Back home at last... but not without a problem >:(
12 years ago
Yep, back at last. We finally got home after so much driving today, so after unloading my stuff from the van, I just decided to kick back and relax online...
...only to find my computer won't start up. It has power, but refuses to boot up beyond the first five seconds. Despite working reasonably fine before heading down to Tassie, having its dust cover on the whole time away and having it turned off at the wall until today to prevent wasting power and hopefully any surges.
So sorry guys, but any pics/streams/skype sessions are gonna have to wait till this gets fixed. I'd use my Dad's laptop, but it's several years old, holds no power whatsoever in its battery and overheats within half an hour. :/
(Typing this on my PS3 right now, for those wondering)

Oh well. just gotta wait for now, I guess. Will let you know if anything changes again.
They said I can bring in the computer this afternoon, though it might be until Monday before any resolution can be found - they've got a lot of other work scheduled right now, it seems.
wait, you typed that on your PS3? ... Patience of steel wow
There was no sign of this issue before we left for Tassie and no-one has touched the computer in the two weeks we were away. We gave the machine a minor cleanout when replacing the disk drive and the PC had been covered the entire time away, so I doubt it's to do with dust - it's inconsistent with previous issues with dust buildup, which tended to vary more anyway and usually get past loading the monitor display before bugging up. Upon the suggestion from RVRoovie, I left it on for a about 10 minutes or so this morning to try and let it warm up, and then tried restarting it, but that made no difference.
The ONLY other issue I could possibly think of would be that Coffs got some pretty nasty weather apparently while we were gone, so maybe the computer got damaged by a sudden surge or lightning strike, except that A) it's plugged into a power poard with a surge protector, B) while the power board was kep plugged into the wall, it was switched OFF before we left, and C) no other devices are showing any problems.
That's honestly all I can think to say about it - i'm gonna try and contact some repair folks later today about this if I can.
(And yes, still typing on PS3, though I'm now using my keyboard for it if I'm gonna be typing more long-winded bits like this. XP)
Without actually seeing the physical computer itself, I can't actually do much, but I'm hoping the above will help resolve the issue. The Beep sound your computer makes is actually important, and signifies that everything is A-OK. So there might be a hardware fault somewhere in the PC (Most likely the CPU) which should be checked by a professional if all else fails. I hope this helps.
Hope things work out for ya, give me a shout if you need me 8D.
I've called a computer repair business in town, the same guys who gave us the replacement disc drive from a bit back - they can take it in this afternoon, and he assumes it'll be an easy fix , but he also said it could take until Monday to get a chance to look at it properly. :(
And I was looking so forward to finishing that Nialus/Daemon pic, too. Least you still have that WIP for the meantime. :P
You can also clean out the inside of the computer just to be thorough.
Thanks heaps for the suggestions though. :)
Also, haven't heard much from you in a bit, how've you been, Pyke? :D
