*chuckles* Oddly enough Gem this is a question I've asked myself as well... "What is Luck?" "Where does it come from?" and more recently "Bad Luck and Good Luck are both Luck aren't they?"

All I know is Bad Luck knocks me down and is about to run over me with an 18 wheeler... then Good Luck yanks me to relative safety minutes later. Wash and repeat <,<; it's kinda weird/freaky if you think about it...

Aaaaaaaaanyway back on topic, I'm sure you haven't spent your luck yet =3 and if you had here some extra! ^_^ *hands you a bag of candy* ... candy is the same as luck right? o,o

Luck is just the factors we're unaware of, our own overestimation of our assessing ability based on narrow pools of perception. There's nothing wrog with feeling grateful after the relief of "good luck", yet dwelling into the disappointment of "bad luck" does no good. IMO, theory of chaos extends to our search for happiness, so we should just do all we can to feel better and that starts from positive thinking.

Seriously, it sometime reconforthing to beleive in luck and good fortune, but that could also mein that you beleiving in bad luck and curse, what could make you think that nothing you can do, can get you out of the trouble your are in. What is not true.

I don't believe in luck as anything other than a product of basic statistics. Even given the complexity of the universe we live in, on a long enough time scale all possible permutation of events can and eventually will occur. In human terms the larger a population grows the more chances there are for a particular permutation of events to take place sooner.


Richard Dawkins has a good anecdote regarding luck, involving the captain of a football team who had won the coin toss at the beginning of a match several dozen times in a row. Before his next match someone on Yahoo answers posted the question " Do you think he'll win the toss again?", and the response that was overwhelmingly voted best answer was "I'm a firm believer in the law of averages so I think the other captain will win this time." Of course if you really consider that statement you'll realize it doesn't make any sense. What averages really says for any random chance with exactly two outcomes is that both outcomes have exactly the same chance of occurring, 50%. Assuming the toss was on the level, both captains had exactly the same chance of winning. The idea that one should loose because he'd won a lot previously and had a loss "coming to him" is just people trying to apply a sense of universal justice to random chance.

I just tend to assume I'm a naturally lucky person. Positive thinking really does help in a lot of situations! ^.^

I believe in luck. I think of more of a kinda stat everyone has kinda like in a game but is real and when it does work we get "Lucky" but sometimes we don't and it's "Unlucky." And I think f it like a dice roll sometimes you get the awesome 12 or the cheesy snake eyes. But it's more like rolling two 20 sided dice and getting doubles, not likely, but there are times when you get on a roll and get it several times and you where lucky for a bit. But I do believe it and think we all have it, but our attitudes sometimes effect when it does or doesn't work. But I think luck kinda effects everything we do.

If thats the case, then we will just have to make some more luck! I have a spell or two that might work....

I used to not believe in luck, but I have noticed kind of a pattern lately of spells of good and bad luck, so I do kinda believe in luck now. You know, I did find $5 on the ground today. Maybe this is the start of some good luck.

I don't believe that luck is anything more than randomness. People say they are lucky or unlucky based on how good things are going. Everything has a cause, it's just unknown what the effects are.

Well I believe in luck as how I precive it and that is that I do but I consider something lucky as if something positive or good happens that normally would not happen like I would consider winning the lotery for finding some loose money on the ground lucky as opposed to like failing a test or nothing going right at all as unlucky.

But, the luck could be in Hermione's infinite bag she has! Then it really won't run out! ^^

Never doubt and never take luck for granted. I suppose my brother being such a pessimist (and forcefully trying to make us think the same as him) made me such an optimist. I'm not the luckiest guy in the world (in fact I often fear I'm a terrible jinx), but as long as I draw breath, ate a good meal and laugh in the face of all my bad luck, I feel like I've got it made.

luck isnt a limited thing its something that comes from hard work and doing good(normally) and you work real hard and do lotsa great stuff so you should have tons of luck well maybe thats more karma then luck but as i see it they normally go together

I think "luck" or "fortune" is just the relationship you keep with the unknown.

If you constantly feel that luck favors you, it means that you are optimistic about what the unknown will bring next, and positively perceive what it has brought you thus far. This also means that your psyche has been trained to trust the unknown.

Running out of luck would simply mean being dissapointed in this expectation. Having enough bad happen to you that it's like the unknown has betrayed you, and made you lose confidence in luck.

I think surrounding yourself with people who love and care about you is the best way to keep that tank full of petrol, lol!

Luck is what you make it to be. Even a bad situation and/or circumstance can be considered "lucky" if you are able to make it out to be a positive in the end.

For example, I lost a good chunk of sight over the past year. However, during this time, I grew closer to a lot of great people here and gained a lot of self-insight. Thus, without the misfortune, I wouldn't have had the fortune of bonding with so many wonderful folks.

So, this in mind, luck does not run out unless you allow yourself to take a defeatist attitude. One never knows when a bad situation could be an unanswered gift.

I think there is a Country Western song we had play a lot over here in the States. Maybe it made it over your way. I think it is all about thanking God for unanswered prayers. The lyrics are quite interesting and go with the concept of luck as something you really wanted eventually may turn out to be something you are greatful never did as a better outcome was just around the corner.

Who would've ever thought coming to FA would be one of the greatest things you ever did? Who would've ever thought in such a short period of time you would become a hero to so many? That's the power of luck and a good attitude. Keep it up, Gem!
