The Commission Tab has been restored, completely re-written from the ground up (and overdue!). It was initially intended to be part of the UI update, but as that got pushed back a few weeks, we decided to release it early. Happy April Fools Day!
We'll be adding and improving to the Commission Tab (offering places for "Artistic Terms of Service" and work queues) in the coming weeks, along with some other goodies.
Q&A
Q: What does "Submission ID" mean?
A: That's the submission number of one of your images. For example, if your submissions ID is http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4483888/ then the number you'd want to use for the preview would be 4483888.
Q: What does "Display Order" mean?
A: You can set a number so that you can change the order in which commission slots are displayed. 1 would show first, 2 would show second, etc.
Q: The page where I enter commission information doesn't look quite right.
A: The page should look like this: http://imgur.com/ztEf6wH If it doesn't, try doing a CTRL-F5 on the page to re-cache the CSS files. It should help with any layout issues you're having.
Q: How do I access the commission pages?
A: There's a link to it on your userpage.

Very few of the more popular and extensible web services work with the native Windows API and usually require Cygwin to run if they'll even run at all. There's a reason that the ratio of deployments where I work (large web hosting company with a variety of customers) are some flavor of Linux.
The point is, for all relavent use cases, Windows can be just as much a server OS as *nix. They do indeed have their specialties - I wouldn't put windows on a 128mb ram VPS just to host my personal blog, no, just as I have no intentions of making the mistake of trying to get a lab of 20 computers, 800 users, remote home directories, roaming profiles and Exchange equivalents running on a *nix Server again. Sure, like the first scenario it can be done, but it's not worth the time investiture when a simpler solution exists ("use the right tool for the job").
Microsoft takes forever to update stuff.
(After the owner switched up to 2012 and did a slew of massave updates)
This is after YEARS of the server constantly being backdoored and used by 3rd parties to spread malware, which required the host to take drastic measures, and drastic user limitations to fix.
Things the NIX server provides us is far superior to that of the Windows Server, including the ability to upload/run CSS and JS files, PHP, and SQL.
(All of which were turned off on the Windows servers due to them being used for spread of said malware)
Most services that use Windows Hosting also has limitations, even on paid accounts, on such scripting practices - to attemtp to prevent that same thing - and even of that, many of them are switching to NIX due to its greatly improved stability ratings.
Wordpress, forums, phpMyAdmin, etc. are all just as vulnerable on a *nix machine as they are on a windows machine. Any lack of security there rests solely on whatever server admin misconfigured the software package, webserver, or server itself.
You have to follow good security practices for any server to be secure, and if you don't, then it doesn't matter what OS you're running.
Now IIS... that's a joke. Just trying to get it running is a nightmare, let alone working correctly.
The reason why I don't have this issue is because every bug I find I know how to trigger on command and therefore can patch by making sure the conditions for creating the bug are never met. Of course, 90% of the time that's a lot easier said than done depending on the program and bug.
get real sun
hommie dont play that
I'm new to FA, but are you saying they used to have this-but took it away?
I greatly appreciate the feature and don't want it to disappear again :c
After being disabled for at least a year, any link to it was completely removed.
And I'm well aware of that.
My comment is now null. :I
That is new!
Just 'cause you redo it, doesn't mean it hadn't been there in a different form before.
Silly Fender. :3~
Hope they fix it so it works on it's own.
display order same for submission ID, means what exactly?
you should put little (?) icons near each thing with a description of what to put there and what it does.
http://oi50.tinypic.com/1sazbq.jpg
It took me quite a while to figure out that the words were stacking and coincided with the empty boxes that they were not next to or above.
I'm still not sure what "display order" means.
Also, check out the main post again. We're updating it as questions are being asked.
Main one that may be confusing to people is the submission ID. That's the ID of the submission number you want to display in the preview image. So, go to your gallery, and copy the submission number from the link (e.g. www.furaffinity.net/view/123456 ) and copy that number, 123456, into the preview box.
Thank you for clearing it up.
The link to edit your commissions is really hard to notice at least the first 3 times you go to the commissions info page (one person pointed out it looks like a header). Will you be fixing this to where you have your page tabs on your commission page as well, to seperate the edit link from the header of the site?
Keep it up Neer, and hopefully FA will be stronger
Holy crap, after like 5-6 years!! Its back!!
What do I put in those? D:
I would suggest that you allow the "slots" tab to include actual text instead of just numbers so that the user can enter "ask" or something like that in there. I'm not really popular enough to throw out a number but on the off chance that pencil sketches of rodents becomes the new fad that every single furry must do in order to please the herd, I don't want to just post like, 100 slots and make people think I want that much work.
sorry i'm really dumb LOL
If it doesn't look like that do an F5 on the page.
