Yeah, here's the thing.

Brian Fargo and the people at inXile, the people behind Wasteland 2 and the PS:T sequel... are absolutely NOT like the cheap hacks at EA, nor do they answer to any large corporations. They were funded by the fans, which means they will not be fucked over by the companies.

Brian Fargo's staff resume includes: Battlechess. Baldur's Gate. Icewind Dale. The ORIGINAL Planescape: Torment. Fallout 1 and 2. Bard's Tale.

They have the original staff from those games as well. So I'm pretty sure it's in good hands.

I feel kinda mixed on how Thief 4 is being developed by Square Enix. I also have a feeling that the game will be dumbed down for the consoles, while the first three were made for the PC.

There's honestly no getting around that these days. ALL games are modified for consoles. But that doesn't necessarily mean the game will be BAD. Eidos Montreal made Deus Ex: Human Revolution.

Well let's see how this'll do. I always enjoyed the Theif series so I'm confident this'll be just as good, though I don't think it'll be able to run on my comp.

Well if nothing else, there will be fan missions.

Yeah, like custom campgains, that would certainly increase the replayability.

I hate Square-Enix. The way they treat their fans is inexcusable, C&Ding Crimson Echoes was the last straw for me.

Seriously, all they do now is Kingdom Hearts ( that series) and shitty Final Fantasy games.

At this point, I don't think the higher-ups at Square Enix are even AWARE of what Eidos does anymore. They're too busy making Final Fantasy 15: Return of the Emo Swordsman.

I really haven't played Thief, I just hate S-E for C&Ding CE.

Crimson Echoes was a Chrono Trigger mod that served as a midquel between CT and Chrono Cross.  auratwilight helped out with the script, which I didn't even know until I'd asked if he knew about it!

There's a 95% finished version of it that's been leaked, but I recommend just watching the Longplay of it, since it's buggy as fuck. If you like CT, you must watch/play CE.

Well I wouldn't be so sure about that. I'm not sure they have the rights to use those characters. It's implied that it will be a SPIRITUAL successor, not a direct sequel.

Kind of like how Bioshock was created from the ashes of System Shock 2.

I see. They announced that they couldn't get an agreement to use the same world circa Halloween. The WoTC/Hasbro cited changes to the D&D canon as main reason, making Sigil unavailable for any new products.

I have mixed feelings about this. If it's a spiritual successor that has zero to do with the original, i'll be happy. I want a similar story, I do NOT want them to dishonor the integrity of the original by bringing characters back, much like I hope they never remaster it. Keep it working on newer os's, yes, but that game is such a wonderful stand alone tale...it deserves to be its own thing forever.

I want a new story. CA and BF are older, wiser, have learned a lot and been through a lot. I want new stories told from new perspectives, not a story told by someone trying to recapture where they were in their head ten-fifteen years ago. It really isn't even Planescape, anyways. It's a totally new IP...why even mention Torment? Unless you're planning on either using the same characters/setting (impossible, since they don't have the rights anymore) or you're trying to appeal to senses of nostalgia..something i'm starting to really resent and consider insulting, not just to me but to the memory of those great games.

I dunno..it's their game, they can do that if they want to, I suppose its their right, since they're the ones that created it in the first place.

That's kind of what i'm afraid of lol I couldn't stand Bioshock, especially after going back and playing the first two System Shock games. System Shock 2, especially. It's so much better than Bioshock, and I didn't have to put up with the annoying dialogue.

I thought the dialogue in Bioshock was pretty good...

But also you have to remember that this isn't an FPS they're making, it's likely going to be an oldschool CRPG.

My fondest memory of Torment was the intro, when you get carted past several tables and shelves of skulls which turn to look at you.
The first time I was "did that just happen ? Did those F-ing skulls just look at me ala The Birds ?"

I have such a hard time playing it. I keep wanting to, I've started it twice, but I wish to god I'd played it soon after I played Baldurs Gate 2. I might not have had this problem.

Man... I've already brought Wasteland 2 now I'm going to h ave to fund this if they kickstarter it :D

I liked it so much I've now thrown money at it :D
