List: Methods of growth

You know, I love growth and giants. I also love when the growing person has an endless appetite for power and size, like he'll be ready to do anything in order to be bigger and stronger! =3
After checking several sites, stories and pics... I got an idea. Making a list! You know, we can imagine several ways to grow, this is why I'll put all the methods of growth we can imagine. Shall we start? Well... Here we go then. ^^
-Ray gun: A classic one. Get hit by a ray that change your size. It can be any type of rays, ray gun, ray from an UFO, etc...
-Potion/Pills: Another classic one. Just drink a potion , eats a pill and/or inject chemical inside your body in order to grow.
-Magic: No need to explain. A spell or a magic can enlarge you.
-Item: Something like a Mega Mushroom or a taslismant can have a growth effect on you.
-Eating too much: You just eat and eat... And eating too much can make your larger, the more you eat, the bigger you get. And that's not all... You can shove more and more stuffs inside your mouth as long you keep growing. It can also cause fattening, and voring people works as well.
-Drinking: Same as above, but this time, you just drink. It can be a specific drink like milk or something else. Of course, drinking too much can make you bloated as well.
-Inflation: A big inflation can turn you into a big and giant balloon. Right? Well, you can use helium, tanks of air, inhaling too much air, etc...
-Transformation: Sometimes, a transformation can turn you into a gigantic monster. For example, you can be a normal size human or animal. But then, something can change your apparence, it can even make you bigger and stronger.
-At will: Someone has the ability to grow whenever he wants and no one will stop him.
-Working out/Flexing: For muscles lovers. You can work out, flex to make your muscles bigger and larger. You can even get a growth spurt.
-Stealing size: Someone can stole energy from a person, growing himself and shrinking his victim.
-Absorbtion: He can absorb something and/or someone, as well as all kind of energy or a specific one. For example, a Pikachu can absorb too much electricity, or a Bulbasaur can absorb too much energy sun, etc...
-Full moon: Watching a full moon can be interesting. But what if you were a weregiant? Yup! That's right, watch the full moon and becomes a giant.
-Worshipping: A master give orders to a slave to satisfy himself, feeding, clean feet/paws, etc... And each time the slave finishes a task, his master will grow bigger and stronger.
-Sacrifice/Ritual: When you want to act like a god, you can do a ritual or a sacrifice. It can be any kind of sacrifice, people, animals, etc... When you do that, you can get a growth spurt in exchange.
-Domination: A dominant character can torture a person, hurting him and doing whatever he wants to him. If his victim is scared because of him, he will have a growth spurt. Yup, his victim's fear can feed him with more power.
-Learning move: Mostly for Pokémon too. Here the thing... When a Pokémon train, he can learns new moves. Of course, he can only learn 4 moves. Right? But what if we break this rule? Yeah... He can learn more than 4 moves, and why not learning every moves? So... The more you know moves, the bigger you get. >=3
-Endless evolution: My idea was for Pokémon, but it can happen to any specie then. An evolution is like a transformation. But if he keeps evolving, again... And again? Yeah. For example, a Bulbasaur can evolve into an Ivysaur, and then after, into a Venusaur. But... What if Venusaur had a new evolution? Well, he'll simply transform again, and he'll grow bigger and stronger as well! And his evolution can continue, like... It will nevers ends! He'll just keep growing and transforming.
-Stomp: That word... It involves large feet/paws. Crushing someone like a bug can make you feel dominant. And a growth spurt can happen when you stomp someone. And as you grow, your feet/paws will be obviously larger as well.
-Happiness: The happier you are, the bigger you get.
-Fusion: Two persons combine powers to get one and grow in their size and power.
-Natural growth: When you start with a small size, you'll probably need to wait days, months or maybe years. And as time passes, you grow slowly bigger each day. For example, you can be a small creature or child, and at the end, you become a giant adult, reaching your full and gigantic size.
-Winning a battle: Mostly for Pokémon. When a Pokémon wins against another one, he will get a growth spurt as reward.
-Growing like a plant: This idea can work to every kind of plants, flowers, etc... It can work on Grass Type Pokémon too. For example, a Treecko can bury himself and let just his head outside. And then, rain, water and sun will make bigger and stronger. Just like a plant. You get it? ^^
-Revenge/Killing: Everyone hates you? And you wanna kill them all? Well, get your revenge, kill someone and grow.
-Absorbing data: For Digimon, they can absorb data, remember. So, the more they'll get data, the bigger they'll get.
-Greed: Based on the episode "Secret of my Excess" on MLP. If you checked this episode, you could see Spike growing bigger and becoming greedier as well. The more stuffs he grabs, the greedier he is, the bigger he gets!
-Love: Mostly for gentle giants. When a character is loved by everyone, he will have a growth spurt. More he'll get love, more he will grow.
-Grateful: If you help someone, he can thanks you. And when someone has a grateful for you, you'll grow as a reward.
-Infected: Something or a strange creature can have a virus or something like that. And being bitten or getting hit by something, you'll be infected and it can make you bigger.
-Perfume: Smelling a strange odor can have special effect like growth.
-Kiss: A good kiss can have some effects like a growth spurt.
-In peril: Remember "Bowser's Inside Story"? When Bowser was in danger, he could become a giant. But what if it was permanent this time, and without help from inside? So... Yeah. Be in danger and grow larger.
-Musical growth: Growth caused by listen to a specially composed melody (related growth methods: magic).
-Hypnosis growth: Somebody else mindcontrols your body's growth through hypnosis powers (related growth methods: magic).
-Mechanical growth/Upgrade: Deticated to machines/robots; usage of other materials to grow in size and to get stronger (related growth methods: fusion, absorption, items, transformations).
-Growth books/stories: A written piece that causes growth when it gets read(related growth methods: magic, items).
-Video Game Achievement growth: A reward for beting levels in a special video game that causes growth on the player for fulfilling tasks inside the game (related growth methods: rays, items, magic).
Well, that's all I can think for now. I had other ideas but thoses are adults ones, and since there are sometimes young people... Well, I can't really tell my ideas then, only in private then.

