Scream...
Some people have got their knickers in a knot regarding the election. Threatening to either secede or move to another country. To me, this just reminds me of crying little brat who doesn't get their way. Here's my take on recent events.

For the past twenty years California been trying tobceom two seperate states .
The irony of all that is that it is illegal by constitutional law for the federal government to carve up states or remove them from the union. The founders wrote that into the constitution and were explicit (they wanted to avoid majorities in congress or Presidents from stacking the deck by shifting the numbers of states around). Technically West Virginia is not supposed to exist. It was formed of the section of Virginia that refused to follow the confederates and instead supported the union, due to local animosity towards the rest of Virginia. In return for that loyalty congress voted to make it into its own state. Virginia tried to sue after the war to reincorporate (fearing the added power West Virginia had in the Senate and House... and their fears were proven right for a generation West Virginia's politicos acted to hinder Virginia in every way possible) but the Supreme Court refused to hear the case.
Now a state internally can technically vote to break itself up or seceded from the union. Technically you need a plebiscite majority of over 60% agreeing to the exact lines of the state. It has never happened because no one has been able to agree on the exact lines for a majority vote like that.
As for seceding while the power might technically exist the Civil War showed the Union does not accept that sort of withdraw, or more accurately they would not give up military bases and federal holdings within the states that had seceded. This led to the shots being fired on Fort Sumner which sparked the official reasons for the Civil War.There is currently no known method for a state to remove itself from the Union as the Federal government would have to agree to give up its holdings. So not only would a state's populace have to agree by majority to remove itself in a fair election but the Federal Government has to agree to give up its holdings. Something that has never happened.
As for California originally when the delegation arrived in DC to turn California into a state they had a map that also included Baja California. Congress drew up a map to turn it into three states and slice off a section of its eastern side and give that to the Nevada Territory. California's delegation then politely informed congress that if they did not have their map they would form their own country instead of becoming a state. Congress fearing the loss of gold and the western coast being lost to a new nation compromised. In return for giving up claims on Baja California (which the USA did not want to start a war for with Mexico so soon after the last one) they become one state and were given a number of added perks and services from Congress to sweeten the deal (investments in roads, military bases, and lighter taxation for a few decades) and make sure they wouldn't become their own country
