They've been dragging on this assmad since it happened. It's been days already, and frankly at this point they're the only one left that seems butt troubled enough to still be commenting about it to people. Hell they just commented at me again today, and I haven't posted a thing in this journal in regards to them since they blocked me, which is adorable, really. They're like a 5-year-old yelling from behind a gated room.

Which is terribly unfortunate for her... i mean, i can understand being put off by a comment that one wouldn't normally like... but, going on like that? i can't see things being terribly wonderful for them if that's how they wish to be. kinda sad and i do hope they can learn and grow from the experience.

One suggestion on the css...would it be possible to make the nav bar stick to the top once the user has scrolled down beyond the nav? Not the entire nav with the top banner, but just the links and maybe a smaller "fa" logo could slide in next to it. It would look really neat and would be easy enough to implement.

Oh dear God no no NO. I'm so sick and tired of all this floating crap on nearly every site and I sure hope this isn't implemented in FA. (And if it is, they NEED to give us an option to turn it off.) There's no reason for the nav to follow you down the page and take up screen space.

Yes, even the thin 30px strips irritate me to no end. When I say I'm tired of stuff floating around everywhere, I do mean -all- stuff. Even a 30px floating squares like some sites have. (*coughshutterstockcough*) Still, there's no reason to have it follow you around. I'm on a Mac and the top of the page is just one 3-finger swipe up, and if you're on a Windows just one fast scroll gets you right to the top as well. In either case it takes less than a second to get up there for the few times you do need it, and any additional "convenience" it might bring is outweighed by the annoyance of having the bar take up space when you don't need it.

I've had many instances where I've had several windows open and arranged in a special way to make all the visible pixels count, and forced floating junk always sucks because I can't turn it off and it's just wasting my valuable screen-space.

The only thing I don't like about the user pages is the submission boxes- there's a lot of empty space. I know nothing about coding, but maybe you could make the featured submission and the newest submission side by side? As it stands now, I think the beta looks terrible. There is zero separation between the various submissions and everything is so spread out, which is something that really bugs me personally.

Just my two cents on the issue~

I need to tightening up some of the graphics, especially on Level 3.

There's a lot of little tweaks and improvements that need to go through, especially in converting many of the pages from tables to divs. Some of it will be done in the beta, some in an update to follow after.

Also, are you referring to the front page?

I just checked out the beta... kind of reminds me of weasyl a lot. Sort of a cross between weasyl and inkbunny. I don't mind change, a lot of the stuff is pretty cool, because they're ideas that have already worked on both weasyl and inkbunny, but my only problem is with the show/hide profile thingy. I find it generally faster to scroll down instead of reading a profile if I'm not interested. But so many artists use their profile as a guide to their commissions and commission status. I'd like to see the 'automatically show profiles' or something as at least an option.

Too bad folders haven't been implemented, since most folks seemed to want that. But if the commission page will be up (finally) again, that's at least a step in the right direction.

Overall my reaction is kinda 'meh' but I'm just your average user. I don't mind that it's changed. I think it looks sort of messy and disorganized but in time I'm sure I won't care. Let's hope that more than anything, it's more reliable, and more stable.

The updates are based on concepts we've had for the past 3 years, just finally putting them into play, so... =P

That said, some things will change, like the show/hide profile. It was sort of a test concept., but I think it'd be easier to limit the amount of words to be reasonable in the profile Lots of things to do still. =3

I really don't think you need to limit the profiles. The thing is, FA has helped the furry community as a whole but letting us freaks get in touch with other freaks a bit like us. The profile allows people to tell as much or as little about themselves as they wish. I think if you limit that for a more 'professional' feel, you'll be limiting the more social aspect of FurAffinity, which has become such an integral part of what makes the site so popular.

The reason profiles got limited (in the test) was that in the current page the profiles stretch the entire width of the site. In the beta, it's confined to about 2/3rd (est.) the size of the page. Some people have really LONG profiles, and they were exaggerated even more. S owe put the "show/hide" as a test.

