Sponsoring Personal Images?

So I've been thinking, and I...don't want to do it if it will be ill received or taken as a bad idea, but I had a thought and would like to share it with you.
As you know, I am an artist who works on commission, and all my time is spent on completing commission artwork to meet a $300 a week quota. It is my goal, as an artist, to bring some form of joy or happiness to people with my artwork. I want to make people happy and smile.
There are many images I personally would love to draw, and that I thought people might enjoy too, but because of having to constantly pump out artwork for others to make a living I do not have time for more personal pieces. So here's a thought....
I do a sketch of an idea I strongly want to draw, then I post that sketch online for people to see what it is I would like to do. If people really would like to see me finish said piece, they can donate towards that image to make it possible.
I wish I had a ton of, literally, free time...but now a days I do not. So I would say how much this particular image would cost as a commission, and how much it would take for the image to be completed. If the number of donations is reached then the picture is finished so that others may enjoy it and I have a chance to draw it as well.
I have my glorious friend,
jiyu, who practically owns my soul now, who actually commissions/pays/sponsors me to draw characters I long to do pictures of. And I thought...maybe others would like to as well?
I don't know...what do you guys think? ;; If its a really bad idea I won't do it but...I want your opinions.
It would follow these steps:
1. Post rough sketch online of what I'd like to do
2. If people like it and would love to see me finish it, they drop in however much they want as a donation towards the image.
3. If the goal is reached to complete the image, the finished version is posted online.
4. If the final goal is NOT reached, but donations have been made, I will complete the image up to the point the money covers, and share that.
5. New, personal art to look at!
So...yes? No? @-@
Waaah I dunno, is this a bad idea? ;; Any questions?
Of course commissions are still going to be posted, and nobody's hand is being forced in it at all, ever.
I also thought about, maybe, for those that did put in donations...they could make suggestions of the next image/character they would like to see drawn. (my personal characters of course, suggestions for your own characters or what not would be through commission xD)

FA+

Glad that wasn't the case =)
:D I would say as a watching and fully satisfied customer that I would help to contribute here and there for such a cause!
That means a lot to me! ;u; <333
Unfortunately, you'll prooobably get a lot of furries whining at you about having the ~*audacity*~ to take donations for something like that, because a lot of furries who aren't freelance/full-time artists tend to feel inexplicably entitled to another artist's work in some shape or form (example: every instance of people whining and throwing fits when a popular artist dares to upload censored versions of their artwork to FA). So be prepared for that.
Honestly, I think you should go for it! It'd be worth a shot, anyway, and I'm sure there are at least a few people willing to donate. :)
But it isn't like I'm not going to post the final image online to not be enjoyed by everybody, more so of a 'if you want to help out with this, feel free!'
I have seen a lot of drama over people getting upset over YCH images or...as you said...'censored pay to see images', and I just don't get why. x-x
I guess its worth a shot though! ^^''
Thanks :3
I'm in full support of the idea though!
Thanks!
Sounds like a great idea, though!
Thanks for the input! Definatly will go into consideration. :3c
And you're welcome. Good luck with everything, I've seen tons of people being sponsored to make art before, so it really should work out fine :)
That means that your going to get a bit more of your own personal's out there.
That's the breakthrough Tartii needs ^w^
Again, you never know unless you try.
XP
You have received Miyuu's Stamp of Approval!! :D
I've been thinking about doing something similar actually.
So far looks like you are getting positive responses about it c:
I'd say go for it. People seem willing.
But honestly, you should do it and you know why. ^^
There were alot of times I wish I had enough to pay certain artists to draw characters of theirs that I really miss seeing due to them being swamped by commissions.