For example my dearest dream of growth would be the exact opposite of the revenge and hurting thing. It would be wonderful if I could grow an inch for everytime somene would say "Thank you!" to me. On that way I know my size is a reward for being a good dile. *tailwags* X3
Also other love-based growth would be sweet. Just think of getting a hug or cuddle causes you to get a lil bit bigger. (-^.=.^-)
About the pills and potions you shouldn't forget how those can be in form of natural things: For example eat a macro apple or specific berries and you grow.
Also, evolution works for Digimon as Digivolution as well. Some also call transformation mutation themselves. =3
As for magic you should also think about magical necklaces, stones, enchanted seals, chrystals, formulas, ribbons and many other things that can contain the magic. =D
And yes, as you can see, I'm pretty evil. I love when people are greedy, like they always need more powers and size. ^^;
Speaking of greed, I forgot this idea too.
Umm, I guess in all the manners of growth there also belong in all those hyper stuffs like people getting huge from getting aroused.

Tehehe, I like those special items from games like the Mega Mushroom from Super Mario who causes getting bigger. =3
In Pokémon there also is the item Full Incense that causes Pokémon to feel bloated so we see not just magic or eating stuffs can cause growth but also specific scents and such. I saw a frowth seres by SammySaphire once in which he used a perfume to get bigger. (-^.=.^-)
A good way to growth could be sheer happiness. The happier you get the bigger you grow. =D
Also... Yeah. An item can definitely make someone bigger, it's still a classic one though.
And perfume growth is definitely interesting. =)

Or a kind of mind control over the body growth with hypnosis growth!
You could also use growth as somekind of allergic reaction to something as like if someone gets in contact with a specific substance it tends to cause growth.
There also can be somekind of upgrade growth if you are a machine. As like a robot that can add more materials or simply can combine with other robots to get bigger.
And if it comes to the music part ther also might be books that can make you grow when you read them maybe. But that could lead back to magical rituals probably.
I always loved the ideas of video games that make you grow though, too. (-^.=.^-)