I'm going to remove it, as I think there are better ways to implement it.

     Echo loudly what Lupus said. Profile design can be ultra-crucial. By definition,
the very first thing people see when they visit another user.

     Has to be good. But above all, has to *be* there. Ergo a Show/hide profile button
is deadly, no matter how it's implemented. These are not the same kind of
'form-based' profiles as on, say, Forums or DevArt or wherever.

     The profiles on FA are more like billboards. They announce everything about
you (as an FA member). As in, everything you want another user to know.
The last thing you want is for this to be hidden by a visitor.



     More serious: Some profiles are highly designed. Took a ton of work, and aimed
at creating the right impression.

     Changing the width of the profile (by putting the journal beside it), plus the larger
font, is likely to scramble a ghastly number of profiles. Especially profiles that
are precisely formatted. Ie., like mine, used as Table of Contents.

     Not sure what to suggest to remedy this. Allowing the profile to push out to the
right (the way it does now) seems worth preserving? More visibility for the journal
appears to come at a mega-ghastly cost here.




     That said, overall a step forward. But borders: Need them back. Important
visual feature. Ditto control over background colour (ie., light/dark). FA's current
design is quite clean. Different shading of different areas does not replicate this.

I think the best way to implement it would be to have an option in site settings to "always show full profiles". That way we have a choice. I'd prefer to always see full profiles.

One problem I had until just now was that I couldn't login to the beta site. It would just kick me back to the main site. I had to manually add login, to the beta site address in order to login. Another is that the "show full profile" button doesn't immediately work. I had to click something else and then go back in order for it to show. Last, I would like be able to just click my name from any page to go back to my page, without using the dropdown menu.

One last thing. If you bring back the custom thumbnails, could we have an option to disable them? I know I'm probably one of the few who likes it better without custom thumbnails, but having the option to turn them off would be great for someone like me.

Just curious, but whatever happened to the old beta you showed, I think it was last summer? That one had great potential, but I have to admit, this new one seems very off. Like others said, no separation is the biggest issue. It looks a bit busy, yet too simply and disorganized with the way it is. But it's certainly a good step in the right direction!

I looking good so far, thought i don't think i like the "Show and hide full profile" option all that much it shoud be an option on the "Edit Profile Info" since some artist use that area for important information, like commissions pricing or other details. and leaving it as a button would make lazy viewers compleatly avoid even viewing them, thought im nitpicking there, over all looks good

Silly question: if we do have to re-register, will it know that a pre-existing member is updating their info and re-assign all their artwork and such? I only really have music reviews of other bands and snippets of my own band's music up there for the moment, but i wouldn't want that stuff getting trapped in limbo if it transfers over and I can't access it because i have to make another profile. Sometimes when banks change webmasters, you have to re-register, but they always know it's "you" somehow and nothing is lot. I'm probably making this more complicated than it needs to be, but I had a similar "lockout" on bungie.net when I changed Windows Live ID's a long time ago.

Will things be separated in the final layout? Like on peoples' pages everything just kinda blends into each other and the headers (such as submissions, favorites, watch list, people watching you) is small and it just kind of runs together and looks weird... I mean, maybe that's what people want, things flowing into each other, but I really don't think it looks good. I like that things are separated, it makes it easier to find what I'm looking for.

As of now it's like looking at a paper with no paragraphs, the defining sections are gone so it just looks like one, imposing block that runs on.

On the new front page, you can view all submissions, or by artwork, music, etc. No one art form gets first-line preference, and your choice saves between sessions (e.g. if you only want stories on the front page, you only get stories).

Many of the features are done, coding wise, just waiting on visual finishing touches to complete. =3

The one thing I've wanted for a while was a way to see more shouts than are shown on the user page. Sometimes I'll be gone for a duration and I'll have so many new shouts, and I don't want to delete half of them to see more.
I realize that's pretty deviantART-influenced, but it works.

