Rinji's Rage Rant: Pimping Your Journal?! Really?
I'm pretty certain I touched base on this before. But damn it, I need to return to this topic again real briefly!
Why...WHY does (just about) every artist feel it necessary to force everyone to "pimp their journal with one of their own, linking to said journal"? Just...WHY? Why does this have to be necessary?
Nine and a half times out of ten, there are already more entries into a raffle than a lottery sometimes even without the journals. Yes, the politically correct reason is to spread the word. But seriously, why make the odds that much harder to overcome? Why not just keep it within the watch list?
Or better yet, why not make journal advertisement optional? I can assure you that there are people who probably gladly post advertising journals for these contests/raffles. Hell, even I would be a LOT more inclined to post an advertising journal if it's of my own accord. But to do it because I have to, forget it! What you don't seem to realize is that my journal inbox lately is half filled with these "pimpin journals". But I stand by what I once said about not entering them anymore. One of the reasons is the disappointment in always losing. But my primary reason for never entering, no matter how enticing the art prize is, is because I absolutely REFUSE to fucking pimp the artist's journal! To hell with that! All it is is pointless work for the sake of making each person "work for their spot in the contest/raffle".
It already takes a fair amount of time to come up with the reference pictures and descriptions. Why make them post a journal? The best way is to make journal pimpage optional, NOT required. I'd rather commission that same artist on the spot and know 100% that I will DEFINITELY get a picture from that person.
So yes, all you artists can keep your raffles and contests. Until you stop forcing everyone to post a journal just to enter, you will never see me enter them. Oh, and let's not forget those who even go so far as to expect everyone who wishes to enter, to have them on their watch list. Is this a free art or story offer or just a cry for attention?
Oh, and I'm not the only one who feels this way about them: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3665306/