I went to a user's page and got this message:
"This user has voluntarily disabled access to their userpage.
If this is your userpage and you would like to reenable it, you may do so by logging in andreenabling it in your Account Settings."
Is this new? I have never seen this before.
-Require an account to have some sort of verification to use this feature else you want it abused.
-Users who have opted out cannot watch new people, favorite, comment, or any of that. Trolls can abuse this. You cannot immediately disable your account after performing an action eg; watching/commenting/favoriting something in the past...72 hours.
-Apply a fix to prevent gallery, scraps, journals being seen period if they try to go to those through link.
Don't worry, I didn't catch it the first time either.
Can you only link a picture once and never again? Because I went to make a new one and the picture will no longer show.
I used three different images, just the last numbers on the URL like stated, without the / mark as well. Nothing.
"this is an add on to other commission types"
I had been under the impression that needed to be checked for the box below to show up since it is directly above it.
Blocking some one doesn't make them unwatch you yet. Agreed with you it needs to be fixed
I mean, it's a good option. But, it just doesn't work.
When I blocked people, I expected that it will hide all comments they do in FA, i expected to just...see them vanish.
But instead they just, can't send me notes and leave comments on MY page or answer to MY comments.
I know that would take really too much coding and work to do, so I'm currently using an addon that REALLY works for what I was expecting the block option to do.
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm thankful for the block option...it just, doesn't fulfill what I wanted and I hope that at some point you guys can work the option far better and will actually block users you add in the list for GOOD, and not just in your page (which is fine, but if someone wants to bug the living shit out of you, they will find a way)
Though its sad I had to rely on a Firefox AddOn instead of the site.
...And later on you guys wonder why you get blocked? SRSLY?
i understand that it would be better for the artist. i just complained about it afterwords.
also, there are negatives from this. a person who has commissioned an artist and has been blocked can no longer receive updates, or, if some artist has been scamming commissioners, and that commissioner has been blocked from said artist, they can no longer post screenshots of events that may have happened, like in the comments.
But this kind of actions tend to be really low, and from artists that make TONS of drama. Most of the time, when an artist blocks someone, is because they went from "mildly annoying" to "creepy". Sometimes threatening.
And I'm sure that mods would take trouble tickets about scamming IN THE SITE (Keep that in mind, they only do things in-site). As long as there is proof and you have time to write a tl;dr to the mods, something can be fixed.
I had to write tl;dr tickets with translations from spanish to english for the mods to do something.
Oh, and I heard Mods...mods, can look at deleted comments or hidden comments. So maybe you can ask for that in case of block?
Truth is, yeah, there are some twats that would use the block option as a way of escaping commissions and scamming.
But why is the option bad? Because there are some artists that use it to scam? What about us that seriously use and NEED this option in order to be left alone by stalkers?
Like one of my ex-bf, that kept stalking around. And her girlfriend, that also used to lurk around my gallery all the time and fav any vent art I did. After a while, it becomes uncomfortable, annoying and unpleasant, to the point you don't want to submit anything anymore.
Imagine that if you're stalked IRL, and the police said "so yeah, he can't talk to you...but he can get REALLY fucking near your house and look into it by the window. He can't enter, but he can see what are you doing". Doesn't sound nice at all, right?
""i know it would be a OK privacy system thing,"
i understand that it would be better for the artist. i just complained about it afterwords.

"
there are artists in situations where they owe many commissioner money because they haven't done the artwork, and when the commissioner requests for refunds, they block them, and now the commissioner will be unable to see at all what's going on, and whether or not the artist is doing this to other people. adding on to this, if the commissioner has paid hundreds of dollars for something from the artist, say, a fur suit, now they would be hundreds of dollars out of money, and have no way to contact the artist again, and that would also make it even more difficult to open up a lawsuit/court case against said artist when they have no way of providing evidence of communication, etc. Especially if it were made in comments and not notes
I just don't see it being that big of a problem that it even needs to be considered.
it is a big problem, and artists-beware on livejournal shows it with the entries there
Also, yes you can get money back even if you are blocked because most transactions are through Paypal.
yes, two whole years is a few weeks
Seems to be working pretty well, I like it. The Slot amount and position box do a bit of a switch up in changing modes, will there be an entry edit option so we can change details if we have to?
Also would it be possible to post multiple submissions to show for our examples? Can there be smaller thumbnails for this as well?
It's a fine line between informative and "Facebook". AKA, spam for every freakin' little thing...
PRAISE THE LORD.
I LOVE YOU GUYS.
*sobs*
Reading above I am glad to see that much more is in the works for FA.
Can not wait to see what is in store. ^_^
still, it's nice to have it back.
But i think it needs some work. I have only started dabbling with it and its a bit confusing having nothing but rows of blank white boxes. And yes i refreshed and nothing has happened yet. Im assuming my browser needs to update but ill get to it eventually lulz.
