Any good news or life driven podcasts out there? News Stream
13 years ago
I find myself growing out of the comedian/ interview format and listening to shows like (or more specifically, just...) this American Life and wonder if there are any news or real-life-story driven podcasts worth listening to.
I still listen to Nerdist and Uhh Yeah Dude but I'm kind of hoping there are more to add to my list of things to listen to to pass the time and one of the reasons why a news feed interests me is because... well... I still don't watch TV and instead of finding out through random articles and postings on whatever blog or board I happen to be lurking in I have my hopes on decent podcasts being out there keeping me up to date.
:edit:
News streams work too! Even if it's just a livestream of a television news channel I need something to break up the monotony of phoned in bits and staged comedic repartee.

In an unrelated story I saw American: The Bill Hicks story on Hulu (the person who's personality Dennis Leary chopped up and stole) and was uplifted and immediatley depressed again.

Furry lifestyling
Gaming: Idle Thumbs (Guys from Tell Tale and Double Fine), Giant Bombcast (Usually 3 hours, will discuss retro stuff and arcades!) and Cheap Ass Gamer, The Brainy Gamer (Slow to update but in depth)
Science/News/Events : Freakonomics (Economists and other scientists featured prominently), Stuff You Should Know (Short 30 min interesting discussions about random subjects with a research/science lean), The Verge (video & monthly largely about tech stuff), RadioLab , StarTalk Radio (Neil DeGrasse Tyson's show, science with a stand up comedian co-host)
Nerd Stuff: Hollywood Babble-On (Kevin Smith mostly being Kevin smith with a pal in front of an audience), Fat Man on Batman (Kevin Smith talks with folks like Mark Hamil or Adam West or Paul Dini or Tara Strong about Batman and their careers), Girl on Guy (Aisha Tyler, from Archer etc. and various comedians)
Freakonomics I'm trying out right now!
I was hesitant in bringing this one up because I don't want to spark some kind of debate here since the journal is just about, podcasts. :p Hope it's not a topic you're too sensitive about and I just upset you or something. ^_^"

Business news- Marketplace...maybe the Motley Fool has a podcast as well?
History- Mike Duncan's History of Rome, Lars Brownworth's 12 Byzantine Rulers*
*you didn't mention history, but the creators of these shows have done an excellent job in educating people through conveying passion for their subjects

Very real, very story driven, well made and very similar in a lot of respects.