Pagination (the ability to show more pages of something) is something we'd like to add to the shouts, as well as some other pages.

Good to hear it's been considered. I hope you guys are able to implement it soon!

Character Info may not make it into this update, but the next one. And yes, I'd love to do multiple character pages, give room for bios, character likes/dislikes, the gamut... good for roleplayers, people who really flesh out their characters.

As for the hover menus, one of the things I'd like to do is give a user setting of "hover to open" or "click to open".

This is barely alpha quality. In fact, it looks about as appealing as the scat art on the main page. That I have to roll back to IE to even get the lobotomized CSS and similar elements, even AFTER a full cache purge, to properly display and that even THEN you only use the dark theme insofar, is pretty sad.

Yeah, sure, it's nice and graphical and feels as if it utterly lacks direction. Half the elements lack scope or boundaries to imply who or what they belong to, and the lack of contrast makes viewing difficult at best. The elements are hardly differentiated, most haven't even changed from the current site, and many more just seem to float about aimlessly.

My only problem is that on the user pages there is too much blank space. I have a widescreen monitor so everything is spread out and looks kinda terrible.
I like the way everything is sectioned off on the live site and if that was implemented in the test one then I think it'd look pretty awesome.

Everything is kinda flat and just runs together. Like I said, something that can section off different parts would be great but other then that, no other complaints :3

We've narrowed down the admin list to our top 40, and have accepted some admins already. We're working on hoking them up with mentors, and getting their accounts created.

So you should see them start trickling in soon. Perhaps this week, or at the latest after New Years. This is a very busy time of the year, so we totally understand that. =3

I can't seem to log in on the developers site, without that its kind of hard to see whats really changed.

Also, an on aesthetic side to the UI, everything is just floating on a dark background, there needs to be boarders and such to make it look more structured.

Hmmm, the example is looking nice! I like the longer banner, and the slickness of it all, but I would suggest that you move the ads down so they aren't covering the new longer banner format (it at least shows up covering the banner when I visit on my iPad) . I feel like it destroys the point of a longer banner, and actually causes the adds to get lost in the colors of the banner

I guess most of the "improvements" will be on the interface?
it's a little bit harder to read, because in the submission view there are no longer separations between content containers; and the profile page looks like it cannot decide weather to remove boundaries, or to stick round containers on top of that strange aforementioned landscape.
I know, most people like all those fancy round borders and will probably hate me for making this comment.
I like to be able to see where one block of text ends and the other begins with a line, not a tall gap between the section and the other.
(probably better for people with large monitors; but hey, who cares about people with opinions that differ from majority,like myself. /sarcasm )

Being possibly the lone user of Opera on this site, I'm going to have to sadly point out that the new layout looks absolutely horrible in this browser. If there's supposed to be a drop-down menu of some sort it's all buggered up and I have to scroll endlessly just to try and even get to the place where art is displayed. This is a huge annoyance and it'll definitely make me dislike viewing this site when it goes live unless it gets fixed.

I see the issue. Looks like the background color for the CSS isn't displayed in Opera. Now that I know the issue that should be a simple fix. =3

It's not. The fonts were made larger on average.

Just, hope any future updates to bring less visual improvements, more compatibility and more performance.

We're working on performance. One of the data servers only has 16GB of RAM, and we're looking at adding another 16GB which should help. It's a bit RAM constrained, so increasing it should help a bit.

I'm not sure, the deal with "no visual improvements" thing i said is because, since we get those colorful borders around the thumbnails which indicate the content level, thumbnails loading slow like hell for me, if i'm viewing pic or downloading, then pics showing up fast.
But glad to hear updates are near.

By the way, when we getting nickname change option here? Because I don't really want to register new account now. I dropped you a note if you can change my nickname, thought... possible/impossible?

