Commission Guidelines
Hello and welcome, citizens of FurAffinity. I'm glad you've found your way to my writer's corner, and I hope you enjoy whatever you read here. I've always enjoyed writing, but I haven't made a practice of offering my services for payment.
This is an experiment of sorts, you see. I've seen plenty of folks buying and selling art commissions of all kinds, and I'm curious if anyone is looking to commission a story from me.
Pricing - No one seemed to have any opinion one way or the other when I first posted these, so this is where I'll start.
Normal pricing:
Up to 1500 words: 1/2 cent per word (up to $7.50 USD)
1500-3000 words: 1 cent per word ($15-30 USD)
3000-5000 words: 1.5 cents per word ($45-75 USD)
Erotica pricing:
Up to 1500 words: 3/4 cent per word (up to $11.25 USD)
1500-3000 words: 1.5 cents per word ($22.50-45 USD)
3000-5000 words: 2.25 cents per word ($67.50-112.50 USD)
For reference, Bartender Chatter is 2096 words, Welcome Home is 4,309 words and most of the numbered submissions are just over 1000 words. Now into the nitty-gritty.
What I Will Not Do :
Underage characters in sexual / fetish situations
Hermaphrodites
Scat / Waterplay
Vore
Excessive Gore - While I understand that blood and gore can be used effectively to heighten anxiety and tension in many kinds of stories, but if it goes beyond that, I'll probably say no.
What I Will Do :
- Ratings from G to possibly NC-17, depending. (I'm fine with all sexual orientations, but I've only got experience writing about straight relationships. Just something to keep in mind.)
- Genres ranging from romance, espionage, mystery, horror, comedy... (I do not have examples of all genres in my gallery, and you can see that I lean toward military / espionage writing, but just let me know what you're looking for, so I have a general feel for the story)
- Stories involving my characters - I'd be honored to write for my characters on commission. If it's not something I'm comfortable with, I'll say no, but if it's not on my Will Not Do list, I'll probably be up for it.
What I Will Need From You :
- An Idea! - It doesn't have to be super detailed, but a rough outline of what you're looking for is key here. If you'd like some help brainstorming, I can offer suggestions.
- A Reference - Either written or visual, I'll need to know what your character(s) look like. A brief personality description, or even better, a short bio will help me capture your character(s) as accurately as possible.
- A general idea of how long you would like the story to be, or a price limit for you. I will do my best to work within your limits.
FAQ:
Will you pad the story to get it up to the next pricing block?
- NO. That’s unfair and dishonest to the commissioner. Also, I hate putting in unnecessary words.
My story's at 1502 words! Do I have to pay the extra pricing per word?
- Borderline word counts are negotiable. I'll try to be lenient.
Why does the pricing go up for longer stories?
- Because shorter stories require less time and work.
My first (and probably last) request ended up being over 29000 words, and it took me over a year to finish. Shorter is better, but just note me if you have a question about higher word-count stories.
I have this great idea for a novel...
- NO. Sorry my friend, but I’m occupied as it is with my own publication preps. I can't take on a novel-length commission.
Why does erotica cost more?
- Erotica and smut are more challenging. Simple as that.
Will you write fanfiction on commission?
- It depends. I have a small repertoire of fanbases, and honestly the last thing I need is a “cease and desist” notice from Universal or one of the others. However, if you’re set on fanfiction, just note me and I’ll give your idea due consideration.
I have a completely original character and would like you to write with them. Is this okay?
- YES. By all means! I'll need a rough physical description and a detailed personality description, possibly even with a bio. I want to be able to capture your character(s) as accurately as possible.
Can you write me a story based on one of your characters?
- If it's in-character for them, then YES.
Will you pair up my OC with one of your characters?
- Hmm… This would be another one of my “depends” categories. If it’s in-character, I don’t see why not. If this is a popular option, I may have to create some more secondary characters.
Could you write so-and-so's original character with one of mine or yours?
- If I can positively obtain permission from the character's creator, then sure. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to turn it down.
I'm 17 and want to commission porn!
- Sorry. Legal issues, my friend. I need proof that you're over the age of 18 before I write any sexual situations for your money.
So how does this work?
- You tell me about what length of story you want, what genre, what characters, and a loose outline. I type it up, give you up to three paragraphs at random as well as the final word count and total, and you send me money via PayPal before I give you a Read-Only version of the text file.
Will you be showing my story off to everyone else?
- Again, it depends. The writing is technically still mine to showcase, and having a portfolio of stories built up looks good to a potential new buyer. However, if you're really uneasy about the story you paid me to write being up for public viewing, let me know this up front and I'll see what we can work out. I try to be reasonable.
And, I think that about covers it all. If there’s something I haven’t addressed, you can reply below or note me. Thanks for stopping by!
