Mate is something different in most standards. Mate essentially means girlfriend/boyfriend. Because those are people you mate with and court. Being married is a more respected term I believe. I would call some one my mate if I were simply just.. mating with them, having sex with them, not.. loving them and married to them for eternity. o.o; I mean I simply think its respectful to call them as they are a married couple. Wife and husband you know? Mate sounds very.. courtly. *not to mention, I loath the word XD*

I suspect that the most respectful thing to do would be to use the term that -they- prefer, and until then, in my experience "mates" and "husband/wife" and "significant other" are equally respectful. The respect part isn't generated from the term being used (provided there's at least a minimal level of respect there) but from the willingness to adapt if necessary.

My mom uses mate and she is hardly a furry. Personally, I see mate as a viable term.

Depends on the context though. If some one is from a certain area where the term for friends are 'mates' such as "Hey mate! How has your day been mate?" Then I can see that because I know of such places. but if its a term describing a marriage its completely different.

Animals mating generally means they get together, have sex, and then leave, or they are mated like bf/gf not as much for marriages though.

Easy Solution: Block it with Adblocker.
A bit harder Solution: Install Stylish add-on to your Firefox and get FA header customizer, it allows you to replace the banner with the pic you want(yes, even porn, see following). Notice that it replaces the banner locally(it doesn't hack the site) so other users don't see the banner you're using.

Around the beginning of me logging on, there was a description (which is also a link) above the FurAffinity screen about an issue about these new accounts and spamming or scamming (I just forgot which two was it). After spending SO MUCH time making my secondary comment on a journal called "RIP" by the username A_Dark_Passenger (it has a phoenix bird character), I noticed the description has changed into a banner update.

I made this comment because I was shocked and lucky to notice that a description that I think has been up there for quite a while has JUST NOW been replaced (as of the night that ends Wed. 12/19/2012). This means I'm very early of posting this comment on this new journal here. There will definitely be so much comments below mine.

As far as I'm concerned, its about time the banner got changed...I don't know why but I like seeing it change every few weeks :3 Its like knowing everyone is still alive at FA...the fall banner was also getting annoying. lol. Its almost Christmas!!!

why is it that for the past year(ish), you guys haven't even been having the banners change monthly? I would imagine it's not exactly a difficult task, and i've been sad that it's taken so long to get banners changed.. :(