The layout is okay.
There is far, far too much empty space on the profiles. Maybe make the featured thumbs bigger?

Also an option to enlarge the text would be nice!

Hmmm...I like the new banner idea. Having it take up the entire top of the page instead of just a portion off to the side. I think it's a little clashed together with no separation between the "New Art" and "New Writing" and etc. Maybe have a bar or decorative little line to separate them better.

I like the top half of the user profiles, but then as you go lower, there's a ton of space open to the right (Unless that's where page shouts go?) and the watchers/watched by tabs runs together badly. It's very hard to differentiate between the two sections.

But I do understand, there's still tweaks to be done! Just my observations!

Looks pretty good, I noticed the layout is darker and the way the ads are placed is clever~ though, I'm having some trouble with it on my mobile device - when I click "log in" it sends me back to the original site, and doesn't keep me in the beta. Will this be the same when it is released?

I'm having this issue too, I can't log into the beta site and as such I can't really judge the functionality of it.

Like has been said, things are a bit floaty with lack of borders/separators and what-not.

LOVING the speech bubbles. Also like how they don't stretch on forever to the end of the page, but I think if they were a bit longer that'd be better so you could get more text in before it jumps to the next line.

After going through a bit of comment reading, I have to say something about the color combination is hard on the eyes. Maybe the font is too small?? (The comment sections look REALLY nice from a distance though)

I like the size of the 'select all' 'remove selected' etc buttons on the inbox pages, but I think they are SUPER ugly as is.

Also, just like the shouts request, the ability to see old journals would be FAB <3

Can someone please tell me why I'm logged out on the developers version of FA? I can't log into it either so it makes using it near pointless. Can someone at least make a screenshot of what it looks like from a logged in account?

obviously it's a little tough to make too much comment when there are additional changes to be made (people usually aren't very good with feedback at such stages). things do look a little awkward as it is, but i'm guessing you mainly just want to know whether things look like they are displaying and behaving correctly as much as anything at this stage; from what i could tell it seemed fine.

How so?

everything is so close together, comments are now 'word bubbles', all main artist info is in that long rectangle (plus the +watch and send a note button), shout boxes look identical.

i guess they both follow a "rectangle and cluster-fucky" layout, no offense.

i dunno, dude... looks pretty similar to other very updated art sites... i just started getting active here again, but i don't know that i'm necessarily going to stay. it looks like... every other ~shiny new layout~, but less polished (obviously, at this stage). i guess that's where you have to go with it, if you want to stay popular. just saying that it might not work.

is there any way more of the profile can show before you have to click view full profile? maybe just a few more characters, just because i have a lot of important information but it would be hidden and i'm sure most people passing through aren't going to look at a full profile.

Will this update be friendly towards mobile devices? Like Tablets, smartphones, gaming handhelds, etc.? Like what I mean is like where links and certain stuff won't look out of place or it just goes to a mobile version of it?

A mobile version will come later, but making sure it works better in mobile sites is important.

Different areas need to be better defined with borders/lines or perhaps with coloured backgrounds.

Borders may not be the 'hip new thing' but they're used for a reason (to make things easier to read).

Not too fond of the hidden profile page. I have a lot of commission and contact information that can't be seen unless I expand the profile. It's going to be a hassle to expand every individual profile to check for information. The user pages also seem a bit more cluttered with everything shoved to the top.

I wasn't too fond of the expand and contracted profile either, but I understand why it should be there. Have you -seen- some peoples pages? They're so filled with long paragraphs and extensive information that they drive the pages so far down that it's nearly unreasonable.

And I do understand that, believe you me. @_@ I just foresee many agitations concerning it and the hidden information.

Maybe they could add an information section back in. Have a pulled down profile area for the 'all the things I want to say' and then an information area where you have a limited space to write contact info, or quick information purposes? That might work. Or Just make the 'user info' section more extensive.

