lives of others. That's something I'm not interested in changing anytime soon.
its ok, you are entitled to have your opinion just like i can have my own.
i simply think that capital punishment should be a last reserve kinda thing. if he gets locked up for good without a chance to ever get out again he wont be able to harm anyone again as well. he doesnt have to die for that.
As messed up as the actions of both men are, they are mentally-ill, not necessarily evil. Punishing their crimes by death doesn't make much sense if you so despise those who harm others... Just saying, but I do understand your position- it's just a bit too revenge-oriented in my opinion. Revenge is as violent and messed up as those who did the crimes in the first place...
There is none lol.
Random interjections here.
I believe it is more expensive to carry out capital punishment then it is for life in prison? That what I've heard at least.
Also, life in prison mean you have the rest of your life to think about your crimes. If you have any sense of morality, it should start to torture you.
In the case of their insanity, idk if they are. But some people are just genuinely evil or hateful.
I have beefs with the so-called "rehabilitation"abilities of prisons as well, actually. Caging a human being to me is a cruel "method" for teaching a better way to be a human being. In practice, it's not only massively-expensive, but it rarely does more than make a person into a life-long criminal, or simply breaks them into hopeless losers who learn to see no other way to be, except as what society has apparently painted them to be. No, neither the death-penalty, nor life-long imprisonment are the answer to crimes like these. Mind you, are we evolved enough to actually find a way to truly rehabilitate people like this? Are they really evil? Or just sick? If evil, removing them from the gene-pool may well be the best option, in terms of simple, ice-cold practicality. If simply sick, can they not be given treatment and therapy, with service to those they harmed as part of their payment for what they did? Community-oriented punishments, where they have to face the people they hurt, where they must see the realities of what they've done and how it damaged others, where they have to make reparations in the real world, with real actions, work well in the Aboriginal towns near where I'm from (Winnipeg, Manitoba).
Personally, I see prison, and, lastly, death, as extreme last-resorts, only to be used in cases where the criminal cannot be helped in any way to be a better person.
Agree to what you have said..I honestly think prison is to easy..they get a place to live that has heat and air..they get three mealsa day also get doctor visits andn dental visits-clothes-shoes-a prison store that can sell a range of candy and snacks to tv's.....
What I think he needs is work..rehab most likely would help but at what cost? Will he have any closure on the fact he killed four dogs and severely injured two humans and at that he has no remorse at all..he should have full on exposure of what he has done he should have to work the rest of his life with daily reminders..he took things that can not be given back..no amount of money can change that..
Also say he does not have life in prison say he gets out..and he still feels no remorse do you think he will not attempt to drink and drive again? Who will be next...just becuase they take his drivers licens away does not mean he will not attempt to drink and drive..he has already had 3 dui charges..does that sound like a man of change.?
I mean not to be bitter or any of the sort..I am just saddend by the fact people like him get away with so much when just sent off to prison or set to die..
I'm sorry I ranted its not against you it's just I do not believe in rehab much due to a same family experience not the killing but dealing with someone who needs to be in prison..
I wasn't offended, hon. No worries. Just arguing my position on the matter. Like you, it saddens me to see people who need help get none, and those who've done nothing wrong have horrible things happen to them. this man needs help- a LOT of it. He needs to see what he's done, understand how it hurts others and to learn not to be so selfish and self-centred... But, I also understand the realities of this current world where he'll just be given a mostly lame, expensive punishment, that, in all likelihood will teach him nothing.
Maybe I'm missing something, but I just assumed the hit and run guy had a previous DUI or something and freaked out because he couldn't afford to pay or didnt want to go to jail so drove off. That's the number one reason for abandoning hit and run sites. I hardly think panicing in a stressful situation makes someone a monster? He should have stayed, absolutely, but asking a person to be responsible for their own actions is kind of a forgotten virtue nowadays.
