Update 11 (Mascot + Other Stuff)

Hey serglets and sergalfans. The time has come I think to give us an official mascot, I think. Yes, we have a nice icon made by the awesome 
, but that is really just a generic sergal for the sake of showing this is a sergal group.
So, this journal will be about coming up with a mascot. Anyone will submit a mascot, in the following format.
Name
Coloration and features (generally this will involve two colors, and which side they go on, front of back. Some extra colors for markings are okay, but rainbow sergals probably will just be eyerolled)
Some details on what they do/how they spend their time.
These ideas will then be sifted over by a panel of judges that will include me,
, and probably another person if I can get hold of him.
Please note that while not outside the realm of possibility, submitting your own sergal as a mascot will probably not cause your idea to be taken. Additionally, a mascot that is purely sexual of fetishistic will also not be considered very closely.
When the mascot is selected, will draw us an icon of the mascot for this group. The winner will also recieve another prize or possibly prizeS, to be announced later, when the mascot decision is resolved.

I might just come up with something interesting, but that would be irrelevant if I'm too late.

Drawing skills will NOT be a factor in the judging, it is entirely on design, and a short couple of sentences describing your mascot idea is just as valid as a doodle!
The reasons we're not having voting is because of this as well. If say, a popular artist submits an image, and someone who is not well known submits a paragraph, if there was voting, people would vote for the art, just because, well, it's art. The Modhat and I have been friends for years, and know that the two of us can be mature enough to not hold a bias towards visual artists or people that we know.
In a perfect world, I would have the time and spoons to draw an icon for each submission for voting, but I work long days and often have obligations outside of work that take precedence over art.
Also, we discuss the comments here between ourselves, and very much take into account what people are saying. For example, originally it was gonna be just one mascot, but many people have spoken up about wanting two.
Not meaning to bitch here but, I feel like we all have next to no say on matters such as this. It feels arbitrary and wrong, and who is to say that you are immune to favoritism?
I have noticed a general tencency of people to rail against progress simply because it is change. They might be right, and they might be wrong. But other people in the community are into this idea, and are putting forward thier own ideas for a mascot. We're listening to everyone. If we scrapped the idea because it upsets you a bit, wouldn't that be favoritism towards you?
Name: Societas (Latin for Society)
Coloration and features: (The only thing i look at as sensible here would be a sergal who have characteristics from both Northerns and southerns) so i would say the build of a southern sergal(smaller and not that muscular) but with the fur coat of a northern sergal. the colors can be Black on the back, and Blonde on the front.
Some details on what they do/how they spend their time: Hanging out at the Bar with other sergals, training to become a better fighter and besides that mostly traveling the world to meet others.
I will add it to our list. ;D
We could have a picture of them both and have one as a warrior and the other as a farmer, to also show the variety.

I'm also making blank refsheet templates for people who want to try their hand at coloring it themselves, but I've only got a southern version up right now.
I wanna try, but... I haven't time for that. And it's too sad.

I caught myself writing out a a very long reason about why I think it would be wrong to give any race a specific mascot, I even touched base on the Olympic games and how we are it's silent mascot, but we have such a diverse range of sergals here that even the furthest poles wouldn't come close to depicting the group.
It's good idea though, great group activity.
(By the way, I think I might be thinking way too deep into this, am I?)
Sort of like how Fender represents FurAffinity, not anthropomorphic creatures in general, though I don't believe Fender was created as a contest, I believe he came pre-formed with the site. As the Sergal Collective is already a group, it only seems right to let everyone have a hand and chance in it.

Why do we need a mascot? When this group was made..."Sergal Collective" meaning a group of Sergals, like I said why do we need a mascot to represent us? All together as a whole we can represent ourselves without any kind of mascot.
Were this to be just an FA group, sure, we would not need a mascot. It's all just words and art here. But we're going to have a forum soon, and Tenyoken of all people managed to hit on a point about future plans down the comments a bit.
When we are outside of FA there must be an image that people can use to recognise the group. It could just be an insignia, but a mascot is more fun and provides community involvement.
And face it. If we let all the sergals in the group introduce themselves to strangers, they would like as not come away with an image of murring piles. You're not all like that, but don't try and deny it's there.
I don't feel like there is any point in defending something when its creator won't actually stand up for it anymore. It's like being a martyr for a lost cause. I hope that enlightens you.
I agree with you on the last part, as that is the stand I last took after trying to do things correctly for some odd amount of time. Though I will say that people should respectively learn about the sergal world, and where they originated from. A lot of famous sergals, including one you adore, do not know anything about the world of Vilous.
This mascot IS NOT a representitive of all the sergals in the group, any more than a national flag encompasses everyone living in it. It is only a symbol for the group itself. It's a pretty thing we can put on banners and tags.
Now, you can either participate in it or not, but please stop making the same irrelevant arguements against the mascot decision.
