Help Akonite! DJ gear STOLEN! :(

Today at some point during his work day, someone broke into Akonite's suite and stole all of his equipment; His computers, his hard drives, his Traktor S4, all other DJ gear.. gone.
Sadly, insurance will not cover the loss, nor his years and years of lost music he could not recover even if the equipment is replaced. His custom sets and streams from over the years were on his computers and backup drives that were taken.
He is not a wealthy man. He works nearly non-stop to pay bills for himself and still run cons like vancoufur and furtherecord and elektrofuzz events. He travels all over the world to DJ for different furry conventions and events. If you heard him DJ even once, understand how much money and time goes into him being there to entertain you. Consider a donation if nothing else as gratitude for all he has done to bring some OONTZ to the fandom!
Akonite would NEVER ask for help, but this man is as close to a brother to me than anyone I've ever known. We've been close friends since early high school. He is the last person to deserve to have such a terrible thing as this happen, and I hope some of you can help.
For those willing.. torwin has made up a paypal that is being used for donations to akonite. Most of you know me. I do not post "please donate" threads. I am today.

Akonite has posted a journal about what happened. The theives thankfully missed his laptop (in a bag) that had fallen behind a table, but he's still missing nearly all music and data that was on his desktop iMac machine. Thank you VERY much to all who have donated! We are at a point where torwin is able to make a few replacement purchases already! Thank you all for your consideration and your hard earned funds towards this cause.

As of oct 24, we are approximately $200 away from replacing Akonites iMac! Please, help us get all the way there! Thank you in particular to the generous anonymous person who gave a $750 apple store gift certificate, and the additional $500 donation from another anonymous person!!

Why does it smell to me like this wasn't just a random robbery? I mean, was anything else taken?
It is not exactly the best area of town, but there are also far worse areas. My guess is someone just lucked out and checked the window. :(
In case something does come up, make sure you're well backed-up with photos of the stolen items and pertinent details to prove ownership (dings, scratches, ID tags etc).

I really hope something turns up and somehow gets it all back! I really like his OONTZ OONTZ!
I would donate, but im not doing the best on the financial level atm. :(
Those stories are what really make my blood boil... when insurance companies 'lock-down' and refuse to pay out, hiding behind stuff like fine print and miniature little details that you're somehow expected to know.
All we can do is give whatever we can to help him rebuild, and hope things work out for the better somehow.
Now, let's think LOGICALLY. Were there there any signs of forced entry? For example: did the door appear to be kicked in/pryed open?
No forced entry would suggest that it was somebody with a key/access to his room.
Somebody he trusted.