The guy didn't even stop. He was drunk and going 80, and said he didn't even hit anyone when he hit two people and four dogs. He also was mad that the dogs were part of his charges as they were 'just animals' I think Beastcub said. He's shown that he doesn't care for the lives he's changed, and the family he's harmed, hell, they pulled him over a night or two afterwards and he was drunk driving /again/. So what happens when he hits a person and kills them?
He needs taken off the road. (He has a suspended license too, by the way.)
The court wont see either men as mentally ill unless they plea mentally ill and even still court wont let them off with that. The court system will see them as criminals and a danger to society.
agree with 3 felonys... but still, you need a lots more money, keep a records and photos (not with flash), you need it for solictor/lawyer, need a lots of supports to exactly what happen, that driver need to be put away for very long time with 4 DUI, that law need to be change and that cannot happens again (law change for banning driving a little more tough(car are just like gun)). last thing is to keep it the whole truth.
I've read up a bit on California law, and if they give him an "X to Life" sentence, he'll be up for getting out of jail after "X" years. However, considering the damage done, and the lane change upon seeing you two cross, I'm thinking he'll just get a life sentence. Which is what I'm hoping for.
I will do what little I can to help, Beastcub. Which isn't very much, but I will be here as support if you need me. :(
Thank you for posting the update. You're incredible for how strong you are and holding together throughout this. I wish them both a quick recovery. This has been on my mind all day and yesterday after I found out.
It will all take time, strength, and lots of love. They are both so lucky to still be alive.
A close family friend lost both his legs at the knees swerving to not hit something (I think its was a flock of pink and grey cockatoos) on a country highway. Ended up as part of the dashboard in a treetrunk.
Some of the most memorable things in my childhood/early teens involved him and his fake legs.
The most memorable must be when we were vacationing with his family, and he had his legs off in the morning. His toddler was being cheeky and he ended up chasing her around the living room on his stumps. She was squeeling and they were laughing so much. It is really amazing to see how people can nurture such happiness after losing so much.
20+ years on from his accident and hes still one of the happiest people I know, running his farm, driving his tractors, goes reef fishing with my dad. Life certainly goes on and it can certainly be just as fulfilling as before, if not more so, because there is the appreciation that you could have been dead if things had panned out differently.
Im sure Hari can overcome this as well, especially with so much support and love going out to him.
One of my friends lost one of his legs at the knee, and everyone calls him "Ol One Step". He actually uses his leg when he goes out in the wilderness to pull himself up into trees and other things. Funniest thing I've ever seen him do was when I was over there and we were having a party. He pulled off his realistic leg and put on a peg leg, and an eyepatch. The ENTIRE night, he was acting like a pirate (Even made me walk the plank into a small pool he had. LOL)
So yeah. A prosthetic leg can be a burden to the one wearing it, but it can also be a gift as well. It all depends on who you are, and how you look at it.
Hehe yea, there have been many times those legs have come in handy.
The town I grew up in was quite isolated, and we had zero tollerance to Dugites. They constantly went in our bags at school and had nests under houses (most of the houses were 80-100 years old and on short stilts). At a BBQ a little one was in the yard being harrassed by the dog. There wasnt time to get a shovel. Our friend took care of it with his fake legs. The basic statement that went with him stepping on its head was "dont try this at home, kids"
last month my dad went away fishing. they were all hit by a big wave on the reef. dad ended up in hospital with torn ligaments in his legs and cuts to the bone from the reef. he was the worst off from the group. the only other request when they were taken to the nearest city... "get some allen keys so i can fix my legs"
Well, nice to know your dad has a good sense of humor! And I had never heard of a Dugite. I thought it would have been a mole-type critter. :P I see now it is a snake.
Ohh I should have elaborated, sorry.
It was common practice in the town to kill them on sight if they wont leave the area. There were no snake handlers that far out from the city and they have a particularly bad venom.
We were overrun by small furry critters, being a wheat producing town, but of the rat and mouse kind ;) which is why the snakes were there i guess XD
Glad to hear that things are getting better there now. Wishing all the best to everyone there for a good speedy recovery. I will be in touch over the coming days to helping you out.
