Prolly gonna do a FREE ART raffle next week -- need opinions
12 years ago
OK SO
Next week I think I'm going to do a free art raffle. Here are some ideas I had about it:
* The more entries, the higher quality art the final product will be.
* The more entries, the more winners (like, after so many entries, instead of the main prize getting better, now there's a 2nd place free art, too)
* Commenting will get a single entry. Posting a promotional journal will get 2 extra entries (3 total).
* You can 'donate'/'tip' me to get extra entries. I would consider limiting this and they would not cost much (for example, every dollar is one extra entry, but you can only get up to 3-5 extra entries this way. So the most entries one person could have would be 6-8, if they also comment and promote in a journal.
* The raffle period will last for one week, and then the prizes will be announced at the end of the week.
Do these sound like good rules to you guys? I've never done a raffle before, and I've never even really entered in someone else's raffle, though I've seen other raffles and always look at them and am curious about who wins and who gets what art (I don't really feel like entering because I'd rather someone else get free art, since I can draw art for myself already if I wanted to. I'd rather get 'free' art from trades with my friends and let those who can't draw for themselves win the raffles, since they deserve art too, IMO)
So I need to know what sounds good. I don't know if people would be mad about the ability to buy extra entries. Maybe I could even have it as low as $1 gets 1 extra entry, and that's the most you can get.
I want it to be fair so people without money can still have a decent chance of winning, but I also need to pay my bills and eat food or else I will die of starvation or live on the street without electricity and then no one can have any art from me because I can't create it. (Well, I can draw in the dirt with a stick I guess, but you probably won't get to see it).
Please comment with your own opinions about my ideas and ideas you may have of your own. What do you like to see in raffles? Do you think you would feel cheated if people could buy a get a couple extra entries for donating a small amount? Would this discourage you from entering at all (even if the minimum you had to do was comment for a chance to win free art)? Or would you be willing to donate a few dollars for the chance at winning art that would normally cost much more than a few dollars?

Sadly, I feel like although I do have a small 'fanbase,' I'm not widely known yet since I don't draw particularly popular subjects and my art is still evolving. Sometimes I make journals and get 0 comments, and some of my art goes with no favorites or comments, too.
So I'm not sure how much attention it would get. I guess people scramble for free art... I remember I would post tons of journals on y!g (where I have way more followers and fans) and no one would comment, but then once I posted a free art journal and got TONS OF COMMENTS IMMEDIATELY. So maybe people would XZD But a raffle is not guaranteed art so maybe people wouldn't bother.
I mean, I'm going to try it out anyway ^_^ But I want to know what kinds of things people like in raffles before I do it.
But then how would the entry work if you were to enter... what if you won your own work O_o?