I hope there are more useful updates to come.
Holy shit now it works! xD
Maybe notifications aren't the answer. If it was possible to visit a page (on demand) that aggregated the commission information from all the artists a user was watching (and was clever enough to exclude any item with 0 slots available), that would be just as useful - perhaps even more so. Users could then, at a glance, see which of their favourite artists was currently open and use that information to make spending decisions. The data is already there, it just needs to be presented in a more useful way.
As 'neer mentioned somewhere up there *points up the page* it will be expanded on as they change things :)
No idea if this (or similar) is a planned feature or not, but its a decent suggestion in my (personal) opinion :)
I believe since the UI update was delayed by a couple of weeks, he decided to release the commissions info page so that everyone has something to play around with in the meantime.
It's also currently minimal-functionality, and is being expanded on.
(based on previous comments from 'neer & fender)
If it's minimally functional then why bother releasing it? Would you buy a prototype car that barely runs or a house with half the electrical and wiring installed? People would have been a lot more impressed if it was properly designed and functional right out of the gate. Instead, it goes down in the history books as yet another buggy mess of a new feature.
>its been a few weeks since 2009
Is that the April Fools joke...?
Unless you count "moving news posts to the top" as "UI reboot."
More in, re-envisioning how a lot of things should look and feel.
Picture
That's you can add to the other
Pictures
Of UI updates that you've been hawking for 4 years now.
Here's a hard mode mission for you: implement them already. Or would that make your wedding fund-I MEAN -donation- drives a little less successful?
...I blame that crazy guy with the DeLorean.
Eventually, we'll add in some additional field like a "Page description" or a "Artist Terms of Service" that will let artists further add details to their commissions and offerings.
And the what do you mean lost the ability to add things to it?
Must go reorganize now
It's legit/real :)
For the mass overhaul of the site.....Or Data transfer for that new hardware they got a little while back.
The type boxes are lined up by three. >.>
By the way, whatever happened to the design on the FurAffinity Facebook page?
Woah.
Woah.
Yes.
I LOVE THE NEW TAB <333
I'm pretty sure there was one when I first joined a couple years ago, but it must have gotten removed?
If its a design issue with the display of items, its because it was not designed for this version of FAs UI. It was designed for the new UI. 'neer released only this cause the UI got delayed by a couple of weeks apparently.
To each their own though.
Of course there's the browser back button, but still. Ease of access :P
People are still bitching about the UI?
That's just sad. The coders do something to try and please people here and others still piss and moan, haha.
In short, there is no ui coder once again.
didn't hear about there not being a ui coder
oops
EVERYONE DISREGARD MY COMMENT
Now my userpage looks even more cluttered. ESPECIALLY SINCE I DON'T DO COMMISSIONS.
Oh well. Weasyl did it better.
"Commissions page down due to XSS exploit."
look at it
LOOK AT IT
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I feel like a kid in a candy store.
I'm SO THANKFUL that fa FINALLY got around this but....I....can't help but feel... underwhelmed? xD
Its hard to edit things like prices right off the bat and...its...a little.....unimpressive to look at? (for buyers) Also-- at least on my end, what you were supposed to put in the text boxes didn't line up properly which is probably why there's all this confusion of people not understanding it.
So basically--
-Its not easy to go in, edit one thing and get out, you gotta delete the ENTIRE commission price and make a new one,
-Only one example...? I guess that's ok and I'll live with it but...at least would three seems fair (to me)
-The add-on prices could have been displayed better...checking 'add-on' simply removes the ability to add a thumbnail (???) and puts the word 'add' there.
-The whole set up of it could have just been.....a little....neater???
But eh. Just my 5 cents, beggars can't be choosers so I'll just take the fact that something that's been missing for some 5 years is finally back as a win and go.....xD
Editing and stuff like that will be added (according to 'neers comments).
The design is a bit off because it's designed for the new UI but currently running on the current/old UI, so it will seem a little off.
As for everything else, dunno, I'm not involved with the release, and I'm just basing the above off 'neers comments xD
But eh. It...really all depends on when (AND IF) they ever release the new UI.
So be it then~ I await the new UI~
please tell me it's real life, cuz that tab is absolutely wonderful if it is
..oh wait, it is back! Any chance there'll be a way to display at a glance when an artist is open for commissions, like Weasyl does? Granted most artists display it on their profile somewhere but I'd like to just pop on a page and be able to glance at a specific area to see rather than dig through a few to a few dozen lines for a notice that may not even be there.
Better to have a closed and open bolded somewhere or something!
What does "fixed price" mean?
and Fixed Price means that it will always cost this much, where as a price range means that it will cost between X and Y dollars/yen/zenni
I clicked it on my profile and it bold letters it said 'edit commission tab' so i clicked that and it worked x3
- Sections.
