I get the lego building blockness. I can somewhat loose myself in that. The cave spelunking sure. But like.. once you get into the macerator generator turtle box stuff its just... like ... people should just play Second Life.
Try vanilla minecraft. No mods. You're talking about Tekkit (the mod package)
If you're launching the game via a launcher (the Technicpack launcher probably) go through the dropdown in the top left and find Vanilla Minecraft
that's the barebones game. Much less to do - but much more challenging in that respect.
and IMO - neither Tekkit nor vanillla minecraft are pretensious. Both make for sandbox games. Heck, there are schools that use the game to teach about architecture and urban planning IIRC. Its just a fun game to build stuff in - and then fight zombies in at night
I find I can play it for about as long as it takes to build a house, and that's about it for me. After that I'm just bored with it. I mean, if I want to loot caves, kill bad guys and collect junk, I'll play Skyrim. If I want to do it with friends, there's Everquest.
I'd like to try Second Life because of the extreme "customizability" and to a lesser extent the social appeal, but the last time I installed it to try it out it chugged so hard I couldn't really do anything.
To each his own I guess.