Apparently the commissions tab is due to make it's come back, so hopefully us artists for hire don't have to shove all of our info on the profiles anymore.

You know...if you have TONS OF INFORMATION and TONS OF CONTACT INFORMATION, maybe...

Make a journal with all that info, and leave a link to reduce the giant amount of space you seem to talk about?

Wow, don't really need the snide commentary.
A lot of people don't bother to click on links. I do have information in links and yet I still get notes asking questions that would be answered if they would read the journals. The space is so limited on the new user page, I just see it being a difficulty. And I speak not just for myself. I know a lot of people like to add a bunch of information to their profiles which would be lost in the collapsible profile. I say this merely out of convenience sake of users.

I still wonder why 'search' and 'browse' are separate features.

Search is specifically looking up something. Such as dog, horse, cheetah. Browse is viewing recent art updated to the site that has shifted off of the front page.

I still dont get why Search couldnt be a passive feature. You didnt have to click a link to get to a search bar any where else.

I hardly ever use it, so I have no qualms if it does.

There's a lot of work to be done, yes. =)

My only suggestions (which may be buried under all of this) is:

1 - On the front page. Your design at the top of the user pages is nice with the lined almost tab-like look to them. I suggest taking that and using it on areas which should have more separation. The text helps identify the areas, but it's left drifting everywhere, where a simple design aspect such as that could really help clean it up.

2.- Almost the same note on the user pages. More specifically in the watch and watchers section. It's left very 'just drifting there' feeling. You have stated you're not happy with them yet, which I understand. ^^

Different sections from everywhere (frontpage submissions, userpages) need frames around them, oh god everythings just floating around, it's really confusing! But I'm assuming that is being worked on. Also shouts were nicer when they didn't have speech bubbles and had the larger icons, hopefully the comments will stay with the big icons too, this is one of the reasons I love FA, 100*100 icons instead of the ittybitty ones every other art site uses. I'd also like to point out that the +watch and send note buttons look very out of place being completely random colours compared to the layout colour. Round corners feel quite out of fashion aswell.

As a positive note, I really like how the profile info is now side by side with the profile and latest journal, hideable profile has its pros and cons, it's nice not having to scroll a million miles to see the art, although I can see how it might be annoying for some people. But when the commission info page finally comes back people won't be needing to flash their commission infos over the profiles anymore, which would be great! :3

As for some ideas: The featured submission could be bigger or atleast scale depending on peoples screen size, it would give it much more attention. Also it might be a bit more comfortable if the gallery/scraps/journal links would be on the left side and the watch&note buttons on the right, people usually want to look at ones gallery before watching. It'd be also handy if the watch button was found when viewing someones gallery like it was originally there.

Also you need to make FA automatically delete messages about removed watches, favorites, comments and artworks in ones favorites. It's very heartbreaking to see when someone had unfaved or unwatched you before you could delete the notice ;_;

Sweet :) Hoping there will be folders to separate and organize my artwork stuffs into.

I think that the home page does need some work. It doesn't feel right. It looks great, but the layout does feel off. The best way to put it, it feels too spaced out. I have been on this site for a while, and I've noticed it seems to be put together in a close fashion. I think if the admins keep the layout fairly close together, it'll feel more like what we're used to.

However, I know that they are doing this for a change in pace, so I may be completely off as to what they are planning, but I will say, I am quite excited about the new banner. It looks so nice. It is larger and it feels like it fits more smoothly. It gives more room for expression, so that by itself makes me smile.

I do wonder how you plan on adding the ads, as I did not notice them, but that also could be due to the fact that this browser has hidden them. If that is the case, then I apologize in advance. Though I am quite interested in the new layout and everything else. Keep on working guys.

Oh yeah... Not ready for test yet. Can't really log in on it, and when I viewed my user page, everything is outdated by about 3 months! (Including shouts, submissions, journals, profile page appearance - minus user icon.) So yeah, definitely not ready yet! Looks interesting though...
