Things That Piss Me Off (Vol XI)

Welcome!
NEW ACCOUNT -
Kraest Been a while since I've done one of these, eh?
Why do people get pissed off at me when I get pissed off when people toy with my religion?
For instance, Thor and Loki. I am more so part of the Asatru than any other religion. I get pissed off when my gods are fucked with. The Marvel versions of Thor and Loki piss me right the hell off, especially Loki, because I find that I identify with him more than any other of the Aesir.
But wait! There's more!
I also get pissed off when other religions are fucked with. When people say that Islam is a religion of anger and violence, I get pissed off. When people say that Jews are all money-grubbing dirtbags, I get pissed off. When people say that the Judeo-Christian God is female (like Alanis Morisette), even though the bible says "He" and "Him" and not "Her" constantly, I get pissed off.
When people decide that the mother of one of my gods is now a man and they decide to "ship" (THE FUCKING WORD IS PAIR, GOD DAMN IT) her with her SON, I am apparently not entitled to any amount of ire.
I was told that I shouldn't be getting pissed off because people aren't doing it "my way".
It's not my way, though. It's the way of the last several thousand years. Sure there are things that change over the ages (Leviticus and, well, the rest of the old testament), but gods are gods and should be left alone.
It's about respect. People think I'm snobby for pronouncing foreign words in the proper dialect, but I do it because I respect that culture. When "Draw Muhammad Day" started a few years ago, I, even though I'm not Islamic, was still infuriated. It's disrespectful and I hate everyone who jumped on that bandwagon because they're throwing a big "fuck you!" at an entire religion.
It's all about proper respect. When there's none of it given, I'll give none in return. And I don't think I should have to respect someone who will not respect the beliefs of others.

Bitch, I don't fuck with your gods, so why should I be okay with you fucking with mine? Right? Yes, sure, I'm just going to let people walk all over my beliefs and be just fine with it.
Bitches.
At least I feel a bit better now. :)
Holy shit, did I just win an argument on the internet? D:
I'm scared and confused! ('O.o)
I do have to say, though, the stories in the Eddas are so much more powerful than the stories in the bible. In the bible, it's really just, "And this guy, who begat (insert a hundred names who begat another hundred name) did this for the Lord, because the Lord asked for it and the Lord saw that it was good because He is the Lord." In the Eddas, though, the stories are about the gods themselves. Things they did, wars they fought either with other beings or amongst themselves. The only problem is that reading through the Eddas, the Poetic Edda and the Prose Edda, the wording is just so bland that it's hard to read for too long without getting tired. lol
I've always liked Norse lore. Not the garbage from Marvel, but like... actual stuff. But I'm not really exposed to it because I pictured the Eddas being exactly as you said, bland and hard to get through. It makes you wonder if someone has done a more contemporary writing of it.
If it's their beliefs to change old beliefs, they shouldn't start reaching into other religions. Either way, what kind of "updating" would cause a god to suddenly change their gender and start going after their children? Not even Zeus did that, and he turned into a goose to impregnate someone.
You show great respect for culture and language but you don't let them step on you either and that is a difficult road to walk sometimes.
*hugs*
At least I got a few nice posts after I stopped getting those grief posts. That's something. :) *hugs*
I hear you 101%. What the hell happened to respect?
... btw, does the game "Okami" piss you off because it messes with Shinto? I mean, [b]you are playing as one of their highest goddesses portrayed as a wolf[b]. Though to be fair, they're by no means trying to say any of that is part of the actual Shinto lore - they're just making an affectionate tribute.
I'd like to hear your reasoning and thoughts, regardless.