It would be nice to be able to segregate my commissions off into sections, since in the journal I use to do my commission stuff, I have them broken down into Base Prices, Comic Pages, Extra Characters and Other Features.
- The ability to edit existing entries.
if you can do this, I don't know how. but if you can't, it needs to be a feature. deleting and remaking an entry because of a misspelling is kind of lame.
I've offered my help to 'Neer to help get ready a little earlier, but as yet heard nothing.
In other words, I don't know what text box goes to what label
and yes i played around with it before making that statement unlike the myriad yesmen whove posted here saying thank you for the awesome feature
if it were awesome it would actually be useful but this is worse than what was in the tab before quite frankly
just a hot mess and i imagine there are middle school kids who could have made a better system
What was even the point in checking out the tab and complaining?! DD:
why do you give a shit if you don't even like FA? :V
u mad
fail
you clearly hate FA, so why do you bother bitching about it?
just leave if you don't like the site. common sense.
haters gonna hate
Seems legit.
ihavearafflegoingIS the new UI coming this month or is that still in the works?
So I'm assuming released by end of month?
Also just for the sake of continuity, the "Slots Available" and "Display Order" should be in the same order between the initial entry and the editing fields.
I'd also like a place to put my TOS and any extra info (like what I will/won't draw, payment info, methods of contact, etc.).
Just my 2 cents. :)
*shrugs* just my guess.
also, it is confusing that under 'create new commission type' the 'display order' and 'available slots' parameters are backwards to the ones appearing beside the created commission types. I think they should appear in the same pattern for both. :)
i don't understand how is this working, but we will see after messing around with it, glad to see thsi feature come back
(I'll keep my main one on my userpage though for the details!)
I like it .>.
Bad enough I didn't do anything to warrant them, now I can't even show appreciation for the artist, blocked though I may be?
When you block a user, it's because you want to be left alone by the person that was blocked.
What you're saying are the usual "fav & run" users, who are Ok and I'm sure no artist would block someone who leaves a comment once in a while.
The block option is for the users that are just going from "nice" to plain creepy or stalking.
If you say you just leave an occasional comment, then why would you be blocked and why would you care about this in the first place, if you're being nice?
This option does not affect you at all if you say you're the normal "fav&run sometimes comment" kind of guy.
The block option allows me to don't be bothered by stalkers, and I only block people that tried to bother me, threaten me.
I make a correct use of the option, as many other people.
You have a problem? Ask the admins via a TT and explain what happened. Or just leave that person alone.
For most people, dont be a d-bag and you won't get blocked. For those few who have their panties in a twist, who a care? There are plenty of other artists you can watch.
I'm sorry you go through such situation, I know how it feels (I'm going through such thing ATM as well). People will always find a way to annoy you, the fact that we can't see messages like favs really helps.
And then there's Duke Nukem Forever... hmm.
THANKS
Also why has this to be placed before the gallery? It's not that important...
A checkmark beside a watched persons named on the watch list, an X if not.
Simple, basic, nothing fancy. But at the same time, this is quite good, thank you.
I try to delete some when I am online, and I've been hoping that with the UI update there will be a view all option, but I'm almost up to 4000 ad it's getting ridiculous.
what's the add-on box for then?
I somewhat recall some sort of "exploit" but did not quite get the point of such (or am I confusing something here?)
Anyway, as said, the tab is useful but can be improved. For example, you could make peeps less confused and just have them paste the URL to their submission - then parse the URL with PHP.
<?php
$url=$_POST['submission_id'];
if(substr($url,0,4)=="http") {
$u=parse_url($url,PHP_URL_PATH);
$pstr = explode("/",$u);
$id = $pstr[2]; // is now the ID.
} else { do soemthing normal. }
?>
Dont ask why im doing this, probably too much time <.<
Nice work so far guys! Keep working hard!
I didn't read the previous comments. I'm sorry if this was mentioned already.
I understand that this might be to prevent overflow on the site?
I was just wondering since its a pain to group a lot of my commissions since their pricing is different. It also helps me with keeping my prices from being different. Since sometimes ill give a wrong number from miscalculations.
The only thing I don't like is the limit of 15, I offer more than 15 things as commissions so I'm not able to show all on the page. If this would be up to 20 or 25 it would be alright.~
But for the rest I'm loving it so far, saves me from opening my commission info sheet in photoshop and update the preview images with better stuff. ^w^
idk why they do, but i think its kinda funny
last year they made shiny new thumbnails and debuted them on april 1st
I have been hoping that there would be an easier way to make commissions information.
Day made. Time for coffee and business-like stuff.

The Submision ID seems to not work of an add on. Not sure if its to be that way or a glitch. =3
