Many have tried, many have failed. Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert will never be replaced or forgotten.

He was truly one of a kind. And as showed by lasting so long against cancer, he was one tough old man. Rest in peace, Ebert. We'll miss you...

That poor guy deserved some rest after everything.

Sigh... RIP Ebert, you were my favorite movie critic.

If I'm correct, people are saying cruel things about him because he didn't like "Jackass."

That alone speaks volumes for their so-called intelligence.

I think it's probably rage over the time he said that video games aren't, and could never be, art.

It is YouTube the comment section is the unfiltered sewer of the internet. Its best to ignore that place.

He was my favorite critic as well, even if he and I disagreed at times about movies with social criticism from a liberal POV in them, such as Brazil and The conversation.

RIP.

Oh wow. So the other half of the legendary pair has passed. That is sad.

Side note: I agree Beau on the topic of The Host. I can't believe they made another movie based on a book written by an author who made vampires sparkle. Wtf were they thinking? Oh wait, they weren't like they never do. ~growls deeply in frustration~

That's insane and it makes me feel old. I remember growing up in the 90's and every time a major movie came out I would always wait for the newspaper print ads or TV commercials with the announcer saying "This movie was given a thumbs up by Siskel and Ebert!" meaning it was worth watching.

Man...I can't believe they are both gone now. At least they can now criticize movies again as a team in heaven. =]

I still remember reading his reviews. He really did seem to enjoy well made movies and he was clearly a science fiction and horror fan. At times I disagreed but I always felt he argued his points well. I'll miss him as a review writer but he lived a good life and he had a family that loved him and really that is a lot.

That part gets me every time.

Very few celebrity deaths affect me and Ebert's did. He was definitely one of the best public figures I know.

He was an atheist who expected to cease to exist upon death, but being the selfish person I am I hope some type of positive non-denominational afterlife awaited him.

I always kind of preferred Siskel more, but Ebert wasn't bad. Film critic seems like a somewhat thankless job, household name recognition, but no glamor, and everyone at some point cries foul on your opinions.

It's rather sad he's gone now... One of my personal favorite reviews was when he and Ebert reviewed the movie North.
