My sister needs surgery
A while back I posted a journal stating my sister may need surgery, I took it down because I did not want to cause worry in case she did not need surgery...
Well she does in fact need surgery :(
In the middle of December my sister Wolfgem will be undergoing a bone graft operation, waiting any longer to see if the large gap in the shattered bone can heal on its own could cause irreparable harm to her leg.
This surgery is yet another setback in both her physical and emotional recovery, she is extremely anxious about going back under the knife (and frankly so am I, I feel like everything that could go wrong has gone wrong) and she will be faced with a new era of pain (and thus will likely be unable to quadsuit come FC) but she has no choice.
Considering we are facing yet another unexpected cost on the road to her recovery I am planning on auctioning off a guaranteed spot on my commission list.
This is something I have seen fursuit makers do before (heck even Mixed Candy is doing so for a head right now) and considering the circumstances it sounds like a good idea. I have never felt comfortable with asking for money, but this way I am just taking a new customer now vs later, simply adding said customer to my list differently than I normally do it.
I normally take only 6-12 orders a year and those are of my pick and I generally pick more challenging/unusual designs and species choices, leaving the likes of poor foxes and huskies high and dry...but this spot will be for whatever suit design you desire (within my usual rules, namely no copyrighted characters and no yiff suits) if this interests you then start saving up :D
I may be holding this auction as soon as next week, or I may wait until after Christmas, or even after FC... I am unsure (feel free to comment on when I should hold the auction)
The auction will be done via journal comments here on FA.
The fursuit will be completed within 2 years, for the winner there will be a minimum of $700 up front and within a week of auction end, 12 months allowed for the rest (the $700 is part of the total cost not in addition to the winning bid)
The starting bid, I am considering $700, that gets a fursuit head, as the bid reaches halfsuit and then fullsuit cost the winner can receive a halfsuit, fullsuit, possibly even a quadsuit if the bidding goes high enough.
For those not interested in a fursuit there is actually a fundraiser that was offered to my family by the folks behind The Furry End of the World party, this convention fundraiser will take place not long after her surgery. More information here

I wish her all the good luck with the surgery, and hopefully you get a couple of people interested in your slots :)
Hope it helps.

My Prayers go out to Gem hun!!
Remember that this is still a pretty recent wound, do not ever try to stress or speed up the recovery. surgery can be a very VERY scary thing, but remember that time will heal all wounds.. mentally and physically. I wish her luck, and I know that fursuit auction will go soo high because your suits are AMAZING! i wish her the best of luck!
Im going to be paying you a huge amount pretty soon! Ive been savoing just not at the point yet where i can send.
Good luck!
Can't wait to get started on your suit <3
Hopefully by the end of this month, middle of Decemeber i will be sending you some funds.
(Alot of family stuff with me and my mate happened and christmas is soon so ive been really lacking on sending money too you, so dont worry, money is a coming your way!)
Thank you for the kind words
But she should do just fine.
I think we both know exactly how the other feels :S
Additionally she may be able to request equipment to monitor her brain activity, such is the norm within my family now-a-days. In this situation even if the anesthesia fails to work, the doctors will know.
Gets you both the christmas money ones and lets people save from now to put in a bid. :)
BTW, IMHO you might as well start the process earlier as later. This close to December you'll be taking a part of somebody's Christmas money one way or another, might as well give the bidders time to budget for it.
I am thinking doing the auction starting on the 1st of Jan maybe. That way I give folks a bit over a month to set aside some paychecks :)
The convention is a shimmering light of happy in this pool of less-than-happy she has been dealing with, FC is something she is dearly looking forward to attending, even though she will be on crutches and unable to do what she loves most at cons, that being quadsuiting.
Best of luck to your family with the surgery. If she will be forced to use crutches or a wheelchair, maybe you could whip up something to decorate it for her?
I would need $700 within a week and the remaining $300 within a year.
I was thinking of making paws for her crutches X3
You are in my prayers and I do hope something good comes you guys way!
Best of luck BC!
When the auction comes around I'll advertise it for you since I can't participate ^^
*digs through dragon hoard for more funds!*
If you can't afford to donate money but would like to contribute anyway, we are also taking auction items. Artwork, commissions, or furry merchandise... anything we can convert into cash to help Gem.
Please be generous, and thank-you!