nessessary growth The character grows whenever its is needed that they be bigger. This is somewhat like the danger growth option but more for when others are in danger rather they than the character. Most growths series use it at one point or another even if they don't admit it. For example: Godzilla attacks, godzilla sized effra; volcano erupts, several miles of effra leech seeds the lava away; The nation is under attack, the enemy can't get in because theirs a giant effra on stop; the moon has been eaten by a giant raticates, effra grows to replace it; the planet is trashed, move to planet effra which is much nicer.
continuing childhood growth The growth rates of childhood continue far longer then they should, usually slow.
Radiation radiation makes things big, more radiation makes things more big, nukes that is much further, after that its space stuff. A classic growth method.
Quantum leaper/universe changing You are suddenly in a universe where the critter was always this big, what else has changed?
Popularity/democratic growth the move people believe in a leader and the more then beleive in him the bigger it gets. This could lead to the ineveritable battle between giant turtle bearnie sanders and not as giant dolphin donald trump
Pacifist growth this super duper friendly creatures simply gets bigger and stronger the more you attack it. This leads to bigger and more desperate attacks to kill it for go this time seriously, it didn't work the last 47 times but it will this one.
rage anger makes them big, anger and growth are both addictive
random size changes for some reason or another (glitch in pokeball, mad gods, broken nanotech, natural sizeshifter gets a cold) the characters sizes begins to change utterly at random. When these stages occurs could be regular, triggered, self induced, caused by another, plot driven or random (e.g. every second has a 1 in 10 000 chance of a size shift occuring). When the changes to occur they are utterly random in a mathematical sense (i.e. the probablities are known). I've knocked off program to ensure true randomness.

solar powered Exposure to sunlight makes the thingy grow. This make most sense of plant based creatures. As bigger things have more surface area the growth automatically compounds itself. Growing cosmic and touching the sun speeds it up again, eating the sun speeds it up more, other suns drive it all the way to universal or more.
soul power Absorbing souls leads to growth. As undertale told us even one is enough to make you nigh invincible and the effect might be expotiental. While this more easily fits with rampaging beast who kills everyone and steals their souls depending on what the character does with the souls it good also be a good character
swarm The character is made of gazillions of itself linked by a hivemind of sorts. These can combine together into a megaform. The more mini-me's are made the bigger the megaform can be. With gazillions of brains the creatures is smart enough to think of ways to keep growing. Allow simulataneous interaction on muliple scales
hacking Work for digital beings only or beings in a simulated world. Someone hacks the data of a being and rewrites the bit about now big they are. The hacker could be anyone. More hacking can make it as violent (or not) as the story needs.
revert to huge the character is a being that is natural huge, really really huge, at least compared to what the story starts with. Maybe a being from universe or a few "up" or someone from our scale visiting an "electrons are planets" sort of place. For some reason, maybe deliberate maybe not, they start to return to their normal size.
Genesis Growth The character has the ability to create/resurrect life. It turns out that the more life they create and the more complext and diverse it is the bigger they get. Also as they get bigger their life giving skills become bigger and more ambitious and more capable of breaking the possible. Once they get huge their body becomes its own ecosystems or even contains beings that contain beings that contain beings that contain their own ecosystems. While this method firstly leans towards friendly giants if a bit of sadists creatively infinite and unbounded evil could occur. saint growth If the character is good they grow and if they are bad they shrink. The reverse could work to.
Hmm... Someday, I hope I'll have enough motivation to write some more chapters for my growth stories~ I wouldn't mind to do some collabs as well. ^^

It choose 72, Tentacool. One of the lesser used one so we'll be doing stuff that hasn't been done before. A few methods of growth occur.
1. Toxic waste, Pretty much like the anime episode, but with more bigness.
2. Size stealing poision
3. Water absorption, perhaps following it getting stranded on a beach and so really really thirsty
4. The swarm method, theirs just so many of them in the games.
5. A method by which a single tentacool (or a small group) lead a band of them to do something or another (possibly take over the world) and the more them join the band the bigger the leader(s) become.
If that doesn't work we could roll again, randomness is fun.
But currently, my ideas are mostly focusing on a growing Bulbasaur for now. :3
Well, so far, the ideas that are coming in my mind so far are thoses. A Bulbasaur turning into a huge and growing dark dragon~ Or friend also suggested me that idea, a Bulbasaur turning into a big growing blob as well~ So many ideas~ So many~ ^^