Very pleased to hear they are both recovering at a steady pace! Even once their wounds are healed I know the emotional scars run deep. Best of luck to you, them, and their families during this difficult time!
I don't know what it is with these people..... Just last night we had a hit and run with a guy in a wheelchair hit and killed...... I'm just sick of it........
That's a blessing. Thank God they are alright ^w^
That man is on his way to pay for the mistakes he's made, and honestly, he needs to live and live wih the guilt he is going to get ten fold for this.
I've forgiven him because me being angry with him won't help in any positive vibes for your sister and her bf. This guy is going to get what's coming to him in due time.
Hari, dude, just keep heading towards your recovery....your a blessed guy and I'm more than sure that your being watched over. Gemily, same for you. We love you guys, and as soon as I can, I'm sending some money for this because it was needed. I hope things keep going on the up-and-up from this.
He has no remorse, and for that he really doesn't deserve forgiveness, but I think for me, someone who wasn't directly there and can't do much about the situation except read, give encouragement/monies to help, and pray for them, I can't stay mad at him and then use all my energy for that hate/unforgiveness towards him. Gemily, Hari, and their families need all the positivity in energy I can give them. I had to forgive him and move to do what I can for G&H and the family.
I have learned a long time ago hate wastes to much energy but disgust and not forgiving him does not because that make me not care if the man lives or dies but makes you hopeful if he does..... And if someone nudges him into the later, all the better......
Glad things are looking up, and seeing that Gemily laughed put a smile on my face. Sending prayers your way, and in high hopes that Hari can recover as best as he can.
Thank you for the update on them. Many of us here in Columbus Ohio were worried about them. Send them our regards and best wishes for a speedy recovery. I also personally will be sending a donation to the paypal account mentioned.
Posted to my Personal FaceBook...I will try and get some donations..This is horrible I am sorry for the losses and hope the man never gets out of jail...I honestly think he should be put to hard work to earn some sort of money for them...It makes me sick people are allowed to have their licens on even their FIRST DUI...If they are willing to make that choice once they are more then willing to do it again...Best wishes to you.
As someone who does a lot of work for a charity that builds homes for severely wounded soldiers, I cannot stress enough how important it is t make a home handicap accessible. It will give him back a huge feeling of independence and freedom, and lift a heavy burden (for lack of a better word) to those who have to care for him. I think the majority of the funds really need to go to making his home accessible.
I am really glad to hear the recoveries are going well, and that neither of their lives were lost.
My heart still aches about all this, always tear up when I read the news.. Such a wonderful spirit Gemily has, very strong. <3 I'm planning on doing something at IFC to bring awareness to the events, hopefully draw in some attention from anyone that can aid. God bless you and your family, I hope and pray for a swift recovery for all sweetie.
I'm so sorry that all this happened to you guys! I cried when I read all the stuff you said. I would give you every penny I had to help fix this if I had any money. I'm just so glad to hear they both are alive! Stay strong guys! We're here for you!
I saw what happened and donated what I could and I wanted to say you all have my deepest condolences and best wishes for all of you. I'm glad to see that the man who did this has been caught and I hope the courts give him what is deserved.
It's good to hear that she is being so positive though all of this. It's definitely life changing, but she is being strong and moving on with it. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to everyone.
I have not read the multitude of comments so I may be asking something that someone has already covered. But how was the suspect found? I mean his case seems pretty legit. I have no clue why or how someone with so many charges can still get around like he did. I was just wondering how someone finally caught up to him? In any case I have forwarded all of the info onto my FB in hopes that it might attract some more people who might be able to donate. It's good to hear that your sis and her BF are trying to make the best of all of this...Anyone involved is very brave.

any word on how long the driver will be put away for?

Hopefully when he's ready for a prosthesis he should check out the local veterans hospital and see if they can help point him to a good company.

And regarding that fucker driver....
I hope he rots in jail for the rest of his miserable life!
I'm sending something too.
I am really glad to hear the recoveries are going well, and that neither of their lives were lost.
Hari is definitely a hero to Gemily, & I wish them both a speedy recovery.
