One piece of AC advice for 1st timers....

In life, The People are represented by two separate yet equally important groups:
The Fates, who investigate all the possible alternatives to 'Joy';
and the forces of Chaos, who defile the fabric of The Tapestry Of Life.
These are my stories.....

I learned a lot about what to expect and what to plan for from
's journals last year (AC07). Read those first and then come back here:
* How to survive a furry con - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/145324/
* Convention survival guide part II - http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/151467/
Done? Ok.. Now, here's something from ME that'll seem odd, but go with me on this.....
When you go to a con (doesn't matter which one), remember that the vendors and artists there are operating a business first and foremost. Yes, it's GREAT to be able to meet them (trust me, I was rather overwhelmed getting to meet a LOT of these folks first-hand), but they are there as business people first.
If they're working / selling things / talking with someone already about a commission or a product or speaking with ConStaff, give them time to do it. Be patient. They aren't going anywhere and they know you're there. If they try to interrupt someone they're already talking to to tend to you, tell them to finish up first.
Seriously... Good manners go a LONG way to making people WANT to give you an extra minute of their time after.
Once you have your chance with them, put out your hand and give a firm handshake and, before anything else, THANK them for sharing their time and talents with you.
Again, its not just good manners, but you have to remember - these people (artist and non-so-artistic alike) share a part of themselves, even if it's just comments and insights posted on a comment board.
They don't HAVE to... they CHOOSE to! That deserves some gratitude - a simple handshake and a 'Thank You' mean a hell of a lot to folks. Seriously.
OH, yeah.... and if you DO buy something from an artist, consider paying an extra dollar; JUST a dollar. Why? Simple! Consider a waiter/waitress' tip - the 'double the tax' rule here for me puts a BASELINE tip at 16%. If you get a $10 sketch, $1 is a 10% tip.
Come on... you know what a waiter/waitress would say about you for leaving a freekin' 10% tip? (never mind what you might find your food flavoured with the next time you went in to eat with him/her!)
And really.... what's an extra dollar? You'll be spending a LOT of money at the con already just getting in and parking and gas and lodging and food and.....
What does it all come down to, then? Simple....
Go the extra niceness mile - be considerate - use good manners.....
So.. here's to the folks I met last year - thank you, and hope to see you THIS year!

i'm a self sacrificing guy i gave so much to make some emotional loser happy...but in the end...they talked trash about me on there journal when the con is all done and over with...saying i destroyed there life? i'm selfish? i'm a heartless monster...thats what an ex friend said about me last year...
and bunch of fools blindly follow her lies...if i were to rip my left arm off and toss it to help save someone in some form or way...they'll just spit right in my eye....
i'm sorry if i seem mean and rude or sending negative energy or whatever anyone believes but sometimes reality is the most disappointing kind...
i hope you have another good time this year...
..but you start in calling me 'Fat' and we'll have words, Mister.
Seriously, yes.. there ARE people out there that you can never seem to satisfy. Unfortunately. But they are usually in the minority... just vocal is all. (*Grrr!*)
...no, really. I have a bottle from my grandparent's condo... no idea if the stuff is any good. Tastes like paint thinner to me.
..trouble is, I couldn;t tell you when it was from. it was in my grandparent's condo for a LONG time before I got it... and I hardly drink.
and two cute awesome artists
UV is the one i regret most missing rare rare visit to the USA
--pitty I didn't get to follow a single one of them though.....
Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Good manners DO go a long way. It also works in reverse. I've seen some artists be kinda cold and condescending when they should just as well be friendly.
You might want to mention to folks not to put their bags on a dealer's table while they peruse through the goodies at another dealer's table. That's happened to me a couple time, and that is highly annoying. :)
The whole interrupting thing really gets on my nerves, and sadly, I have some friends that do it to me when I'm in the middle of saying something.
You won't be going to MFM, by chance, will you?
-D!
Right now, I don't have any con plans of any kind - other than the screaming desire to go to AC'10 NOW!!!
...once I have my Suit fixed up.
Why'd they move AC from Philly to Pittsburgh?
Are Pittsburgh cheese steak sandwiches good as Philly cheesesteaks!?
And...what sort of costume are you planning? Is it a giant ball of fur? You know, because Tribbles are...giant balls of fur.
*throws a Klingon at you to see your reaction*
...and funny trhat you should ask about Suits and Klingons.....
Ooops! Lookit the time! I simply MUST get that Collage picture done.....
Well, if I can go and you have a sketchpad next year, throw it at me (for you, I'll cut a deal on commission) and I'll put Tribbles and stuff in it.
If you go to MFM (Memphis, Tenn/Labor Day weekend) I'll be there more than likely.