conquest growth The more land you conquer the bigger you get. Getting bigger makes it easier to conquer more land and so getting even bigger. This continues until you end up being a world conquering gigamacro. It might not even end there. If you want giant monster battles, and why wouldn't you, you can make it so the other leaders you have to fight have the same power.
Knowledge Knowledge is power, literally. The more a character learns the bigger and smarter they becomes. Then they can learn more and get bigger and so on. This leans heavily towards a more gentle style as something has to be intact for you to learn from it.
Level up How do rpg characters get stronger every time they level up. They get bigger of course. Once they get bigger they can fight bigger things to level up again, repeat until huge enough. You could also have evolutions come in once they have gained enough levels, which bring with them massive size boosts.
Cleaning up Set in a trash covered world like in wall-e. A blubasaur, who is probably part robot to boot, has volunteered to stay behind to clean it up using his plant powers. He learns that cleaning up the place gives him a size boost. How he can clean faster. Humanity can get to return to two prestine planets.
Pride Someone is so prideful their body cannot contain it, so they grow. This only reinforces their megalomania.
Wereplanet When someone visits a new planet they they pick up an infection that will turn them into a wereplanet. There are also werestars, weregalaxies and wereuniverses.
Rapture For some reason the universe is doomed. Some has been imbued to more to get people out of their. The more people they exvacuate onto their giant selves the bigger they become until they can finally save everyone in the universe.
The "Level up" idea... Well, I already had some thoughts about it~ Starting at level 1... fighting... level up... more growth! Also, a certain game called "Clicker Heroes" is certainly giving my ideas with the Ascension and Transcendance options. Like restarting at level 1 but having some extra bonuses this time, like we can level up faster for example~ And so on~ X3
As for the "Wereplanet" idea... Mmmmmm~ I'm really... really intrigued about it~ Mind if you could give me a few more details about it please? ^^
In any case, someday, I'm gonna need to get back some motivation to write again. I wonder what kind of growth story should I write then? It could be something based on a certain game called "Clicker Heroes~" Oh yeah~ With big big and crazy infinite numbers~ Not to mention we can also include Ascension and Transcendance as well~ X3

I like it because it has an story of sorts, a historical narrative of the exploration colonisation and conquest of space up to the entire galaxy. It more importantly has an end, something these games lack for microtransaction reasons. It provides the sort of cartharis and sense of finishing that these games lack by design. You can transfers your addiction to this game, finish it then be free without regrets, it worked for me anyway.
It stars a single scout ship and its pilot. As they as going on the first ever spaceflight Trigintillions of time transcending energy beings turn up and possess the pilot and this ship. They enhance them both making them bigger stronger faster smart and bigger twelve more times. It then goes though all the events of the game with the ever growing ship and pilot and singlehandly conquers the galaxy growing so big they can use it as a dashboard ornament.
But yeah, anyway... Any game can still bring inspiration for future stories anyway. ^^

Maguffins - Spread thoughout the cosmos are artefacts of incredible power. If someone can gain one of them the gain the power to grow ten times as big, amoungst other powers, if they gain two they can grow a hundred times as big, and so on.
Generational - Something has children that are bigger then it. Then it has children that are bigger then it only for them to be outgrow my their own children. This continues.
Pack - The more members are in a pack of something the bigger each member of the pack grows. You could also have variety in size within the pack with alphas/ broodmothers being the largest.
Growth effects the universe - shameless stolen from the writing.com story by J-Fox. Something is grown and histroy is changed so that it has always been that way. If done right a whole bunch of other things change too.
Well, I kinda wish I had more growy chapters for my Pokémon Growth Story. But currently, quite distracted with Pokémon Sun. =)
Soulmate - Every sapient being in the universe has one choosen soulmate. This soulmate could be anywhere in time and place, it could also be of any species. As such beings meeting their soulmate is very rare. Most universes go though their whole history without this happening. If they do somehow meet they fallen in something a couple of levels above love. An interaction between the two of them makes them both bigger, the more affection this action has the bigger the growth spurt. There is no know limit to this. These beings usually become dual god emperors of their home universe, for starters.
Views - The more views a character gets on youtube and other sites the bigger they become. They then use there bigness to get more view with hit videos such as "which state has the tastiest capital," "giving iceland a summer vacation" (where you pick up iceland and more it somewhere sunnier," "lets give the earth another moon," "how to use a supermassive blackhole to get crumbs from out of your laptop keyboards" and "one million lightyears tall Q and A". Things really start to pick up when she turns up and the pan universal Q-Net.
Reincarnation - Whenever the grower dies it comes back bigger.

