Sorry for the lack of activity + URGENT petition!
Hey guys, I'm sorry I've been lazy on posting a newsletter, I'll have the first one of 2013 up later this evening!
First, I would just like to say that I hope you guys are all having a happy and positive year so far! I know I have made a ton of resolutions that I'm kind of slacking on, but I plan on turning things around and getting my butt in gear. I want to do a lot for this group, and I REALLY want to post more updates. I don't know about you guys, but I love reading random articles about whales and dolphins, so I'll be trying to share more with you!
Now, onto business!
I am not sure about your stands on captivity, and even if you are pro-cap, there is a killer whale who REALLY needs our help.
His name is Kshamenk, and he lives in Mundo Marino in Argentina, and he desperately needs out of that tiny tank of his. It is actually the smallest orca tank IN THE WORLD.
He has been living there, mostly alone, for decades. He hasn't bonded with any other animals or trainers, and he is much too old to adjust to captivity. In fact, he was 4-5 years old at the time of capture, meaning he was old enough to fend for himself in the wild, so when they brought him in, he was already a lost cause.
He is hateful and aggressive to humans, and lives on a very poor diet. He lazes around in his pool and is forced to swim upside-down because the hot sun burns his back, as he has absolutely no shade.
Please please please sign this petition. Because he never adjusted to captivity, he still has a chance in the open ocean! Even a sea pen would make a world of a difference to him.

I have signed, and I have had everyone in my household do so as well. He is closer to freedom than you think!
Thanks so much guys, and please, help me send Kshamenk home!
If you have any questions or comments or anything, please say so. I am up for answering anything regarding this.

Who is going to train Kshamenk into freedom/care for him outside of this horrible circus pool? Which organisation is that? Where is that seapen supposed to be, who will build it? Who will pay for his alleged sea pen? Since the costs for keeping and feeding an orca under these conditions, and probably for years to come, is astronomical - who is going to do that? I can't find any of these very important answers at the petition ó_ò
Don't get me wrong, this petition is a good thing. I am extremely anti-cap, so I'd rather see any captive orca swimming in freedon than being kept in tanks ASAP. But I see people talking about this orca having super chances of being set free and even seapen talk, but no actual hard facts behind these claims. I am extremely confused.
And am I imagining things or does this petition try to gain a hundred million signatures within about a year?! That's about 15% of the world population! O____O"
There was a man who was so moved by Keiko's story that he actually donated over $6 million to see that he was set free. I think that if Kshamenk was meant to be freed, something similar will happen. The story just needs publicity, and that is what I'm am trying to do, and really, I could use all the help I can get.
I really don't have answers to your questions, but if his story gets out there and reaches the right people, I believe this can be pulled off successfully. And don't worry, I'm not offended at all. I know that there are a LOT of factors that play into something as big as this, and I know this is only the start. I just feel like... if it's destined to be, it will be.
And if you were to die, as all creatures must, would you rather suffer for twenty years and die in your jail-cell, or get a chance at freedom?
His survival is likely, and it is worth a shot. I don't believe he can last much longer in the conditions he is in. The least we can do is try.
