Character Spotlight: The Hoyle Girls (Spades & Roulette)
Well, to begin on the story of this dynamic duo, we'll have to start with the oldest and work out way down.
Spades Hoyle is the Heiress of the Hoyle Fortune (as in, Hoyle Cards....yeah!)
Her parents were Kino and Blackjack Hoyle. She, and her siblings were all born in Las Vegas, and for many years the VERY large family had lived there happily growing (or gambling, winning and loosing) their fortune.
Spades is the oldest of the girls, whom also has Diamonds, Clubs, and Hearts.
Spades was always the one whom was most 'down to earth' and didn't really need or want a lot of fancy things, and while she gambled she wasn't a degenerate (it was merely a pastime the family did together). Of the four sisters, she made the most 'real' friends - including one skunk of similar age that came to Vegas for a short while - to explore life. Seems as if that skunk got pregnant and went back home to the mid west...
Di was very 'un fun' and grew up to be the family accountant and a trustee. If you ever meet the Hoyles in court, then you'll be looking down the double-barreled shotgun look of Diamonds.
Clubs was one of those girls that got swept up into the whole weave of Vegas. Gambling, drinking, whoring, partying - she unfortunately died at the age of 22, which really made Spades move out on her own.
And there is Hearts. Hearts is still in Vegas, and is the mistress of the best little cat house in the area. She's got Di to work her books, and a lifetime of practice. She's even gotten some cosmetic surgery to her nipples to get her areola's to be heart shaped (a simple procedure).
Now being wolves they have a lot of traditions and instincts - one of which was, after a certain age... all the females of the family get a tattoo. This generation above got their suits, tattoo'd rather largely over their crotch. Kino had a winning kino-card tattoo'd over her there too.
Spades also had 5 brothers!
Her oldest brother, Ace is tall, strong, handsome, and unfortunately dumb as a post. It was thanks to Ace that the family is mostly broken up, and his pride is what keeps him from really leading the family back into Vegas Royalty (as they once were when Blackjack was in charge)
King is the older (to everyone but Ace and Spades) brother that the rest of the family actually looks up to. He's strong of will and conviction, not to mention of body. But he's largely silent, preferring to keep his thoughts and opinions to himself. However, being a younger brother he bends to the will of Ace.
Queen is, while also unfortunately named, very aptly named as being one of the most flamboyant homosexuals in Las Vegas. He manlyness, in himself and others. And while he may have little affection for most 'girly' things - he does love his sisters, and often was 'one of the girls' growing up. Heck, he does makup better then Spades ever will.
And then there are the twins - Jack and Joker. The two boys were always getting into trouble (if it was a prank or something silly, then it was Jokers doing. If it ended with a fight or revenge, then it was Jack's plan.) Being the youngest in the family they were mothered and often got away with murder. Blackjack was more stern with them, when he heard about their antics.
By age they are
Ace - Spades - King - Diamonds - Queen - Hearts - Jack and Joker - Clubs
However, that's just how things got started.
As mentioned above, Clubs lived fast and died young - and that really hurt the Hoyle pack. Spades had decided that while she loved her family and Las Vegas, she needed a change. So, she went for a bit of a wander.
Her wandering brought her to the United States Northern country... to Montana. Now, back in the day there were "land grabs" - the government would put up miles and miles of land as a singled squared off area. Well, the people that started the city of "Nowhere" Montana had grabbed up the land.. but really only built up in one corner (Near where the river, road, and railways were).
Well, when Spades got there she got herself a plow, a permit, and a couple of farm hands - and moved to the Geographical Center of "Nowhere Montana" - every year her Christmas card reads something like "Seasons Greetings, from the middle of Nowhere"
Since then, Spades has happily been a rancher. The simple country life has made her strong, and happy.
A few years back now, she got it into her head to get herself a little more family. She had heard her sisters were having pups, and were happy doing so (her Nieces and Nephews include: Pokino, Domino, Bingo. There is also Gin, Rummy, and Martin(y)). So, she found herself a willing fellow black wolf (a seasonal farm hand that wishes to remain an anonymous sperm-doner) - and little Roulette was born.
Thankfully a farm environment is very much like a small town or a loose family - so she had plenty of help, but still raised her little girl her way. Rou grew up knowing fresh air, honest labor, and wide open spaces instead of the glitz and glam of Las Vegas (not that she's never visited - the Hoyles have a reunion every year, either the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day). She's seen as the Country Cousin, and she sees them as the 'citified' family.
Roulette is now growing up to be a fine young woman. Raised right with good morals, and thanks to the ranch doing well, she's enjoyed many modern amenities (Spades and Rou do enjoy a good night of xBox gaming). In true family tradition, she too was tattooed - a slice of a Roulette wheel. Some traditions are just too good to break, right? Besides, it family.