Since this is taking place in a world were monsters and stuff and grow huge for reasons their will be plenty of ever bigger things to suck ever larger amounts of blood and size from.
Touch - If something(s) is touched by someone or some group it grows. I think it has more potental if the touchees slowly shrink down, as this means they can grow through the more fun bits again without growee ending up so big they have nothing left to interact with or even that they can see.

You can have on person with the growth touch and it works on all sorts of stuff. All animals, trees, microbes, mushrooms, pokemon whatever is most fun. Mix it with brings stuff to life for even more fun.
One person with the touch which only works on one other creature. This leads to a more traditional roleplay sort of thing.
They could also mutually grow each other.
You could have several pairs that compete or cooperate
A single or small group of beings are grown when they are touched by either all humans or any creature ever. Ends up like a writting.com story.
Unstoppable and inexplicable exponential growth - For a reason that it either never given or is an obvious ass pull a creature begins to grow at a fixed exponential rate. In this story the character always sticks to the same growth rate. You get their size at a certain time off a spread sheet. A fast growth rate with growths every second or minutes end up like this thing

A slower version of the this growth which gives characters and the world time to react is much more narratively interesting as their is time for characters to actually react to it. An example of is cant stop growing kangaroos never stop growing series. I think this is more intesting with a characters that isn't the the standard egotistic selfish sadist nihilist asshole that you usually get it growth stories.
Catch them all - Someone goes out to catch every type of pokemon. They discovers that all the pokemon that they catch gain the ability change their size. The trainers discovers that max size that their pokemon can grow to increases exponentally with each new species of pokemon you catch/breed/evolve. To keep things interesting at least a few other trainers have this power.
Recombine - A character spilts into multiple smaller version of itself. These parts can grow faster when they are seperate. When they grow big enough they can combine together again into a huge version of themselves. They then can do it again, and again and AGAIN.
e.g. Religion that worships a giant bulbasaur. Pope gets vine whips and the ability to fire solar lazers.
Spice it up by having other religions too.
Attention growth - Paying any attention at all to this creature makes it grow. More attentions from more people means more and faster growth. After kaiju size is reached things get quite easy (for creature, not for anything else).
Promotion - The character joins some sort of pan universal organisation at the lowest level. They work both hard and smart and get promoted. With each promotion comes a massive boost and size responsiblity and power. The character climbs the ladder and it is a very tall ladder indeed.
The most obvious organisation to this with is a miltary. It would be more interesting (of me at least) with it was a more defensive miltary with a focus and on huge engineering projects.
A corporation would be the most flexible option especially if the company is an even more powerful and less ethical east india company.
A civil service would be my favourite option though.
Being teased and aroused, and acting on that arousal, every stroke or pleasant caress swelling you larger. Or in a battle, every blow you take bumps you up in size and strength.
Ego boosts, not necessarily worship, but just compliments, when people make you feel good about your size you get even bigger.
Growth by trigger words are good too. Whenever someone says how big you are, or claims you're growing, that only makes it worse. And soon many more people will be talking about just how huge, mighty, looming, imposing, powerful you are.
One someone pitched to me recently involved never ending growth that could only be willed to stop.
Royal jelly - If some Royal Jelly turns a worker bee into a big Queen bee more of it turns her into a bigger Queen bee. With lots you end up with kaiju Queen bee and it doesn't have to stop there, or ever. Since a bigger Queen can lay more subjects, especially with the help of ever more ranks of sub queens and subsubqueens there is plenty of Jelly to be eaten. It might also work on things that aren't bees.
But yeah~ I love gathering thoughts and ideas and there is always room for more! >:3
Aside from goo, there's also spider webs where you can wrap around your prey with it. With the web being like a wire that is connected to you, the stuff of growth passes through the web and into you.
